Setting the sensitivity of the starline a91 alarm

In this article, auto electrician Alexey Molotov answers the question “How to disable the shock sensor on the Starline A91 from the key fob?”

When I bought the car, there was a Starline a91 alarm.

Everyone is happy with it - feedback up to 600 meters, auto start.

I actively use additional channels - I connected the autonomous heating of the Planar interior to one. When it’s cold, I first turn on the autostart of the engine from home, then the heating, after 5-10 minutes when I go out, there’s a good plus in the cabin, the windows have already thawed and sweated.

I set the mafon to block the signaling. Now I don’t turn it off, it turns itself off when I put it on the alarm and turns on itself when I remove it from the alarm, it’s very convenient and doesn’t drain the battery.

But the screen on the key fob was broken. I searched the Internet, and, oddly enough, I found a separate key fob right in Volgograd in Citylink for 950 rubles. I bought it, added it to the alarm according to the instructions, and it’s been working fine for three years now.

But about a year ago the alarm began to act up - it was unclear why it was triggered. Or rather, it showed that the door was open. I cleaned the door switches, which helped for a while. It's acting up again. I replaced one limit switch, where although I cleaned it, it didn’t always work. I bought a new one for 319 rubles - 0HE2166540C.

Stopped triggering the door in vain.

But after some time, the two-level shock sensor began to operate. I already saw from the camera that it was not the cat’s fault, but there were paw prints; the cat sometimes climbed onto the hood to bask. I tried to reposition the shock sensor, otherwise it was hanging on double-sided tape, but it helped for a while. Then it works again. I tried to adjust the sensitivity of the sensor by turning the knobs on it, but again it only helped for a while, the knobs were already set to minimum. Moreover, it happened that for a couple of days there was not a single false positive, but sometimes three times in an hour. Moreover, only the first level worked in vain.

Temporarily turned off the shock sensor on the key fob so as not to disturb it. Then I turned off the siren, but the feedback still works.

I searched the Internet for the reasons - poor fastening of the shock sensor itself, its reconfiguration or its replacement.

I tried all the methods again and realized that I needed to change the sensor itself. I opened the sensor, outwardly it is normal. I stuck it in place - the same thing.

I tried to disconnect the shock sensor from the alarm, I just pulled out the wiring, the false alarms disappeared. So it's still a sensor.

Setting the sensitivity of the Starline A93 shock sensor from the key fob

The security system has two zones where these elements are located. Correctly setting the shock sensors will prevent accidental alarm activation. To adjust the sensitivity level of Starline A93 you need.

  1. Remove the car from security mode.
  2. Long press the third key, and then perform another short click.
  3. After this, the shock sensor setting of the first zone will be activated. You can adjust the level using the second (more) or third (less) key on the Starline remote control.
  4. Having set the desired level, briefly click on key 3. Now the sensitivity settings for the shock sensor of the second area are available. The adjustment is carried out in the same way.

The Starline alarm also has the function of setting a tilt sensor. Its sensitivity can be set as follows:

  • We turn off the security mode, and then press the fourth button for a long time. Next, briefly hold this key again.
  • After entering the adjustment mode, set the sensitivity using buttons two (more) and three (less).

Faker

I also had this problem, how to cure the f... fucking sensor? Where is he anyway? If you don’t know, I’ll find it and destroy it myself, no sleep or rest for my tormented soul))) This game entertained me all night until I extracted the resource of this attraction from under the hood... But that’s not the point, the alarm system is needed so that I I slept peacefully, but here it seemed to be there, but it was better without it... On the one hand... And on the other, the car was unguarded...

For a note I will say this; turning off the alarm with the remote control helps for a few minutes, after which the car turns on the siren mode again, I decided to set the silent mode by pressing: long the first button on the remote control and after a short beep, short the second button, an icon appeared on the display but the problem was not solved, the car did not emit a siren signal, but the remote control was torn into pieces, telling me that the shock sensor had tripped. Then I noticed that the battery indicator on the remote control showed one bar, although I installed a new, expensive battery! I put the car on silent mode, and then took the battery out of the remote control, it seemed like there was silence, you could sleep peacefully! Hence the thought, maybe a weak signal from the remote control is causing the alarm to glitch like that? Let's figure it out and experiment

Errors when installing the shock sensor

On older generations of StarLine alarms, an external shock sensor was used, which had to be placed in strictly defined places in the car. If it was not installed correctly, it either could not be adjusted adequately, or it would work on its own.

A common mistake is gluing the sensor to the plastic panel from the inside. Even with high-quality preparation, using a branded primer and 3M adhesive tape, it comes unstuck and either falls onto the bottom panel or dangles from its wire.

There is also an equally stupid solution - attaching the sensor with plastic ties to a thick wiring harness (if the alarm is hidden in the area of the mounting block). The sensor is adjusted in a warm box, when the harness is softer and transmits vibration less well, and in winter the wires “dumb”, and the alarm goes off on its own with significantly less vibration than before.

When the shock sensor is rigidly installed on metal brackets rigidly connected to the engine shield, random activations sometimes occur due to the cooling exhaust manifold - short-term vibrations (“clicks”) are transmitted through the cushions to the engine shield, and from it to the bracket.

What to do if the sensor constantly triggers

The shock sensor can be adjusted many times, but it will still trigger for no reason. Such problems may not arise immediately, but after a certain amount of time. Of course, the first step is to reconfigure, but if it doesn’t help, then there are several other options:

  • Condensation may form and due to moisture ingress, the alarm system may not work correctly. To do this, you need to dry the shock sensor and try to insulate it so that it is protected from moisture;
  • Also, the sensor design often wears out or is subject to mechanical damage. In this case, it is necessary to replace worn or damaged parts;
  • If the sensor is triggered even when it is turned off, then the problem may be in its mounting. The standard mount is installed on a plastic base, which can become deformed over time. It is recommended to replace the plastic with a metal structure and tightly secure the Starline A91 shock sensor.

The simplest and most effective way to check for functionality is to set the minimum settings. If, when using the minimum settings, the sensor still continues to trigger, then it is recommended to replace the car alarm.

Setting the volume of the Starline A93 key fob

The car alarm has a sound changing function. If desired, you can choose a quieter mode of operation of the Starline key fob itself or make the siren volume louder or quieter. To do this, you need to go to the settings menu by long pressing key number four (at least five seconds).

Then you have access to adjusting the signal volume - there is a silent mode. You can choose the system operation options: siren or trill.

  • turn on the ignition, then go to settings and scroll to the Soun section;
  • press button 3 for a long time, and then press it again briefly, the key fob will show the current volume value (default – 2);
  • use keys 2 or 3 to change the parameter in the range from 1 to 9;
  • We also exit the menu by long and short pressing key 3.

How to set up a shock sensor for a Starline A91 alarm using a key fob

Starline A91 has piezoelectric elements with regulators that are adjusted using a screwdriver, which is used to rotate them clockwise. In order to correctly adjust the parameters, follow the explanations drawn on the body of the gadget - they indicate the direction of movement to decrease or increase sensitivity. Additionally, green and red LEDs help in determining the moment of operation.

Sensitivity can also be adjusted using key fobs that serve as control panels. Each of them has a display with a two-way communication unit. During autorun programming, additional settings are made. In particular, it is set to ignore a running motor or starter at the moment of rotation.

Full adjustment of the sensitivity of the Starline A91 system sensors looks like this:

  1. The first step is to turn off the car's ignition and security mode.
  2. Next, click on the button adjacent to the one on which the round icon is drawn.
  3. The success of the actions taken will be indicated by two activations of the alarm siren and triple flashing of the headlights.
  4. In turn, the key fob emits a melodic signal and its indicator displays an indication of what level of the sensor warning zone is already programmed: by default it is 10.
  5. Now the car owner can independently specify the desired parameter in the range from 0 to 14. To do this, he uses buttons with triangular icons on the remote control.
  6. To adjust the level of anxiety in the car, hold down the same key as in the second point until a sound signal appears. After which they press it a second time, but for a short time.
  7. If the action is successful, the already set sensitivity value appears on the display, the default value being five. It is adjusted in the same way as the warning zone.
  8. Saving the settings occurs by holding down the signal and pressing the same key again as above.

The success of the manipulation will be indicated by three activations of the siren and three headlight signals. The preset melody will also sound on the remote control.

How to turn on the shock sensor

The shock sensors of the Starline A91 and A93 alarms are turned on after their installation. When all sensors are connected, the car owner needs to put the car into security mode, disarm it and turn security mode back on.

When the security mode is turned on, without disabling it, you can activate the device from the key fob. To do this, you need to hold down the corresponding button until the signal sounds. It is also possible to use a smartphone application for this purpose.

How to increase sensitivity

The sensitivity of the anti-theft system is adjusted using the above-mentioned regulators, which are turned with a screwdriver all the way counterclockwise. As for adjusting the warning level, for this the corrector is turned by a third.

You can adjust the sensitivity only when the security mode is turned off. The car door must be open. After each turn, the force on the body at which the sensor is triggered is checked. To do this, light blows are applied to the body cover or its central pillar.

The correct operation of the reconfigured sensors is checked when the security mode is turned on. After activating it, wait up to a minute for the sensor to work with the new settings.

As for the increase in the alarm level, this follows the same procedure. It is important to remember that the alarm level value cannot be less than the warning zone. Otherwise, the sensors will not work correctly.

How to reduce sensitivity

The sensitivity of the sensors can be reduced. This is done using the key fob with the ignition off. First of all, press the entry button to the settings menu five times. After this, turn the key in the lock and reactivate the ignition. Next, find buttons with triangular icons and use them to select the section for adjusting additional channels. It is lettered as "SF". In the latter, select the item responsible for the operation of the engine and hold down the key located next to the one marked with a round icon until a sound signal appears. After this, the button is released and pressed again for a short time. As a result, you should be able to select functions - use the key marked with a triangular icon to select the third one. The sensitivity mode value is set with the security activation button. The car owner can either completely turn off the sensors by setting the value to zero, or temporarily reduce it only while the power plant is operating. Test runs and warm-ups of the latter are used to determine whether the adjusted level is suitable.

Saving memory parameters is carried out through the same button presses as when entering the settings menu for additional channels. After this, turn off the ignition. The success of the manipulation is indicated by three flashes of headlights and a triple sound of a siren. At this time, the programmed value appears on the remote control, after which it goes into the standard time display mode.

How to disable the Starline A91 shock sensor

The need for shutdown arises from the increased frequency of false alarms due to external factors.

The most common such factor is remote engine start - vibrations from it are perceived by the installation as an attempt to penetrate the vehicle interior. Therefore, it is most important to temporarily disable the sensor at such moments.

The Starline A91 shock sensor is turned off by double pressing the button on the key fob, indicated by the closed lock icon. In response, the external light alarm of the machine will flash twice, and the remote control will emit a melodic sound. The DAT1 parameter will be displayed on the display of the latter, indicating that the warning sensitivity level has been temporarily turned off.

To turn off the alarm level, you must press the same key twice again. The headlights and siren will respond with a triple signal, indicating the success of the manipulations. The DATE2 parameter appears on the display.

The mechanical method of turning off the sensor involves turning the sensitivity regulator with a screwdriver to the minimum level. You can also set the level to zero in the setup menu. In this case, it is strictly not recommended to disconnect the sensor by disconnecting the wires.

Setting the time on the key fob

You can complete this task by following a simple procedure.

  1. You need to enter the Starline settings mode by long pressing the fourth key on the key fob. After this, one melodic signal and two short ones will sound, and the clock values will begin to blink.
  2. Use keys 2 or 3 to set the clock parameter up or down.
  3. After finishing, press button 4, which will put the Starline key fob into minute setting mode. The display is carried out in a similar way.
  4. Another press of the fourth button takes you to the alarm settings. The installation principle is carried out in the same way.
  5. The programming mode exits automatically after 8 seconds.

How to set up a Starline alarm if it goes off on its own

The most common problem that owners of an alarm system from Starline with a shock sensor encounter is a false alarm. It occurs even in devices that have been installed recently. As a result, the sensor goes off on its own and the alarm screams, although no one is nearby.

To fix the problem, the first thing you need to do is figure out what the warning signs were for the appearance of a false signal. Did this happen at a time when other people's cars were passing nearby? Or during certain weather events.

The time of day when such incidents occur plays a role. And also how often they happen. In some cases, false alarms occurred when the car's handbrake was engaged. To accurately determine the reasons, all details are important.

Another problem is a violation of the design of the sensor or module associated with external damage or wear. Replacing or repairing broken parts will help fix the problem. The signal is also triggered due to the interception of radio waves when the module and sensor loops are close to each other. To eliminate it, just separate them.

If the sensor is constantly disconnected, then the reason may lie in improper mounting. For the latter, I use plastic, which is deformed and destroyed due to impacts or other external influences. The plastic mount can be replaced with a metal one.

The best way to test the serviceability of newly installed sensors is to test at minimum sensitivity. If a reaction is observed even with minimal settings, then the system will probably need to be replaced.

Basic alarm faults

Most often, motorists have to deal with malfunctions that arise during the operation of the Starline A 91 car alarm:

  1. When you press the key fob control buttons, the alarm does not go off (you need to replace the battery, replace the key fob).
  2. A false alarm occurs (the settings of the alarm sensitivity unit need to be calibrated).
  3. When you turn on the car door locking mode, a malfunction occurs (the reason may be a malfunction in the alarm system or the locking mechanism).

Setting up autorun

The Starline A93 alarm system has the option of customizable automatic engine start:

  • enter the programming menu by long pressing button 3, a signal should sound, and then click on the button again;
  • Use buttons 2 or 3 to select the required function;
  • key 1 helps you select the desired value; you can set the duration of the starter operation, engine warm-up and its time;
  • We return to the menu by pressing the third button for a long time, and then again briefly.

How to reduce sensitivity

Setting up an external shock sensor

The external shock sensor of the StarLine Twage and Dialog alarm families has two separate controls - compact trimming resistors with heads for a thin flat-head screwdriver.

There is a control LED next to each resistor - if the shock sensor is easy to see during installation, this makes setup easier. The upper trimmer is used to set a warning, the lower one sets the alarm level. If you need to configure it, it’s easier to do this:

1. Turn both trimmers counterclockwise until they stop, setting the sensitivity to minimum. 2. Set the warning sensitivity to a third, close the doors and arm the car. 3. After waiting at least 15 seconds for the alarm to activate the shock sensor, tap the windshield with your knuckles. The blows are sharp, but not strong. 4. If the warning level is sufficient, it will work. Otherwise, disarm the car, add a little sensitivity, arm the car and repeat step 3. 5. Having configured the warning level, set the alarm level to a little less than that specified by the warning setting. 6. Having armed the car and waited 15 seconds, we deliver a sharp blow to the edge of the windshield with our fist. If only a warning is triggered, add alarm sensitivity.

Setting up the built-in shock sensor

In modern StarLine alarms, shock and tilt sensors do not have any controls. Setup is carried out using a key fob or from a mobile application, which is much more convenient for the user. To configure sensors from the key fob:

  • disarm the car;
  • on the main key fob, press button 3 until a beep sounds, then press it again briefly;
  • a hammer icon and a number from 1 to 10 will appear on the screen, indicating the current warning level setting level;
  • use buttons 2 and 3 to decrease or increase sensitivity;
  • press button 3 again long and short;
  • the screen will display the alarm level setting, which can be changed using buttons 2 and 3. In this case, the number on the screen should be less than that set for the warning level;
  • Long and short press button 3 again to save the settings.

It's even easier to configure the shock sensor via a mobile application. Go to the Settings screen for the selected device and select Shock and Tilt Sensors. On the screen that opens, set the desired levels using the sliders and click the “Save” button.

False alarms caused by the sound of a passing car or thunder are a consequence of incorrect settings of the Starline shock sensor. Inside the device there is a sensitive element that senses vibrations. An additional electronic unit allows you to change the sensitivity of the element depending on operating conditions.

Setting up the Starline A93 key fob after removing the battery

Sometimes the alarm starts to malfunction. If the reason is a deep discharge of the battery, then the battery should be replaced. However, there may be cases when the Starline car alarm will not work correctly even after installing a new part. Then you should reset to factory settings:

  • turn off the ignition;
  • press the settings button 9 times;
  • turn on the ignition, nine siren signals will indicate the success of the procedure;
  • Let's see a second reset for the second table, now you need to press the settings key ten times;
  • after finishing, click on the service button and listen to one siren signal;
  • press K1 of the key fob, the machine will make a sound, indicating a return to standard settings;
  • turn off the ignition, the car will blink three times with the emergency lights, indicating a successful procedure.

Working principle and functions

The A91 car alarm system includes a special piezoelectric sensor, which is attached to the metal panels of the vehicle body. The A93 model began to use a 3-axis accelerometer integrated into the transceiver unit. The sensor detects shocks that occur when attempting to enter the vehicle interior or dismantle parts (for example, wheels). The sensor reacts to external disturbances and sends a signal that triggers the alarm.

The user can independently configure the sensor on the Starline A91 or A93 alarm system by adjusting the warning and alarm level threshold. On early alarm models, adjustment is made by rotating a mechanical regulator; on later modifications (with an accelerometer), electronic adjustment was introduced.

Where is

Before setting up the Starline A93 sensitivity sensor, it is important to understand where it is located. Specialists installing such systems install devices in different places:

  • Under the front panel.

  • At the base of the steering column (near the pedals).

These are the places most often recommended by the Starline manufacturer, so service station specialists follow the given rules. In this case, the devices respond more accurately to mechanical influences, and setting up the Starline A 93 shock sensor is easier. The installation location may depend on the technology used, as well as the model of the security system.

Setting up a new Starline A93 alarm key fob

When purchasing a device, you will need to link it to the car. You need to know where the Valet service button is located. After that:

  • turn off the ignition, disarm the car, and then press the Valet key seven times;
  • turn on the ignition, the car will give seven light and sound signals, confirming entry into the binding mode;
  • press buttons 1 and 2 on the key fob;
  • the Starline machine and remote control will emit a signal;
  • When the ignition is turned off, the car will blink its headlights three times, confirming successful binding.

After this, this Starline keychain will be fully functional.

Signal sensors

To accurately trigger the Starline A 91 alarm, it is necessary to fine-tune the trigger modes of the shock sensor in the event of an unauthorized attempt to gain access to the car by unauthorized persons.

Modern alarm systems are equipped with 3 types of sensors installed on cars:

  • a shock sensor, which is triggered by vibration of the car body when a set threshold value is exceeded;
  • movement sensor, gives a signal when there is an attempt to steal or evacuate a car;
  • volume sensor, is triggered when an attempt is made to enter the vehicle interior.

Correct configuration of sensors ensures reliable vehicle security and eliminates false alarms.

Connecting the key fob

For the Starline A 91 alarm to work correctly, it is necessary to connect the key fob to the vehicle’s electronic security system.

Connection is made in the following sequence:

  1. To carry out the registration process, you need to find the “Valet” button (in the fuse box, under the steering wheel or glove compartment) and press it 7 times to activate the system with the engine off.
  2. Turn on the ignition. The siren should sound 7 times if all operations are completed correctly.
  3. To do this, we activate the key fob at the same time, press buttons 2 and 3, as a result of which one siren signal should sound, signaling that the key fob is connected.
  4. We connect the second key fob in the same sequence.

The correct operation of the Starline alarm is influenced by 3 main reasons;

  • adjusting sensor sensitivity;
  • installation location;
  • correct fastening of sensors and signal unit to the car body.

The sensitivity of the sensors can be adjusted using the control unit.

How to disable

Disabling the shock sensor is used to reduce the number of false alarms caused by external factors. At the moment of remote or automatic start of the power unit, the security complex turns off the sensor, since vibration from a running engine is perceived by the sensor as an attempt to penetrate the vehicle interior. When setting the operating parameters of additional channels, it is possible to set a parameter that temporarily disables the shock sensitivity sensor.

To disable the shock sensor on Starline A91 or A93, you will need to press the remote control button, indicated by the closed lock icon, twice. The car will respond with a double signal from the external light alarm, the key fob will give a melodic signal, and the text DAT1 will be displayed on the display, indicating a temporary disabling of the warning sensitivity level. When you press the button twice again, triple signals are sent by lamps and a buzzer, and then the alarm level is turned off. A text like DATE2 appears on the display.

The car owner can turn off the sensor by turning the sensitivity control to the minimum position. On the A93 complex, you need to set the zero value through the setup menu. It is not recommended to disconnect the shock sensor on the Starline A91 by disconnecting the cable harness from the processor unit.

To protect the vehicle, many car owners use the Starline A91 impact sensor, which protects against the possibility of theft and damage to the vehicle.

4. Indication on the key fob display when the sensor is triggered

When the StarLine A91 shock sensor is triggered, an alarm is activated, which is characterized by cycles with a certain number of sound signals and size flashes. The duration of one cycle may vary depending on what triggered the system.

The key fob also produces sound signals, and a corresponding indication appears on its LCD screen. From it you can determine what exactly the alarm reacted to.

In the case of a shock sensor, there are 2 response options:

  • Shock sensor level 1 (warning). Duration of 1 alarm cycle: 3 sound and 6 light signals. With a constant signal from the sensor, the number of cycles is 1, with multiple activations - 8.
  • Level 2 sensor (alarm). Duration of 1 cycle: 20 seconds of sound and light signals. The number of cycles is the same as for level 1.

When any of the levels is triggered, the “SH - 1” icon appears on the screen of the Starline A91 key fob, and next to it there is an image of a hammer.
