Before this operation, measurements on a power stand showed that the experimental VAZ 2111 in its standard version has 80 hp. (59.9 kW), while quite a large loss of power naturally occurred in the transmission. By the way, the gearbox is also doomed; in the near future it will undergo surgical intervention.
At the 'AT Racing' VAZ 2111, in addition to replacing the camshaft with the 'Master Motor', the mechanics did chip tuning - they installed an injection controller reconfigured for the new shaft. I also had to change the throttle pipe (the standard one, with a 46 mm hole, was replaced with a wider one - 52 mm). To top it off, in place of a rather large box, “pregnant” with a standard air filter, there was a direct-flow filter cylinder from K&N.
After such tuning of the VAZ 2111, we encountered unpleasant moments. Although the station wagon began to show increased agility, something was wrong with the engine speed - the car seemed to live its own life. In motion, everything was fine, but at times at idle the tachometer needle did not want to drop below the 3000 rpm mark, or even better - the drivers of the cars standing nearby at the traffic lights looked at us as if we were crazy and were in no particular hurry to start, letting the station wagon pass. forward. The reason for this was again these ill-fated revolutions: the tachometer needle jumped up and down a couple of thousand revolutions at clear intervals. From the outside it seemed that a very impatient reckless driver was sitting behind the wheel, hating the red light of the traffic light and nervously pressing on the gas pedal. In addition, the car began to stall (again at idle). As it turned out later, the reason lay in the idle valve of the new throttle valve - the part turned out to be defective. There was no need to be surprised, because marriage is a fairly typical feature of the Russian automobile industry.
But everything seems to be in order. Now you can fully enjoy the new capabilities of the VAZ 2111 engine. Previously, when accelerating the car to 120 km/h, you had to play with the gas pedal so as not to choke the engine, or wait for a suitable slope of the road - the response from a hill is much better. Now, even having reached 140 km/h, you can safely and quite quickly increase this figure, well, let’s say, by 20-30 kilometers. And the car began to take off faster. But fuel consumption has increased. Not much, but compared to the past, the needle on the fuel level sensor began to fall faster. However, how to drive.
All this is interesting, but has our station wagon gained more power? Some companies, without burdening themselves with documentary evidence, promise up to 25 hp, but we hoped for an increase of at least five “horses”. Back to the stand:
