Where is the valet service button on the starline alarm system?

Each car alarm model of the Starline family, be it the classic A39, B9, E90, E91, or the modern A93 and A91 Twage, comes with a Valet service button. It is used to block any changes to the device shell in the event that the owner of the car needs to temporarily transfer it to other hands (to a car service, for example) or vice versa - programming.

The Starline service button is located in the car interior, in a place that is easy to access for the driver, but invisible to strangers.

What is the Valet button and what is it for?

Self-installation of alarm system starline a93

StarLine service button is a device for controlling security alarm functions, which is used in the following cases:

  1. Switching to Valet mode allows service employees to work with the car, but at the same time prevents their attempts to make changes to the car alarm settings. Or attach additional key fobs to this security system. However, modern StarLine anti-theft systems have a simpler and more convenient method of transferring a personal car into service mode, carried out using a key fob.
  2. The Valet key is used to change car alarm settings and reset the security system to factory settings. Until recently, the service button was the only way to configure car alarm functions. But today, to perform this operation, a laptop is increasingly used, which is connected to the StarLine complex via a USB connection.
  3. Using the Valet button, the car owner will be able to unlock the security system and turn off the alarm even in the event of a malfunction or loss of the key fob.
  4. Pressing and holding the service button for 2 seconds allows you to activate the anti-theft function and prevent car theft. This mode can only be activated when the engine is running, and to deactivate it you will need a personal unlock code.

What does the Valet button look like?

The Valet button is a small device (allows it to be placed in hidden places) with an electrical wire that connects it to the main unit of the security complex.

The author of the video is Sigmax69.

Where is the Valet button?

The place where the Jack key is hidden depends on both the device configuration and the car alarm model.

Service button as a separate node

This design option is considered classic and is typical for both old and new StarLine models, for example:

The most common locations for the Valet button are:

  • under the dashboard;
  • near the mounting block;
  • under the steering wheel;
  • near the gear shift lever;
  • in the glove compartment;
  • in the fuse hatch.

Built-in Jack key

In this case, the button may be connected, for example, to an antenna module, which is why it can be confused with a call key. To prevent this from happening, usually in modern StarLine alarms both buttons can be combined into one with a combination of functions.

This is possible in Starline security systems of the following models with firmware no older than N2:

Starline modelValet button location
E90In the glove compartment or under the dashboard
A91Under the instrument panel or near the gearshift lever
A92Side of the dashboard
A93On the floor of the car next to the front passenger seat
A94On the floor of the vehicle near the pedals
A61Close to the gearshift lever

Malfunctions and repairs

Most often, users encounter the following malfunctions of the Valet button in Starline alarms:

  • Broken contact between the switch and the main unit of the system. The button is connected to the main unit via a special connector located at the end of a small diameter cable. A common problem is a loose connection, as a result of which, with a slight tension or movement of the wire, the contact breaks. Fixing the problem is easy - just insert the contact tightly into the socket.
  • Button failure. The Valet service key rarely fails, because... It is rarely used by the owner of the car. This malfunction occurs as a result of mechanical damage - a kick or any object. Failure may be associated with the appearance of corrosion on the button resulting from exposure to high humidity. To fix the problem, you need to change the key.
  • Broken wire. The cable to the Jack button must have an additional braid, because during vehicle operation it can withstand quite heavy loads. Therefore, damaged or broken wires are a common malfunction. You can easily fix it with your own hands; you just need to replace the cord with a new one.

You can fix these breakdowns yourself. If the malfunction is due to another reason, or the repair did not produce the desired effect, you should contact a service technician.

Setting up the Starline car alarm key fob

  1. The ignition is turned on, the protective mode is turned off. This is the first step when setting up the StarLine key fob.
  2. The protective mode is activated by only 1 button, which is pressed 7 times successively and quickly.
  3. Successful communication between the components is indicated by a seven-time beep sound after the ignition is turned on.
  4. Buttons 2 and 3 are used simultaneously. They are held until the system receives a 1x signal.
  5. The ignition turns off. Blinking the turning lights five times will confirm the correctness of the actions. The alarm configuration for this function is completed.

Enabling auto alarm

Only a master can correctly configure Starline autostart. It uses setting a special PIN code to implement the function. The device memory saves all settings specified by the manufacturer. If additional autorun installation is necessary, the alarm setting is reset to its original state.

In a separate algorithm, actions are performed to prepare the system for launch:

  • Maintaining a neutral position for the lever that controls the manual transmission.
  • Removing the key from the lock after the engine has started running. The engine is left running.
  • Starting the brake operation in manual mode.
  • Close all doors along with the hood and trunk.

A convenient option is to enable autostart from the key fob, depending on the temperature and time indicator.

Setting the time

The issue is resolved by a not-so-complicated sequence of actions:

  1. Wait for two simultaneous sound signals to appear after pressing the third button. Then other signals will follow, there are also two of them. This means that you have finished entering the watch settings. At the next stage, two indicator lights turn on on the screen.
  2. The minutes are adjusted by pressing button 3 once. Buttons 1 and 2 are pressed respectively to increase or decrease the value.
  3. Activating the alarm function involves pressing button 3 next time. The hour value is adjusted by buttons 1 and 2.
  4. The minutes are set by repeatedly using button 3.
  5. The alarm is activated if button 3 is used again.
  6. In the future, the same button is responsible for the timer. Buttons 2 and 3 increase or decrease the available values.
  7. If nothing is pressed for 5 seconds, the alarm settings are simply closed.

Adjusting the volume of sound alerts

In this case, you will need a tool called VALET. First, turn off the ignition, press the button 5 times, and turn on the engine again. Then button 2 is pressed, followed by the appearance of SO UN.

When setting up, start by holding down button 3 for a few seconds, then press the button on the left. The display will show the exact number corresponding to the current volume level. The desired levels are adjusted by continuing the adjustment with the 3rd button. Then you can start using the StarLine alarm system.

Adjusting the sensitivity of the shock sensor

And here you need button 3. It is enough to hold it for a few seconds, then release the button and press it again. The sensitivity of the sensors is adjusted by buttons 2 and 3. The latter is pressed if it is necessary to save the results of the settings.

How to reset the key fob settings?

Sometimes you need to forget previous settings in order to restore the device to its factory state. And there is nothing complicated here if you follow this order:

  • Turn on the ignition with the key in the lock.
  • VALET from the Starline alarm must be pressed 9 or 10 times. The instructions for each specific model specify the exact number of times.
  • The ignition is turned on and several beeps are heard.
  • Another use of the Valet button before the signals are heard in the form of sound.
  • Next comes button 1. After pressing it, wait for a sound signal, then confirm the action with resetting the settings.
  • When the work is completed, the ignition is turned on again, with the turn signals blinking 5 times. The alarm panel is being rebuilt.

Setting up additional features

Features such as opening and closing doors operate in automatic mode. Sometimes the number 10 is used to refuse the operation of a particular function if necessary. The general design and operating modes of the key fobs remain approximately the same. But there are still specific differences between the models. It is better to study the instructions in advance to obtain more accurate information. Then the Starline alarm will not cause problems.

How the button works

The button is used when the alarm is enabled or disabled. When you press a key, a command signal is generated that triggers certain functions. This switches the software into a special operating mode, disabling some of the security options. The algorithm is laid down at the stage of writing programs, and the owner cannot change it. Pressing again returns the security system to standard operating mode.

When using the button while the alarm is on, it is possible to temporarily deactivate the alarms. According to the developers, during this time the owner should calmly enter an individual code and unlock the system. If it does not fit within the allotted time interval, the alarm sounds.

Activating Valet mode

To clarify the procedure for managing the service mode, it is recommended to refer to the operating instructions. Alarms of the same model have been produced for a long time and have different software options, so the activation of Valet mode may vary.

When the service mode is activated, information icons may appear on the key fob displays. For example, the Sheriff ZX-940 system uses an icon in the form of the letter V in a rectangle, which is active while the security complex is in this mode. The Starline alarm uses an icon in the shape of a wrench for indication.

To enable the service mode in car alarms, you need to press the push-button switch or activate the option remotely using a combination of buttons on the key fob. Below are the procedures for turning on and off modes on some common brands of alarms.

Activating Jack mode on Alligator

Enabling the service mode on the Alligator security system:

  1. Disable security and get behind the wheel.
  2. Turn the key to the On position, and then return it to the Off mark.
  3. Then the owner has 15 seconds, during which he must press the button and hold it pressed for two seconds. It is possible to turn on the mode remotely by long-term (three seconds) simultaneous pressing of two keys on the key fob.
  4. The system will turn on a single short siren signal. It is then activated by a constant diode indicating the alarm status.

When the ignition is turned off and the Valet service mode is turned on, the Alligator system sounds a double warning beep. The manufacturer does not recommend operating the alarm with the Valet mode activated.

Activating Jack mode on Sheriff

Enabling the mode in modern Sheriff systems is done as follows:

  1. Press the button with the letter F on the key fob twice. In this case, the system should be in the disarmed mode. After this, the icon on the screen will be activated and blink.
  2. Press the F key again to display the status menu, which defaults to Off.
  3. Select the On position in the menu and confirm turning on the mode by pressing the F button.
  4. You can verify that the mode is activated by the icon on the display and the constantly lit status indicator.

Disabling Valet mode

Disabling the service on the Alligator L430 “signaling” is performed as follows:

  1. Turn the ignition system on and off.
  2. Press the button and hold for two seconds (pressing must be done no later than 15 seconds after turning off the ignition). To turn off remotely, press two buttons on the control panel simultaneously for three seconds.
  3. Wait for two short beeps from the siren and the control diode turns off.

Disabling the service mode on Sheriff systems is performed using a procedure similar to activation. You need to switch the parameter in the state selection menu to Off and confirm the selection by pressing the F button.

Description of functions

What does the override button look like and where is it located on a tomahawk alarm
? Motorists choose the Starline B9 because of its ability to provide a sufficient level of protection for several areas of the vehicle at once:

  • electrical circuits of internal combustion engines;
  • hood, luggage compartment and doors;
  • hand brake lever;
  • car interior.

The security device relay is responsible for protecting the circuits, but in addition, the ignition circuit is additionally protected - the system reacts to the appearance of voltage in the ignition switch. As for the doors, hood and trunk, their protection is ensured by limit switches, which can be purchased additionally. Thanks to the operation of the standard switch when the handbrake is released, it is also protected. And the interior is controlled by a customizable shock sensor.

  1. M21;
  2. M31.

The first of them provides the ability to control the system from a smartphone, thanks to which distance ceases to be an obstacle to setting up security functions. As for the second block, in addition to mobile control of the device, it makes it possible to control the position of the machine based on data from GPS and GLONASS satellites, as well as mobile communication towers.

In general, the functions of Starline B9 are traditionally divided into anti-theft and service. The first include:

  • activation of the alarm mode based on sensor signals;
  • notifying the car owner using a signal from both sirens and on the key fob;
  • immobilizer mode in case of need to immobilize the vehicle;
  • two-stage shutdown that can be programmed;
  • deactivation of the device based on a special programmed secret code;
  • blocking the operation of motor circuits;
  • storing trigger conditions in memory;
  • silent activation of security mode
  • programmable silent alarm operation - alarm signals are given by headlights and lamps on the key fob.

With some additional features, the vehicle owner can achieve enhanced protection. Namely, using:

  • floating control code, which is protected from reading by code grabbers;
  • returning to the last settings before the power outage immediately after power supply is restored;
  • limited number of consecutive operations based on information from sensors;
  • disabling alarms of any type without deactivating the anti-theft system itself.

As for service functions, the main ones include:

  • the ability to maintain the security mode when the engine is turned on;
  • control the system without a remote control;
  • automatic resumption of security mode after an accidental temporary shutdown;
  • control from a long distance not only by sensors, but also by door locks;
  • the ability to lock and unlock doors using the ignition switch;
  • the ability to install two-stage door opening;
  • the presence of additional channels that make it possible to control auxiliary equipment;
  • vehicle detection function in a parking lot;
  • protection of buttons on remote controls from accidental pressing;
  • the ability to configure both a turbo timer and auto engine start;
  • indication of the reasons for the activation of the alarm signal by pictograms;
  • the presence of special sound signals for various reasons for triggering;
  • indication of faults during arming.

Among the functions of remote control of internal combustion engines, it is worth highlighting:

  • starting and stopping it from the control panel;
  • extending the operating mode remotely;
  • the ability to configure start by temperature or time, as well as by alarm;
  • control over the operation of the motor based on signals from the speed sensor, also based on information about the operation of the internal electrical network;
  • disabling the starter in automatic mode;
  • indication of the motor operating status on the LCD display of the key fob using pictograms.

Thanks to such diverse functionality at a reasonable price, the Starline B9 alarm system has not yet lost the appreciation of consumers.

There is nothing scary about blocking an alarm. The main thing is not to panic. As a last resort, if you can’t figure it out, you can look through the Internet and find instructions for a specific model. If this does not help, then go to the service.

How to turn off the alarm in more detail in the video:

I had an unpleasant situation with the remote control; he didn’t want to turn off the alarm with the key fob because he picked up a radio interference problem. I parked my car that day and when I returned from work to the parking lot in the evening I could not turn off the alarm from a great distance, and this happened a total of 3 times. When I was disappointed for the last time and came closer to the driver’s side, I pressed the remote control and yet somehow, miraculously, my car finally unlocked and turned off the alarm.

In the cold weather, I left the driveway in the morning and walked up to the car, pressed the remote control hard and wanted to quickly leave for work, but the car didn’t open the door, so I called my friend who pulls in cars. Having arrived at the scene, he explained that the problem had arisen with the door mechanisms and that the remote control was giving the wrong notification and the remote control was faulty. He confirmed my hypothesis that all this happened due to freezing of the mechanisms. After some time, I opened the car with my magic hands, rechecked everything so that this would not happen again and I got to work normally, in the evening of the same day the car no longer malfunctioned using the remote control.

When such a nasty problem appeared, I promptly did the following. The remote control that I turned on did not react at all to turning it off, much less to turning it on. I thought of doing this: having disconnected the siren from the bell terminal from the battery, the second step was to replace the old battery with a new one. The battery began to function as before in the same condition. Since I understood this issue perfectly, I refused the help of my dear brother, who called me when the problem arose.

Most modern cars are equipped with a car security system that allows you to protect your vehicle. Even criminals prefer not to touch a vehicle with an alarm; ordinary hooligans planning to damage property rather than steal it will also bypass a protected vehicle.

The range of alarms from various manufacturers is huge. At the same time, not all models are reliable and durable, and, as a result, the car enthusiast faces some problems. A car owner who has installed a device on his car for protection often looks for the answer to the question of how to turn off the car alarm completely.

Incorrect operation of the security system can be associated with various problems. Most often, failures occur precisely because of poor-quality equipment. Extremely low or high air temperatures cause problems. Incorrect operation is also associated with malfunctions of the internal components of the device.

A problem may be indicated by overly sensitive operation or problems occurring when turning the equipment on or off. Motorists often encounter false alarms. All of these problems indicate that your vehicle's safety equipment is in urgent need of repair.

Problems with a faulty key fob can be caused by the following reasons:

  • Too much radio interference that interferes with the normal operation of the alarm panel;
  • Problems with the car battery;
  • Low battery.

If the breakdown is due to a dead battery in the key fob, try taking it out, shaking it slightly and putting it back in place. Manipulations of this kind will help to revive the device for a few minutes. Don't forget to replace the dead battery.

Very often, problems with the signaling arise due to a dead battery in the key fob.

Entering and exiting the main menu

To enter the main menu, press the service button five times with the ignition off. Then turn on the ignition. You will be taken to the main menu.

Short press keys 2 and 3 on the key fob to select the programming item you need:

  • AF – service and security functions
  • SF – launch settings
  • CH 01-CH 09 – setting up additional channels (flexible) Starline A93
  • SOUN – setting the siren volume

To exit programming, turn off the ignition.

You can find out where the service button is located from your installer.

It can be located under the panel and tied to some standard harness. Often it is hidden in the space next to the fuse box or directly glued to it.

In the latest versions of Starline A39, the service button is built into the antenna module.

Valet button

Possible locations of the service button

One of the places where a secret button may be located

Let's start with one of the oldest alarm systems still found on cars - StarLine Twage A1-A4. Despite the different functionality, the commonality of the software and hardware platform makes the emergency shutdown method the same across the entire generation (true for all subsequent series).

This series has two emergency shutdown options, selectable in the settings menu. In the first case, it is possible to deactivate the alarm without entering a secret code:

  1. Open the door with the key.
  2. Within 20 seconds of this, turn on the ignition and press the Valet button three times.
  3. Turn off the ignition.

This method does not provide a sufficient level of security: since to turn on the ignition, the thief only needs to use the jumper between the tires of the mounting block, he only has to find the service button to deactivate the alarm.

Therefore, a two-digit code shutdown algorithm is provided:

  1. Open the door.
  2. Within 20 seconds, turn on the ignition and press the Valet button the number of times equal to the first digit of the code.
  3. Turn the ignition off and on again.
  4. Enter the second digit of the code using the Valet button.
  5. Turn off the ignition.

Video: Alarm. How to DISARM a Starline alarm using the Valet button

How to set the code itself

By default, it is set as 11. To install a new one, when the car is disarmed and the ignition is turned off, press the Valet button 4 times, then turn on the ignition. Next, you need to press Valet once, then enter the first digit of the code from the main key fob, press the service button again once and then enter the second digit. You can set numbers from 1 to 4, while numbers from 1 to 3 are set by short pressing the corresponding buttons on the key fob, and 4 by a long and then short press on button 1.

Now all that remains is to activate disarming using the PIN code. With the ignition off, press the Valet button five times, then, after turning on the ignition, use it to enter the number of the programmable function: in this case, we need function 5, that is, the service button is pressed for a long time once. Next, reprogram function 5 by pressing any key fob button except the first one - this will enable emergency disarming using a PIN code. After this, turn off the ignition to save the settings.

On alarm systems of subsequent releases (Twage B6, A61 Dialog, and so on) there are also two options for disabling the alarm: unlocking without a PIN code is performed in exactly the same way as removal using a PIN code. The only difference is that in these alarms the PIN code has from one to three characters, and the numbers take a value from 1 to 6. That is, if in previous alarms there were only 16 PIN code options, here there are already 258.

To select the type of PIN code, program the desired value of function 9. Its factory value is 1, that is, the PIN code is disabled. By selecting values from 2 to 4, we will activate, respectively, a one-digit to three-digit PIN code, and the “PIN CODE” icon will light up on the key fob screen.

The code numbers are entered sequentially according to the same principle as in the previously described alarms. Otherwise, only numbers are set: from 1 to 3 - by short pressing the corresponding key fob button, from 4 to 6 - by long and short pressing of buttons from 1 to 3.

A further development of these systems was the Starline A92 Dialog alarm system and its classmates. Here, by default, a single-digit pin code “3” is set, but the user has the opportunity to choose between one-, two- and three-digit codes, the range of changes in numbers is from 1 to 6. The emergency alarm shutdown algorithm has not changed.

Installing a service alarm button

When choosing a location to install the button, consider the following conditions:

  1. Concealment - it should not be obvious during a quick inspection of the external panels and typical installation locations. If it is relatively easy to access the mounting block on your machine, then you should not stick the button on its outer side - it is better to fasten it on the back side. But secure it so that it can be felt.
  2. No nearby heating or moving elements. You should not glue the button onto the body of the stove or near its pipes, as the double-sided tape will come off. On pedals, you can accidentally hit it with your foot and tear it off or break it.
  3. The presence of other wiring harnesses nearby: when installing an alarm system, you need to pass a maximum of the wiring harnesses through the standard ones, which makes it difficult to find the central unit.
  4. Length reserve: if you glue the button inside the steering column casing behind the cutout of the height adjustment lever, then make sure that in all positions of the column the wire is not stretched, bent or pinched.

You can find out how to install a car alarm by reading the complete installation instructions for Starline A93.

Locations

As a rule, the Starline A91 service button is always installed in the same place, namely under the dashboard. Getting to it is not so easy, but if you know exactly where it is located, then you will definitely do it. This button will come in very handy if you lose your key fob or it breaks down.

Using the service button, you can both activate and deactivate the alarm, which is very convenient if you lost your key fob the day before. Usually this lifesaver button is located near the driver’s seat - it is located directly under the fuse box cover, or rather, a little to the left and a little below the steering wheel.

It is advisable to ask the technicians immediately after installing the alarm where they have assigned the service button. This way you will know exactly where the button is. If you forgot to ask about its location in a car service center or this information simply flew out of your head, then I advise you to look for it yourself. It has a diameter of about 1.4 cm, the size is not large, so when you need it, it may take a certain amount of time to find it, which may cause dissatisfaction among neighbors. So, in order for the residents of your house to continue to greet you, I advise you to find the service button in advance. This button is attached with double-sided tape, so different craftsmen install it in different places.

Location of the StarLine alarm service button

When leaving a vehicle unattended, its owner must ensure that no harm is caused to it. This is done largely by providing the car with a security system or alarm. Most experts in this field say that the StarLine alarm system is one of the most reliable automotive security systems available on the domestic market.

Not only can such a design provide reliable protection against theft, but it also creates an extra degree of comfort when using the vehicle. Today, the most popular is the system where the StarLine service button is located directly under the dashboard in direct access to the driver. This button allows you to turn off the alarm in a timely manner if the car owner has lost the car alarm key fob.

It is worth noting that such a system is quite reliable; when installing it, you will not have to worry about the safety of the car. Most of the StarLine alarm systems are designed specifically for use only in the Russian climate. They are able to operate normally at both high and very low temperatures.

If it is not possible to turn off the alarm in normal mode, there is a special service button, which is not very easy to get to, but if necessary, it allows you to turn off or turn on the car’s security system.

Alarm systems like StarLine are able to function normally even at low or extremely high humidity. In addition, the installation of this system will not fail either with a sharp increase or decrease in temperature. Another important point is that StarLine alarms are the most technologically advanced equipment, so they are unlikely to fail. Key fobs of such systems are very reliable and have an increased level of strength, so you won’t have to expect unnecessary damage from them.
