The Starline A96 security system is one of the most popular and advanced car alarm models available on the market today. The alarm system has a lot of advantages and is popular among owners of various cars, ranging from VAZ 2105 to KIA models. There are several different options on the market today, with slightly different characteristics.
The basic version of 2 channel 2 line has all the necessary functions, including silent arming and disarming, turbo timer mode, remote engine start, as well as settings for almost all required parameters. The dialogue code can significantly reduce the risk of car theft, and a special lock using a PIN code protects the owner in case of loss of keys.
The advanced model 2can 2lin GSM belongs to the same line, but has an additional module that allows remote control via SMS message or phone call. There is also a self-diagnosis system, and the owner receives notification of malfunctions on his mobile phone. The use of special radio interference protection guarantees an excellent signal even in urban environments. Reviews of the Starline D94 keychain.
The 2can 2Lin GPS system uses satellite communications capabilities. The car is connected to Glonass, which allows you to call for help in emergencies. Plus, the owner can determine the location of the car directly from the phone using a tracker.

Alarm Starline E96 \ Basic control functions on the key fob.
Starline A96 alarm key fob with auto start
Most car alarm functions are controlled using the key fob included with the kit. There are four buttons on the case that are responsible for different commands, as well as a monochrome LCD display with icons. The latter help determine which functions are currently active. In addition, the display indicates the time of day and signal strength.
In case of loss of the main remote control, a backup option is provided - a small key fob without feedback and a liquid crystal display. There are only three buttons and it is not so informative, but with its help you can open the car, turn off the alarm or automatically start the engine.
How to correctly set the time on the Starline key fob
The Starline alarm key fob displays not only useful system information, but also the time, which can be manually adjusted.
Most car alarm key fobs that have a screen can also display the time. This is not only practical in terms of controlling your schedule and time awareness, but also convenient when implementing additional automatic start capabilities. Starline does not lag behind its competitors and also uses the watch function in its arsenal. Setting them up is not difficult; you need to know the main principles of controlling the alarm key fob.
Despite the fact that Starline has simplified the time setting procedure to the maximum, some issues related to unsuccessful installation attempts continue to arise.
How to program Starline A96 key fob
To customize the system functions for yourself, you need to enter the programming mode. To do this, you need to disarm the car, turn off the ignition, and then press the Valet service button 5 times. This button is installed by service installers and should be looked for in hidden places: behind the front panel trim, around the pedal assembly, between the seats, inside the door panels, etc.
After pressing the Valet key 5 times and turning on the ignition, the car will blink its headlights five times and emit five beeps. Now you can select one of the configuration tables by pressing the corresponding buttons on the remote control. Among the sections:
- security functions;
- CAN setting;
- setting up input channels that receive commands over the air;
- setting up output channels;
- automatic engine start options.
Next, the appropriate function is selected and by pressing the corresponding button on the key fob, it is assigned the desired value. When installing additional modules (GSM or GPS), an update and firmware will be required to activate advanced functions.
Reasons for settings failure
If the control device displays the wrong time, then first of all you need to diagnose the battery condition in the pager. All remote controls of modern Starline security systems are equipped with an option to indicate battery charge. When the battery loses its capacity and cannot perform its main function, a discharge indicator will appear on the screen. In addition to the icon on the display, the remote control will emit a characteristic melodic signal.
The cause of the failure may be the replacement of the battery. When a new battery is installed in the pager, it automatically resets the time. Please remember that replacing the power source will reset the alarm's anti-burglary protection parameters. After you change the battery, you need to activate the security mode. Only then is it possible to set temporary indicators. The problem of settings failure may be due to the fact that the car owner made mistakes during adjustment.
Andrey Sharshukov showed how to adjust the time values on the key fob from the Starline A93 complex.
Setting up the Starline A96 key fob
Before setting up all minor functions, you need to link the key fob to the car. To do this, you don’t need to be a master – the procedure is very simple and won’t take much time.
- the car is disarmed, and then the Jack button is pressed seven times;
- the ignition is turned on, seven beeps are heard to confirm a successful procedure;
- on the remote control, press the first and second keys simultaneously until a melodic signal appears;
- You can record up to four key fobs as a beacon, the main thing is that the interval between recordings does not exceed 5 seconds;
- after turning off the ignition, the procedure is considered completed, and the machine emits three light signals.
How to set the time
There is a clock icon on the Starline A96 alarm remote control. It is needed not only for convenience, but also in order to correctly configure the autorun functions. These parameters are set as follows:
- key number four is pressed until the melodic signal is heard, and then pressed again;
- Now the time on the remote control is flashing. A short press of button two allows you to set the hour parameter, and button three allows you to set the minutes;
- Clicking on the first key goes to setting the date. The second key helps set the date, the third - the month, the fourth - the year;
- Exit from the setup menu is carried out by simultaneously pressing the second and third buttons.
Setting up autorun
The Starline A96 alarm system has the option of automatic engine start, which allows you to start based on temperature, after a specified time interval, based on battery charge, etc. To activate this function you need:
- Long press the fourth button until one beep sounds;
- short presses select the appropriate option, for example, start based on engine temperature;
- simultaneously press keys two and three to set the appropriate parameters. We use them one by one to select the appropriate value;
- The system saves the settings automatically; all you need to do is not press anything for five seconds.
Turbo timer Starline A96
The car alarm has several additional useful functions, such as a turbo timer option. This is an extremely useful function, because during driving the turbine heats up to high temperatures, and its rapid cooling significantly reduces its service life. Therefore, it is recommended to leave the engine idling to gradually cool the unit. With the turbo timer function this is done automatically, just enough.
- To enter the settings menu, you need to long-press the fourth key. Now the numbers corresponding to the number and value of the parameter begin to flash on the display;
- to switch the parameter number, use keys No. 1 and 4. You need to go to the 13th point (setting up the turbo timer);
- using buttons 2 and 3, select the required indicator (one, three or five minutes);
- The selection is confirmed automatically; you just don’t have to press anything.
Arming Starline A96
In order to arm the car, just press the first button. After this, the car will emit one signal and blink its headlights once. At night or in sleeping areas, the silent mode will be useful, allowing setting without additional noise. This function is activated by a long press on the third key, and then again by a short click on the fourth button. After this, the silent security mode will be activated.
Turning on the DVR
Many modern cars are equipped with a video recorder. However, it is useless if the car is hit in a parking lot when the ignition is turned off. But the camera can be connected to a car alarm so that it goes off for two minutes when an alarm occurs or is turned on via SMS. Shutdown occurs five minutes after activation.
For the function to work correctly, you will need to program function 27 through the programming menu, and also connect the plus to the green-black contact via connector X2. The red wire goes to the power supply of the unit, the black wire goes to ground, and the other two go to light signals. After this, the plus is soldered to the charger of the recorder, everything is isolated and carefully installed.

How to enable hands-free
For ease of use, the Starline A96 system has a special “Hands Free” mode. When activated, the car will automatically switch to security mode when:
- the tag disappears from the visibility zone;
- when holding the door handle sensor and there is a mark in the visibility range.
The car alarm is linked to a BLE tag and goes off independently. The main condition is the correct connection of the system at a certified car service center. The option also has the ability to disarm the security mode if the owner with the tag appears in the visibility range. Activated using a key fob (via the cursor menu) or by sending SMS command 70 or 71 via a mobile application.
How to open the trunk
When choosing the 2Kan 2Lin system, the alarm has the option of remotely opening the luggage compartment, provided the security mode is turned off. To do this, you need to press the second button twice in a short time. The car will open the luggage compartment and the car will emit several lights.
How to use the video
The network contains a large number of videos on installation, operation and use of the Starline A96 alarm system. It is from the video that it is easiest to understand how to activate certain functions, connect the recorder or perform autorun. Below are several useful and informative videos.
4. Cursor menu
A number of StarLine A96 alarm functions are activated in the cursor menu. The basic principles of its operation are as follows:
- To enter or exit the cursor menu, long press button 4.
- To go to the desired menu icon, press keys 1 and 4 (scroll through the icons forward and backward, respectively).
- To select the function of interest, briefly press buttons 2 and 3.
- To set the desired function parameter, press button 2 or 2 to decrease or increase the parameter, respectively.
How to unlock the key fob
To unlock the buttons and use the key fob again for its intended purpose, you must press the first and fourth keys simultaneously. If the key fob beeps, then everything is done correctly. If the unlocking does not occur, you need to check the power supply of the remote control; perhaps the battery is discharged.
How to disable service mode
This option is needed to diagnose alarms at a service station or service center. If it is activated, the security functions are disabled, it is impossible to link new key fobs and some additional settings. Switching to this mode is possible using:
- cursor menu, selecting the appropriate item;
- by pressing the mark key for a long time (at least 5 seconds);
- using the command “51” via SMS or voice menu;
- through the Starline mobile application.
The service mode is exited in the same way. But the number “50” is used as a voice command or SMS code.
How to turn off the signal level
For convenience, the Starline A96 system is equipped with the ability to turn off sound signals, and also has several profiles for such settings. By pressing the third button for a long time until a melodic signal is heard, and then one short click on the first key, the volume is set to the maximum level.
If you press key three before the melody, and then the second button, the sound will be set to minimum. If you first press the third button for a long time, and then again briefly, then only a vibration signal remains. And pressing the fourth key after holding the third button for a long time will completely turn off the sound and the car alarm will go into silent mode.
How to disable anti-robbery mode
A special Starline alarm mode designed to scare away intruders.
Activated by command “31” via SMS or voice menu, as well as through a mobile application. After activation, the car will turn on the siren and hazard warning lights for 30 seconds, and the engine will lock as soon as the car reduces speed to 30 km/h. The exit is carried out in a similar way:
- by sending code “30” via SMS command. You must also add four digits of the emergency number indicated on the owner’s plastic card to the code;
- by entering an emergency shutdown code using the service button;
- through your Starline personal account. Here you will also need a four-digit emergency shutdown code.
Resetting the key fob to factory settings
If the car was purchased second-hand or the system periodically fails, then it makes sense to reset the Starline A96 settings to factory settings. To do this you will need:
- turn off the ignition, press the Valet service button nine times;
- turn on the ignition, listen to nine sound and light signals;
- press the service button again, listen to another signal;
- click on the first key on the remote control to confirm the factory reset;
- turn the ignition off and on again. Confirmation of a successful procedure will be five light signals from the car.
3. Basic control commands from the key fob
There are 4 buttons on the side of the main Starline A96 key fob. On the additional remote control, the keys are located at the top, and there are 3 of them. Depending on how the buttons are pressed, the Starline A96 key fob can issue different alarm commands.
There are 5 pressing methods in the security system under consideration:
- A short. Single press lasting no more than 1.5 seconds. This way you can press one or two buttons at once.
- Long lasting. Hold down one or two buttons until the key fob vibrates and beeps.
- Double. Two clicks of the same button one after the other.
- Triple. Three quick button presses one after another.
- Consistent. First, long and then short presses of the same or two different keys.
By pressing the key fob buttons in different combinations, you can issue certain commands to the security complex. This simplifies and speeds up working with the alarm system, as it allows you to quickly activate and deactivate functions and modes of interest.
Installation instructions for Starline A96
To install the Starline A96 alarm system on a car you will need:
- set of wrenches with socket heads;
- drill with drills;
- soldering kit: blowtorch, rosin, tin, etc.;
- heat shrink tubes, insulating tape.
- Car alarms are installed exclusively on cars with an electrical circuit of 12 volts. It is advisable to place the main unit in a place protected from vibrations. The most preferable installation location is under the dashboard - this guarantees concealment from prying eyes, as well as a minimum length of connecting wires. The block is fixed using self-tapping screws or double-sided tape to eliminate the possibility of spontaneous movement.
- A transceiver with a signal diode is mounted on the windshield of the car. The main condition is a distance of at least 5 centimeters from metal parts in order to avoid interference or distortion when receiving signals. The interior temperature sensor is mounted so that it is away from heat sources or direct sunlight for it to work correctly.
- The engine temperature sensor must be mounted on its body using one of the M6 bolts. It is advisable to attach it closer to the crankcase cover rather than the cylinder head.
- A siren is also mounted in the engine compartment. The main condition is to avoid moisture, and also place it away from large heat sources to prevent the horn from melting. Also, the siren connection wires should not be accessible from under the car so that an attacker cannot cut them.
- The shock sensor is located near the center pillar. It is advisable to mount it so that you can access sensitivity settings if it triggers too often.
- The Valet service button is installed in an accessible but hidden place. The inner sides of pockets for small items, the central tunnel between the seats, the plane under the decorative plugs of the front panel, etc. are suitable.
- Also, to connect and configure automatic start on cars equipped with a manual transmission, you will need to program the neutral and connect the limit switches to the handbrake. If the car is equipped with an automatic transmission, then the owner must move the lever to the parking position, otherwise autostart will not occur.
First, all components are mounted, and then the system is connected according to the diagram below. Power is supplied through two main wires:
- black. The negative terminal that needs to be attached to the car body is ground;
- red. The positive wire, which is recommended to be connected to the battery or ignition switch.
If the car can be started using the Start button, then the connection is made in a slightly different way:
- the red contact is attached to the battery, but through a fuse designed for a current of no more than 30 amperes;
- The blue wire is connected to the brake pedal;
- the yellow-black cable connects to the start button;
- the yellow and green contacts remain unused.
To implement autorun and turbo timer, an additional algorithm is used:
- the red wire connects to the battery;
- yellow cable to the ignition system;
- green – to the ACC output;
- blue is redundant;
- the black and yellow contact is connected to the starter.
Below is an installation map that will allow you to install a car alarm on any car with an automatic or manual transmission, including Haval H9, Nissan Murano Z51, Toyota or KIA Sportage.
Disassembling the Starline E90 key fob housing
The main keychain StarLine E90 is impact-resistant plastic. It is assembled from three main parts - the front panel assembly with edging, the back panel and the battery compartment cover. If the Starline key fob does not open the car, then one of the reasons may be dead batteries.
First, the cover is removed - unlike the usual StarLine key fobs, here it does not move, but is removed from the latches with a fingernail. Having removed the battery, you can see a tiny self-tapping screw next to the contact spring, which additionally connects the panels.
Having unscrewed it, you can begin to disassemble the case. The panels are held together by four strong latches at the edges; to separate them without damage, it is most convenient to use a thin plate like a metal guitar pick.
Alarm repair
Sometimes the Starline A96 car alarm can malfunction and cause problems for its owner. Among the most common complaints:
- The alarm does not pick up at 20 meters and does not go off. The reason why the car is not disarmed may be a bad signal. In this case, the car simply does not have feedback from the key fob, and accordingly, it does not perceive commands. In this case, you need to check the condition of the power supply element of the remote control, perhaps precisely because of the weak signal, and replace the battery if necessary. Additionally, you need to check the area for radio interference.
- There are also options when the siren goes off spontaneously. The reason for this behavior is that the shock sensor is too sensitive. Both stages (impact and hacking) can be adjusted using a standard screwdriver, reaching the sensor itself (it has special controls).
- Sometimes autostart with automatic transmission does not work on the car, and SP lights up on the key fob display. This means that the car tried to start the car four times, but the starter simply did not have enough force. It is recommended to start it manually or increase the duration of its operation. In this case, for autostart it is necessary that the car is in neutral and the parking brake lever is fully tightened.
- If the alarm does not work, and additional software errors appear (the car starts and stalls, does not close the doors, etc.), then it is best to reset to factory settings. After this, most of the problems should disappear, but if they cannot be fixed, then it is better to take the car to a specialized service, where qualified specialists will sort out the issue and fix all the problems, perhaps there is a mass loose or there is a bad contact somewhere.
Setting up periodic autorun
Periodic autostart for Starline E90 starts from the moment the corresponding mode is activated (“Hourglass” or “Thermometer”). Once the appropriate icon is selected, the key fob will display the current periodic launch setting:
Video: Start by temperature E90/91
- For the “Hourglass” you can set an interval from 4 to 24 hours in 2-hour increments; the options change cyclically by pressing button 1.
- For the “Thermometer” you can set the temperature from -27 to -3 degrees in increments of 3 degrees.
Having selected the desired value, long press button 1. A few seconds after this, the engine will start for the first time, further starts will take place according to the settings until the periodic start is turned off.
At the same time, it is by no means necessary that at the time of autostart the key fob has a stable connection with the central alarm unit. The same applies to auto-start on an alarm clock, which is a serious advantage in comparison with alarms, where the key fob issues the start command every time.
Difference between StarLine A96 and A93
Starline car alarm offers users a wide choice, and each owner can decide which is preferable to him, model A96 or A93. The difference between these systems is small: the main visual differences relate to the different shape of the key fob. But the cost of the A96 system is one and a half times higher, compared to the price of the A93.
This difference is due to the mandatory presence of a 2Can 2Lin module, which is installed on the alarm motherboard from the factory. Thanks to this, installation of the system is more convenient - there is no need to disassemble all four doors of the car to correctly display the “closed/open” status. In addition, along with the A96, you can implement many additional options, such as automatic window lifting, Slave mode, BT Smart and others.
What are the consequences of incorrectly setting the clock on the remote control?
Obviously, if the time on the Starline alarm remote control is incorrect, the system will remain operational and will still protect the car from burglary or theft. However, the user will be deprived of a number of advantages.
In critical cases, when it is late, you will have to start driving on “cold and viscous” oil, which does not provide proper lubricating properties. If repeated for a long time, this can even lead to engine damage. So, correctly setting the time on the Starline key fob not only allows you to take advantage of all the benefits of the system, but also take care of the proper operation and safety of the engine.
What is the difference between StarLine A96 and B96
Also, the 96th modification has several series, such as A96 or B96. Visually, they differ in key fobs that are different in shape, and also in the fact that the Starline B96 model can be purchased exclusively with GSM and GPS, while the budget A96 variations are supplied without them. Some stores have additional bonuses when purchasing a more advanced B96 in the form of special discounts on CASCO insurance when installing the system on a car.

Trouble-shooting
To fix the problem, you need to diagnose the key fob and, if necessary, change the power sources. If the malfunction was a failure of the pager itself, then the device must be repaired or replaced.
After eliminating the cause of the malfunction in the Starline key fob, you will have to re-adjust the clock readings.
There are two options:
- Traditional. Setting time parameters is carried out according to the instructions described above.
- Radical. The power supply in the pager is replaced at 00-00. All time parameters will automatically be reset to zero, and the time will begin to count from the specified point.
Which is better: alarm system StarLine A96 VT or Pandora X1900VT

Setting the time: step-by-step instructions
In order to set the time on the Starline A91 key fob correctly, you must follow the following instructions step by step:
1. Button number 3 (star drawn) is held until 3 beeps sound. After completing the steps described above, the clock icon will start blinking. Now you can set the time using buttons 1 and 2. Button 1 increases the number of hours, and using button 2 the time value decreases accordingly.
2. After setting the clock, briefly press button 3 and set the minutes. By analogy with adjusting the clock, minutes are set by pressing buttons 1 and 2.
3. At the next stage, the alarm clock is adjusted. For this purpose, briefly press button 3. After the icon starts flashing, the indications for this mode can also be set by pressing buttons 1 and 2.
As you can see, there is nothing complicated in adjusting the time on the Starline A91 key fob, but when making settings you should be very careful not to confuse the modes. Flashing the corresponding icon on the display helps to configure the key fob correctly.
Reasons for frequent alarm settings being lost
If time adjustment has to be done quite often, then it is necessary to determine the reason for the unstable operation of the electronic system. The most common reasons for the temporary settings on the Starline A91 key fob being lost:
- Low battery charge.
- Lack of reliable contact between the battery and the terminals of the device.
- Factory defect or device software malfunction.
In the first case, the problem of frequently changing time settings is solved by replacing the battery. To carry out this operation, it is enough to disassemble the key fob, remove the dead battery and install a new battery.
The new battery must be completely identical to the element being replaced in terms of size and current ratings. If it is possible to purchase a more expensive battery, then this must be done. When using a high-quality battery, the frequency of replacement will be significantly reduced.
If the unstable operation of the key fob is caused by bending or destruction of the contacts, then this problem can also be solved on your own. In the first case, it is enough to straighten the elastic contacts to increase their pressure on the contact part of the battery. If the contact is broken, then this part can be soldered using a low-power soldering iron with a thin tip.
A key fob malfunction caused by a manufacturing defect must be corrected at the manufacturer's expense. If the functionality of the device is impaired due to the fault of the motorist, then repair or replacement of the device is carried out at personal expense.
If malfunctions occur that cannot be fixed by yourself, you should contact specialized workshops, where professionals will determine the exact cause of the device’s inoperability and carry out high-quality repairs or replacement of the Starline A91 car alarm key fob.
Setting up the shock sensor
This is one of the important settings. The fact is that it actually uses a vibration sensor. Therefore, in many cases, if the setting is too sensitive, false alarms may occur, for example, if a truck passes by. Actually, this is why the sensitivity of the shock sensor is most often adjusted by owners based on specific conditions.
The setup algorithm is quite simple.
- Press and hold button “3”. Release and press again. You should hear a beep indicating you are exiting to the settings menu.
- Next, we adjust the sensitivity of the sensors. To increase, press “2”, to decrease, “3”. The setting level can be checked by the indication on the display.
- We save the result by holding down the “3” button for a few seconds, after which we quickly press it again.
Money quickly leaves the balance (version with gsm). Solution
Very often, car owners complain about the problem with the balance on their SIM card quickly running out. In fact, there may be different reasons for this. Let's look at the two most common situations that occur in practice.
Often the reason is a communication failure between the Starline website and the mobile operator. In this case, an erroneous message about the end of the balance is issued. To check, simply send a standard USSD balance check request for your operator. This way you will get accurate data about how much money you have on your balance.
If the money is running out really quickly, you need to look at your alarm settings. Most likely the GPRS channel is enabled, in practice it is not required, but the traffic eats up very well. Just turn it off, and the money on your phone will be much safer.
Starline service mode - what is it?
Modern alarm models have a wide range of additional functions in addition to the standard security mode. The Starline A91, E90, E96, B9 and other models have a lot of options that make life easier for the driver: silent security, autostart by timer, alarm clock or engine temperature, turbo timer, GPS tag and others. To configure and check such functions for potential errors, the Starline service mode is provided.
This means that it can be used to check the proper operation of the system, immobilizer, etc. It is also relevant for those cases when the machine needs to be taken into service for preventive maintenance.
Reasons for the impossibility of autostart and ways to eliminate them
The reasons why autorun does not work can be caused by three main factors:
- Incorrect actions of the car owner, for example, forgetting to go through the “software neutral” procedure.
- Failure of security system elements, for example, sensors.
- Installation errors, as a result of which any wire is missing or connected incorrectly.
If the owner's error does not allow the car to start automatically, then you need to refer to the documentation that came with the security system. There you can also find out whether the car alarm connectors are connected correctly. Physical damage requires an individual approach, so it is better to entrust their elimination to professionals.
