Many people want to improve their front optics, because with good light, driving is much more comfortable and safer for you, as long as your light does not interfere with oncoming drivers. There are many ways to do this. But some people want to get a unique and unusual look by tuning their headlights. To do this, for example, they install additional dimensions in the turn signals or completely transfer them there, creating the so-called American style.
The American style is that the lights are constantly on, their bulbs are in the turn signals and most often they are orange.
American cars on the VAZ 2114 are a very common practice, with them the car really looks more interesting, besides, in the dark, any additional light will not hurt. In poor visibility, a car with such tuning is more noticeable on the road. But you need to understand that such a change can mislead other road users and sometimes cause accidents.
The yellow lights merge with the turn signals, and some road users may misjudge the situation. Therefore, it is better to use white dimensions, then the orange turn signals will stand out clearly.
The attention of traffic police officers to a car with such modification is increased, and they may stop you to check your documents more often.
When making an American VAZ 2114, everything must be done within the law; there are clear restrictions on any changes to the front optics. For example, you definitely cannot install red lamps, reflectors and any other devices with inappropriate color and operating mode. For such violations, a fine of 2,500 rubles was imposed.
Why put American cars on a VAZ 2114 and what it looks like
We are all familiar with the “American style” style with side lights installed in the turn signals - a popular element of tuning the VAZ 2114. Carrying out such a modernization is not at all difficult, so the owners of the Samara family modify the turn indicators themselves.
However, not everything is so simple when transferring dimensions to direction indicators. This relates to a change in the design of the car, for which Article 12.4 Part 1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Russia provides for penalties. This is especially true when the color of the side lights is different from white. Of course, the subjective opinion of the inspector is not enough to impose a fine. Color discrepancies must be proven using a spectrometer. But in practice, it is quite difficult to appeal a decision, because courts often make decisions solely on the basis of the words of the Ministry of Internal Affairs officers who compiled the protocol. Before you make the dimensions in the turn signals of the VAZ 2114, pay attention to one more point: yellow dimensions are less noticeable and can mislead other drivers, so such tuning is not entirely safe.
An alternative solution for turning signal lights using a double-filament lamp
In my opinion, this is one of the easiest ways to complement the side lights with the glow of the turn signal lights or move them to the latter. To do this, you will need a double-filament lamp, which should be installed instead of the standard one, and a corresponding socket. Instead of using a socket, you can use soldering, simply soldering wires to the terminals of the lamp, but in this case it will be difficult to change it.

The wires going to the turn signal should be connected to the more powerful lamp filaments, and the side light wires to the less powerful ones. You can connect the latter in parallel, then the direction indicators will complement the standard side lights, or simply switch the wires of the “dimensions” to the lamps in the “turn signals”. The last option is the “American” tuning, in which the side lights and direction indicators are combined.
Dimensions in turn signals using a relay
You can set the front turn lamps to work in headlight mode without losing their function. To do this, install a pair of relays that will break the power supply circuit for the lamps when the turn signal is turned on. Thus, when you turn on the headlights, the turn signal lamps will simply light up, and if you turn on the turn signal, they will blink in antiphase with the rear turns (when voltage is applied, the rear lamps light up, and the front lamps go out due to the opening of the relay contacts). This solution has one problem - the turn lamps will not light up if the side lights are turned off. To solve the problem, you need to add a couple more relays that will switch the power to the turn signal lamps to the standard circuit when the side lights turn off.
The disadvantage of this method is that it reduces the reliability of light signals due to an increase in the number of contact groups in the power circuit. To increase reliability and reduce the number of wires and contacts, you can use semiconductor circuits for turning on turn lamps. It is very difficult to assemble such a circuit on your own without special knowledge and experience. Therefore, it is better to purchase a new one or ask for help from a specialist. Now you know how to make dimensions in the turn signals of a VAZ 2114. Whether you put this knowledge into practice and whether you experience difficulties when passing a technical inspection or when meeting with the traffic police is up to you.
Types of jobs
You can modify turn signals on your car in the following ways:
- supplement the illuminated turn signals with dimensions by moving them from the headlights;
- insert additional side lamps into the front optics;
- change the color of the side lamps to yellow or white;
- use flexible DRLs with a turn signal function.
If the dimensions are yellow, then the light from the turn signals will merge with it, if the color is white, then the turn signals will stand out against the background of the main dimensions
How to install American ones through a button on a VAZ 2114
I had a dilemma about the installations of American women from the moment I bought the car, I liked the look with them, but I didn’t really want to drive with them on a regular basis. And I thought for a long time about what to do and the decision was made to connect them to a separate button.
Fortunately, on the 14 there are 2 plugs on the dashboard:
And it was decided to install a button in place of one of the plugs. You can install absolutely any button to your taste.
My choice fell on the air conditioner button:

Then you will also need wires: 2 wires of approximately 2 meters each (to draw a permanent plus to the button and a second wire to draw from the button to the plus of the cartridge) and 1 wire of approximately 1.3 meters to parallel the right and left cartridges with each other.
Also, the most important thing in this whole scheme is the 2-pin sockets and, accordingly, the light bulbs for them. I bought the first cartridges I came across:

Of course, they are not particularly suitable, but I secured them using the “collective farm” method. Well, it’s not particularly scary, since you can’t see it there anyway.
I secured it with electrical tape so that the cartridge would hold tightly
I bought orange 2-pin bulbs:

Because my turn signals are orange. And plus, with orange lamps they will be brighter. Once all the components are in place, we will begin the installation. First, remove the turn signals from the car and replace the original socket with a 2-pin one.
The 2-pin socket has two positive (+) wires and one negative (-) wire.
I pulled them through the headlight range control:
For our American ones we only need one positive wire.
We connect the second plus and minus to the native terminal of the turn signal:
in the photo the right one is the plus of the turn signal, and the left is the plus of the American one that goes into the interior on the button
Then we parallel the plus on the right side with the plus on the left side:
After paralleling them, pull the wire to the button into the interior to this contact:

On blue we will connect the plus from the American ones, that is, not constant. And on red there is a constant plus from the dimensions.
Then we take this wire on the block (this is the dimensional wire):

In principle, nothing complicated. The main thing is to carefully twist and isolate everything. After the work under the hood is completed, let's move into the interior and connect our button to the end. On the button we just need to connect the backlight of the button itself and the minus.

I connected it to the white wire of the rear window heating button illumination.

In principle, this can be taken from any adjacent button. I took all this from the heated rear window button. Nothing complicated. I just exposed the winding on the wire and screwed the wires from our American button to it.
I also forgot to write that I installed an additional 7.5A fuse.
I took a regular fuse through a wire:
I embedded the fuse in the wire that goes from the button to the plus of the cartridge. I embedded it in the area of the battery so that it would not be particularly noticeable. Everything was carefully insulated with electrical tape. Do not judge strictly.

Checking technical fault
The specified procedure is carried out every 2-3 months, regardless of the technical condition of the VAZ turn signal
First of all, attention is drawn to power wire No. 3, which is red. It comes from the positive terminal of the battery
The VAZ turn signals receive the electrical energy required for operation only when the ignition system is turned on. The procedure for performing a check is as follows:
- turn off the ignition system;
- press the right push-button switch located on the dashboard just above the heating level control;
- both turn signals and the red signal light must light up at the same time;
- turn on and check the correct operation of alarm 2112;
- check the alarm system with the ignition off and on;
- make sure that the light on the dashboard and the turn signals themselves are blinking in the same rhythm.
If any of the above actions could not be completed, this indicates a technical malfunction. It is recommended not to delay in resolving the problem. Continued operation of the 2110 with a malfunctioning turning system increases the likelihood of an accident.
A loose connection or broken light bulb is a common cause of the dashboard light blinking too frequently. You can verify this visually. If the VAZ turn signal works in normal mode, then the problem is hidden precisely in the broken contact of the 2 elements. In second place in terms of frequency of occurrence is a faulty relay.
A sign of this problem is the prolonged or absence of burning of the VAZ-2110 turn lamps. The problem is caused by one of the following reasons:
- burnout or physical damage to the wire coming from terminal No. 3;
- short circuit in the area between the battery and the push-button switch;
- physical damage to the connection or connector located behind the 2111 instrument panel;
- switch damage.
This also includes a short circuit in the relay.
