HOW TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE VALVE

This unit is not a very complex structure, so cleaning the throttle valve is possible in the garage and can be done by any driver. Cleaning methods are used when it can be superficial and complete. Let's look at them in order.

  1. The surface method is not very effective and is carried out approximately once every 2-3 thousand kilometers. To perform it, you need to have any chemical agent, a rag and a soft brush. Apply the product to the accessible surface of the damper. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, and then wipe everything thoroughly with a brush and rag. When everything is dry, you can continue further operation of the machine;
  2. For complete cleaning it is necessary to have a new throttle valve gasket and O-ring. When carrying out such operations, it is advisable to replace them. Their cost is low, and the responsibility for the quality of the supplied air is enormous. It should be noted that they have design differences, so you need to know which spare part to purchase. Spray the removed flap with cleaning agent several times. The number of times can range from 3 to 5, and sometimes more. This depends on the degree of contamination and the type of chemical. This may require 30-40 minutes of your time. Particular attention is paid to all calibrated channels. Most often they are covered with soot. The throttle valve grooves are blown out with compressed air from a compressor or a tire pump with a nozzle is used. If you were able to flush the throttle valve, then do a similar procedure with the idle air regulator.

In order to remove the mechanism, arm yourself with screwdrivers, which will be needed when freeing the mechanism from the clamps, a 13mm socket wrench, and any cleaning agent.

  1. Cleaning the described unit of a VAZ car begins with removing the plastic lining covering the upper part of the power unit;
  2. After this, remove the hose that provides forced ventilation. Look at the condition of the air pipe, as there may be oil residues there, which indicates that the mechanism also requires cleaning;
  3. Next, remove the cap that covers the expansion tank to eliminate pressure in the engine cooling system, since the damper is connected to the anti-freeze hoses. To do this, you need to remove the hoses that heat the mechanism, after first removing the fastening clamps from them. The pipe system is closed with easily removable plugs;
  4. And finally, we remove the hose with which the fuel tank is ventilated, disconnect the cable that connects the damper to the gas pedal and remove the device itself. To do this, you need to unscrew the two fastening nuts.

Depending on the degree of contamination, either superficial or complete cleaning of the mechanism is necessary.

Types of remote control

The VAZ 2114 was equipped with two types of throttle valves: mechanical and electric. Let's look at each of the dampers in more detail, and also talk about the pros and cons of these units.

Mechanical damper

Such a damper is controlled using a gas pedal cable, that is, a cable runs from the pedal assembly in the car interior to the remote control, which opens the damper when you press the gas pedal. Such a throttle was installed on the VAZ 2114 from the very beginning of its production. The mechanical throttle contains additional sensors necessary for engine operation.

The mechanical remote control is equipped with heating, and it is through it that the engine cooling system pipes pass.

Electric damper

An electronic throttle unit appeared on the VAZ 2114 in 2011 and became known as the E-GAZ system; this damper made it possible to abandon the TPS and IAC sensors. All necessary processes for adjusting the air supply at idle and at speed are regulated by the damper itself.

On this throttle, heating was abandoned, since it was no longer required. This damper has become much more advanced and modern.

Symptoms of a problem

The main reason for contamination of the throttle valve on a VAZ 2114 is the air-oil mixture, as well as fine dust entering through the air filter membrane.   • We unscrew the nuts securing the throttle to the receiver: electronic remote control – 3 nuts, mechanical – 2 nuts;

  • We take out the throttle;

Attention! On an electronic throttle, it is prohibited to press on the valve, as this may damage the mechanism.

  • Flushing consists of cleaning the throttle walls and flap from carbon deposits; for this it is best to use a carburetor cleaner;
  • On a mechanical throttle, it is also necessary to flush the IAC channels; to do this, it must be removed;
  • After washing the remote control, we install it in place, not forgetting to replace the gasket, if it is torn, between the remote control and the receiver.

ABOUT THE PREREQUISITES FOR ITS CLEANING

The following signs of a dirty throttle body should alert the driver that it is time to clean the throttle body:

  • The smooth transition from high to low speeds disappears. The motor may stop spontaneously;
  • It is very difficult to start the engine in the cold season. It may be accompanied by the smell of gasoline from the exhaust pipe;
  • When starting the engine, vibration and “triple” are observed, since there is not enough working mixture for all cylinders;
  • Inability to coast or engine braking.

To get rid of all this, you need to clean the throttle body. In some cases this happens earlier, in others later, but it is necessary to clean the throttle valve. The main culprits of pollution are small particles of dust, which still penetrate through the air filter, and the fuel mixture. When they get on the moving parts of this unit, they impede their movement, reduce the flow area of ​​the intake tract, and clog the channel and rod of the idle speed sensor. Various sources recommend carrying out preventive work when a car runs away from 40 to 50 thousand km. When operating the car in areas with heavy dust, the car will not reach these mileage figures, the unit will clog earlier. Operation in areas where snow cover persists for a long time, this mileage may be even longer.

The quality of the fuel and engine oil used influences the timing of flushing the throttle assembly. Please also consider this issue very carefully.

Signs of a clogged element

You can independently verify that the damper needs cleaning based on several signs:

  • car acceleration dynamics decreases;
  • engine operation becomes unstable;
  • when moving, peculiar jerks are observed;
  • there is no smooth running.

If the above symptoms appear, the damper should be cleaned of dirt as quickly as possible. Cleaning, as we noted earlier, is quite simple, and besides, it will be much cheaper than purchasing a new element.

Flushing the remote control

In this article we will describe two types of DS cleaning:

  1. Surface.
  2. Full.

They differ in the degree of complexity and, accordingly, in quality.

Superficial cleaning

Its essence is that we will not completely disassemble the entire remote control, but will go over the damper with a cloth and remove surface dirt.

For work we will need:

  1. Any cleaning agent: carburetor cleaner, alcohol, thinner, gasoline, wd-40. They differ in the degree of “removability” of dirt.
  2. Rag.
  3. Brush.

First of all, we remove the air filter corrugation from the air filter, take our cleaning agent and spray it inside. We begin to clean the surface with a rag and brush. Also, do not forget to open the damper itself and clean it from the back. At this point the process is completed, we install the filter pipe back, and that’s it. But with this cleaning method, we will not be able to completely clean all the insides of the remote control, blow out all the holes and channels, so it is better to use a complete cleaning.

Throttle assembly (DU): how to remove it correctly?

To ensure that the process does not cause difficulties, it is important to know where exactly the VAZ 2114 throttle assembly is located.

If you don’t know what the remote control looks like, then look for the air filter housing in the engine compartment. The throttle assembly will be located under it.

To clean the device, remove it by sequentially performing the following steps:

  1. The battery terminals are removed.
  2. The expansion tank cap is opened (to release excess pressure).
  3. Remove the plastic cover that covers the upper part of the engine (if present).
  4. The forced ventilation hose is disconnected. It should be inspected and any remaining oil (if any) removed.
  5. The connectors from the throttle sensors are disconnected.
  6. The outlet pipe is removed.
  7. The cooling pipe is removed.

This procedure must be performed carefully. You should prepare the plugs in advance that will be needed to prevent coolant from leaking. M13 bolts can be used as plugs.

  1. The remote control drive is removed.
  2. The gas pedal cable is unscrewed.
  3. The fastening nuts are removed, and then the remote control itself.

Now you can start cleaning the device.

Throttle valve: what is it and where is it located in the VAZ 2114?

In a gasoline engine, the throttle valve (hereinafter referred to as the throttle valve) is an integral part of the fuel system and is an air valve. Its main task is to dose the air supply entering the cylinders to obtain a combustible mixture.

The throttle valve 2114 is connected to the throttle cable and is located upstream of the intake manifold, immediately after the air filter. Whenever the driver increases pressure on the accelerator pedal, the damper opens, and when it decreases, it closes. Where is the DZ located?


Engine compartment

The entire throttle body is located in the engine compartment. It is located between the intake manifold and the air filter. In other words, the air enters the filter, passes through the mass air flow sensor, enters the remote control, and from there goes to the engine through the intake manifold (receiver). To find out where the remote control is located, pay attention to the figure (number 3).

Features of cleaning electronic remote control

For cars that have an electronic gas pedal (E-gas), the process of removing the throttle valve is much simpler than in conventional models. After all, during the dismantling process there will be no need to disconnect sensors, heating hoses and throttle cables.

Complete cleaning of the electronic throttle is done as follows:

  1. The VAZ 2114 throttle is removed. To do this, the air filter and corrugation are dismantled, and then the remote control pipes are disconnected. Then the “trick” from the throttle itself is disconnected.
  2. To unscrew all the bolts you will need a long hex wrench No. 5 (short ones cannot reach the lower far bolt).
  3. Cleaning. The device has a simple design and can be cleaned using an aerosol carburetor cleaner. Wipe the part dry with a soft cloth.

It is important not to try to forcefully move the flap with your finger or put pressure on it.
