How to reset the StarLine A91 alarm system to factory settings

Security systems are desirable for installation on any car. They will help protect your car from theft by blocking the engine or ignition, and will notify you of an attacker’s attempts to enter the cabin. Advanced alarms such as Starline B9, A9 or A91 have a number of additional functions.
  1. The owner can set a timer mode in which the turbine will continue to operate for some time. This is beneficial for the longevity of the assembly.
  2. The engine is able to start independently according to the mode depending on the ambient temperature, according to the set clock or alarm clock. This will allow you to warm up the engine and interior using a button immediately before leaving the apartment.
  3. If you have a Starline GSM alarm module, you can configure additional parameters. The phone will receive notifications about the condition of the car, an option about the location of the car will be enabled, as well as an emergency engine shutdown mode in case of attempts to steal.

However, sometimes the Starline alarm system may malfunction. Incorrect operation occurs due to various factors, including an open circuit or a short circuit. The car is capable of disarming itself from the security mode without pressing buttons or keys, or not disarming at all, and the siren will turn on spontaneously. The alarm can change the engine warm-up time, start the engine at the wrong hours, or not respond to buttons and keys on the key fob.

If such problems occur, the operating instructions say that it is necessary to reset the settings and reset the main parameters of Starline. This step is relevant as a last resort, because after the procedure you will need to program all security mode indicators again.

Why do you need a reboot?

The reasons for the incorrect operation of the StarLine A91 alarm can be various factors: from an open circuit to a short circuit. They can cause the following problems:

  • spontaneous removal of the car from the security mode;
  • turning on the siren for no reason;
  • changing the engine warm-up time;
  • lack of response to pressing buttons and keys on the key fob and the ability to turn off the alarm.

If such problems occur, the developers recommend resetting the system settings. This measure will lead to the fact that the additional functions of an alarm clock, turbo timer, start by temperature and set clock will not work in the car, and other options configured by the user will also disappear. The owner of the system will have to re-set all its tasks.

5. Emergency disarming of Starline A91

For emergency shutdown of Starline A91, a separate function is provided - No. 9. For this, as for other functions, there are 4 options:

  • Option 1. Without a key fob, i.e. without entering a PIN code.
  • Option 2. An unambiguous personal code has been set.
  • Option 3. Disabling is carried out with a two-digit PIN code.
  • Option 4. Emergency shutdown is performed using a three-digit personal code.

If the first option is selected when programming function No. 9, then you can turn off the alarm without a key fob using the Starline A91 service button. Here you need to know exactly where it is installed.

The option to disable the service button may be relevant in many cases. The key fob is lost, broken, its battery is dead, and you don’t have a spare. The alarm can be turned off very simply: open the door with the key, turn on the ignition within 20 seconds and press the Valet button three times. The ignition can be turned off.

5.1. How to set a personal code

When choosing options 2-4 of function No. 9, you will first need to set a personal code. To do this, you first need to enter the programming mode and select how many digits the PIN code will consist of: 1, 2 or 3. After this, you can begin setting up the code itself (the ignition must initially be turned off). For this:

  1. Press the Valet button four times to enter PIN code setting mode.
  2. Next, turn on the ignition. The alarm should emit 4 beeps.
  3. Press the Valet button once.
  4. Within 5 seconds, enter the first digit of the code. It can have a value from 1 to 6. Each number has its own key combination. You can see all the combinations in the table.

If the Starline A91 pin code consists of one digit, then the setup is complete, if it is 2 or 3, then steps 3 and 4 must be repeated 1 or 2 more times, respectively. The main thing is not to forget the code that you installed. After configuration, the system will exit the mode itself, or you can simply turn off the ignition. You can see an example of setting up two-digit code 23 in the picture.

5.2. Emergency disarming using a code

By setting a personal code, you can use it to emergency disable the security mode. Everything is done simply: open the door (the siren will start), turn on the ignition and press the Valet button a number of times equal to the first digit of the PIN code. Then turn off the ignition.

If the code contains one digit, the security mode will immediately turn off, 2 flashes of the side lights will follow, and the siren signals will stop. For two- and three-digit codes, the steps must be repeated. After entering the first digit of the PIN code, turn on the ignition, then press Valet again, but this time a number of times equal to the 2nd digit. The same is done for entering the 3rd digit of the code. For a better understanding, please see the example of entering personal code 26.

What to do if you can’t reset the alarm?

There are cases in which the car does not want to reboot even when resetting the settings and pressing buttons and keys. The cause of this alarm malfunction may be.

  1. There is a problem with the Starline control unit itself. Even if you try to turn off the alarm in an emergency, the unit may not respond to the command to press the buttons. In this situation, reflashing helps. You should take the car to a service center to troubleshoot problems and fine-tune the security system.
  2. Electronics malfunction. If the circuit is damaged, an attempt to reset the settings may also fail due to serious interference or a short circuit.

There are several additional indicators of this problem:

  • before this, the car may not respond to commands from the key fob buttons;
  • there were periodic functional failures;
  • the siren turned on for no apparent reason.

Troubleshooting such a problem is within the capabilities of a highly specialized specialist, so you should contact the Starline service center to solve the problem.

Conclusion

Thanks to the STARLINE multifunctional alarm system, the owner of the car can feel confident about its safety. The “smart system” can be controlled from a fairly large distance, without requiring constant intervention and monitoring. Today this is an ideal option for demanding consumers.

The Starline A91 alarm system is in deserved demand among consumers. It operates at an impressive distance, is able to ignore radio interference, and is simple and reliable to operate. Before using this handy anti-theft tool, you need to understand its basic features and functions.

Reset to factory settings without key fob

As can be seen from the instructions, in all cases a key fob is required. This is done specifically for the safety of the car owner. Otherwise, attackers or hijackers will be able to bypass the system and disable the security. If the key fob is lost and the GSM module is not connected, you can contact a service center where specialists will try to bypass the protection. But this is a risky path that will not necessarily be successful. As a rule, in this case, the board itself is changed, which remembers the user settings.

Where can I find the Valet button?

Not everyone knows what the Valet service key is and where it is located. This is a mandatory component of the Starline security system kit. The button is intended for various emergency situations requiring emergency shutdown of the alarm. For example, if the key fob does not work. Also, the service button is necessary for setting up various programmable functions.

Since with the help of Valet any thief can turn off the alarm in no time, they try to hide the key. Most often, installers place it in the following locations:

  1. Somewhere around the steering column;
  2. In the driver's door pockets or between the seats;
  3. Under the driver's seat;
  4. In the glove compartment or somewhere under it;
  5. In the area of the ashtray, in the upholstery pockets;
  6. In the area of the pedals, most often on the side, so that they do not touch it with their feet;
  7. Somewhere on the center console;
  8. Under the decorative upholstery near the steering wheel;
  9. Near the fuse box (under the upholstery).

Normally, installers themselves show car owners where they placed the key. However, it is often forgotten. Or the car seller does not show it to the new owner. Every car owner should know its location, therefore, we recommend finding Valet ahead of time. As they say: “What if there’s a war, and you’re without a helmet?”

Frequent problems and solutions

There are situations when it is not possible to reset the Starline alarm system to factory settings. There may be several reasons for this:

  1. Control panel malfunction. As a result, the key fob gives incorrect commands and the system cannot be reset. In this case, try to do the job using a spare key fob or repair the device.
  2. Weak battery or low battery. With such a malfunction, commands simply do not reach the central unit. To resolve the issue, replace the power source.
  3. Errors in the applied algorithm. Carefully perform the procedure again, taking into account the recommendations in the instructions. More accurate information can always be found in the manual for the Starline alarm system.
  4. Inability to find the Valet button or its malfunction. You won't be able to do the job without the service key.

As you can see, resetting the Starline alarm is not as difficult as it might seem. To complete the job, you only need a key fob and a VALET key, and the process itself is very similar for all types of security systems of this brand.

In the comments, tell us if you had to reset, in what cases, and what difficulties you encountered.

3. Programming autorun parameters

In the Starline alarm system, you can program not only the functions of the system itself. It provides the ability to configure how the engine will autostart. The list of functions available for configuration is presented in Table 2 below.

Programming table No. 2 Starline A91

The programming principle here is the same as in the case of table No. 1, only to enter the mode you need to press the Valet button not 5, but 6 times. There is also a difference in the light and sound indication, which reflects which function you have selected for programming. The correspondence between the number of siren signals and LED blinks for each of the 12 functions is shown in the table below.
