The manufacturer equips its LADA vehicles with an emergency response system in case of accidents “ERA GLONASS” or (SVEOS). The control unit is built into the navigation light on the ceiling and has several rows of buttons. Let's consider the capabilities of this system in more detail.
↑ Description and purpose of the complex
SVEOS is triggered at the time of a traffic accident. Sensors record how fast the car was moving, the force of the collision, the number of people in the cabin and how many of them were not wearing seat belts. The signal is transmitted via the mobile Internet or mobile communications in the form of SMS. The operator is additionally informed about the VIN, number, type of fuel in the gas tank, license plate and color of the car.
The device receives a call from the SVEOS duty officer to clarify the circumstances of the emergency. If the driver is unable to answer, the operator transmits information about the location of the car to the 112 service. Rescuers, ambulances, and traffic police officers travel to the specified coordinates.
This is how the system works when the engine is running and the ignition is on. If the car is not started, with the ignition turned off, then you can contact the ERA-Glonass center manually to receive assistance in case of an accident, breakdown, attempted theft, or attack.
Attention! To do this, press and hold for 2 seconds. SOS button. After hearing the dispatcher's response, report the problem and wait for help.
How to get and install a button in your car
Many drivers currently do not properly understand what the Glonass button is for. After all, there is a mobile phone on which you can call for help. But to call on their own, the victims must be conscious. And you don’t always have to rely on help from those passing by. The inability to call for help may also be due to a lack of cellular signal.
Moreover, half of the deaths in road accidents are associated with late provision of assistance. Therefore, installing a button is necessary for timely assistance in the event of an accident, because the signal is sent to the system automatically, without human intervention. The signal about an accident to the Glonass system and the response speed of services is 30% higher than when calling 112. Additionally, the 112 service dispatcher must explain where the injured vehicle is located. Whereas GLONASS determines the location automatically, and no time is wasted on explaining and searching for victims.
Therefore, many drivers install a panic button on their own car on a voluntary basis. Installation is possible on any type of transport. Qualified installation can be carried out by contacting a certified center. In the Russian Federation there is only one operator of the Glonass system, with which specialized centers enter into contracts. You can only get a certified set of equipment from them. The equipment is mounted discreetly and connected to the vehicle's on-board network or battery.
The wizard performs the following actions:
- Selects a place in the vehicle to mount the control unit: inside the cabin, under the hood, in the luggage compartment.
- Installs GPS and GSM antennas. The antenna is mounted with the active part parallel to the ground on any unshielded area of the car body. The GSM antenna is located at a distance of 1 meter from the GPS antenna.
- Connects power: black drive - to the negative of the car, red - to the positive (through a special fuse.
The connection process is simple and takes little time. If necessary, you can connect additional sensors that will monitor the ignition, fuel level, etc.
↑ How the rapid response system works
ERA-Glonass is an information and navigation complex that includes:
- satellites;
- network for information transmission;
- device in the car.
Under the lighting hood, a mobile phone, microphone, loudspeaker and sensors are installed in the car.
How exactly does ERA-Glonass work on the Lada Vesta? The car device recognizes and transmits the direction of impact (frontal, side, rear), and its force. Then, through Glonass or GPS satellites, it determines the coordinates and contacts the contact center via an emergency call line. The amount of information transmitted includes information about the car (numbers, color, type of fuel) and the condition of road users (whether the airbag was deployed).
The driver has the ability to make a call manually. The data transfer algorithm remains the same as in automatic mode.
The SVEOS operator calls the victims and clarifies information about the accident. If there is no answer to the call, then it sends a call to services 112, 02, 03.
How to track a car using GLONASS through your phone?
To constantly monitor the location of transport using a phone, tablet, or smartphone, you will need a special application. It is downloaded by selecting the operating system, installed, and after registration you can use it.
The principle of operation of the application on the phone is identical to that on the computer. The only difference is in adaptation to the screen of a mobile device. Its advantages: user-friendly interface, minimum traffic.
We offer a system that monitors transport. Monitoring of vehicles involves the use of GLONASS and GPS terminals. With their help, the location of the vehicle and its route are tracked.
↑ Control unit of the Era-Glonass system on a Lada Vesta car
In a car, the warning device is built into the interior lighting unit above the driver's head.
The lighting part and the SVEOS are located on opposite sides, which makes it impossible to confuse the keys.
At the top right and left are the microphone and loudspeaker. In the center, between them, there is a button to call SOS in case of an emergency in manual mode.
Under the emergency call button there is a paired lighting button: on the right - to turn on the light in the cabin when the doors are closed, on the left - when the doors are open.
Below, in the center, there are 3 indicators that light up:
- in red when the seat belt is not fastened (left);
- yellow when the airbag is not turned on (right);
- red for a short time when the ignition is turned on, indicating that Era-Glonass is in good condition, or permanently (if there is a malfunction).
Two side buttons next to each other and three buttons below regulate the lighting of the driver's and front passenger's seats.
The SVEOS unit operates from a car battery and has its own battery, which is used when the car device fails. While the vehicle is moving, the state of the battery is determined and it is recharged. The battery must be replaced after 3 years at a service station certified by AvtoVAZ.
Causes
First, let's highlight the reasons why GLONASS does not work on a car, because the further actions of the car owner depend on this. In practice, there are several basic explanations:
- There is no system or no system at all.
- Equipment failure.
- The mobile network is not working.
- Damage due to collision or other reasons.
- Temporary system failure.
These are the main explanations why GLONASS does not work in a car, allowing us to draw a conclusion about further steps to solve a similar problem.
↑ Guide to using the ERA-Glonass system
The system for calling emergency services in emergency situations, installed on the Lada Vesta, operates in two modes: automatic and manual.
Attention! Automatic configuration and data transmission in an emergency occurs when the ignition is on or the engine is running.
In the first seconds, the device carries out the following operations sequentially: conducts self-testing, picks up satellite signals, determines the real-time mode, and records the speed and direction. Based on the data received, it determines the coordinates of the vehicle's location.
The operator is provided with a minimum sufficient amount of information necessary to make a decision. He receives information: about the location of the car, the nature of its damage, possible injuries to road users, VIN, number, driving parameters before and after the collision. During the transmission of information to the contact center, the backlight of the emergency call button flashes.
When calling the operator:
- The sound of the radio is automatically reduced;
- the SOS key lights up intermittently red in standby mode;
- During a conversation, the light is constantly on.
The operation of the system can be determined by the interaction of the SOS button and the antenna pointer. When the ignition is turned on, the white backlight on the request button lights up and the indicator lights up intermittently red for 5 seconds. In the mode of waiting for a call from the dispatcher, SOS blinks red, the indicator is off. During a conversation with the operator, the SOS key lights up, the indicator does not turn on.
How to disable GLONASS tracking?
Damage methods will range from the dizzyingly crude to the intriguingly sophisticated:
- Fill the terminal with water (tea, coffee) or break it in some other plausible way. But then you will have to prove that it happened by accident. This won’t work for everyone; you have to rely on the strength of character and sharpness of mind of the employer. Those who choose this path risk paying a fine or even being fired;
- Break the antenna. If it is not internal, then it will turn out more believable. You can simply pull it out, bend it, or pierce the cable with a needle. But the last technique immediately catches the eye;
- Turn off power. And after returning from a non-work trip, turn it on again. But the devices usually have built-in batteries that allow them to continue working. And the time it turns off and on will be known to the authorities. Moreover, in some models it is simply impossible to pull out the wire without damaging it;
- Shield. Its essence is to wrap the antenna with foil or other metal - you get a matchbox. And then the car will not be visible to some satellites. But! Three of them are enough for the location to be determined with an accuracy of up to a meter, so it is useless to carry out such manipulations;
- Affect the SIM card. It is she who transmits all the information where it should not. You can’t break it because they will notice, so you can take it out. But after returning to the place, she will notify the owners about all the operations that were carried out in her absence;
- Jam the signal with a special device powered by the cigarette lighter. After use, it can be turned off - and the dispatcher will only receive data that the navigator did not work due to signal loss. You can always blame it on your companion. But if you do this often, there is a risk of detection. The muffler itself is not that cheap, especially if you buy two of them. And the latter is inevitable, if the tracker is connected to both satellite systems (GPS and GLONASS), each of them must be jammed separately. Plus, some modern models are specially equipped to combat such trickery;
- Reflash the module. The most cunning way leading to absolute power on the road. This requires knowledge and ability to work with such equipment, or faithful and more knowledgeable friends.
How to disable GLONASS tracking
The last two methods seem to be truly effective. But here it all depends on the company’s experience in working with drivers.
↑ Manual emergency call of the operator on Lada Vesta
A manual request can be performed with the engine running, ignition on and off. During the autonomous period, its own battery is used. The system is operational for 3 days in the absence of ignition.
The driver must press the emergency call button and not release it for at least 2 seconds. The backlight turns white and then starts flashing red. The emergency warning system is launched: communication with satellite navigators is carried out, the nature of the vehicle’s movement, the position of the driver and passengers in the cabin (the condition of seat belts and airbags) are determined.
Then the coordinates of the vehicle's location are determined. The received data, as well as information about the VIN, number, color of the car, availability and type of fuel are transmitted to the operator via the Internet or mobile phone.
Within a few seconds after the call, a call is received from the ERA-GLONASS contact center. The operator clarifies whether the call is false, what problems have arisen, gives instructions on further actions and, if necessary, transmits data to the line “112”, 02, 03. During the entire voice communication, the key backlight glows without interruption.
Attention! To cancel a call, press the key again for 2 seconds until it goes out.
When calling the operator, report a false call.
↑ Disabling ERA Glonass on Vesta
The system turns off automatically if the car does not start for more than 72 hours. During this period, the battery's own battery discharges. ERA-Glonass goes into the “off” state. In this case, you will not be able to make an emergency call: when you press the SOS button, its backlight and indicator will not light up.
To independently turn off Era-Glonass, the driver needs to disconnect the power connector of the control unit. After 72 hours, the battery will run out and the system will no longer function. For temporary suspension, a radio wave suppressor is inserted into the cigarette lighter. Communication with navigation satellites will be interrupted, but will remain with the call center operator. In the event of an accident, it will be impossible to determine the exact location of the car.
Reality check
AvtoVAZ claims that the Era Glonass module has its own power supply. If the battery runs out, you can supposedly call emergency services within 72 hours. After that it should turn off. I disconnected the negative battery terminal and removed the ignition key.
Pressed the Glonass button and held it for more than 2 seconds. Nothing happened, complete silence. The system does not work when the battery is disconnected. If your battery is dead, you will not be able to reach the operator. I reconnected the battery and checked the operation of Era Glonass again. The call went out immediately and the system employee answered. I asked how I could be heard, he said fine.
I said that I was checking how Glonass works, and asked to tell me my location and the make of the car. The operator replied that he saw the car on the map and named the model. This is how I found out that everything works fine, but without a battery it will not be possible to reach emergency services. Therefore, be careful on long trips.
↑ ERA-Glonass diagnostic system and its malfunctions
The complex runs a self-testing procedure that determines its functionality. The operation of the microphone, speaker, indicator, and communication with the operator must be checked. Before starting diagnostics, you must turn off the engine. Then the ignition is turned on and remains in this position for at least 60 seconds. This is followed by a three-time switch back and forth from the “on” to “accessories” position with an interval of 5 seconds.
After 15 sec. The phrase will sound: “The testing system has been launched.” The indicator indicating the antenna lights up red. A few moments later, the phrase is heard from the speaker: “No errors detected. The microphone and speaker are being checked." You will then be prompted to “Say the passphrase.” The duration of the control message should not exceed 5 seconds. You will hear: “Playing passphrase.” The spoken phrase will be heard from the loudspeaker.
The end of testing is recorded after the words: “Enter the test result.” After which you will be prompted to re-switch the ignition switch “on” - “accessories” back and forth (interval no more than 3 seconds). If diagnosing the microphone and loudspeaker is successful, the phrase sounds: “No errors found. Test call in progress." The call is made, after which the driver is informed that the terminal testing was successful, the call and procedure are completed.
The indicator, which had been glowing red all this time, goes out. During diagnostics, the call key flashes red during a call, and is constantly lit during a call. The multimedia system is switched off when there is a voice message.
Important! Malfunctions are determined by the operation of the key and indicator lamps.
To determine the performance of ERA-Glonass, you must wait 60 seconds. after turning on the ignition.
If there is no connection with satellites, the backlight of the call button first lights up in white in standby mode, and during dialing and voice communication it lights up in red. The indicator does not respond when turned on.
When the battery is low and there is no ignition, the key lights up first white and then red. The indicator does not turn on.
If there is no connection with the operator, the key and indicator light red.
A malfunction of system components can be indicated by the red illumination of the SOS button and the blinking of the indicator in the red range.
How is GLONASS activated?
Activation of ERA GLONASS on a new car occurs after installing a terminal, an SOS button and additional equipment in the car that ensures the operation of the UVEOS. We are talking about sensors, antennas and other equipment. Next, the correct installation is checked, testing is performed and the functionality of the intercom is monitored. In the future, to activate, a call is made to the technicians and a check that the equipment is operating correctly. After all activities are completed, the device is identified, recognized, and a database is added for further processing by the dispatch center.
GLONASS system
Car buyers often do not need to think about how to activate ERA GLONASS on a car, because in most cases these activities are carried out by the manufacturer. But to reassure you, you can perform testing taking into account the information in the instructions. For example, let's consider the principle of activation on the Lada Vesta, during which you can check the functionality of the device using the test mode.
To check the mode on a car, do the following:
- Turn off the engine.
- Turn the ignition key to the On position.
- Wait one minute and switch between the ignition and +ACC positions six times.
- After the third power-up, the system goes into test mode. At the same time, it notifies you about the start of testing.
- Say any phrase after giving the appropriate command.
- After testing the speaker and microphone, you must again make a double switch according to the scheme discussed above.
- If errors appear during testing after the phrase Enter the test result, do nothing for seven seconds.
If there is a problem in activating the Glonass ERA, you must contact your dealer.
The work for foreign cars works on a slightly different principle. For example, consider the principle of activating the Glonass ERA in Volkswagen. Take the following steps:
Open the protective cover at the bottom right to activate the Test Mode key. To do this, use some thin object, for example, a paper clip.
- Hold the button actuated for a few seconds until a vehicle voice message appears indicating that the emergency call test mode has been activated.
- Follow the instructions. To do this, press and hold the red SOS button.
- Wait for your computer to confirm that you logged in successfully. In this case, the blue indicator should turn green for three seconds, and then red.
- Press the emergency call button in the car to activate GLONASS.
- Check the speakers and microphone using the same principle.
To complete the check, press the SOS button and hold it until the green indicator lights up. Wait for the operator to answer and notify him of the test run. In an emergency, the device is triggered, and within a minute an ordinary person responds and transmits data to the authorized services.
GLONASS in the radio
The next question is how to activate GLONASS in the Android radio. Let us immediately note that many manufacturers provide for the operation of the navigation system only with standard equipment. If it is replaced, it may cause difficulties in operation and activation. If the system is initially built into the car radio, there are no difficulties with activation. It is necessary to check the SOS button and other functions taking into account the manufacturer's instructions.
