Steering braid	You should not try to change the steering wheel yourself unless you are an expert in this field. The easiest way is to find a ready-made steering wheel in the required color and material. Today they offer a huge range of products for the VAZ 2109. • We cut it into pieces of three diodes.

• All necessary contacts are connected to the contacts on the plate of the factory backlight lamps.
• Before connecting the contacts, we determine their polarity.
• To stabilize the current and power the LEDs, it is best to use a driver.
• We supply a current of 12 volts and check how everything works.

Not a single tuning of a domestic car can be carried out without changing the dashboard. You can make beautiful modifications yourself at minimal cost, and the interior will change dramatically. You can create a new high-quality instrument panel as follows:

• First you need to come up with an unusual design for the tachometer and speedometer, as well as for other sensors. In the age of modern technology, you can find a ready-made version on the Internet, download it, and then print it on a printer. After this, the surface is laminated, which will give it even greater beauty.
• The next step is to dismantle the standard panel. To do this, remove the lining from the steering wheel. You can avoid problems during further installation work by marking the position of the steering wheel relative to the shaft.
• Next, carefully unscrew the nut that secures the steering wheel. We are removing it.
• There are screws located in the area of ​​the car lower casing, then we disassemble the steering column.
• After completely dismantling the dashboard, you can unscrew the arrows from the old speedometer, tachometer and various sensors.
• To give an even more unusual look during installation work, you can repaint the arrows in bright colors.
• You can use spray paint. In order to create a contrast between the hands and the dial, it is recommended to make the latter black. The arrows are often bright red.
• After this, you can install the dashboard in the reverse order and other interior elements that were disassembled at the time of dismantling.

Using the above method, you can significantly change the dashboard and make it unusual. Some owners also install special lighting. Tuning the instrument panel of a VAZ 2109 can be completed in about a few hours.

Sound insulation and cladding

• We dismantle all interior elements and standard trim.

Note. Typically it takes about 14 pieces of insulating material measuring 0.6 x 0.9 meters.

• After soundproofing, we trim the interior.
• First of all, we change the covering on the ceiling (professionals advise gluing it twice, leaving an interval of 5 minutes).

Note. When upholstering the interior, it is imperative to take into account the color scheme and do not forget to glue the doors, dashboard, area next to the gearbox and other parts of the car.

Features of factory production

Insert: Important: Plastic is used as the main material when creating almost all elements of the VAZ 2109 interior. Its thickness is 3 millimeters. When creating the overlays, reinforcement was carried out with a metal frame, which accounts for the vibration.

The outer side is represented by a special film. During the entire production period, high and low panels were installed; some models have the so-called “European panel”. Tuning the VAZ 2106 stove is also carried out quite often due to the fact that it cannot cope with heating the interior during severe frosts. “Europanel” and high panel are similar in the method of installation work:

1. The attachment points are the same. 2. The connection of the air ducts of the automobile system, as well as the stove, is carried out using an identical method.

The differences are only in the wiring harness connections. As a rule, tuning the instrument panel of a VAZ 2109 is carried out by changing the panel that is installed by the manufacturer. Creating a panel from scratch is quite difficult. Therefore, if possible, you can replace the standard panel, for example, with a standard “European panel”.

Steering wheel and its tuning

All experts and professionals believe that the safest is the stock steering wheel of the vehicle. It is this wheel that was developed by the manufacturer and it is this wheel that has passed the necessary tests in accordance with the design of the car. As a last resort, it is recommended to replace the steering wheel with a wheel from the same manufacturer, a newer model. In particular, comfortable and “grippy” steering wheels from the VAZ 2115, etc. are perfect for the VAZ 2109. On the other hand, if the owner wants more, then you can always purchase any “steering wheel” on the market, both from a renowned manufacturer and a steering wheel handicraft wheel.

Still, as mentioned above, the best option is to install a standard steering wheel with braiding, which we will analyze carefully. Needless to say, this steering wheel looks great and feels very comfortable in your hands, thanks to the increased thickness of the rim.

Braid

A leather steering wheel always looks amazing. It is always pleasant to the touch, looks presentable and expensive. In addition, the leather “breathes,” so to speak, which affects comfort while holding the steering wheel on long trips. Let's start wrapping the steering wheel with leather ourselves (this procedure is very expensive for craftsmen):

• First, we cover the steering wheel with cling film to make a stencil.

• We wrap paper or better masking tape over the film.
• Draw the seams with a marker on the tape.
• We cut the tape along the markings, doing it very carefully.
• We remove the stencils, of which there are three.
• Cut out patterns from paper.
• In the leather blank, in places where seams are provided, add 5 mm (along the perimeter of the steering wheel rim, on the contrary, remove 2 mm).
• We sew the leather together, leaving a minimum amount of thread behind the seam, and cut off the rest.
• We sew a seam around the perimeter of the resulting workpiece.

Note. It is best to sew with synthetic threads, which provide strength and proper quality.

• We apply the leather blank to the steering wheel.

Note. To reduce the effect of protruding seams on the front side, grooves can be cut into the steering wheel underneath them.

• We thread the thread, like a lace in a shoe, using a needle.
• We pass the thread through the eyelets of the seams on different sides of the braid.

Note. It is not at all necessary to use glue, since the tightened braid is already securely fixed.

• We fix the thread at the end of the procedure.
• We put all the removed parts and elements back in place.

How to disassemble the dashboard

To make the instrument panel on the car, the manufacturer used a special plastic that has high energy-absorbing properties. The design of the shield consists of the panel itself and a lining, which serves to protect car devices from various mechanical damage and overheating. The shield is based on plastic, the thickness of which is 3 mm; on top there is a pad made of polyurethane foam. The latter is reinforced with a metal frame. A decorative film coating is applied to the outer side of the lining. This panel design is typical, it can be found in different types - low, high panel, and also europanel.

All three types need improvement, and usually the same devices require modernization. For example, the backlight of the speedometer, tachometer and other scales equally require tuning for both the Europanel and other types.

To complete this task, you must first remove all components of the dashboard.

Many car owners who decide to remove the shield themselves approach this procedure very carefully. They buy professional sets of screwdrivers, wrenches and other tools, and only after that they start tuning. In reality, all these acquisitions turn out to be unnecessary, since the VAZ-2109 has a unique structure. This is one of the few cars in which the instrument panel is installed using special clamps. This makes it possible to remove the shield without unnecessary effort - each of the clamps can be easily straightened with a regular knife. After this, you can easily remove the dashboard and trim.

Procedure for removing the instrument panel:

1. Unbend the lower clamps.
2. Open the upper latches on the driver's side.
3. Detach the middle part of the panel.
4. Remove the visor mountings on the passenger side.

After completing all these steps, you will dismantle the panel and find the measuring scales that you plan to upgrade.
