Modern vehicles simply surprise with the variety of functions they offer. They can do everything: park independently, adjust the level of the headlights, turn on the wipers, control the temperature in the cabin, adjust the position of the seats and steering wheel... They can even drive themselves, without the participation of the driver... However, there are also small, but very useful functions, about which car owners don’t even suspect. These include the Valet system in the alarm system - a protective system, which we will now discuss in detail.
How to use Valet mode in a car alarm.
What it is
Valet mode or simply service mode is widely used in car alarms of various configuration levels and budgets. When this mode is activated, key functions that perform vehicle protection tasks are deactivated. That is, in fact, the car is not protected. This mode is used in situations where the car is safe; it is impossible to disarm it completely, but it is also not worth turning off the system entirely. A striking example is the transfer of a car to a car service center. By turning on the Valet, the alarm will not go off and the technician will have access to the interior, trunk or engine compartment without any problems. In this case, the keychain remains with you.

Valet mode what is it Auto-master
Valet mode is a special safe alarm operating mode in which external interference with the operation of the security device is impossible. When the alarm is switched to service mode, it disables radio tags, secret keys and other alarm control functions.
The Valet service mode is necessary, first of all, when transferring the car to a service center to carry out any technical work. You will also need it in the event of loss or breakdown of the alarm control key fob to emergency disable the security mode, as well as to configure individual functions of the security device.
Important!
Be sure to put your security system into service mode every time you transfer your car to third parties, during repairs, washing or service.
How to remove the alarm from a car completely
Reasons that force one to resort to such extreme measures:
- inoperability or poor operation of the alarm without the possibility of correction - may occur after any repair work;
- installation of a new alarm system - often carried out when purchasing an expensive car with a pre-installed old emergency warning light;
- desire to improve the functionality of the security system;
- wear and tear of the device in a moral and technical sense.
Dismantling an alarm system is a technically quite complex process, especially if it is a two-way alarm system combined with an immobilizer, satellite channel, and sensors. Even some specialized workshops refuse such work or only accept high prices. Therefore, many turn to the people who actually installed the system for this. But what to do if a person’s contacts are lost? In this case, you have to work with your own hands.
If you show patience, be extremely careful, and carefully carry out dismantling and installation manipulations, independent removal of the equipment will be successful. Danger of incorrect dismantling: wiring fire, engine blocking, electrical failure, central locking failure.
Here is the minimum set of tools you will need for your work:
- insulating tape;
- wire cutters;
- set of screwdrivers;
- stationery knife with replaceable blades;
- autonomous light source - LED or mobile;
- soldering iron
If you do not have the skills to work with a soldering iron, you can connect the wires by twisting, insulating the contacts with heat shrink. Below is the sequence of work. Before doing this, you need to turn off the ignition and disconnect the terminals from the battery.
- Pull out the central block. As a rule, it is located under the dashboard, in the driver's area. Or it may be hidden under the upholstery. In this case, its location will be revealed by the wires laid to the device;
- Find all the individual signaling elements using the cables coming from the unit and dismantle them. We are talking about the Valet button, sensors, relays, antenna module, siren. Elements mounted on plastic clamps are cut off with wire cutters. Screwdrivers are used to remove self-tapping fasteners;
- Sequentially disconnect electrical connections directly from the unit. After disconnecting the wires, the places must be insulated;
- Find and disconnect blocking points, fuses, relays. This is the most critical phase of the work, complicated by the search for interrupt contacts and blocking points. It requires a thorough study of the car alarm circuit. After disconnecting the wires from the relay, the contacts must be restored - twisted and soldered. If the relay is connected via CAN, then the task is simplified - just disconnect the connector;
- Remove all non-standard wiring from the head unit to the doors, trunk and hood. The work will take a lot of time, but it will be worth it. Again, if there is a CAN bus, the process is greatly simplified.
As a rule, a car alarm has 2 or 4 locks. However, only some of them can be organized through a relay.
It remains to check the quality of the work done:
- connect the battery;
- wait a little, check for a burning smell in the cabin;
- check if the fuses have been blown out;
- pay special attention to the operation of the central lock;
- start the engine, check again for odors;
- Carry out a test drive with the turn signals and side lights turned on.
If all vehicle systems are operating normally in normal mode, the process of completely removing the alarm from the car can be considered completed.
How to disable Valet mode on Tomahawk alarm system
Standard disabling of the Valet Tomahawk mode is performed in the same way using the key fob or service key. When asked how to remove the Zz indication from the remote control screen, there are two ways to proceed.
Through a keychain.
To deactivate the mode, you need to simultaneously press the buttons where the icons are shown:
- key;
- crossed out speaker;
- trunk lid.
If the sequence of actions is performed correctly, the car will chirp and blink its dimensions once and the corresponding symbol will disappear on the pager screen.

The content of the article
Good day to all! Modern car alarms provide a fairly extensive range of functions. The motorist may not even be aware of some of them, while many do not use the capabilities of others. And this is not entirely correct from the position of maximum vehicle protection. Many people have heard about the Valet mode, but not everyone knows what it is and why it is needed in an alarm system.
This mode is popularly known as service mode. I suggest you understand its features, understand what it is used for, how to enable and disable it.
Interestingly, there are usually many more difficulties with disabling Jack than with activating it. But it’s still easier than turning off the alarm without a key fob, as we recently talked about.
Disabling valet mode
If the machine shows signs that the Valet mode is active, or the corresponding indicator is displayed on the control panel, it will need to be turned off.
In fact, in almost all cases, an identical method is used to deactivate the service mode. But it is still better to clarify this in the instructions.
Bosal towbars and exhaust systems: European excellence
Typically you need to do the following:
- sit in the car;
- insert the key into the ignition;
- turn the engine on and off;
- after turning off the engine, wait 10 seconds;
- hold down the Valet button for a few seconds;
- if you have a switch, then move it to the Off position;
- if it is a key fob, hold down the button with the image of a speaker and an open lock for a few seconds.
If everything is done correctly and this algorithm matches your alarm system, you will hear a double beep and see a graphic indication on the remote control.
Do not be afraid to disable security systems, sometimes switching to this special service mode as needed. Only basic functions are disabled, but not all.
Many car alarm models have a so-called Panic or Anti HiJack mode. Its essence is that you can instantly turn on all systems if an emergency arises. These modes work even when Jack is enabled.
Have you ever encountered Valet? Were there any difficulties with its use and in what situations did you use this mode? Does the specified instruction correspond to the features of turning it on and off specifically on your car?
Error codes on the alarm key fob
The main Starline alarm key fob may produce certain errors indicating a system malfunction. Some of them are directly connected to the service key. In particular:
- OS7;
- SIA.
If the first of them may indicate a general malfunction of the key, then the second indicates that the system is in Super Slave mode, which requires shutdown. To do this, you need:
- turn off the power;
- hold down Valet and apply power;
- after the siren ends, release the key;
- press it four times;
- after the beep, press again;
- press Jack again;
- turn on the ignition.
You can easily find out about other errors that may be associated with the device from the table in the manufacturer’s instructions.

How to enable and disable Valet mode
Valet mode is one of the service modes of car alarms. Using this button you can quickly disable all alarm functions. For example, it can be used when repairing a car in a car service.
Activation methods
There are actually not very many methods for activating the mode - only two, in particular, you can enable it in the following ways:
- Push-button option. In this case, you need to sit in the driver's seat, start and stop the engine. Then, after waiting about 10 seconds, you should turn on the Valet button by pressing it and holding it in this position for several seconds. As a rule, the alarm emits a corresponding sound signal, which confirms activation, and the indicator light lights up.
- Activation by standard car alarm remote control. In this case, you must first make sure that the security system is disabled and disarmed. Then the procedure is similar to point 1, with the only difference that you need to press not the Valet button itself, installed in the cabin, but the button on the car alarm key fob.
Note. In different types of car alarms, different symbols may be used on the key fob screen to confirm the activation of the service mode. And also, when you try to turn on the ignition, the system will give a corresponding signal when the Valet mode is on, notifying you that the alarm in the car is disabled.
It is also worth keeping in mind that when Valet mode is activated, not all functions of the security system are disabled. The main emergency modes are usually not disabled. This primarily applies to the “Panic” mode, when you need to activate the alarm in the car immediately.
Deactivation methods
Exiting the service mode is basically the same for security systems of different brands. There are several stages of deactivation:
- You need to get behind the wheel of a vehicle.
- Start and stop the engine.
- After 10 seconds, you need to press and hold the button for a few more seconds, then select the “Off” position.
- When using the remote method, you need to simultaneously press the lock and speaker buttons on the key fob for about 4 seconds.
If everything is done correctly, the car alarm will give a corresponding signal to disable the service mode - this can be either an audio alert or a graphic display on the key fob.
Emergency shutdown
In this context, emergency means disabling an alarm that is not configured in encoding mode. Unlocking is carried out using the ignition key and the “Valet” button.
Taking into account the fact that stopping the alarm, especially on modern expensive models, is a rather complicated process, it is advisable to entrust emergency shutdown to specialists. Unprofessional intervention is dangerous because it can lead to serious consequences in the form of blocking the power plant at the software level.
Functions of the jack button and how to use the button mechanism
A modern car alarm without a jack button is like a car without a steering mechanism. This miniature device will allow the driver to solve the following tasks:
- emergency shutdown of the car alarm - if it cannot be turned off in the usual way;
- car alarm programming;
- turning off the siren in case of discharge or breakage of the key fob.
To quickly find a button in a car dealership and turn off a screaming siren, you need to know its precise location
location. The jack button, which has the indispensable override function, is connected to a thick, orange wire. Depending on the alarm model, it may be darker or lighter, and also have brown stripes.
In order to use the push-button mechanism as intended and use the jack switch as intended, you need to go through a few simple steps. If the car alarm works for no reason, the siren breaks, and you can’t use the key fob, you should do the following:
- open the car door and get to the place where the push-button mechanism is located;
- make the required number of presses on the button while maintaining a certain interval - for each car alarm it is indicated in the instructions;
- enter a special code for the system - it can be two-digit or three-digit, most often it is 11, 111, 123.
After these steps, the siren signal will be completely turned off and using the jack you can reprogram the car alarm in a new way. The override system always works properly and efficiently.
To avoid searching for the layout of wires and the location of the button in extreme situations, the driver must know exactly where the jack is and how to use the button.
How to disable KGB VS-4000
Disabling this alarm is possible in two modes - emergency and using a personal code. Let's start the description with the first method:
- open the doors with the key;
- turn on the ignition;
- within the next 10 seconds, press and release the “Jack” button.
If you did everything correctly, then in confirmation the siren will emit two short beeps, and the built-in speaker of the key fob will emit 4 beeps, and the icon LED will flash on its display for 15 seconds.
To unlock the alarm using a personal code you must:
- open the car door with the key;
- turn on the ignition;
- within the next 15 seconds, press the “Valet” button as many times as the number corresponds to the first digit of the code (remember that the first press of the button must be no later than 5 seconds after turning on the ignition);
- if you have more than one digit in the code, then turn off and turn on the ignition again and repeat the entry procedure;
- When all the numbers have been entered, turn off and turn on the ignition again - the alarm will be cleared.
If you entered the wrong code once, the system will freely allow you to enter it again. However, if you make a mistake a second time, the alarm will not respond to your actions for 3 minutes. In this case, the LED and alarm will work.
Results
Finally, I would like to draw your attention to making sure you know where the “Jack” button is located in your car . After all, it is thanks to it that you will be able to turn off the alarm yourself; check this information in advance. If you bought a car secondhand, then ask the former owner for the location of the button so that, if necessary, you know how to turn off the alarm on the car so that its engine will start and you can continue to operate it. Also, be sure to find out what kind of alarm system is installed on your car, and accordingly, study the sequence of actions to disable it.
What does the Valet button look like and where is it located?
Installers hide the Valet button from prying eyes, so when returning the car to a service center, they are required to inform the owner about the presence of such a button and its location.
Unfortunately, if, for example, you bought a used car, then you will have to solve the difficult puzzle of finding the sensor yourself.
How to find the treasured button? A car is not a three-room apartment, but there is actually plenty of room for a button in the cabin.
Since the Valet button itself on the alarm systems Starline, Sheriff, Alligator, Pandora, Pantera, Scher-Khan and other popular models is miniature in size, it can be installed in the most secret place: under the fuse box cover, under the steering wheel, behind the glove compartment, behind the instrument panel, behind the radio, etc.
If a visual search around the cabin does not produce results, then it is better to take a simpler route - you need to find the central alarm unit and look in which direction the thin two-wire wire leads.
The button itself in most cases is a small barrel with a diameter of one and a half centimeters, in the center of which there is a slightly recessed (protection against accidental pressing) mini-key.
Disabling the alarm on a car without a key fob
If the car door is open, then there is a problem starting the engine. After all, most modern security systems block it. The steps are as follows:
- Turn off the alarm speaker.
- Start unlocking the engine.
It will take some time to unlock the motor. Therefore, you will have to crawl under the hood and turn off the alarm speaker.
To disable the security device you will need:
- Perform the ignition switch combination.
- Press the secret key Valet.
Installation location of the service button:
- Shows the specialist who was involved in the installation of security systems.
- You should check with the previous owner of the car if it was purchased secondhand.
An independent search, if the location is unknown, is carried out at random in the following places:
- Under the car dashboard.
- Near the fuse box.
- Near the control pedal.
Different manufacturers of car security systems use different combinations to put the device into service mode. The combination for Pantera, Sheriff, Alligator security systems is not complicated:
- Turn on the ignition.
- Press Valet for a short time.
- On some Pantera systems, the button must be held for several seconds.
How to turn off the Starline alarm using a button:
- Turn on the ignition.
- Press the Valet button for models A1, A2, A4.
- For models A8, A9, the button should be pressed 4 times.
- Turn off the ignition.
The StarLine A6 system requires a more complex combination. To operate this device, a two-digit code is used, and it indicates the number of presses.
Example for code 11 (factory default code):
- Turn on the ignition.
- Press the service button once.
- Turn off the ignition.
- Turn the ignition back on.
- Press the button again.
- Turn it off again.
There are other systems that also use a two-digit code. By following the steps described above, you can unlock the engine.
What does the button look like?
Important to know
To determine as accurately as possible what the Valet service key looks like, you need to look at the operating instructions.
The manual for any security system, including Alligator and Sheriff, contains images of all components included in the delivery kit. Depending on the manufacturer, this element may have a different shape and color of the insulating layer of the cable that powers it.
Description of the main appearance features that allow the consumer to recognize and detect the Jack key:
- The button is small in size, as a rule, no more than 1.2-1.5 cm.
- There are two wires connected to the key - power and ground. The color of the conductors may match the color of the standard cables. Experienced installers of anti-theft systems specifically change the wire in order to ensure hidden installation of the part.
- On Sheriff alarms and other models, the button itself is located in the center of the black plastic case. It can be made in the form of a circle or square with rounded ends.

Possible causes of failure
What are the main errors in the operation of a car alarm that lead to the need to deactivate it? There are not many of them, but it is important to familiarize yourself with each of them:
- Radio interference. This happens most often in large cities, which are filled with cars and various electronic devices. All the variety of electronics that exist today emits a huge amount of radio waves. They all intersect and interrupt each other's work. In particular, the signals that come from the car alarm key fobs of nearby cars, one of which has malfunctions in the alarm system.
- Key fob malfunction. This usually rarely happens, but anything is possible if the keychain was accidentally dropped or wet. Its breakdown can also occur due to damage to the elements inside the control panel. Most often, key fobs simply run out of charge, which is not recommended. Changing the battery in a timely manner should always be a priority. You can check the battery charge by pressing a special button. If the signal light does not light up, the battery must be replaced. This applies to key fobs with one-way communication. On key fobs with two-way communication, the power status of the device is shown on the display.
- Discharged car battery. All systems under his control stop working, including the alarm system. Therefore, it is important to constantly monitor the condition of the car battery. A low battery charge will be indicated by an icon on the dashboard. If it is still discharged, the car will still open with the key. However, in this case the alarm system is activated. To prevent this, you need to deactivate the negative terminal of the battery. And to turn off the alarm system and start the engine, you can “light” one car from another.
You can deactivate the alarm to eliminate the problems described above using the key fob or without it.
Purpose and activation of the Valet option
What is Valet mode and how to use it, we will consider further. At its core, this function is a service option for the car alarm system. It allows you to temporarily disable all security alarm capabilities. Its activation is appropriate if the car is sent to a service station or car service.
Starting the mode consists of the following operations:
- You should get into the car, turn the ignition on and off, spending a few seconds on this;
- In the cabin, you need to press the Valet button switch for 2 seconds;
- The above action is performed 10 seconds after the ignition is turned off;
- The security alarm will respond with one short squeak, the LED (signal indicator) will light up, confirming that the alarm has been switched to the selected mode;
- When the car security device is stable in the “Valet” mode, using the ignition switch, you will hear 2 reminder signals.
Most models of modern alarm systems provide for activation of the function in question remotely. To do this, you need to perform the following manipulations:
- Make sure that the system is not switched to security, alarm or anti-robbery mode;
- Next, after getting into the car, you need to briefly activate and turn off the ignition;
- After 10 seconds, you must simultaneously hold down the buttons on the remote control indicating the open lock and the speaker (10 seconds);
- The security system will respond with a short siren, the LED will light up (the system has switched to Valet mode).
The placement of the car alarm Valet button is thought out in advance, before installation. The owner of the car is determined with a convenient, secret place. Above we discussed the main positions for installing Valet buttons when installing an alarm system on a car. There are, of course, more supposedly secluded places in the vehicle interior. Let’s briefly try to figure out where to install, unnoticed by strangers, the Valet button when installing a car alarm:
- A secluded place for the key and Valet switch are niches behind the glove box. To do this, you will have to locate the alarm unit nearby;
- Often, in order to hide the button, a transition part between the instrument panel and the center console is used;
- Many consider the interior fuse box to be the most vulnerable location for the Valet button. Indeed, it is not difficult to gain access to the Valet key, and subsequently to the car alarm system;
- To quickly deactivate the alarm, the emergency button is placed near the instrument panel covers on the side of the steering columns;
- The hard-to-reach places for the Valet buttons are the decorative sill plates under which they are installed. Note that this is not the best place for buttons to disable car alarms, with inconvenient access;
- Some drivers place Valet buttons, to disable alarm options, under the removable housings of ashtrays and cup holders.
- A simple, affordable way is to attach standard wiring harnesses to the harnesses;
- An accessible, secluded location for the Valet button, which turns off the car alarm, is in the front seats of the cabin. Common locations for installing Valet buttons are in carpet slots. In this case, the car alarm turns off quickly;
- Car owners regularly use the free space behind the dashboard frames to attach Valet buttons, which turn off alarms;
- Good places to place Valet buttons are removable control panels and lighting adjustments. In practice, the ability to disable the alarm is at hand;
- The placement of emergency buttons under the end covers (on the left and on the right) also provides convenient access to them for car owners.
Given the certain length of the wires connecting the Valet buttons, to activate and deactivate car alarms, they are connected to security systems at a limited distance. Lengthening the wiring of Valet buttons is not practiced, as the resistance increases and the power of the signal supplied to the alarm decreases.
From the information discussed above, we conclude that Valet emergency buttons are a necessary attribute of car alarms. Inside the car you can find many secluded and accessible places for attaching Valet buttons, allowing you to comfortably communicate with alarms. The methods for activating and deactivating emergency modes in car alarms from different manufacturers may differ. We advise you to thoroughly study the operating instructions for security systems.
Valet button
The presence of a Valet button or a service key included with the main instruments is an indicator of the quality of the security system. It is a compact mechanical device that can turn off the alarm if necessary without a key fob.
The Valet button can be located in various places on the vehicle. Where it will be is decided by the owner himself. As a rule, it is hidden in some hard-to-reach niche: near the fuse box, under the dashboard, next to the driver, behind the glove compartment. This is done to protect against hijackers. If the service button is installed by a technician, he must provide the car owner with information about its location. The mini button is connected in most cases to an orange wire. On some alarm models, the wiring may be darker in color, with brown stripes.
If there is no information about the location of Valet, you can find it by the flashing sensor indicator. It is in this area or nearby that the button should be located.
Thus, Valet with the Override function makes it possible to turn off the alarm in extreme situations. Without this button, a modern security system looks very poor. Of course, the “Jack” button provides many additional features:
- alarm system programming;
- emergency shutdown in case of an unsuccessful attempt in the standard way;
- turning off the siren if the key fob is lost or broken.
Intervention using the Valet device means intelligently disabling the alarm. After finding the mechanism, several presses are made while maintaining a certain interval (the number and time are indicated in the instructions for the specific alarm model).
Disabling Valet
The mode is deactivated in the following sequence:
- You need to get into the car, turn the key in the ignition on and off;
- After 10 seconds, you need to press and release the Valet button;
- The security system will respond with two short beeps, and the LED will blink several times simultaneously with the side lights and go out;
- The alarm is functioning normally.
- To disable the option at a distance, you should briefly turn on and off the ignition in the car, after 10 seconds, press the icon of the speaker and the open lock on the remote control, and hold for 3 seconds. After two signals and deactivation of the LED, the car security system entered normal mode.

Features of disabling various alarms
Below are ways to disable alarm systems from various manufacturers if the key fob is lost or broken.
Starline
The sequence of actions for putting the Starline alarm model 525 into sleep mode:
- open car doors;
- turn the ignition;
- hold the Valet button for 5 seconds.
After this, 1 beep should sound and the indicator should start blinking more slowly, which will confirm the transition to sleep mode. You must immediately turn off the ignition and turn it on after 5 seconds.
On a Starline model like Twage A8, turning off without the 2W5BLED key fob is done differently - press the Valet button four times in a row. You don't need to do anything else, just turn off the ignition. You can verify the correctness of the actions by a sound signal: the system will automatically notify you of self-shutdown with two sound signals and short flashing of the side headlights.
To disable the premium Starline alarm system with multi-stage protection type A6 and similar, you cannot do without decoding. This is done by clicking on the “Jack” button with the number of repetitions corresponding to Pin-1. Then you need to turn off and turn on the ignition again. After 5 seconds, press the button again. Simultaneously with turning off the ignition, the signaling system is also unlocked.
Tomahawk
To turn off the Tomahawk alarm system of the popular model RL950LE without a 434MHZ remote control, you need to do this:
- sit in the driver's seat, turn the key;
- click the Valet button four times;
- turn off the ignition.
Successful unlocking can be confirmed by two beeps and flashing side lights.
Alligator
Step-by-step instructions for disabling the Alligator models L430, L530, L730 without a password:
- open the door locks using the car’s “original” key - if the car is on the alarm, alarms should sound;
- turn the lock to ACC position;
- after 5 seconds, press the Valet key once;
- start the engine.
For models similar to M425, a custom code option is used:
- click the key several times - the number of presses is the same as the initial digit of the pin;
- After 5 seconds, start the engine.
For models M725, M2000, S400, the service procedure is as follows:
- open the door locks with the key - if the siren is turned on, alarm signals will sound, turn signals and interior lighting will start flashing;
- activate the ignition;
- after 5 seconds, press the Valet button to deactivate the siren;
- start the engine.
Also, the Alligator alarm models described above can be disabled on the car via a code. The procedure is similar to M425.
If the password is entered incorrectly three times, the anti-theft system will be temporarily blocked.
The Alligator alarm on models similar to the D-810 can be turned off in two ways: coded or using the Valet button. The choice of code mode is enabled by option number 9 (for more details, see the user manual, in the Programmable Functions section).
Sheriff
These alarms are usually installed on domestic Vases and American car models. They are highly adaptable to harsh weather conditions. The main production is located in China.
Sheriff systems are unlocked in two simple ways. Both involve using the Valet button.
The first method, if the code is used:
- open the doors;
- turn on the ignition;
- Enter the code using the “Valet” button - 333 or 123, rarely 22.
Obviously, if the previous owner changes the code to an individual one, you need to find out it.
Second method, if the encoding mode is not enabled:
- sit in the driver's seat and turn the ignition;
- use the service key;
- turn off the ignition;
- Turn it on again and click on the Valet key.
SCHER-KHAN
Sherkhan systems can also be turned off in two ways: without a code and using Pin-1.
Here's how to do it without code on Sher-Khan 5 models:
- open the doors with a chip key, switching the system to Warning mode;
- Turn the ignition on/off 3 times - this will turn off the alarm;
- After 5 seconds, the starter lock will automatically turn off and the system will go into service mode.
But using Pin-1 for Sher-Khan 6 models:
- put the system into alarm mode using the method described above;
- remove the mode by turning the ignition on and off 3 times;
- after 1 second, turn the ignition several times (from ACC to On) - the number of repetitions is the same as the first digit of the individual code;
- turn off the ignition;
- wait 5 seconds - when the signal flashes once, turn the ignition on/off again, but this time the number of repetitions must correspond to the second number of the personal code;
- turn off the ignition, after the sensor flashes, perform manipulations with the ignition again - the number of repetitions is equal to Pin-3;
- after 5 seconds, turn on the ignition, repeat in an amount equal to the fourth digit of the code;
- wait a few seconds, the system will notify you of entering the last digit with two blinks.
The blocking from the engine will be automatically removed if all actions were carried out correctly. If the code is entered incorrectly, the system will return to alarm mode. By default, Sher-Khan 6 alarms have a PIN code of four units.
Pantera
“Panther” is one of the most popular alarms in Russia. As a rule, more of the CLK series is imported into our country. These are the best models, characterized by trouble-free operation in cold weather. During service or abnormal operation of the security system, as well as for other important reasons, it is sometimes necessary to forcibly turn off the system.
The Pantera design allows this to be done in several ways:
- using the key and the “Valet” button - just hold it down for 15 seconds for the system to notify you of successful shutdown with an abrupt signal and a constant glow of the sensor;
- remotely, using a key fob, but having previously neutralized the Anti-HiJack mode, which is responsible for blocking the starter;
- using a personal code and the Valet button, if the mode has been previously activated.
Pandora
Disabling the Pandora system is possible in two ways: with a key fob or using a PIN code and the Valet button. The personal 4-digit Pandora code is always different and is indicated on a plastic card under a protective layer - it comes with the device.
Here's how it's done:
- Use the service key - the number of repeated presses corresponds to the initial digit of the pin, the pause between each entry is 1 second;
- Wait for the system to confirm the correct actions - red flash of the sensor;
- Enter one by one, following the procedure described above, the remaining digits of the code;
- Wait for confirmation of partial shutdown, the engine is blocked - red and green flash;
- Repeat steps 1-4, but the sensors will not light up when entering.
It is noteworthy that if the first digit of the code is “0”, the Valet button will need to be pressed 10 times in a row. If the code was entered incorrectly, re-activation is possible after at least 5 seconds.
What is this little happiness that is rarely remembered?
In the life of every person there are always moments of small happiness. This is when a minor event gives immediate great pleasure. This could be some street find, a glass of water on a hot afternoon, or a randomly vacated parking lot in front of your own entrance. The jack button is just such a gift of fate:
- While fishing, the key fob fell into the water, became unusable and was impossible to get into the car. The alarm system, which had served faithfully for many years, suddenly became its worst enemy. The car alarm continues to protect the interests of its owner and does not suspect that interests have changed;
- The car must be left at the service center for preventative maintenance. I don't want to leave the keychain with the key. And in this case, the valet button or mode will come in handy;
- Valet mode can be used when you need to turn off the car alarm as unnecessary.
The valet button in not all alarms is located in hidden places and has a familiar appearance. In some car alarm models, its role is successfully played by the driver call sensor. Located openly on the windshield of the car, unlike the valet button, it will never let you forget about it. Typing a secret code on such a sensor will turn off the alarm in the same way as when using the jack button.
Important: the valet button can be partially replaced by turning on a similar mode using the car alarm key fob, where you must press a certain combination of buttons.
Step-by-step guide to disabling Valet mode
In Starline alarms, you can disable the Valet mode using the key fob, provided that the remote control is equipped with a display.
The algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- You enter the security system setup menu. To do this, you need to hold down one of the keys to activate the cursor selection of functional options. The button number depends on the model of the anti-theft complex.
- The cursor then moves on the screen to the position of the indicator with a wrench and the inscription “Valet”. The user presses the button on the communicator with the open lock icon once. The security system siren will sound three times, and the external lighting devices will blink three times. This refers to hazard warning lights or side lights, depending on which optical elements the anti-theft complex is connected to. The communicator should emit a melodic signal.
- The indicator with the letter Z should disappear on the key fob display. Often, after disabling the service mode, the turbo timer and immobilizer settings are lost, so they need to be restored.
Deactivation of the service mode using the example of the Alligator L430 alarm system:
- The ignition system in the car is turned on and off.
- The user presses a key and holds it for two seconds. This must be done within fifteen seconds after the ignition is turned off. If deactivation is performed using the remote control, the locked and unlocked keys are held for three seconds.
- If the service mode is successfully deactivated, the alarm siren will sound twice. The system status LED should turn off.
On the Alligator C250, disabling the service mode is done as follows:
- The driver gets into the car, activates and turns off the ignition system.
- Within ten seconds after the last shutdown, the Valet button is pressed once.
- The siren should beep twice and the LED indicator will stop blinking.
If you have a remote control, then deactivating the mode on the Alligator C250 is done as follows:
- The driver gets into the car, the key in the lock is turned to the “ACC” position, and then immediately to “OFF” or “LOCK”.
- Over the next ten seconds, the controls on the communicator are pressed with the lock open and the loudspeaker crossed out. These buttons must be held for 3 seconds.
- To confirm, the siren will sound twice and the LED light will stop blinking.
In Sheriff ZX 750 systems, the mode is deactivated as follows:
Disarming a vehicle using a PIN code
The secret PIN code consists of two digits (factory value 11). Complete the following steps.
- Open the driver's door with the key. The siren will scream, the lighting equipment will start blinking.
- Turn on the ignition.
- Enter the first value of the PIN code by pressing the service key (the number of presses corresponds to the first value of the secret password).
- Deactivate and activate the ignition.
- Enter the second number of the PIN code using the method described above.
- Turn off the ignition system.
- A siren will sound and external lighting devices will flash.
How to completely turn off the alarm yourself
There are 3 emergency ways to disable any car alarm:
- The wire going to the sound signal is cut off with wire cutters. However, this option does not work on all alarm systems. Premium emergency devices have multi-stage protection, but you can try to disable them in this way;
- A similar method when there is no time to search for a secret button and enter a PIN code. The siren will stop working as soon as the negative terminal from the battery is released;
- Another option is to find the relay or fuse that controls the emergency lights. This method is complicated by searching for a relay - on many modern systems it is non-contact, so it can be located in the most unexpected places.
Features of Valet mode
Switching the car alarm to the mode in question means that all security functions of the system are temporarily disabled, except for the “Panic” option. This feature allows you to prevent your car from being stolen, provided that you always take the ignition key when leaving it. When you see that someone is trying to escape in your car, just activate the “panic” button on the key fob. After some time, all security and locking systems will work.
There is also an alternative to the panic mode under consideration. Its name is Antihijack
. If the owner of the car falls into a stupor after the theft and does not immediately press the right button, which is not uncommon, and the car manages to drive away with the criminal for a considerable distance, turning on the mode will activate the security system when the door is opened or after the car is turned off.
If the alarm system does not respond to deactivating the “Jack” option from the remote control, you need to remove the batteries for 2-3 minutes and insert them back. If there is a connection between the key fob and the main unit, all the required symbols should appear on the display.
For a certain period, the Valet function was intended for system installation settings. But, the manufacturers of most security systems have recognized the integrated use of the mode as inappropriate. Currently, it is intended for leaving the car at a service station not with the key fob.
It is better to disable the option in question without prying eyes. This is quite logical, since strangers should not know where the key is located, which makes your machine defenseless. Many people know what Valet mode is, including malicious hijackers. But not always, they manage to find the activation button, which, as a rule, is mounted in a secret place in the car interior. The “Valet” button mode in some systems can be used to disable security if the remote control is lost or broken.
Causes of malfunctions in car alarms
The anti-theft system occupies a vital place in the vehicle security system. For this reason, the occurrence of problems with it, mechanical or hardware, makes the car vulnerable to theft. It is important to be able to understand malfunctions and recognize the first symptoms. It is customary to distinguish several main reasons for the failure of a car alarm:
- power supply problem;
- presence of radio interference;
- software failures;
- control panel malfunction;
- frost below the permissible norm;
- battery discharge.
If power surges occur in a car, they can lead to complete failure of electrical equipment in a short time. If there is no current at all, the signal is automatically de-energized, and the car no longer responds to commands sent by the key fob. It is also possible that the wiring contacts may oxidize or the fuses may break. Because of this, current cannot pass through the circuit, and the anti-theft system cannot respond correctly to commands.
Radio interference is relevant for large cities where there is a large concentration of cars and various electronics. The latter emit radio waves, which, under certain conditions, cancel each other out. For example, a faulty alarm key fob of a neighboring car can interrupt the impulses supplied by the “native” remote control.
A software failure is caused by problems in the operation of the central unit, which performs the functions of the main control. As a rule, the first sign of this is a glitch in the alarm system. Numerous errors appear and the engine is blocked.
False alarms can also be caused by incorrect adjustment of the sensitivity of the controllers. If the technician sets this parameter to too high a value, the sensors will trigger more often, even reacting to vibrations from other cars, animals passing nearby, and loud sounds. Another mistake is that the controllers are installed on a plastic base, which itself increases vibrations. In addition, if the plastic heats up and expands, the sensors will automatically trigger.
The causes of problems with the remote control are falling or water getting inside the microcircuit. When it breaks or malfunctions, the central unit cannot receive commands and control the system.
Severe frosts below 25 degrees Celsius negatively affect the operation of the anti-theft system. In this case, difficulties arise in data transfer. As for battery discharge, this is a common situation that leads to the loss of power to all electrical systems of the car. This often happens in the winter season.
How to activate Valet mode
Valet mode can be activated on modern alarm systems through a push-button switch installed in the cabin, or using the alarm key fob. Let's consider both options.
Using a push button switch
You need to get into the car and insert the key into the ignition, then turn the ignition on and off;
- Next, you will need to wait 10 seconds, then turn the Valet switch to “On” mode. If the cabin has a button to activate the Valet mode, and not a switch, it must be pressed for 2 seconds;
- In response to the driver’s actions, the security system will emit one beep and the control signal indicator will be activated, which informs that the security system has switched to Valet mode;
- You need to get into the car and make sure that the security system is not in the “alarm”, “anti-robbery” or “security” modes;
- After this, turn the ignition on and off;
- When 10 seconds have passed, press two buttons on the remote control - “speaker” and “open lock” (depending on the alarm manufacturer, the icons may vary). You need to hold the buttons for 10 seconds;
- We release the buttons, and the alarm will notify with light and sound indication that the Valet mode is turned on.
Important: When using the ignition switch with Valet mode enabled, the driver will be notified by sound signals that the security system is disabled.
Protecting the hood from chips: options, reviews, do it yourself
- the alarm status is checked;
- the ignition is turned on;
- after 3-5 seconds it turns off;
- expected10 seconds;
- two buttons are pressed on the remote control;
- These are the open lock and speaker buttons;
- the buttons are held down for 10 seconds;
- the buttons are released;
- a sound and light signal appears;
- mode activated.
By the way, if you insert the key into the ignition when Valet is active, the alarm will probably start beeping. They say that the security is disabled.
Installing a service alarm button
When choosing a location to install the button, consider the following conditions:
You can find out how to install a car alarm by reading the complete installation instructions for Starline A93.
Starline does not respond due to problems with the key fob
There are cases when the complex does not execute commands due to malfunctions of the control panel. Most often, the problem is a dead battery in the main key fob. Due to a weak signal, the dialogue code does not reach the radio transmitter or is distorted. Accordingly, the central processor cannot recognize it.
It is also worth remembering that in urban conditions the range of the key fob will significantly decrease due to the presence of numerous interference.
The Valet button on the Starline alarm system does not work
The Valet service key is important for the security system. With its help, you can enter programming mode, emergency shutdown of the system, or reset settings to factory settings. Reason No. 1 why it may not work on Starline A9 models and other kits is the lack of a physical connection, that is, a broken circuit.
To check, it is worth disconnecting the alarm unit from the car and inspecting it. There should be no cracks or mechanical damage on the housing. Next, you need to ring using a circuit tester for the Valet button and LED. Most likely, this is the reason. After identifying poor contact or its absence, you should solder the wires and insulate the connection.
StarLine alarm key fob does not respond to button presses
Owners of the Starline A94 system sometimes complain that the remote control does not respond to key presses. In this case, it is advisable to check whether the key fob button block is turned on by mistake. Entering this mode occurs by clicking on the second and fourth keys. After this, a short signal will sound and the display will show “Block”. Unlocking occurs after a short click on the first and fourth buttons.
Also, the reason for the lack of response (in addition to a dead remote control battery) may be faulty and sticky buttons. In this case, you need to disassemble the remote control (remove the back cover, remove the battery, and then unscrew the fastening bolt and disconnect the case) and clean the contact points of the buttons with the board. If this does not help, then you can order spare keys and install them in place of the old ones using a soldering kit.
Where is the Valet button?
The Valet button is designed to control the operating mode of the Starline car alarm of the same name. If you activate this service, it is possible to disable the security and siren in the event of an emergency or the absence of a key fob and reprogram the system. This mode is available in almost all models - both old (for example, Starline A61, A63, etc.) and new (Starline A 91, A 93, etc.).
The switch is installed when installing the alarm system. In this case, the owner of the car decides where the button should be installed. The selected location should be close to the driver and provide quick and convenient access to the device. But at the same time, the switch must be located in a place hidden from prying eyes so that fraudsters cannot find the Valet button.
Do not place the key near heating parts of the machine. During operation, the adhesive-based mount will heat up, which will lead to the button coming off. In this case, it may knock, break or get lost.
Sometimes service technicians themselves choose the location for attaching the Valet button to the Starline alarm system. When installing security systems, the key is most often mounted under the dashboard or under the hatch of the safety unit. The device is also hidden under the steering wheel, next to the mounting block or gearbox, in the glove compartment, on the floor next to the pedals or under the passenger seat.
When the owner of the car was not present when the alarm was installed or bought a used model, it is necessary to check with the service technicians or the former owner where the Starline service button is located. If it is not found in a timely manner, if the key fob breaks, you will have to spend additional time searching.
StarLine does not respond to the key fob at times
There may be several reasons for an alarm to not trigger correctly. If the problem is intermittent, then you should pay attention to the following factors:
- The car is parked in a radio interference zone. In urban environments, there may be objects near the car that interfere with proper signal transmission. These could be cell towers, airports, sensitive facilities, or simply a large accumulation of metal parts. Some models such as A6, A61 or A8 are equipped with a special signal amplifier that solves this problem;
- low battery charge. The car can receive signals from the key fob, but due to low voltage in the system, do not open the doors or do not autostart. This problem is clearly expressed after the car has been idle for a long time or at low temperatures. And it quickly disappears after regular trips, since the battery is constantly recharged;
- wear and tear of car alarm parts. During operation, car alarm components are subject to wear and tear.
