Not long ago we talked about the trunk volume of the Lada Vesta SV Cross, which turned out to be very convenient and roomy. But even such a spacious trunk is not enough for everyone. When you need to transport some long cargo, but it physically won’t fit into the cabin, then the Lada Vesta SV Cross roof rack comes to the rescue. Although the new product of the domestic automobile industry has recently appeared on sale, accessories for it appeared almost immediately. You can already easily buy an armrest, floor mats and trunk mats, mud flaps and much more.

Types of racks

You can install one of 3 types of roof rack on the Lada Vesta roof:

  1. Autobox – they are great for transporting goods for various purposes;
  2. Rack for transporting bicycles and skis - this type can also be attached to the fifth door (if you have a Lada Vesta station wagon);
  3. Boat transport structure.

If necessary, you can always transport a bicycle on the roof of a Lada Vesta.

Disadvantages of the trunk of Lada Vesta (sedan)

Many Vesta owners complain in the forums about the design of the double floor of the spare tire niche that was not thought out by the factory, leaving a lot of free space.

Another common complaint is that the height of the sill formed by the rear panel of the body makes loading and unloading heavy cargo very difficult.

They mention the traditional problem with leaking seals, due to which water accumulates in the spare tire niche after high-pressure washing. Work on eliminating seal leaks on your own is a separate genre of garage witchcraft; for some owners it lasts for months.

There is a separate question about the modification with Vesta CNG gas equipment, the trunk of which has been greatly reduced due to the installed 90-liter cylinder. From the rear panel to the protective casing of the cylinder there is only about 50 cm, and the opportunity to increase space by folding the seat back is blocked.

Therefore, the most that the owners of the gas Vesta can count on is space for a couple of bags from the supermarket. They have to think about alternative options for transporting cargo.

At the moment, such a device for the Lada Vesta is far from the primitive designs that were used previously. It includes 2 arcs located transversely relative to each other, as well as a set of special adapters and stops necessary for fixing the racks to the car.

In order to prevent damage to paintwork, metal adapters have a special material made on the basis of vinyl acetate. The advantage of such adapters is that they do not “tan” in the cold, and also do not soften in the heat.

Regarding the load capacity, products in the lower price range can withstand up to 50 kg of cargo, and in the middle and high price range - from 50 to 100 kg. But in this case, it is necessary to rely on the characteristics of the Lada Vesta, so as not to overload the roof.

Initially, it was assumed that the station wagon would be produced in Togliatti - contrary to the fact that the sedan is made in Izhevsk. Later, this strange logistics concept was revised: station wagons will also be made at (former Izh-Avto). Body dies arrived in Izhevsk only in winter, so the assembly line was prepared in a short time.

Serial production should begin in July. If there are no failures, this year a total of about nine thousand cars will be made - approximately equal parts of both modifications. They will go on sale in the fall.

The trunk is fixed to a smooth roof - it is equipped with special kits (hooks) that are attached to the doorway. A similar trunk needs to be selected specifically for the Lada Vesta, since it is focused on a specific model.

What about competitors?

The cargo compartments of the Datsuns have a good flat floor and a low loading height, but the arches here protrude too much, and the width of the opening leaves much to be desired. The situation is even worse with the Solaris' trunk, which (with the smallest volume among sedans) has one of the largest wheel arches, which forced the developers to create a complex sidewall geometry.

However, this is partly offset by a flat floor, neat hinges, a large opening, and a low loading height. The Rio platform brother offers the same set of pros and cons, but its useful volume is noticeably larger.

In addition to the above-mentioned advantages of competitors' trunks, Rapid also offers a convenient door lid, the opening of which creates the largest loading opening in height. The downside is that it is slightly higher than the other participants in the comparison.

In turn, Logan’s “bins” are close in layout to Vesta and have a similar “disease” in the form of massive hinges. In addition, Logan has a less convenient loading opening, as well as more prominent wheel arches.

Autobox

An excellent option if you need to increase the useful loading volume of the Lada Vesta. The volume of a standard car box is 350 l, 430 l or 500 l, but you can also buy a 700-liter box.

With such a car box, Vesta will be not only functional, but also stylish.

Such devices are characterized by high strength indicators subject to mechanical stress. In addition, it does not need to be repaired, and over time its performance remains the same. The products are equipped with a central lock, handles and fastening straps.

The Vesta Cross sedan and station wagon of the same name have the same trunk volume, which is 480 liters. But this is only the top part of the trunk. There are also special compartments under the raised floor, which add another 95 liters to the volume. Thus, it turns out that the total trunk volume of the Lada Vesta Cross is 575 liters, which is a very good indicator. Of course, for most people, trunk volume is not the main criterion when choosing a car. BUT! There are also those who choose a car for trips to the country, travel, or with the expectation that a large number of things will be periodically transported in the trunk. For the latter, the Vesta station wagon will be an excellent option.

For those for whom the standard luggage compartment volume is not enough, it is possible to fold the rear seats, thereby almost doubling the luggage compartment volume to an impressive 875 liters. The raised trunk floor and folded rear seatbacks form a flat surface, allowing you to transport long and oversized items. However, be especially careful with this option. One has only to look at the crash test of the Lada Vesta Cross, and it immediately becomes clear that in the event of an accident, all the things left behind will fly around the cabin and can cause harm to the driver and passengers. No, I don’t want to say that Vesta is not the safest car. On the contrary, 4 safety stars are worth a lot. But no one is safe from road accidents.

In this case, there are a lot of options - the Internet, the car market, etc. However, experts recommend going to a specialized store, since the price for this device is considerable. In addition, safety on the road also depends on its reliability - there have already been a lot of cases when luggage that fell from the roof fell under the wheels of motorcyclists.

The choice on the market is huge, and you can even find the flagship models of the Swedish Thule on domestic Ladas. There are not many brands that are actually available. Popular domestic ones:

  • Europart volume from 300 to 420 liters, prices from 10 to 16 thousand rubles;
  • LUX (Lux) 175 and 370 l, about 15-16 thousand rubles;
  • TERRA DRIVE up to 480 l, about 20 thousand rubles;
  • Yuago from Tolyatti, from 390 to 580 l, 10-20 thousand rubles.

Let us remind you that the trunk volume of a Russian car is 480 liters for both a sedan and a station wagon. In Renault Logan, the volume of this department reaches 510, and in Rio - 500 liters. Solaris will allow you to load only 470 liters of luggage, although both of these models are created on the same platform. The leaders in trunk capacity are the Skoda Rapid and Datsun, which hold 530 liters.

If we compare the features of the luggage compartments, then the Datsuns also have a good and flat floor, and the loading height is optimal. But the arches in Datsuns protrude too much, and the opening width is not enough to load particularly large items.

In this regard, the Solaris trunk causes the most inconvenience: the wheel arches here are the largest, which does not have the best effect on the geometry of the sidewalls. These shortcomings are somewhat concealed due to neat hinges, a flat floor, low loading height and a large opening. Rio, created on the same site as Solaris, has the same advantages and disadvantages, but the usable luggage compartment volume of this car is larger.

Next to these hard workers, Vesta SW, fragrant with freshness, is a girl from the catwalk. When Steve Mattin says that it is impossible to name the sole author of the design, he is clearly being modest. Back in Sweden, he cut his teeth on Volvo cargo-passenger “suitcases” and showed the world the fast-moving Volvo V60. You also imagine a Volvo when you look at the Vesta station wagon? There are three types of arches on which the trunk will be installed directly: rectangular, aerodynamic and wing-shaped. In most cases, they differ in appearance, method of execution and fastening. Any of them will be suitable for the Lada Vesta St, so the choice is yours.

How much?

And now about the most important thing. When we were preparing this article for publication, prices were still being formed. A few months ago, Nicolas More mentioned that the station wagon would be a little more expensive than 800 thousand rubles.

Since the technical features of the SW station wagon are no different from the sedan (in our illustrations it is a car with a 1.8 engine), I would venture to assume that it will be sold for 620–800 thousand rubles, depending on the power unit and level of equipment. The upper limit on SW Cross can rise to 850 thousand rubles.
