Diagnosis and Troubleshooting

Testing the operation of the security system is allowed only if the alarm system is not under warranty. If the warranty period is valid, you must contact the manufacturer's representatives, since repairs will be carried out at their expense. Self-diagnosis and work are allowed only if the warranty has expired.

Key fob malfunction

Features of device repair:

  1. First, you need to make sure that the key fob batteries are working. A failed battery must be replaced.
  2. If a new battery does not help, you need to disassemble the communicator. A visual diagnosis of the board is carried out - any traces of liquids should be removed with a cotton swab.
  3. Damaged elements on the board must be repaired and replaced. If a button fails, you need to resolder its contact or install a new key. All damaged contact elements must be resoldered. If there are traces of oxidation, you can get rid of them using a construction brush or a dry cloth.
  4. Software problems should be resolved by flashing the device. Only a specialist can perform this task.

Damage to electrical circuits

Over time, the conductors wear out and the insulating layer on them wears off. This leads to a deterioration in the connection between the control unit and the remote control; in some cases, malfunctions in the operation of door locks are possible. The search for damaged electrical circuits is carried out using a tester or test light. It is necessary to disconnect the block with wires from the microprocessor module and ring each contact element. Detected damaged cables must be replaced; twisting them to restore alarm functionality is not recommended.

Damage or incorrect installation of the antenna module

Diagnostic features:

  1. It is necessary to check the integrity of the electrical circuit of the antenna adapter, and also make sure that the contacts on the connector are working. The damaged wire is replaced with a new one; if there is oxidation on the block, it must be removed.
  2. A failed antenna module must be replaced.

User Andrey Kuvshinov spoke about the procedure for troubleshooting vehicle wiring.

Malfunctions in the central processor

Problems with the microprocessor are divided into two types:

  1. To eliminate software problems, the module will need to be re-flashed. Such breakdowns include incorrect operation of the system, arbitrary activation of the alarm mode and independent changes in parameters by the alarm. This problem often occurs as a result of prolonged use of the security system.
  2. To eliminate hardware faults, it is necessary to perform visual diagnostics. The user must ensure the integrity of the microprocessor module connection block and the functionality of the contacts. Oxidation from the connector is removed, and damaged components must be resoldered. Perhaps the problem lies in the effect of moisture on the device, then the unit will have to be disassembled and its board dried.

Problems with the sensitivity sensor

In the event of such a malfunction, the siren will sound randomly, without reason. If the controller was installed incorrectly, it will wear out faster. You can try to adjust the sensitivity level of the sensor, and also check the integrity of the wires that connect it to the unit. The faulty device must be replaced.

Limit switch failure

If the limit switches fail, the Starline B6 alarm will not be able to “see” the open door after the security is turned off.

This will lead to the fact that if the ignition is not turned on within a certain time (programmable by the user), the system will re-activate the protection mode. The contact may move away from the sensor, causing the switch to work incorrectly and intermittently. It is necessary to check its integrity and replace if necessary.

How to connect the alarm itself

The bottom line is that the signaling system should not know that the ignition is turned on when the engine starts automatically. Therefore, an “ignition interlock” is added to the circuit, and the yellow control cord is connected “to the breaking point”:

Alarm connection diagram with auto start

The upper relay shown in the diagram can be replaced with a built-in one. The main thing is that you need to use normally closed contacts (30 and 87A). This option, according to the instructions, was initially set in the settings.

The ignition support relay may be missing - it is needed for the turbo timer to work. The yellow power wire going to the Starline 02 module is connected according to the diagram. Then the alarm will not block autostart in any case.

For the turbo timer to work, you need to not only connect the relay, but also connect the brake control to the alarm input. And according to the instructions, you need to connect the orange-violet cord. Schemes have already been given - use option “a” or “b”. For cars with automatic transmission, the following can be implemented:

  • The brake control is connected to the signaling system according to option “a” (as for manual transmission);
  • The control cord of module “02” is connected to the end of the pedal.

All locks, except the one shown above, must be removed. Otherwise, the turbo timer will work, but not autostart. It is also not recommended to use normally open contacts. Happy installation!

StarLine B6 – reliability and ease of use

The B6 alarm system provides enough opportunities for high-quality protection of the car from illegal actions. The protected areas of the car include not only the doors, windows, hood and trunk, but also the engine, which is blocked using a relay. This makes car theft physically difficult, and the dialogue signal code prevents intelligent hacking. On the other hand, the absence of a tilt sensor makes it possible to steal it using a tow truck, which is sometimes practiced in large cities.

As for ease of use, many owners note the convenient and understandable remote control menu, simple signal circuit, stable operation of the device with a small number of software glitches.

Drawing conclusions, we can say that the Starline B6 security system provides reliable security, but is not the most effective in combating all types of theft. This alarm system is suitable for mid-priced cars that are not particularly valuable to intruders.

We register the key fob in the signaling system

Double-check that the equipment you purchased is actually compatible with the installed alarm system. Know that you need to take with you not only the “new” keychain, but also all the ones that will be used. You will have to register all key fobs (up to 4 inclusive). And, of course, you need to install a new battery, one that is charged to the maximum.

Instructions for TWAGE B6

So, we have already said that the recording procedure will be the same if the B6 alarm is installed in a blue or black case. First of all, you need to disarm the car, for which you just need to press the “2” button on the working key fob. Once you open the door and get into the cabin, you do not need to start the engine. The key must be in the lock in the LOCK position.

Digital designation of buttons B6

Sequence of actions for recording key fobs:

  1. Press and release the Valet button located in the cabin 7 times in a row (the ignition remains turned off);
  2. We start the engine. 7 beeps should sound;
  3. Press buttons “1” and “2” on the key fob. They need to be pressed at the same time. When the recording is complete, a beep will sound;
  4. Action “3” is repeated for the remaining key fobs. The interval between records should not exceed 5 seconds;
  5. Turn off the ignition. The dimensions will blink 5 times.

As you can see, nothing complicated. Some versions of Starline firmware provide something different: at step “3” you need to hold the buttons for 3-4 seconds and release them without waiting for the beep. Which, in turn, sounds a second after that.

Inside the cabin, not only a Valet button can be installed, which helps control the alarm, but also an LED that displays the status of the main unit. When the security mode is off, the diode does not light up; when it is on, it flashes slowly.

Light emitting diode (LED)

If the door (as well as the hood and trunk) is not closed, you will see rapid flashing. And the service mode, which we activated with the Valet button, Starline engineers decided to designate as follows: the diode flashes 5 times, pause, again 5 flashes, etc. Hence the conclusion: before turning on the service mode, all doors must be closed.

The alarm performs its functions either automatically or by signals from the key fob when buttons are pressed. Some of the provided functions and some alarm operating parameters can be changed by programming. The alarm system is equipped with a 3-button control key fob with feedback and a liquid crystal indicator (LCD) and a 2-button control key fob without feedback with LED indication (LED). The dynamic control code of the key fobs is protected from selection and interception. When the alarm executes commands transmitted from any key fob, changes the parameters and operating modes of the alarm and triggers an alarm, information about the state of the vehicle is transmitted to key fobs with feedback and an LCD display. At the same time, the key fob indicators display the current alarm status, sound and vibration signals are turned on, and the display backlight is on. The key fob with feedback uses an original cursor method for selecting some control commands, in which different commands have their own icon, displayed on the key fob indicator. In addition, information about the current time, alarm clock, and temperature inside the car is displayed on the feedback key fob indicator.

Additional recommendations for using key fobs

The main key fob for controlling your alarm is a key fob with feedback and a liquid crystal indicator, which has an original dialog control code protected by a special algorithm. It is this algorithm that is guaranteed to prevent attempts to intercept the key fob code and its subsequent use to disable the alarm mode. The 2-button key fob with feedback without a display uses the same dialog control code as the main key fob with an LCD display. The pager functions are not implemented in a key fob without a display and it is intended only to control the security mode of the alarm. In order to make the most of the functionality provided by the security system, we recommend using a key fob with feedback and an LCD display as the main control tool. If the car is used by two or more owners, we recommend purchasing additional key fobs with LCD displays. The 2-button key fob, despite its high security, we recommend using as an additional one, if it is not possible to work with the main key fob with an LCD display.

The main advantages of the B6 alarm and its disadvantages

AdvantagesFlaws
Large reception radius – up to 600 meters.Large keychain with antenna. The rather bulky remote control is not always convenient to use.
Two-way communication. A notification about violation of one or more zones comes to the key fob. No auto engine start. Modern alarm models have remote engine heating, which is very convenient in cold or hot weather.
Conversational security code, built on the principle of “frequency hopping” and protecting against all known types of code grabbers.Possible interference in a big city. If there is a significant concentration of cars, for example in a large parking lot, the Starline b6 signal may be lost.
Compatible with all types of engines. The versatility of the alarm allows it to be installed on cars from the modern model range and older modifications. Lack of CAN bus connection. The B6 alarm system is not designed to be connected to new vehicles via digital bus integration.

Reviews about the work of Starline B6

PositiveNegative
A simple alarm for a simple car. Security functions are present, it is convenient to use, even though the key fob has an antenna. Fits my Ten perfectly. The signal is not bad, but is already outdated. The B6 has very few functions, a shock sensor and a siren – that’s all. Now the manufacturer doesn’t even produce it. There are only cheap Chinese fakes on the market, which you should never buy.
I've been using it for 4 years now and am very pleased. The range is enough for me, it also works flawlessly in the city, no interference interrupts the signal. I like the feedback; if something happens, the key fob will immediately beep. And the security is reliable, on my box it says “starline b6 dialog” , which means there is protection against signal interception. I bought a car with Starline B6 installed. There is nothing good about this alarm. Everything works in one go. The doors never open right away; if they suddenly start yelling, you also have to poke them 5 times. And the batteries in the remote control run out quickly, so you have to constantly carry spare ones with you.
I have a Starline B6 on an Opel Vectra. I installed it myself, everything works great. The instructions for the car alarm that were in the package are quite detailed, everything is clearly and clearly written out. I purchased and connected central locking and a siren (not included in the kit). For more than three years, I only changed the limit switch, and the batteries, of course. For such an old car, which hardly anyone will covet, this signaling is quite enough. I don't like Starlines at all. None. I had a B6 on one car, which I suffered with and eventually threw it away. The range of action is very small, it only opens close to the car. There were a few more glitches; the key fob constantly lost contact with the receiver. Re-programming the key fob did not help. And most importantly, the customer service is terrible. You won't get an answer from a specialist. I do not recommend this alarm or this manufacturer to anyone.
My husband has an old Mercedes B6. There were no crashes or glitches. I was given a newer model with auto start (from the same manufacturer) for the Cherry I bought. So after six months it started giving errors, I had to go to the service center. And his B6 continues to work. Fewer functions are better, but stable work! Several years ago I purchased a B6. Initially, the second key fob did not work at all. They replaced it under warranty. The main remote control, which is with a monitor, also doesn’t work well, sometimes it doesn’t see the car at all. At the service center, everything is done only for money, they say, if you installed it yourself, there is no guarantee. I repaired it once, and the glitches started again. In short, her place is in the trash heap.
The alarm is excellent. There are many functions, I read that you can even connect a mobile phone. There is a temperature sensor in the cabin, the shock sensor works correctly, there are no false alarms. The keychain is large, brightly illuminated, everything is in Russian and is easy to read. It is very convenient to use. I DO NOT like: no autostart, large key fob with antenna, small reception radius, periodic crashes in the program
. I like: low price, simple controls.
I continue to use Starline V6 for 5 years. I connected it to the new Lancer when I first bought it. I can say with confidence that this alarm
a) durable;

b) reliable;

c) comfortable.

Even though there are many more sophisticated models now, I’m not going to change it.

Recently I finally replaced this alarm with a new Pandora. I'm tired of waking up several times a night to the sound of a siren and the squeak of a key fob, and then hearing from my neighbors. I don’t know how it was for anyone, but for me B6 was constantly triggered, I adjusted the sensor - it didn’t help. I had to dismantle it.
