New means of protecting cars from theft are constantly emerging. The cost of modern vehicles is high, so owners try to install high-quality security systems, for example, multilock on automatic transmissions. The device blocks the gearbox, making it impossible to drive in the event of unauthorized entry into the car.
Appearance of the multilock on an automatic transmission.
What is multilock
Such automatic transmission locks were first invented by an Israeli company that develops anti-theft devices. The name of the organization was “Mul-T-Lock.” Her name served as the name of a machine blocker that prevents criminals from stealing a car.
Attention! At the very beginning of the development of this company, the multi-lock automatic transmissions produced did not have an aesthetic appearance. These were whole barn locks that were hung on the hood or attached to the selector lever using a V-shaped bracket. Multiloki automatic transmissions were distinguished by their brutal appearance and heavy weight.
Nowadays, manufactured multi-lock automatic transmissions have decreased in size and have become almost invisible. They do not spoil the interior of the car, thanks to tuning and camouflage. Other people cannot see when the driver is securing the lock.
Now each multilock for automatic transmissions is produced only for a specific modification of the vehicle. There are varieties of multilocks for automatic transmissions. For example, pin ones are secured by means of a pin, which the driver inserts into the prepared hole in the selector handle and uses a key to block the movement of the rocker. You can unlock it using a key.

Types and principles of operation
There are different types of multilock systems. Any of these devices works according to its own principle and protects the vehicle from theft.
Types of automatic transmission mul-t-lock:
- arc blockers for automatic machines. These are the simplest types of multilocks. They do not completely protect the car from theft, since they only block the control lever, but not the rocker itself. Such automatic transmission multilocks are installed by those who do not know the structure of the machine and want to independently set up an anti-theft system. Another advantage of such blocks is their low cost;
- mechanical multilocks: pin and without pin;
- multilocks with “Interactive” cylinder;
- universal multilocks, electronic, engine compartment multilocks.
This protection system does not require lubrication. Therefore, both in the wet season and in the dry, the blocker will work properly. All keys and locks are made of durable alloys.
Multilock element name | Metal or alloy from which components are made | What gives |
Multilock key and lock pins | Nickel and silver alloy | Resistance to core wear, excellent key sliding in the keyhole |
Multiloc cylinder | Beryllium bronze | Resistance to acids, drilling |
Next we will talk about each type of multiloc automatic transmission.
Pin and pinless multilock gearboxes
The simplest mule-t-locks are mechanical multilock mechanisms. The principle of pin mechanisms was touched upon in the block above. The anti-theft system is activated by the key and unlocked in the same way.

Who invented and invented the world's first automatic transmission
A pinless device differs from the first one in that it does not have a pin that must be constantly inserted and removed from the hole. The pinless multilock is permanently attached to the automatic transmission: it is built into it. Locking and unlocking occurs by turning the key.
Attention! The pins for multilocks are made of high-strength steel. It cannot be melted, cut or exposed to chemicals.
Multiloc equipped with an interactive cylinder
Mutilock "Interactive" consists of a cylinder and a movable pin in the core. A special card is sold along with the multilock, which prevents the creation of a duplicate without it. Therefore, it is not possible to open such multilocks at all.
And you can buy a key only in specialized workshops or manufacturing companies.
Positive aspects of the multilock automatic transmission "Interactive":
- increased protection system;
- low cost of multilock for automatic transmission;
- resistance to chemical influences;
- inability to create a duplicate multilock key.
Universal multilocs
Universal anti-theft multilocks are installed on the boxes of any car. They cannot be installed on those that provide a different protection system or have a different design.
There are also individual locks. They are produced for a special modification of the car. And they cannot be installed on any other one.
Engine compartments also belong to the universal type of multilock automatic transmission. They are installed and block automatic transmission shifting under the hood. Experts recommend installing such multilocks together with hood locks. Since everything will be under it, and inside the cabin there is only a hole for the key.

How to operate an automatic transmission
If a car thief gets into the car, he won't be able to do anything. But compared to the arc mechanism of the anti-theft system, this one has a complex installation. Therefore, it is better to install it at specialized service stations. You can install it yourself only when the owner of the car is an experienced mechanic.

Location of the larvae
Multilocks are often installed on gearboxes. On an automatic transmission, the locking device interrupts the movement of the rocker in the “P” – “park” position. If the installation is carried out on a manual transmission, then the reverse gear is blocked.
If an attacker overcomes all the protections of the vehicle's anti-theft system, he will not be able to move the car or drive forward if it happens with a manual transmission.
Unlocking occurs only with the help of a key, which is located by the owner of the car.
Multilocks can also be found on the following elements of the car:
- steering wheel;
- hood.
How to choose a multilock yourself
If the car owner is just a novice driver, then to select an anti-theft lock, it is better to invite an expert in this matter or take the car to a service station. Of course, the car owner will not be allowed to watch other experienced mechanics do this at the service center.
If you have at least some knowledge regarding the mechanical part of the vehicle, you can buy and install the blocker yourself. To choose the right locking mechanism, you need to decide on the following parameters:
- arc multilock automatic transmission. Suitable for those who know nothing about the structure of a car. It will not protect the car from theft 100%, because its arches can be easily cut off;
- pinned or without pin. Suitable for those who have at least once disassembled an automatic transmission. Almost one hundred percent guarantee of protection;
- electronic and other locks, which are supplied for sale together with a special card. It is better to install it in a specialized center.

The next paragraph will discuss the installation of a built-in multiloc automatic transmission.
Multilock on automatic transmission - ease of use
Both when using the built-in multilock and when installing a pin model, the driver will not encounter any difficulties while operating the car. In the first case, it will be enough for him to insert the key into the lock of the blocker and turn it - he can drive. In the second case, it will be necessary to turn the key and pull out the locking pin, which can be placed in the back seat during the trip or placed in a holder specially installed for it. In our company, you can install a multilock on an automatic transmission not only at a low price, but also with quality guarantees.
For a multilock with an automatic transmission, the price depends primarily on its type, but we can say with complete confidence that this mechanical device is more than affordable for any motorist. Remember, additional safety measures have never harmed anyone, so it is better to prevent the possibility of an unpleasant situation with your car than to later deal with the consequences of your own omissions.
Self-installation of multiloc
To install the built-in multilock on an automatic transmission with your own hands, you will need:
- flat and Phillips screwdrivers - 1 pc. each;
- ratchet;
- wrench;
- screwdriver;
- cutter with a diameter of 22 mm and 40 mm;
- needle pattern.
When the tools are prepared, installation can begin. First, initial work is carried out to disassemble the selector. They consist of the following actions of the car owner:
- Disassemble the center console. Carefully remove the trim and disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Disassemble the selector knob by unscrewing it counterclockwise. Remove the left side trim.
- Unscrew the bolt on the left plate and similarly on the right. Take them off.
- Disassemble the panel in the center. Remove the rear trim and unscrew the bolts from the rear seat.
- Pull out the panel.
Now the car owner will have full access to the automatic transmission. After dismantling the selector panel, you can begin installing the multilock.
- Set the gear shifter to “Parking”.
- Unscrew the right screws that secure the automatic transmission and install the washers.
- Use a cutter to cut a hole for the locking device. Place the multilock in the drilled hole. Check how it works.
- Remove the shear screw heads if the bollard is functioning normally.
- Place the needle template on the larva.
- Install the panel and press down where the lock is installed.
- Take a six-millimeter drill and drill a hole in the place where it is marked. It must match the lock cylinder.
- Make a hole using a cutter with a diameter of 40 mm and install the cuff.
- Assemble the front and back panels. Change the nut securing the rod to the one that is included with the multilock.
- Check how the multilock and selector lever work. After this, remove the caps from all the nuts.
- Reinstall all removed components in exactly the reverse order.

Thus, the anti-theft device will be installed in the car and protect it from car thieves.
Steering wheel lock
If you are not yet ready to fork out money for a service, but still want to install additional protection on your car, then you can install a mechanical lock on the steering wheel. In this case, self-installation is quite possible.
Steering shaft lock
The essence of such protection is that a protective rod is inserted into a special coupling with a hole installed on the steering shaft. In this case, it will be impossible to turn the steering wheel in any direction. You can only unlock the car with a special set of keys.
Installing the steering lock yourself
First of all, you need to lock the steering wheel. To do this, we use an anti-theft device in the ignition switch. Install the clutch on the steering shaft. This way the entire system will be isolated. It won't be easy for outsiders to see.
Coupling installation
Important! When installing and adjusting the clutch, make sure that it does not interfere with the free operation of the steering wheel.
After installation is completed, try inserting the lock and locking the steering wheel. Check the keys and their functionality. If problems occur, try loosening or tightening the coupling screws. Also, for more comfortable use, you can attach a special plastic holder for the stopper.
