Error P0122 - Throttle Position Sensor A - Low Signal

Code P0122 Throttle Position Sensor Circuit Low Signal

Code P0122 is entered if: - the engine is running; - the signal voltage of the throttle position sensor is less than 0.2 V. The malfunction indicator lights up 2 drive cycles after the fault code occurs. When the ignition is turned on, the scan tool displays a WDKBA variable value of 5.9%.

With the ignition on or idling, the throttle position sensor signal value should be 0.3. 0.7 V (0%) at closed throttle and should rise evenly as the throttle opens to 4.05. 4.75 V (76 81%).

1) -Connect the OBD2 diagnostic device. -Turn on the ignition. Start the engine. -Check if the fault code is currently active? YES, NO (Code P0122 - intermittent. Electrical connections or wiring faulty)

-Turn off the ignition. -Disconnect the harness connector from the throttle position sensor. -Turn on the ignition. -Using a multimeter, measure the voltage between contact “3” of the harness block and ground. The multimeter should show a voltage of 4.9. 5.1 V. Is this true? YES, NO (Open or short to ground in the sensor power supply circuit, weak connection or controller is faulty).

-Select the ADC sensor parameters on the OBD2 device. The output voltage of the sensor should be 4.9. 5.1 V. Is this true? YES, NO (Short to ground in the TPS signal circuit, or the controller is faulty)

VAZ fault code P0122, low signal level of the throttle position sensor. This code is entered into the controller’s memory if, with the engine running, the sensor signal voltage is below 0.2 V. In this case, after 8 seconds, if a permanent malfunction occurs, the “Check Engine” lamp lights up.

The throttle position sensor has an auto-zero function. This means that if, when the ignition is turned on, the voltage on the sensor is in the range of 0.3 - 0.7 V, then the controller uses this value as corresponding to a closed throttle valve. All subsequent changes are based on the initial value.

What are the symptoms of a P0122 code?

  • When this error appears, the Check Engine light will light up on the vehicle's dashboard. The ECM will put the engine into limp mode and stop current flowing to the throttle actuator. In this case, the opening angle of the throttle valve will be no more than 6 degrees.
  • Problems may arise with the control of fuel injection and ignition timing.
  • There may be a decrease in power as well as engine sensitivity to throttle opening.
  • The engine may idle at higher speeds, but the vehicle will not accelerate as expected.

Note : Symptoms of this error may vary depending on the make and model of your vehicle.

Features of the design of the on-board network of the VAZ 2107

Control of the fuel pump and electric cooling fan. Battery 12 volt. Cigarette lighter lamp.

Thanks to automatic optimization of the mixture composition, running a cold engine does not cause any difficulties.

When its contacts also close, power is supplied to the windings of the retractor.

In this case, you need to check its connection to the VAZ electrical wiring system. To correct these faults, you should replace the fuse or clean the contacts.

By means of high-voltage wires, high-voltage current is transmitted from the contacts of the distributor cap to the spark plugs.

License plate lights.

Tip: electrical wiring for injection modifications is sold separately. This can happen if the new fuse is designed for a significantly higher current. ELECTRICAL DIAGRAM VAZ 2107 PRED No. 11 LIGHTING AND POWER STOP LIGHT

How does a mechanic diagnose a P0122 code?

When diagnosing this error, the mechanic will do the following:

  • Reads all stored data and error codes using an OBD-II scanner to find out when and under what circumstances the P0122 error code appeared
  • Clear error codes from the computer's memory and test drive the vehicle to see if P0122 appears again
  • Visually inspect the electrical wires and connectors related to the throttle position sensor “A” for looseness or damage.
  • Compare the readings of throttle position sensors “A” and “B” using a scanner and, if necessary, replace the faulty sensor

It feels like two cylinders are failing while driving, but after turning the ignition key off on it starts to work normally

I had the same problem. Replaced the ignition unit. And I also changed the wires for the spark plugs. One wire almost fell off there. This is not visible visually, but when I pulled it, it tore without much effort. It helped...

hello dear, please give me a hint VAZ 21 07 inzhetor you pick up speed 90 fifth goes km 2 then there is a loss of power while driving, turn off the ignition key after a second, turn on the car again normally

While walking around a Chinese online store I came across this thing: ELM327 OBDII V1.5 CAN-BUS Bluetooth for $9. The device supports: ISO15765-4 (CAN) ISO14230-4 (KWP2000) ISO9141-2 J1850 VPW J1850 PWM Will this thing work on a VAZ 2107 2008?

Additional comments for troubleshooting P0122

  • Along with the P0122 code, there may also be other error codes related to the throttle position sensor that need to be investigated and resolved.
  • The most common cause of P0122 is a faulty throttle position sensor or a loose sensor connector.
  • As a rule, when errors related to the throttle position sensor appear, emergency mode is activated, and the symptoms of such errors are almost the same.

Why was the throttle valve equipped with a sensor?

The injector is equipped with flaps that change the angle of location, opening/closing the gap for the passage of air flow. Its volume should be enough to create a mixture with fuel in optimal proportions (ideally 14.7 parts of air per 1 part of gasoline). The mixture is then injected in portions into the engine cylinders, where it is burned.

In order to successfully regulate all stages of fuel supply (and this is a huge number of parameters), the electronic unit needs a reliable assistant who will collect and send truthful and timely information to the central authority.

Such functions are assigned to a miniature device - the PDZ sensor, the trouble-free operation of which determines the proper and efficient functioning of the engine.

The data from this sensor forms the basis for the calculation parameters for many electronic systems controlled by the ECU:

Replacement

In fact, changing this sensor is insanely easy. So don't rush to send your car to a service station. Everything can be done with your own hands, the quality will not suffer from this.

  1. To remove the throttle position sensor, you first need to find it.
  2. As we have already noted, the desired unit is located on the side of the throttle pipe on the throttle valve axis.
  3. Having found the element, pick up a shaped screwdriver.
  4. Using this simple tool, unscrew a couple of bolts that hold the device.
  5. Pay special attention to the gasket that is available under the old regulator. We do not recommend using it again; it is better to immediately buy a new one. Often the gasket is already included with the throttle sensor itself.
  6. After removing the old sensor, you can slightly clean the place where it is installed if there is dirt there.
  7. Next, a new sensor is installed along with a new foam gasket and the bolts are tightened.
  8. Try to tighten the fasteners as far as possible, otherwise the new throttle sensor will quickly lose its effectiveness. The work will have to be done again.
  9. There is no need to make any adjustments after replacement.
  10. The zero mark on the controller will determine that the throttle is completely closed.

Basic engine malfunctions

VAZ 2107 cars are equipped with three main types of power units with a displacement of 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7 liters. The second engine is equipped with a distributed injection system, which differs significantly from carburetor engines. During long-term operation, parts and components of the unit are subject to wear, which can cause the following malfunctions:

Diagnosis of injector or ECU malfunctions is carried out using a special tester, which is available at specialized service stations. Repair and restoration work on the engine is classified as complex and requires high qualifications and special skills.

Note: in cases where the computer displays error codes that indicate a break in the electrical wiring of a device, before troubleshooting the problem and purchasing spare parts, you must first see if the electrical wiring plug has come out of the connector of the corresponding device. Such incidents happened. Testers and computers are, of course, good, but nothing can replace the eyes of a car enthusiast. Good luck with the repair.
