  • The heater radiator is the main element of the vehicle interior heating system. Its failure leads to unpleasant consequences for the driver. In winter, the car interior becomes cold, and the windshield becomes covered with a layer of ice. Therefore, timely identification and elimination of radiator malfunctions becomes relevant.

    Required tools and spare parts

    Active use of heating on cold days accelerates the wear and tear of system parts. Rare replacement of the coolant, problems with the thermostat, destruction of the heater housing - all this leads to the need to replace the spare part assembly. With this procedure, it is recommended to replace all heater pipes and antifreeze. To replace it yourself, you will need the following set of tools and spare parts:

    • Flat and Phillips screwdrivers for removing decorative panel trims;
    • A set of keys for removing the heater;
    • Rags and containers for collecting leaked antifreeze;
    • New clamps (metal);
    • New pipes and radiator element.

    Before you start removing the VAZ 2114 heater radiator, you need to drain all the antifreeze from the cooling system. On the main antifreeze cooler under the hood there is a tap for draining the liquid.


    A quick replacement of the VAZ 2114 heater radiator without removing the console is done to preserve the integrity of the fasteners.     Resistor fault

    As noted above, the resistor is designed to change the level of resistance of the current supplied from the generator to the heating system fan. In the VAZ-2114, using a switch, you can ensure the fan operates in three modes. In the extreme position, the fan is powered by a voltage equal to the nominal voltage of the vehicle's on-board network, providing maximum power output. In the intermediate position of the switch, the level of the supplied voltage is reduced due to one of the two resistor windings, the resistance of which increases by 0.20 Ohms. In the third mode, the second winding also comes into operation, due to which the total resistance of the resistor increases by 0.80 Ohms, reducing the fan rotation speed to a minimum.

    If the windings burn out, regardless of the switch position, the fan operates only at full power. The inability to switch fan operating modes is evidence of a resistor malfunction.

    Radiator replacement process

    The replacement process itself should begin with preparation. First, you should drain all the antifreeze from the system and disconnect the battery terminal for safety. It is also worth stocking up on rags, because... There will still be coolant in the pipes. Next you should start the procedure:

    1. Without removing the panel, unscrew the screws securing the center console and move it to the side.

    2. Unscrew the glove compartment fastenings and remove it from its seat.

    3. Remove the screws securing the panel to the body so that it can be moved.

    4. Next, without removing the dashboard, disconnect the adjustment cables by blowing on the stove. They are located on both sides of the decorative overlays.

    5. Remove the plastic cover (the photo was taken with the plastic removed for clarity).

    6. Disconnect the pipes going to the heater.

    7. Unscrew the bolt securing the panel to the body. The photo shows a completely dismantled mounting strip.

    8. Move the unscrewed panel aside and carefully remove the worn part.

    Coolant may remain in the channels, so when trying to remove a system element from its seat, do not spill antifreeze on the electrical components of the machine. Having figured out how to replace the heater radiator on a VAZ 2114, you can check the pipes and the condition of the mounting clamps. For reliability, all elements should be replaced. Also, to prevent repeated removal of the heater, do not forget to periodically change the antifreeze. Over time, it also loses its properties, causing the honeycomb to clog with clots and dirt. By completely removing the plastic, you will greatly facilitate the procedure and quickly understand how to remove the stove radiator.

    Repairing spare parts makes virtually no sense. If there are traces of leaks on the dismantled element, replacing it would be the best solution. Attempts to solder leaks will not lead to results. If the cause of the antifreeze leak is worn-out pipes, the old element can be left. Understanding where the heater core is located, you can get it even without removing the panel. The only difficulty that will arise in the process is the inconvenience of unscrewing the fasteners and pipes.

    ADJUSTING THE TAP

    Method one

    So:

    • Remove the bracket holding the cable sheath to the furnace valve body.
    • We pull the cable off the stove valve lever.
    • Open the tap with your hands to the maximum opening position.
    • Unhook the cable from the levers.
    • We take out this cable. (You can put it in your stash).
    • We will close the tap in the spring, or you don’t have to close it at all.

    If this method does not work, then:

    • It is necessary to adjust the length of the cable and sheath so that in the extreme right position of the lever on the lever block the faucet is fully open
    • Secure the cable with a latch

    Method two

    Damper adjustment:

    • We remove the bracket that holds the cable sheath on the left side of the body - you will feel one lever there.
    • We move the lever towards ourselves - this is the maximum open position.
    • We adjust the length of the cable so that in the extreme right position of the longest lever on the block of levers, the damper is open as much as possible.
    • Let's fix it.

    By adjusting the heater, you can make sure that the heated air hits the windshield. The cabin will also become warmer.

    Attention: It is important not to overdo it when adjusting, so as not to break the plastic to which the cable is attached.

    If replacing the VAZ 2114 stove radiator does not suit you:

    • We move the damper to the “hot” position, secure it tightly, covering it with plastic mass.
    • At the same time, we send the drive cable to the spare parts warehouse. The positive effect is felt immediately, although the temperature of the cabin is now regulated only by the heater tap.
    • It will become so warm that you can forget about hats and sheepskin coats. The driver becomes comfortable even in forty-degree frost. Cold air is insulated.
    • However, the air on the right will be colder. It all depends on the deformation of the damper during the operation of the car: on the side opposite to the cable, the damper cover ceases to close tightly.

    Which stove radiator should I choose?

    If you plan to replace the heater radiator on a VAZ 2114 without removing the panel, you should consider several options from other companies in advance. In addition to factory aluminum cases, copper options with a high heat transfer rate are installed. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. Let's consider several options to choose from:

    • Original version with aluminum fins and honeycombs available by article number 2108-8101060. The price of spare parts starts from 800 rubles and more. Does not have a long service life, but heats quite well;

    • Luzar – an aluminum analogue of the original VAZ version. The low cost of 700-900 rubles and the widespread availability of spare parts contributed to the fact that most owners buy this radiator. Reviews are mixed. Counterfeits are common;

    • Copper Orenburg radiator. Due to the copper alloy, they retain heat well. Repairable. Rarely found in stores. Price: from 1500 rubles and above;

    • DAAZ. This company also produces radiators for 2114. Reviews are good. Many are o (spirals), which increases heat transfer. Quite difficult to find in stores.

    The most common mistakes of those who choose a particular radiator model

    Some car owners prefer units. It is not worth buying such devices. The fact is that they have practically no heat transfer! The warranty on units from this manufacturer is 12 months, but the efficiency of such radiators is practically zero.

    Sometimes car enthusiasts prefer heaters from. These devices are quite efficient. Manufacturer's warranty - 1 year. These radiators help distribute heat evenly throughout the car's interior, but the cost of these units may seem overpriced.

In order for the stove to work effectively enough, you need to change the antifreeze in advance, and then rinse the cooling system of the machine.
