What oil is better to fill in the automatic transmission of Lada Granta 16 valves

The first LADA Granta was released in 2011. Considering the sales volumes, the development fully justified the title of “people's car.” Initially, the car assumed exclusively mechanical control, but a year later automatic options appeared. In the “Norma” and “Lux” trim levels, 4-speed automatic transmissions are also installed.

Lada with automatic transmission is distinguished by:

  • Excellent maneuverability.
  • Ease of management.
  • Easy to use.

The disadvantages of such models include:

  • Higher cost.
  • High demands on transmission fluids.

However, these features should hardly be considered disadvantages - as in any other car, comfort will require a slightly larger initial investment, and careful attitude and regular service (changing the automatic transmission and engine oil in the Lada Granta, checking filters, lubricating locks, etc. .) will be the key to long-term operation without complaints.

AvtoVAZ designers did not invent a new unit and decided to use JF414E automatic transmissions for Grants, developed by the Japanese company Jatco specifically for vehicles with 1.6 liter engines. In addition to the Lada, these transmissions are used today in cars produced by Nissan - March and Almera.

At the same time, the Lada Granta was the first model with this gearbox, and Japanese engineers created it according to the technical specifications of the Tolyatti plant. Far Eastern specialists took into account the peculiarities of domestic roads, the Russian climate and the design features of the cars themselves. That is why the JF414E automatic transmission received positive reviews from both car owners and professional experts, primarily independent ones.

Features of Lada Granta with automatic transmission

The time-tested Jatco unit, used on Japanese vehicles since 1989, was taken as the basis for the new box. The new transmission has become much more efficient, easier to use, more compact and lighter. All JF414E for Lada are produced in the land of the rising sun in Shizuoka Prefecture.

The main characteristics of this automatic transmission are contained in the name:

J is the first letter of the manufacturer (Jatco). F – front-wheel drive. 4 - number of steps. 14 – development numbering. E – switching type (electronic).

The Japanese automatic transmission has overheating protection, which is activated at temperatures above 114°C. In addition, the box is equipped with an electronic control unit connected to a similar engine unit that responds to incoming signals.

Despite the reliability of the box and additional protective functions, the Grants automatic transmission requires regular maintenance, namely monitoring the condition and volume of lubricant, and replacing it if necessary.

Frequency of oil changes in automatic transmission Lada Granta

Manufacturers (and this applies not only to AvtoVAZ products) often indicate that automatic transmissions do not require fluid replacement throughout their entire service life. In practice, this approach leads to a deterioration in control response, and over time can cause the unit to break down.

The warranty period is 8 years or 120,000 km. mileage, which may occur much earlier if the vehicle is used intensively.

Experts recommend carrying out diagnostics at a mileage of 60,000 km. or after 5 years. This will significantly extend the service life and avoid unnecessary problems. In addition, prevention is necessary for any deviations in the operation of the box, for example, jamming and any other deviations from the original operation.

Possible difficulties with changing oils

Some Lada Granta owners may have difficulty purchasing Tatneft gear oil. But if it is not sold in a given region, you can safely switch to the chemistry of any other of the previously mentioned manufacturers. For automatic transmissions, it is not advisable to purchase NISSAN Matic D if it is impossible to buy NISSAN Matic Fluid S. In such a situation, ATF NISSAN Fluid Matic J is suitable.

Possible difficulties with changing oils

In addition, the problem of counterfeit auto chemicals has not yet been resolved in our country. Such transmission fluids are especially dangerous for a robot or automatic machine. Therefore, you should buy chemicals from trusted places. In this case, you can check with the seller for the availability of documentation for the product confirming its authenticity.

Possible difficulties with this procedure also include the eternal struggle of some owners with howling in the manual transmission. There is no point in solving this problem by pouring “mineral water” or oil thicker than recommended. On the contrary, it is worth pouring good quality synthetic fluid. This will help reduce the noise a little. But there is no need to add additives and apply other tips from the Internet without the recommendation of a specialist. It has been proven that these sounds have virtually no effect on the service life of the unit. They basically only cause acoustic discomfort to the car owner.

Sometimes partially replacing the fluid in a machine at a technical center is not cheap. But this procedure can be performed independently if you have a garage and some experience.

What kind of oil to fill in the automatic transmission of Lada Granta

Genuine EJ-1 or ENEOS ECO liquid is poured into it. AvtoVAZ does not insist on using only these brands, but provided that the product you choose meets the Dexron III standard.

Often, owners of domestic cars choose the simplest analogs possible, focusing not on quality, but on low cost. Subsequently, the choice of a questionable fluid often becomes the reason for the failure of the box, the price of which is at least one-fourth of the total price of the car.

Is it possible to say that the only chance to protect yourself from unnecessary serious expenses is to purchase an expensive product? Not at all. An excellent option for automatic transmission oil for Lada Granta is Fluid Dexron III D, produced in Germany, the main differences of which are:

  • High resistance to aging.
  • Fluidity at low temperatures (down to -51°C).
  • The cost is lower than that of other European manufacturers.

By purchasing Fluid Dexron III D from Hessol, you will receive a product that not only meets the requirements of the standard, but also in many ways exceeds the norms. This means you can extend the life of the box for an even longer period.

What's the result?

As you can see, the automatic transmission, despite the assurances of the manufacturers, also needs a partial or complete oil change. In this case, special fluids for automatic transmissions (ATF) are used. A complete high-quality replacement can only be done in a car service center, since in a regular garage there is no special equipment that completely removes oil from the box (displacement method).

The choice of oil for automatic transmission Lada Granta is quite simple. You can look for analogues, but there is not much point, since replacement is not carried out often, so it is not worth saving and risking the box. In other words, in order to understand what kind of fluid to fill in the Lada Granta automatic transmission, you should study the manual separately, and then purchase the recommended fluids.

How to check and change the oil in a Lada Granta automatic transmission yourself

To determine the transmission fluid level and its condition, you need to perform the following sequence of actions:

  • Warm up the box to 70°C. To do this you will need to drive 10-15 minutes.
  • Without turning off the engine, use the dipstick to determine the volume of fluid.
  • Drop the product onto gauze or white cloth and inspect the resulting stain.

The mark should be located midway between the upper and lower marks on the top of the dipstick, which is marked as “hot”. Diagnostics can also be carried out with the engine turned off and the box temperature being about 20°C, then the mark will be located at the bottom of the dipstick - the “cool” sector. The most accurate data will be obtained with two tests - the first “hot” and then the “cold”.

When assessing the quality of the composition, you should first of all pay attention to its uniformity and the absence of foreign particles. Darkening indicates wear of the fluid, however, according to the manufacturers, this situation is not critical. If you want your car to last more than 8 years and be able to travel significantly more than 120,000 km, watch out for changes in the color of the transmission. If the quality of the fluid deviates from the norm, it is necessary to completely or partially replace it.

An incomplete update is a universal solution for the vast majority of situations:

  • Reduced level.
  • Darkening.
  • Exceeding mileage 75,000 km.

A complete oil change in the Lada Granta automatic transmission will be required when:

  • The liquid turned black and opaque.
  • The mileage exceeded the warranty level (120,000 km).

Both procedures can be carried out independently, provided that you have basic car maintenance skills and also have the standard tools that will be needed when carrying out the work (tubes, keys, funnels, etc.).

A partial oil change in the Grants automatic transmission will require 1.5-2 liters, and a complete oil change - 5.1 liters. In practice, the volumes required for incomplete renewal sometimes increase and amount to about 3 or even 4 liters. Some experts believe that the update is far from the best solution and its cost-effectiveness is far-fetched.

Partial is more time-consuming, since the mixing of old and new volumes will occur only after you have driven at least 100 km. After this, you will need to perform a new diagnosis and another fill if the test results do not show significant changes before and after the work.

Conclusion

Having considered the suitable options, you can decide on the best oil for the Lada Granta automatic transmission. It is better to use a quality product, which does not have to be expensive and original. This can be seen judging by the presence on the market of quite good analogues from the companies Mobil, Castrol, ZIC, ExxonMobil, Lukoil, etc.

Lada Kalina cars of the second group are equipped with mechanical or. Regardless of the type of design, gearboxes for LADA Kalina are characterized by high quality and, when used correctly, do not cause trouble for drivers. Automobile manufacturers declare that there is no need for mandatory oil changes in manual transmissions and automatic transmissions during the operating period. But, as practice shows, such a need exists. A full or Lada Granta has to be carried out after a mileage of 75,000 km.

Changing the automatic transmission oil with a Grant-automatic

To finally make sure that the replacement fluid you have selected is suitable for your car, read the list of standards and brands of cars for which it is suitable. Labeling on packages is not a marketing ploy, and all data provided by the manufacturer is confirmed by expert testing using special standardized methods.

In addition, you can compare the stated characteristics with the requirements of Dexron III for a number of key values.

  • Kinematic viscosity at 40°C: 35.3 mm2/s.
  • Kinematic viscosity at 100° C: 7.5 mm2/s
  • Density at 15°: 847.
  • Pour point: - 50°C

Fluid Dexron III D oil will have the following values:

  • Kinematic viscosity at 40°C: 36.0 mm2/s.
  • Kinematic viscosity at 100° C: 7.4 mm2/s
  • Density at 15°: 860.
  • Pour point: - 51°C

Do not think that domestic cars are less sensitive to quality of service than imported ones. Regardless of the country of manufacture, engine type and number of additional functions, only timely diagnostics and prevention will allow you to extend the life of your vehicle and its individual components. Change the oil in the Lada Granta automatic transmission once every 50,000 - 60,000 km. mileage will save you from serious expenses for repairs.

Do you think that imported goods, especially those produced at an enterprise in Germany, have too high a price? Contact official dealers of the German company Hessol to purchase an original, high-quality product at the best price, which will differ significantly from the cost of oils from other manufacturers.

Good day everyone! In this article you will find detailed information about changing the oil in the Lada Granta automatic transmission .

The oil in the Lada Granta automatic transmission is designed for the entire service life of the vehicle. According to the manufacturer, the oil in the gearbox should be changed only during repairs. During normal operation there is no need to change the oil. But you understand perfectly well that any liquid loses its properties over time. This is due to natural processes. There are temperature changes, deposits formed during the wear of the box, and many other factors. Therefore, it is better to change the oil in the Granta automatic transmission. Moreover, this is a fairly simple job that even a beginner can do. So, let's begin.

Theory - watch the video!

4-speed transverse automatic transmission of the “mini” class for front-wheel drive - JF414 developed by the Japanese Jatco for cars with engines up to 1.6 liters.

It was the JF414 automatic that AvtoVAZ chose to install on the Lada Granta.

In addition to the Lada Granta, the JF414E has been installed on Nissan Almerias and Marches with engines up to 1.6 liters since 2013. In addition, it can be found on our rare Ad Van. This transmission is designed as a budget and reliable option for “long-lasting” cars. Competitor - Aisin AW60-40. Jatko classification means - JF414: J - Jatco, F - (Forward) front-wheel drive, 4 - number of stages, 14 - serial number of modification. E - electronic shift control.

More details about the machine

When choosing an automatic machine for the Grant, Tolyatti engineers faced the following conditions: - the box had to fit into the engine compartment of the Lada and, of course, had to be very simple and very reliable.

Another contender for the Lada hood can be considered practically the only competitor: Aisinovsky AW60-40. But Aisin Warner is considered uncompromising on prices and feels confident enough in the market to give special discounts to VAZ. Therefore, the JF414 variant from Ott Jatko turned out to be more interesting.

There were, of course, hypothetical versions of American boxes, such as 4F27E, but they were completely uncompetitive in many respects, including political ones.

Among the German boxes for Lada, ZF 4HP14 would be suitable. But the German gearbox, while highly reliable, is quite expensive, and ZF itself is not very active in the market for mini and micro class machines. Therefore, the marriage of Granta and Jatko seems a completely natural choice.

The only drawback of the Jatkov box is the narrow market for this class of machines. With the advent of CVTs, fewer and fewer manufacturers are installing reliable but expensive gearboxes on micro- and mini-class cars, and are increasingly choosing a cheaper and less resourceful CVT. In addition to VAZ, this box was installed on Nissan March for some time, but soon they switched to CVTs, leaving VAZ as the only consumer of this machine.

The JF414E uses all the latest electronics to control the valve body and torque converter, including linear (PWM) electric control solenoids to control the shift hydraulics with minimal power disruption.

In general, the JF414 gearbox was designed by Jatko according to VAZ’s technical specifications in order to be “indestructible” and outlast the car itself. A typical case of reinsurance, when a viral myth about the “fragility of the machine” is widespread among buyers.

The next generations of automatic transmissions for this class of car will have a choice between used Dzhatkov CVTs and European DSGs with a dry clutch (AMT), which are cheaper and live a brighter (for acceleration and fines), but short life.

Changing the oil and filter

The first machine maintenance is an oil change.
Although the oil is considered non-replaceable, (about burning oil) with frequent overloads of the machine, the oil soon becomes dirty and opaque and requires replacement.
JF414 itself is very unpretentious to oil and allows the use of not only the original Matic-S (EJ-1 ATF), but also non-original analogues such as Dexron VI. Although automatic transmission electricians say that the settings of the JF414 solenoids and valves are sensitive to the type of oil. The oil is checked (for quality and quantity) with a dipstick at operating temperature and topped up through the same hole. Some technicians check the oil level and quality using the overflow tube by unscrewing the pan plug. The oil is changed through several partial changes. An oil change should be done with the help of specialists who have experience in automatic transmission repair or who have studied the oil change process in detail. It has its own important features.

Filter JF414 - metal open with metal mesh - 327010. Our technicians rarely change such a filter during the first oil change; washing and cleaning the filter solves the main problems. The oil is changed first after 80-100 tkm of mileage, depending on the loads during operation and, as a result, on the degree of contamination of the oil, but usually by this time the oil still retains “working” transparency.

Masters install on older cars with worn iron in series with the coarse filter - external fine filter - 100019. The main filter fits into the cooling hose from the outside of the box and access to it for inspection and replacement can be made as easy as possible.

The main magnetic filter helps keep the oil clean and slows down wear on components. This is recommended for all older machines that have a standard filter with a metal mesh. Read more here.

The design of the hardware of this box was simplified as much as possible according to the tourist principle: “nothing superfluous,” but in the first year of running in, the first “childhood diseases” of this machine appeared:

In the first years, craftsmen complained about the needle bearing between the pump hub and the High package - #327227, which, due to design flaws, was clamped to the point of complete destruction. Bearing size may vary in thickness - (41.5 x 59 x 3.58). This problem was successfully solved during the first years of testing.

The Jatko design assumes a large margin of safety, but VAZ electronics engineers did not tighten the computer settings, prohibiting the driver from using the gas pedal to kill the box. Therefore, the driver can drive up to 200-400 tkm without major repairs, or he can kill the clutches with a kickdown by the end of the warranty period. Overhaul does not mean the end of the resource at all; the box itself is traditionally indestructible for Jatko and can travel up to a million km if simple rules of operation and repair are observed.

Overhauls of this machine are usually associated with overhaul, cleaning and replacement of consumables - gaskets, seals and clutches. Gasket and seal kits (below) - 327002.

Do-it-yourself instructions for changing the oil in an automatic transmission Lada Granta

Before replacing, you must first select the required oil in the automatic transmission. We have already told you what kind of oil goes into the Lada Granta automatic transmission. For a partial replacement we will need about 1 liter of transmission fluid. Although the total volume of oil in the Lada Granta box is 5.1 liters.

What is required for a partial replacement?

1. Transmission oil in the required volume 2. Container for collecting used oil 3. Funnel with extension hose 4. Lint-free cloth 5. 19″ wrench 6. 5″ hexagon

Stages of work completion

If the vehicle has engine protection installed, it should be removed for convenience before performing work.

1. We drive the car onto a pit or lift. 2. Warm up the engine to operating temperature. We wait until the cooling fan works and turn off the engine.

1 — Automatic transmission housing 2 — Drain plug 3 — Overflow plug

3. Using a 19″ wrench, unscrew the drain plug and move it to the side (2). 4. Use a 5″ hexagon to unscrew the overflow plug and drain the used oil (3) into the prepared container. 5. When the oil is drained, replace the overflow and drain plugs, after wiping them with a napkin. 6. After this, for convenience, you should remove the air filter housing to gain access to the automatic transmission dipstick. 7. We take out the automatic transmission probe and insert a pre-prepared hose with a funnel into the probe hole. Fill the box with new oil. It is necessary to fill in the same amount as was drained. 8. Start the engine and engage each gear with a slight delay. 9. Turn off the engine and check the oil level in the box using a dipstick. The level should be between the Min and Max marks. The test should be carried out on a heated box.

This completes the oil change in the Lada Granta automatic transmission. Agree, isn’t it difficult? Now let's talk about checking the oil level.

Important tips when choosing gear oil

LADA GRANTA is available with different types of transmission - 5-speed manual and robotic gearboxes and 4-speed hydromechanical automatic transmission. Depending on the type of transmission, the oil is also selected.

The same transmission oil is used for the manual and robotic gearboxes that are installed on Lada Granta cars. This choice is explained by the fact that the operating principles of these boxes are similar to each other. The oil in them does not overheat and is not subjected to excessive pressure. Its main function is to reduce the mechanical load on the box parts, protect them from rust and remove heat.

Checking the oil level in the Lada Granta automatic transmission

The test should be done on a heated box. The oil in the automatic transmission warms up a little later than the engine warms up. Therefore, you should warm up the engine to operating temperature and wait until the cooling system fan turns on once or twice. Do not forget that checking the oil level in the box should only be done on a flat surface.

1. Move the automatic transmission lever from position “P” to position “1”. 2. With a slight delay, move the lever from position “1” to “2”. A similar procedure should be carried out for all modes of operation of the box, i.e. “1” -> “2” -> “D” -> “N” -> “R” -> “P”. Before each switching, a delay of 5-10 seconds should be made. The procedure should be performed with the engine running. Once the lever is back in the “P” position, the engine should be turned off. 3. Move the air filter housing aside and pull out the dipstick.

4. The dipstick must be wiped and inserted into place. Then immediately pull it out. The oil level should be between the Minimum and Maximum marks (this area is marked with the letter A in the figure below).

On this. Now you know how to change the oil in a Lada Granta automatic transmission yourself and check the fluid level in the box.

Recently, significant changes have occurred in the Russian automotive industry. The AvtoVAZ company managed to equip its cars with an automatic transmission. One of the first models to have an automatic transmission was the Lada Granta. It received technical characteristics similar to international standards.

Grant was equipped with a Yatko machine gun. The box turned out to be very resistant to difficult operating environments. Since last year, the machine began to be produced only in a luxury configuration. An inexpensive “robot” was installed on other Grants. Visually, the Lada Granta with automatic transmission has no differences from its relative with manual transmission. But its fuel consumption is higher.

Design features of the Jatco gearbox

We are talking about an automatic transmission installed on Lada cars. The automatic transmission design has a dipstick that allows you to control the oil level. But the control is carried out when the engine is running, and it will be impossible to get to the dipstick without removing the filter.

This dipstick is even more convenient than on a manual transmission

Consider that instead of a dipstick, only a plug is installed. In fact, this is the case for many - if you remove the filter, you can see the “plug” and not the dipstick.

Checking the oil level in the automatic transmission on Lada Granta

Let's look at how to check the oil level in the automatic transmission of Lada Grants, following the regulations:

    You need to start the engine, press the brake, go through all the gears, engage gear “P”;

Switching the automatic transmission selector to P mode (parking)

Both inscriptions are applied to different sides of the probe. But to get to it, you need to remove the engine air filter housing.

Features of automatic transmission on Grant

The car can accelerate to 100 km in 13.3 seconds. The highest speed it can reach is 173 km/h. For urban conditions and the highway, such characteristics are quite sufficient.

The main control component is the lever. It was made in the classic version for cars twenty years ago. The slides, in which each gear was switched in a certain sequence, often provoked difficulties due to driver errors during gear changes.

How often do you need to replace the lubricant in an automatic transmission on a Lada Granta?

According to the manufacturer, the automatic transmission of this car does not require an oil change for the entire period of use of the car. However, any experienced car owner is unlikely to believe such a statement. After all, it is known that any lubricant can change its properties over time. This is caused by natural processes. After all, during use, a car lubricant has to withstand temperature changes, as well as the influence of other factors. So periodic oil changes in the automatic transmission of the Lada Grant are still required. Moreover, it is not difficult to perform.

The resource of the box of this car is approximately 150 thousand km. It is recommended to change the oil every 75 km. Once every 150 km it is worth checking the oil level. The automatic transmission is unpretentious in terms of oil composition. But it is still better to use original oil, because the solenoid settings are sensitive to the composition of the oil.

Analogs for automatic transmission JF414E

At the same time, do not forget that Nissan Matic-S ATF substitutes also have this approval, which can also be considered for purchase. They often cost less, but provide the same high level of protection for automatic transmission components.

Average price: 1000 rubles

Comment: special low-viscosity fluid for high-performance automatic transmissions of the new generation, created on the basis of synthetic base oils and a high-quality additive package

Preparing to replace the lubricant

Open the hood and disconnect the battery. After this, remove the filter housing. To do this, disconnect the mass air flow sensor connector and the canister valve connector. The power cable tie will also need to be disconnected from the case.

Disconnect the filter from the corrugation. First loosen the clamp and then remove the corrugation. After this, remove the filter housing from the supports. It is better to start with a support, which is located near the center. Disconnect the supply pipe from the housing and remove the box. Before starting the engine, it will need to be mounted.

After this, you can begin to change the lubricant.

Incomplete or partial replacement

  1. Remove the transmission dipstick.
  2. Assemble a structure from tubes with a diameter of 8 mm. Place your hand in the hole to add oil.
  3. Start draining the waste liquid into a specially prepared container.
  4. Be sure to measure the volume of drained oil.
  5. Take a funnel with a tube. Add oil.
  6. Put the dipstick back. Reassemble the remaining components.

After the operations, the new oil in the gearbox will be mixed with the old one. But this will happen only after at least 200 km. Partial replacement can be done again.

As already mentioned, there is nothing wrong with mixing automatic transmission oils. But it’s better not to carry out such experiments with the engine.

Complete replacement

The lubricant in the automatic transmission on Grant can be changed in full. At the bottom of the crankcase there is a plug 2. Below it there is a tube 3, which can be unscrewed using a key set to “6”.

  1. Unscrew the plug. You will drain approximately 250 ml of liquid. Place the prepared container, unscrew the tube and drain the remaining oil.
  2. Screw on the tube 3.
  3. Pour 5 liters of oil through the hole in the dipstick. Excess liquid will come out through the hole at the bottom.
  4. Reinstall the air filter and dipstick. Start the engine.
  5. Over time, the excess will drain off.
  6. After the process is completed, tighten plug 2.

How much oil is recommended for Lada Granta

Let's consider suitable volumes of engine oil for all Lada Granta engines

Generation 1 (2011-2015)

  • For engine 1.6 106 l. With. (gasoline, manual/robot, model year – since 2011) the required oil volume is 3.5 liters.
  • For engine 1.6 82 l. With. (gasoline, manual, model year – 2011-2015) the required oil volume is 3.5 liters.
  • For engine 1.6 87 l. With. (gasoline, manual/automatic, model year – 2011-2015) the required oil volume is 3.6 liters.
  • For engine 1.6 98 l. With. (gasoline, manual/automatic, model year – 2011-2015) the required oil volume is 3.2 liters.

General Tips

An automatic transmission is more sensitive to dust than a manual transmission. This is worth considering. When changing the oil, make sure that all tubes with funnels are clean.

Do not increase the temperature of the box too much. An increase of 45 degrees would be optimal. And in an automatic transmission, you can replace the lubricant with a “cold” one. But if you want to get greater efficiency, then it is better to warm up the box. But then you will need to heat up the new oil.

When measuring the volume of drained lubricant, its temperature should be taken into account. Hot liquid tends to expand.

In case of incomplete replacement, about 3 liters of lubricant are consumed. In general, the crankcase contains 5.4 liters. Genuine EJ-1 ATF and Nissan ATF Matic-S transmission oils can be used for replacement.

Checking the oil level

Changing the oil is one of the main processes that a car enthusiast must master. You can certainly perform this procedure at any car service center, but doing it yourself is also not difficult. The first thing to check is the remaining oil level. In the Lada Granta this is done exclusively when the engine is warm!

The car must be operated for 10-15 minutes at an air temperature of about 20 °C. At lower temperatures, the engine will take a little longer to warm up, but it is recommended to change the oil in the cold season only if absolutely necessary! After the described manipulation, the car should be stopped on a flat surface and, opening the hood, do the following.

  1. Initially, the gearbox lever smoothly switches to position “1” from position “P”. Now you should do the reverse procedure, holding the gear shift lever at each of the intermediate positions on the way to the “P” position for 5 seconds.
  2. Next, the dipstick is removed from the Granta gearbox, thoroughly wiped with a dry and clean cloth and reinserted into the automatic transmission. It is important to ensure that the level measuring device is inserted all the way so as not to make a mistake with the volume of oil being poured. The dipstick should only be wiped with a clean cloth to prevent particles of dust and dirt from getting into the mechanism. The best option is a lint-free cloth for cars, sold in the appropriate departments of specialized stores. Its use completely eliminates the entry of foreign microparticles into the oil tank.
  3. At the next stage, the dipstick is removed again and the mark at which the oil level is checked is checked. If its value is below the minimum value limit, you can safely proceed directly to the oil change procedure.

Oil change steps

Changing the oil in a Granta automatic transmission is practically no different from that in cars of a similar class. For these purposes you will need:

  • oil;
  • rubber hose;
  • plastic funnel;
  • lint-free paper or cloth;
  • rag.

In cars of the Granta series, the owner does not have to worry about changing the oil, because its volume, unlike cars with a manual transmission, is designed for the entire life of the car. A number of experts still recommend changing the oil after the car’s mileage crosses the 100,000 km line. This approach is correct, because even a universal car with an automatic transmission requires basic care.

ATF change timing

In order not to spend money on overhauling the automatic transmission, experienced car owners advise changing the oil in the gearbox after 65 thousand km of driving the vehicle.

Since negatively influencing processes occurring inside the machine, both due to the fault of the car owner and natural ones, contribute to the rapid production of lubricant.

Such negative processes include:

  • an increase in the temperature in the box when slipping or driving off-road, as well as in countries with hot climates;
  • cold and abrupt starts in winter;
  • dirty filter device.

The oil in the Lada Xray automatic transmission ceases to perform the functions for which it was intended. Namely:

  • protection of metal parts from wear;
  • lubrication of machine components;

Attention! The Jatco JF414E automatic transmission is very picky about the quality of the lubricant. Therefore, cheap analogues will quickly disable it.

The manufacturer indicates that the lubricant must be changed after 80 thousand kilometers. Experienced car owners and mechanics advise motorists who have a car with this gearbox to replace it much earlier than this period. Therefore, the recommended complete replacement, taken from practice, is 50 - 60 thousand kilometers.

AvtoVAZ designers were faced with the task of finding an automatic transmission for the Lada Grant that would be reliable, inexpensive to operate and fit into the budget of the cheapest VAZ car. The Japanese automatic hydromechanical transmission Jatco JF414E became such an automatic transmission. We will deal with it now.

Some features of the replacement process

Changing the oil in the gearbox, performed in violation of the technology, can significantly damage the car and even completely disable it. You should pay attention to any nuances, of which there are not so many during the work process:

  1. Brand of oil. For a machine box, it would be more advisable to choose a certified product with a number of appropriate licenses. The packaging usually lists the technical features of the machines for which a particular product is oriented. Combining different oils or choosing a type that does not correspond to the make of the car is strictly prohibited.
  2. If you cannot unscrew the drain plug, it is recommended to seek help from a specialist. Prolonged mechanical impact can bend parts and also render the entire mechanism unusable.
  3. Oil level. The volume of lubricant that is below the minimum mark of the Lada Granta automatic transmission for a long time can allow air to be sucked directly into the oil pump. The consequence of this will be reduced oil pressure in the engine with subsequent failure of its operation. The car will stall until it is repaired by a professional mechanic. Too much oil will likely overflow through the pan and, if the engine overheats, can cause the car to catch fire.

When pouring oil into the gearbox for the first time, it is recommended to seek the help of a more experienced car enthusiast, who will immediately point out all the intricacies of the process. Thus, the entire procedure will take up to 30 minutes and will not require significant financial costs, with the exception of purchasing the automatic transmission oil itself.

Not so long ago, a new era began in the Russian automobile industry. AvtoVAZ finally managed to equip a Russian car with an automatic transmission. The first attempt of the pen was Grant's fret, moving further and further from the usual, unchanging classics. It has technical characteristics increasingly similar to international standards.

So, they started installing an automatic machine from Jatco on the Granta. The four-speed hydromechanical JF414E (AY-K3) from the Nissan subsidiary has already been installed on the Nissan Almera, March and other models, and for more than two decades. A fairly reliable hydraulic unit, a simple design without bells and whistles, time-tested, low price - it was not easy to find something similar among Europeans and Americans. The characteristics of the box are quite suitable even for modern cars.

Externally, the Lada Granta with automatic transmission is no different from its mechanized counterpart.

How to wash the unit?

The procedure includes the following steps:

  • unscrew the drain plug;
  • fill the “automatic machine” with a flushing agent;
  • we start the engine and perform periodic switching with the selector in all modes;
  • turn it off and, unscrewing the drain plug, drain the resulting “premix”.

The procedure is repeated at least three times.

We continue to replace

  1. We are waiting for the complete flow of mining.
  2. We wait the few minutes necessary for the internal cavity of the transmission to dry.
  3. Fill in new fluid. The principle is similar to the action with “mechanics”.
  4. We control the level.
  5. We start the engine and give it the opportunity to function without increased loads.
  6. We check the level again, and if it corresponds to the norm, we consider the procedure completed.

Features and characteristics of the machine gun on Grant

The main element is the automatic transmission control lever, which is made in the traditional form for cars 20 years ago. The shifters, in which the gears were switched sequentially, could cause problems due to driver errors when changing gears - you could simply skip the right one. Modern ones are made in the form of ladders. Such technical solutions eliminate the problem of incorrect switching. A cable is responsible for shifting gears; although this scheme is a bit old, it is reliable.

The firmware installed on the control unit most likely differs from Nissan’s: after all, VAZ’s engines are different.

P – parking mode;

N – neutral gear;

2 – move forward to second gear;

The machine controls the electronic control unit (firmware is installed into it), it is responsible for the acceleration and switching characteristics. The automatic transmission control unit and the engine control unit interact in pairs.
