Many people want to install somewhat unusual door handles on their VAZ 2110, but it turns out that not everything is so simple. Opinions about them are not clear; finding suitable kits is quite difficult.
But we decided not to give up and consider the most common options for handles and study their characteristics. We will also tell you how to install them yourself.
Stylish, neat, comfortable
Removal
1. Remove the trim from the rear door.
2. Remove the plastic film from the back door.
3. Disconnect the outer handle rod from the lock lever.
4. Using a 10 mm socket wrench with an extension, through the holes in the inner door panel, unscrew the two nuts securing the outer door handle.
5. Remove the outer door handle along with the rod.
Dismantling
To install something new, you first need to dismantle something old. In our case, we are talking about old door handles, which will be replaced by direct grip handles. They're euros.
Dismantling works
To work you will need the following set of tools:
- 8 mm socket head;
- Driver or ratchet;
- Extension;
- Flathead screwdriver.
That's it, you can proceed directly to the dismantling procedure.
- We get to the internal structure. To do this, the door trim is dismantled.
- We go from the inside of the door and unscrew the two nuts located there. They can be unscrewed through a special technological hole.
- Through a similar technological hole, you need to use a flat screwdriver to disconnect the rod from your old handle. Just insert a screwdriver between them and turn slightly clockwise. This will relieve cravings. It is more difficult to install it back, so try your best.
- Now the outer handle can be removed from its seat, since nothing else holds it there.
- After this, be sure to clean the seating area of the old element and clean the surfaces from possible rust.

Video on replacing the handle:
Welcome! Door handles are the thing with the help of which the rod twitches and the door opens, the handle itself is made only for convenience and the most important mechanism that opens the door is not the handle, but the rod that goes from it to the lock, the handles are selected for each car individually and therefore It is not always possible to find the same handles on different models (for example, on the VAZ 2110 and VAZ 2114), these handles belong to the decorative elements of the body and therefore some people even replace them with others (with the so-called Euro handles), but there is one minus The Euro handles are that sometimes they break if you pull them hard and the door opens more difficult than with the original trauma-safe handles that were installed from the factory on the tenth family.
General principles of lock operation and reasons for blocking doors
Since the handles are located at a great distance from the lock, they are connected to it using rigid wire rods or cables. The parts to which these pull rods or cables fit are often made of plastic, so they break or wear out easily. Accordingly, if the handle itself breaks, to open the door in an emergency, you need to use a cable or rod to operate the lock. If the tongue on the side of the lock breaks off, you need to move what is left of it.
Design of a standard car door lock
The second reason why the door is locked is that the lock is faulty. It could be:
- jamming of elements in the lock;
- wedge of the flag (soldier) locking the lock;
- central locking system failure.
Most often, drivers become hostages of the door locking function to prevent children from accidentally opening them. When the latch is moved, it slams shut and to open it, you need a working outer handle, which is broken...
Opening a door with a broken lock is much more difficult than when the inside and outside door handles are broken at the same time. However, this does not happen often and in any of these cases it is necessary to remove the door card for further work with the mechanism. Therefore, first we will look at how you can open the door or how to remove the trim when the door is closed, and then how to unlock the lock.
How to open a locked door if the card cannot be removed (there is no access to the screws)
Removing the card with difficult access to the bottom screws
Often, access to the lower or side fastenings to remove the door trim is prevented by a threshold or seat. This applies to cars where the door card is additionally held on by several screws from below, near the threshold.
If access to them from the passenger compartment is maintained, you can get there by moving the seat back and forth and unscrewing the screws with the shortest screwdriver. If the rear door handle is broken and the sofa overlaps several fastening elements of the card, it will have to be folded back or removed. It may also be necessary to bend or remove the seal.
Partial card removal to access the lock
On some cars, the lower fastening screws of the door card, when closed, are blocked by the threshold and cannot be reached, even if you remove the door seal from the passenger compartment. Then you need to try to tear it off the door at least partially.
If you cannot remove the card completely, you will have to act extremely carefully, trying to bend the casing only from the side of the lock. You need:
- Unscrew all accessible fasteners on top of the card and unclip the clips.
- Move the door card from above to create a gap between it and the door.
- Penetrate (with your hand or a foreign object) into the gap to the cables/rods and act on the unlocking rod, cable or tongue.
After the lock opens, it will be possible to normally disassemble everything completely without the risk of breaking it and gain access to the internal parts of the door for repair or replacement.
Removing the lock striker
How to open a locked front door on a Chinese car
In most cases, the reciprocal U-shaped lock bracket is installed on the rack in the direction of travel with the upper part (“shelf” of the letter U forward). But on some models this bracket is perpendicular (the “shelf” looks out to the side) and its mountings can be accessed from the passenger compartment by removing the B-pillar trim. If your car is one of these, you can:
- Remove the upholstery of the rack on which the bracket is installed.
- Through the hole in the rack, get to the screws that secure the bracket.
- Drill out the screws or force them out, for example using a broken bolt extractor.
- Once the screws are no longer holding the bracket, the door will open and you can gain access for normal repairs.
The disadvantage of this method is that it is suitable for a very small number of car models. If the bracket is installed longitudinally in the direction of travel, then even if there is a hole in the rack, you will have to somehow saw off or knock down with a chisel the cage nuts that hold the screws.
Detailed instructions: repairing and replacing locks on the doors of a VAZ 2110 car
The front-wheel drive sedan was produced by the Volzhsky Automobile Plant for 12 years. The last copy rolled off the assembly line in 2007. The model belongs to the budget segment, valued by drivers for its unpretentiousness to fuel, relatively good assembly, and maintainability.
The VAZ 2110 door lock is not a frequent consumable; its average service life is 3 years. Considering that the last VAZ 2110 was produced 12 years ago, standard parts need partial repair or complete replacement.
Unlocking the lock
If the lock is blocked due to water ingress in winter, there are several ways to solve the problem:
- Use a lock defroster. The substance is otherwise called “liquid key”. The product is available in the form of a spray.
- Take matches and a lighter. Heat the key a little in the fire and insert it into the lock. Shake slightly to the sides. The main thing is not to overdo it, so as not to break the VAZ lock.
- Spray the keyhole with alcohol or an alcohol-containing substance. For example, cologne or eau de toilette. Pure alcohol actively generates heat and dissolves ice.
- Make a heating pad from a bottle of warm water or a bag of hot sand. Place the makeshift heater against the lock. Keep the heating pad on for a couple of minutes.
- Pour some windshield washer fluid inside the lock. Remember, the washer contains isopropyl alcohol, which has an aggressive effect on metal.
- Take a cocktail straw and insert it into the lock hole. Breathe inside. Warm air can melt ice.
- Try applying silicone grease around the perimeter of the rubber seal. In some cases, the car door freezes in this very place.
- Direct the hose containing the exhaust gas from the pipe of another vehicle into the lock.
Refinement of the base and mechanisms
One of the main disadvantages of a door lock is that it makes a lot of noise when closing. And the culprits of this shortcoming are the outer part and the locking bar, which engages with it when closing. The reason for the loud sound lies in the fact that all the parts that come into contact with each other are metal.
The best way out is to purchase a silent lock, in which the parts in contact with each other are made of plastic. You can modify the mechanism yourself, as a result the door will close even quieter and softer.
The door handle rod of the VAZ 2110 flies off
Maybe some traction has gone off?
Quite possibly. You need to remove the trim and take a look.
The handle on the front door, passenger side, has stopped working! Those. you pull it, and it behaves as if the door is simply locked, everything opens normally from the inside! What could be the matter? Maybe some traction has gone off?
And the rivet that connects the handle itself (black) to some kind of rod inside has come off (on the outside). If you have the same thing, you can determine by comparing the two handles when opening and looking from below. I’m too lazy to change the handle yet, I just tied it off with a plastic clamp for wiring.
The trim is removed, the door opening handle is attached to the rod and secured with plastic crap. This crap is gone. You buy a new one and install it.
Should I just buy it new? Can't I put the old one back on?
Z.Y. In general, thank you all for the answers! I'll work on it this weekend!

Repair of interior door handle VAZ 2110
Hi all.
At one “wonderful” moment, the left inner door handle became capricious and stopped returning to its rightful place, and at the same time began to stick out unattractively. I put off this repair for a long time, because I thought that in order to replace it, it was necessary to remove the casing, and I really don’t like this procedure, because the fastenings of the pistons on the casing are already soldered. Each time the skins are removed, time has to be spent restoring them. But it turned out that the handle can be easily changed without removing the trim. It is enough to unscrew the two screws of the door handle and the three screws holding the hook itself.
Then pull the hook yourself, remove the elastic band, pull the hook off the rod, and voila the pen is in my hands.
An autopsy showed that the spring on the axis of the door handle lever had broken.
It was not so easy to disassemble the handle; the cotter pin was rolled. Having no tools at hand, I had to struggle a little with pliers.
Since there is nothing to replace this spring with, I tried to loosen one coil and bend the spring as needed, but nothing good came of it.
In the end, I decided that it was easier to buy a new pen, especially since it costs only 100 rubles.
But this was not without problems, firstly, it turned out that this is a scarce product and is not available in every store. Where I finally found it, it was significantly different from mine. Not only is the new pen a slightly different shape, color and texture, but it also doesn’t work well.
With the new handle, the force of opening the door increased; it clearly did not tighten the rod as it should. How the quality of spare parts has fluctuated. Most likely, the new handle does not work well because the hole for the pull rod is noticeably larger than on the original one. I don’t understand why this was done, maybe there are dozens with thicker rods, or maybe it was just done “unhooked”.
Since the handle worked poorly, and I couldn’t find a new, original one anywhere, it was decided to disassemble the new handle and pour the spring into the old one.
After struggling a little more with the cotter pin, the spring was removed.
The spring fell into place without any problems. The repaired handle began to work perfectly. The door opens with a slight movement of the finger, the handle returns to its place.

Installation of silent locks
There are two ways to install a silent locking block - by first removing the door card and without dismantling the cladding.
Work to install a silent lock on the front door of a car without dismantling the door card is carried out as follows:
Now all that remains is to check how silently the new mechanism works. To do this, slam the door several times, opening and closing it.
Adjusting the lock
After 3-4 years of operation, drivers note a defect: one of the doors of the VAZ 2110 car begins to close poorly. For example, it is loose when the part sticks out when closed. It also happens the other way around: when you try to slam the door hard, it doesn’t close. In such cases, adjust the latch. To work you will need good lighting and special tools:
Work order:
During work, it is necessary to check the overall geometry of the body. If the misalignment of the doors occurs due to violation of the geometry parameters, then repair of the locking mechanisms will have to be carried out constantly.
After the lock is adjusted, the bolts are tightened as tightly as possible.
Principle of operation
The door lock of the VAZ 2110 car consists of two parts - mechanical and electronic (not in all trim levels). The mechanical part includes three types of working schemes:
The main task of the locking mechanism circuit is to secure the door. The design uses a locking pawl and a turning latch. When the driver's door is closed, the turn signal latch moves behind the lock holder bracket. The pawl has two recesses - the main one and the additional one. With their help, the locking pawl holds the position of the rotary latch. When the door is completely closed, the pawl lever falls into the main recess. If the door is not closed completely, when the door is slammed, the rotary pawl falls into an additional recess and the door still remains closed, but a larger opening is visually visible. An additional recess is made for the safety of the driver and passengers.
The lever mechanism ensures the door opens. The force from the door handles is transmitted through the corresponding rods to the lever mechanism. It acts on the locking pawl. The rotary latch is released, rotated, and the mechanism opens. After the door is opened, the locking mechanism returns to its original position due to the action of the return spring of the lever mechanism.
The locking mechanism is designed to stop the opening mechanism. The cylinder is connected to the locking mechanism with a special rod and, using the ignition key, it locks the door.
What will be needed for repairs
If the outside lock stops opening, go straight to the store. You will need to purchase:
- several new plastic tips suitable for VAZ;
- set of screwdrivers - one flat, Phillips;
- a set of plastic rivets that secure the casing.
All parts are sold at an automotive supply store. It is better to buy spare parts with a reserve, several sets. The parts are inexpensive. They can also come in handy if the door stops opening not only from the inside, but also from the outside. Take the sheathing fasteners just in case, since the sheet may have to be removed.
