What is a heater

The main element of the system is the heater, or as it is also called, the “stove”. Its design includes:

  • plastic case with air supply cover;
  • heater radiator with tap;
  • electric fan.

In fact, the heater is a real “stove”. The upper part of its body is equipped with an adjustable air intake cover. Through it, outside air enters the “stove”. Inside the housing there is a heater radiator through which heated coolant (antifreeze or antifreeze) moves.

By itself, heated air cannot enter the cabin with the necessary pressure, even during fast driving. A fan with an electric drive (motor) is used to pump it. It is also located inside the heater housing. The “seven” fan can operate in three different power modes.

Control module

The heating system of the VAZ-2107 is controlled using a special module located at the bottom of the dashboard. Its design includes three levers and a heater fan mode switch.

The topmost lever controls the “stove” tap. In the extreme left position it is closed, and the coolant flows bypassing the heating radiator. If the switch is moved all the way to the right, the refrigerant will begin to flow into it in full, heating the air to the maximum.

The middle lever allows you to close and open the air supply cover. In the left position it will be completely closed and outside air will not be able to enter the cabin. The lid will open completely when we move the switch to the far left position.

The heating system of the VAZ-2107 provides for the distribution of air flows for blowing the windshield and front side windows. This is done using the lower lever. In the right position, the air is directed to the side windows, in the left - to the windshield.

The heater valve, air supply cover, as well as dampers that redirect air flows are driven by cables.

The fan mode switch is located to the left of the control levers. It has four positions in which the fan:

  • switched off;
  • works at first speed;
  • at second speed;
  • at third speed.

What are the symptoms of poor airflow?

If we are talking specifically about the windshield, there may be various manifestations of poor operation of the blowing system. For example, airflow boundaries may appear due to extremely poor quality air flow. This means that at high humidity, your windows will constantly fog up with a clear boundary of airflow. Such troubles have an extremely bad effect on the quality and safety of driving a car. There are other ways to determine the problem:

  • you can use your own hand as an indicator of air flow - turn on the airflow at full power and place your hand under the air ducts, feel the flow;
  • play with the climate system settings, move the damper in different directions, direct the air to the legs, into the cabin and test the air flow with your hand;
  • find out where the air direction regulator is located in the cabin, try to bring it to the desired position “on the glass” by hand;
  • if the car has air conditioning, try turning on the AUTO mode with quick drying of the glass, this way you can accurately see the boundaries of the airflow and draw conclusions;
  • blowing the side windows almost always works well; if this problem is present, it is worth disassembling the front panel and inspecting the entire air duct system.

The high quality of the climate system in modern cars is often called into question due to one small problem. And finding this problem is extremely difficult. You can use various methods to identify problems and get a minimum of results. On forums people often report on completely unexpected ways to solve a problem, which really comes as a surprise even to service technicians. So it is very difficult to diagnose such a problem.

How it works

Having studied the design of the VAZ-2107 heating system, it is easy to understand how it functions. So, the air enters the heater housing through the grilles on the hood of the car and the air supply cover. There, depending on the temperature of the coolant and the position of the heater valve valve, it warms up to a certain temperature and moves further along the air ducts through the deflectors into the cabin. The intensity of the air flow depends on the speed of the machine (with the fan turned off), or on the position of the fan mode switch. By changing the position of the lower arm of the control module, as well as the position of the lamellas in the nozzles, we direct warm air where we need it - to the windshield, to the side windows, or to the center of the cabin.

Nozzles

A nozzle, or deflector, is a device through which air enters directly into the cabin. The heating system of the VAZ-2107 includes four deflectors: left, two central and right. A special feature of the nozzle design is a mechanism that allows you to change the position of the lamellas inside it, redirecting the air flow from side to side, and also block it altogether.

Injector and carburetor: is there a difference in the design of the heating system

The heating system of the VAZ-2107 (injector) is no different from the one that was equipped with the old carburetor “sevens”. Their designs and operating principles are absolutely identical. Radiators, their taps, electric fans and all other elements are interchangeable. The only way the heating system of the VAZ-2107 (carburetor) may differ is the material used to make the “stove” radiator. The old "sevens" had them made of copper.

VAZ cars of the classic family were equipped with a fairly efficient interior heating system, providing good heating of the interior in winter. In addition to high efficiency, the stove on the VAZ-2107 is distinguished by its simple design, which ensures proper reliability of this unit, although it does have weak points.

Common problems and solutions

Despite the simplicity of the design, the heating system of the VAZ-2107 fails quite often. Its most vulnerable places are:

  • heater valve;
  • fan (electric motor);
  • stove radiator.

The heater valve of the “Seven”, like all classic VAZs, breaks down most often. Its most common malfunction is a leak caused by depressurization of the housing. This problem can be solved by replacing the spare part. Repairing the faucet is impossible in most cases.

Another common failure is a broken drive cable. To replace it, you will have to dismantle the tap, because it is impossible to get to its fastening on the side of the locking device without removing it. You should also monitor the cable tension. If you allow it to sag, the faucet valve will not open completely.

As for the fan, it cannot be called reliable. Usually it fails with the onset of cold weather. The cause of an electric motor malfunction, at best, is worn out bearings or brushes, at worst, a break or short circuit in the windings. Repairing the electric motor or replacing it can correct the situation.

The heater radiator also has two “diseases”: leaking and clogging. The first malfunction can be caused either by mechanical damage or by chemical processes. Today, radiators are made of aluminum alloy, which is not particularly resistant to technical fluids. And if old copper radiators could still be soldered, then modern ones can only be replaced.

An important point is the electric motor.

Also, during operation of the VAZ-2107 stove, the electric motor may fail.

There is no need to rush to change it, since the reason for the non-working email is. engine, there may be oxidation of the graphite brushes, due to which they do not contact the engine rotor.

In this case, you should simply disassemble the electric motor and thoroughly clean the brush seats.

If the engine starts to “squeak”, then most likely the lubricant between the stator and the rotor has leaked.

It is necessary to disassemble the engine and apply new grease to the rotor seats. There is also a possibility of wear of the seats, since the engine is not large and does not have bearings installed on it.

Since the engine installed on the VAZ-2107 is low-power, owners of this car often change it to a more powerful one, which is installed on the VAZ-2108.

But since this electric motor does not fit into the seats in the casing, a slight modification of the casing will be required.

Three levers are used to control the heating system:

  1. The top one is designed to supply refrigerant to the radiator unit. This slider is connected to the faucet via a cable. It is mounted on the inlet line. In the extreme left position, the device does not work and the heating unit does not heat. If you move it to the right state, it will open and the coolant will enter the radiator device.
  2. In the middle position, it is possible to control the air flow flaps. If the slider moves to the left state, the air supply from the street is cut off. It will only circulate inside the car. When moving to the far right position, air flows from the street into the car.
  3. In the lower state, the damper is controlled, which is designed to distribute the air flow among the blowers. In the extreme left position, the flow flows to the side deflectors and to the center, and in the right position - to the windshield.

Each of the listed levers can be set to any state, this will allow for optimal functioning of the heating unit.

Disadvantages of the heater in the VAZ-2107

The need to improve or improve the operation of the heating system may arise as a result of the following shortcomings:

  1. Ineffective rear airflow. Due to design features, warm air is difficult to reach passengers sitting in the back. It will take time to effectively warm up the entire interior of the car.
  2. There is a weak air flow from the left deflector device on the “sevens”.
  3. The electric motor of the heating unit is too loud.
  4. The faucet of the radiator device is also considered a weak point. With prolonged use, it leaks, which leads to a decrease in the volume of antifreeze in the system.

Reasons for poor performance of windshield blower

First you need to figure out why this function does not work well. This can happen due to acquired faults or congenital defects of the car. The problem is that getting to the real cause can be very difficult due to the number of common fault patterns. There are several dozen main factors that affect the quality of airflow in the cabin.

But in most situations, you should pay attention to the following points:

  • the front panel is not installed correctly after dismantling it, in which case the holes in it will not coincide with the holes in the air supply system, which will lead to problems;
  • after installing the alarm, many people encounter this problem, this is due to the fact that errors were made during assembly, the air ducts did not match properly;
  • problems may be associated with incorrect switching of climate control modes; the “glass” mode does not turn on due to a loose or stretched adjustment cable;
  • the malfunction may be hidden in the blower fan unit, as well as in the stove system; the adjustment curtains are often bent or otherwise deformed;
  • The cause of the malfunction may also be poor performance of the fan itself, its low rotation speed or incorrect shape of the blades of the device.

Improved side ventilation

The side ventilation system needs to be modified after purchasing an additional fan. The device is mounted in the left line, which will allow forced air flow to the deflector.

The tuning procedure looks like this:

  1. At the first stage, the deflector device is dismantled from the main line. To perform this task you need to use a screwdriver. The deflector in the cabin is pryed up and removed; it must be pulled forward. Similar actions are performed on the other side of the stove.
  2. Dismantling the device is carried out carefully so as not to leave any traces of damage on the center console.
  3. If the deflector is removed, it is necessary to remove the holding device from the dashboard. This element is mounted in the center console using special antennae. The essence of this modernization is that a classic computer fan is installed to force air flow into the heating system.
  4. To install the ventilation device, the element must first be fitted to the deflector body. After applying it to the plastic with a marker or pencil, you need to apply markings. Using a utility knife, a cut is made in the plastic on the deflector.
  5. If the dimensions are marked accurately, the ventilation device will be tightly installed in the housing. This is important, since such installation will prevent the part from loosening while driving.
  6. After completing the installation of the fan, you need to make sure that its blades rotate normally and nothing interferes with them. If problems arise, the device is adjusted. If necessary, the blades can be trimmed a little.
  7. To ensure efficient air flow and no backdraft, the entire structure must be sealed. Therefore, using sealant or the remains of plastic that appeared after cutting the deflector, the cracks are clogged.
  8. If all steps are completed, the ventilation device is installed in the main line area, and then mounted on the body of the deflector element.
  9. After completing all the installation steps, you need to work with the electrical component. It is recommended to connect the fan electrical circuit to the conductor where the current appears when the ignition is activated. This option is more convenient. It is possible to connect the device to the heating unit control cable.

Damper modernization

Modification of the VAZ 2107 stove, which consists of upgrading the lower damper of the system, is the easiest option to implement. If all actions are performed correctly, the device will not open or close randomly when the car drives over bumps. This will ensure efficient and equal airflow on both glasses.

The problem is that service centers often approach this problem rather dryly, starting work with disassembly. Sometimes it is enough to diagnose the operation of the climate control unit in order to perform a restoration and put the car in perfect order.
