What kind of oil to fill in Lada Granta - pros and cons of different compositions

Lada Granta oil change

Lada Granta is an affordable vehicle that is in great demand in the domestic market. The machines are manufactured using high-quality components and are reliable in operation. However, motorists must carry out maintenance without fail in accordance with the regulations. One of the important activities is changing the engine oil in the Lada Granta engine.

Motorists should change the lubricant in a timely manner to increase the life of the power plant. To do this, you need to check how much oil there should be in the Lada Granta engine, select the correct technical fluid and fill it. The listed activities do not need to be addressed to professionals if the car enthusiast has minimal experience in handling a car. However, you should follow the recommendations of professionals in order to know the volume of oil to be poured into the Lada Granta and which engine is best suited.

Replacement frequency

Recommendations for replacing technical fluid include a maintenance schedule, which differs for new and old cars. Experienced car enthusiasts make replacements within the time period established by the manufacturer in order to avoid serious problems with the engine. It is recommended to carry out car maintenance every 10-15 thousand km or annually. During this time, the substance will have the required properties to lubricate the components of the power unit. After this period, it will lose its viscosity and change color, which will indicate the need to fill in a new substance.

When finding out when to change the engine oil in a car, drivers need to take into account that the replacement interval is significantly affected by the technical condition of the engine and the car as a whole. If there are worn components, the procedure may be required earlier. After reading the articles, changing the oil will become less difficult, but drivers should also familiarize themselves with the technical documentation supplied with the car. An increase in lubricant consumption, a change in color, the presence of third-party impurities, leakage and a decrease in viscosity indicate the need to change the oil on Grant.

If you have a new car, the first Lada Granta oil change is carried out after 3,000 km. Then it is carried out every 10-15 thousand kilometers or once a year. It is worth considering that the period will also depend on the intensity of use. Some car enthusiasts often use their car, so they have to carry out maintenance several times a year. After replacing a new car within the prescribed period, its owners do not have to worry about the condition of the mechanisms. They may not contact specialists and perform the procedure themselves. However, they need to learn what is needed for replacement and how to carry it out correctly to avoid mistakes.

What kind of oil is used in Liftback from the factory?

By default, the manufacturer fills in the break-in fluid before the first maintenance. Class - mineral base. The fluid must be replaced upon reaching a mileage of 2–3 thousand km. Subsequent operation of the machine with break-in oil is extremely unsafe for the functionality of the engine. Oil consumption Lada Granta Liftback Regardless of the quality of assembly and components, the power unit consumes oil. The natural needs of the engine are at the level of 100 - 150 ml / 1000 km. Exceeding the permissible range indirectly indicates the presence of a malfunction.

Classification by temperature conditions For clarity, we indicate the data in a tabular version:

MarkingTemperature
5Woptimal for the climatic region – up to (-35℃)
10Wmoderate temperatures up to (-30℃)
15Wup to (-25℃)
20Wup to (-20℃)

Volume of oil to be filled: how much oil to pour into the Lada Granta?

On a Lada Granta, changing the engine oil requires compliance with important requirements. One of them is that the volume of oil in the engine must be maintained at the required level. For this purpose, there are special marks on the container with liquid. An oil change for the Lada Granta is not required if it is between the MIN and MAX values, and is also in good technical condition.

Drivers should regularly check the oil level in the power plant, regardless of when they plan to fill it next. The fact is that the volume of liquid may decrease sharply due to the presence of certain malfunctions. If this is not detected promptly and the product is not replaced, it will lead to serious malfunctions. Drivers should also know that the procedure for replacing technical fluid on engines with 8 and 16 valves is practically the same. On engines of the second type, it is impossible to remove the oil filter in the upper part. To do this you will need to unscrew the pan. Otherwise the procedure is almost identical.

A car enthusiast can claim that he changed the oil on Grant, but it was not enough. In this case, it is worth considering that a certain volume of liquid must be poured into the engine. On a 16-valve engine, we change the oil in the same way as an 8-valve engine, if they are operated in combination with a manual transmission. In this case, you will need to fill in 3.2 liters of oil. If the power plants are operated in combination with an automatic transmission, you will need to fill in 4.4 liters of oil. The approximate volume of oil in the lubrication system in the first case is 3.5 liters, and in the second it is more than 4.5 liters, but about 0.5 liters remains in the container after draining.

Motorists should ensure that the oil level does not exceed the MAX mark. Otherwise, leaks will occur, which will negatively affect the condition of the engine and the machine as a whole.

Why is it necessary to change the oil in the Grant engine?

Changing the oil in the Lada Granta engine is a must. This is explained by the fact that the lubricant provides high-quality lubrication of all parts of the power plant, which prevents their friction. As a result, the surface of the components does not wear out over time, and they can last much longer. However, proper operation of the composition is possible only if the volume corresponds to the required one and the quality is at a high level.

The system should contain only high-quality substances that do not contain foreign impurities. They can harm parts, causing them mechanical damage. When changing the oil in a Grant engine, drivers should also take into account that a new filter element must be installed along with it. Otherwise, purifying the composition from foreign impurities will be impossible; on the contrary, negative substances may enter it.

Motorists should take into account that during normal engine operation, engine oil consumption of up to 1 liter per 1000 km is considered normal. It depends on the viscosity, quality and operating conditions of the vehicle. For example, a car will consume more of this substance at high speed. New cars also quickly consume engine oil, since the piston rings, pistons and cylinder walls of the power unit have not yet gotten used to it. If motorists notice that the consumption of the substance is rapidly increasing, they need to contact a car service for diagnostics and troubleshooting.

What kind of oil should I fill in?

Sequence of actions when replacing the oil filter of Lada Granta Liftback with your own hands

  1. The machine is installed on a level platform (hydraulic lift), the engine oil is drained, and the hood is open.
  2. Using a special key with a chain cape, we twist the cleaner through the opening in the engine compartment. Without auxiliary equipment, it is difficult to tear it from its seat.
  3. Remove the cleaner.
  4. We wipe the seat, remove any residual waste, and check the integrity of the threads on the rod.
  5. Fill the new filter with 100 - 150 ml of new engine oil and install it in its original place.

It is important to know!!! The given algorithm of actions is relevant for an 8-valve engine. In a 16-valve design, oil and filter changes are carried out through the bottom of the engine compartment, since the valve covers are obstructed at the top.

What kind of oil should be poured into the Lada Granta?

Many car enthusiasts are interested in what kind of oil to pour into the Lada Granta engine with an 8-valve and 16-valve engine. Of course, they can follow advice from experienced car owners by reading numerous reviews on the Internet. However, this information will not be enough. Moreover, she cannot always be trusted. It is safe to pay attention to the manufacturer's recommendations.

AvtoVAZ recommends using oil from the following manufacturers for Lada Granta: Mobil 1, ShellHelix, Lukoil, Rosneft and Tatneft. Car enthusiasts can also pay attention to other products that will meet the requirements for viscosity grade and other characteristics. It should be taken into account that the manufacturer recommends using products with SJ and SL parameters, API or ACEA class. Finding an oil that meets your requirements for Granta with 8 or 16 valves is easy thanks to the wide range of offers.

Motorists with an 8-valve Grant engine can select engine oil in accordance with the one it was filled with at the factory. The fact is that it is different for each series of cars. To find out this information you need to look under the hood and find a tag with the corresponding inscription. Reviews from car owners confirm that for the Lada Grant the manufacturer uses mineral or semi-synthetic oil, which is produced by Lukoil. For this reason, they can safely give preference to these products for the Lada Grant, additionally choosing the appropriate composition according to their characteristics.

Selecting oil and filter, determining filling volumes

The manufacturer presents a very extensive list of oil products suitable for Grant engines. Thanks to this list, you can decide which oil is best to fill in the Grant, taking into account the general operating conditions of the car. But with any choice, the lubricant must belong to one of the groups (SJ or SL) according to the API classification.

Motor oils for Lada Granta are selected taking into account the following important characteristics:

    viscosity grade; classification group; lubricant brands; manufacturer; regulatory recommendations; temperature ranges.

Granta is equipped with 8 or 16 valve engines. Regardless of the motor modification, the manufacturer recommends using the same filter elements. Replacing the filter is prescribed as a mandatory operation when changing the lubricant.

Car service specialists and many forum users advise choosing a filter that has an anti-drainage valve and a bypass. This design feature increases the efficiency of the filtration system.

The Grant engine with 8 or 16 valves with a manual transmission takes 3.2 liters of lubricant. Models with automatic transmission will require 4.4 liters of engine oil for Lada Granta.

A new or refurbished engine may consume lubricant in excess of normal. This occurs due to piston rings and cylinders that are not ground to each other. Also, increased lubricant consumption is expected during intensive driving at high speeds.

Pros and cons of different formulations

The Lada Granta car manufacturer recommends using only semi-synthetic products. However, many drivers prefer synthetic lubricants, since their use makes it easier for the power unit to start in severe frost. Drivers need to find out which oil to pour into a Granta with 16 valves or 8 valves in the engine. First of all, you need to familiarize yourself with the advantages of synthetic oil:

  • the products are highly resistant to negative influences, including changes in air temperature;
  • at high negative temperatures, synthetic products have better fluidity compared to semi-synthetics;
  • the product contains much fewer additives, since most of them are synthesized at the time of manufacture;
  • The oil is completely synthetic, therefore it has the best anti-friction characteristics;
  • Thanks to the undeniable quality and better lubrication characteristics, the friction of engine parts is reduced, and accordingly, its service life is increased and the intervals between repairs are reduced.

When choosing a good engine oil, it is better for Lada Granta with 8 and 16 valves to give preference to synthetic consumables. Additionally, drivers should monitor engine operating temperature, speed and vibration to ensure that the selected components are ideal for the power unit. It is also worth using flushing oil when changing from one composition to another, since residual substances will remain in the system, and mixing different types is not recommended.

A little about the oil High-quality and inexpensive domestic semi-synthetic with the characteristics of synthetic oil. The composition includes organic molybdenum, can easily withstand heavy loads and is excellent for used engines of domestic and foreign production.

What is needed to change the oil?

When changing engine oil, you must install a new Lada Granta oil filter. This is explained by the fact that it quickly becomes clogged and is unable to perform its functions. The Lada Granta filter element will not be able to filter technical fluid if it is seriously contaminated. This will lead to foreign substances entering the engine along with the engine oil. This will negatively affect the condition of the components of the power plant, since friction will occur between the parts and over time they will wear out.

Car enthusiasts are interested in which oil filter for Granta can be purchased better. The automotive market offers a wide range of products of this type. They are easy to find and have an affordable price. If the driver has not dealt with oil filters on the Grant, it is advisable for him to contact specialists who will select this element and install it efficiently.

Lada Granta for oil change

What volume of oil needs to be filled

When changing engine oil on a Lada Granta, you need to pour in 3.5 liters of the mixture, completely getting rid of the old lubricant. If less liquid is placed in the container, this indicates that the same composition remains in it. This is harmful to the engine, especially if the new product is different in composition.

Additionally, it is recommended to flush the engine before replacing, especially if we are talking about updating oil that has been run in from the factory.

How to change the engine oil of a Lada Granta?

Drivers can change the engine oil themselves. They need to know how this procedure is carried out, since the need for it may arise right on the road. To do this, you need to use the recommendations of specialists. After watching the thematic video, the replacement will not cause any difficulties. In general, the process is easy and does not take much time. To change the oil on a Lada Granta, perform the following steps:

  • unscrew the oil filler cap and loosen the drain plug on the pan;
  • the old oil is completely drained into a specially prepared container;
  • using pullers, the oil filter is unscrewed and the crankshaft sensor block is disconnected to prevent damage;
  • oil is poured up to half of the new filter and the rubber sealing ring is lubricated;
  • the procedure is carried out in the reverse order, after which the oil is poured through the neck and it closes;
  • it should drain completely, after which you can start the engine;
  • the substance level indicator lamp on the panel will light up and go out, at which point the replacement process is completed.

The process of selecting and changing engine oil on a Lada Granta car is simple and can be done by every driver.

Step-by-step guide for changing engine oil

  1. Provide access to the drain hole. This may require removing the crankcase protection.
  2. The engine filler cap is removed.
  3. The drain plug in the pan becomes loose.
  4. A container is placed under the drain hole into which the used lubricant will be drained.
  5. Unscrew the cap by hand, and at the final stage, sharply move the hand with the unscrewed cap to the side.
  6. Wait 10–15 minutes until the waste liquid drains to the maximum.
  7. Move the container to the place where the oil filter is located. They unscrew it. Sometimes this is done using a special key. In such cases, it is recommended to first disconnect the crankshaft sensor block. This reduces the risk of the puller damaging a fragile part.
  8. Screw the drain plug back in. Old oil stains are wiped off, and the waste container is removed.
  9. If the type of oil being filled changes, you will have to flush the engine using special fluids.
  10. A new filter is being prepared for installation. Fresh lubricant is poured into its body (about halfway). The rubber O-ring is lubricated with new oil. The filter element is tightened by hand without excessive force.
  11. New lubricant is poured through the neck. Oil should be poured slowly to avoid leaks and overflow.
  12. Check the oil level. The fluid on the dipstick should stop midway between the “min” marks. and "max."
  13. The filler cap closes and the engine starts.
  14. The engine is allowed to run for a while to record the oil indicator readings.
  15. The engine is switched off, after a few minutes the oil level is checked again. If necessary, add a certain amount of new lubricant.

During the oil change process, they try to ensure that the liquid does not get on the ground. Drilling can be used for a variety of technical needs. Under no circumstances should you simply pour old lubricant onto the ground.

Algorithm: how to change

The engine oil in Grant is supposed to be changed every 15-20 thousand kilometers. The range is determined by the degree of load on the car. The higher they are, the more often the lubricant should be changed. The amount required for replacement varies depending on the type of transmission. A system with an automatic requires 4.4 liters of oil, for a car with a manual – 3.2.

You can change the engine oil yourself. It looks like this step by step:

  • Warming up the engine to operating temperatures.
  • Installing a car on an overpass or inspection hole.
  • Power plant shutdown.
  • Removing the crankcase protection (if you have a 16-valve model).
  • Removing the plug from the filler neck.
  • Cleaning the drain hole around the perimeter.
  • Removing the plug on the pallet (you will need a 17 mm or hex key).

  • Draining used oil.
  • Return the plug to its place.

  • Cleaning the filter housing.
  • Fill the new filter halfway with oil. O-ring lubrication.
  • Installation of a new filter.
  • Add oil through the top neck. The total volume is 0.5 liters below normal.
  • Checking the lubricant level with a dipstick. This is carried out no earlier than 3 minutes after filling.
  • Test start of the engine, monitoring the absence of leaks, re-checking the lubricant level, topping it up if necessary.

For convenience, it is recommended to drive the car onto a pit/overpass, then:

  1. Unscrew the oil filler cap on the engine.
  2. Clean the oil pan from dirt, install an empty container and unscrew the drain plug from the bottom of the car using a 17mm wrench. Be careful not to burn yourself!

After all the oil has run out (about 10 minutes), clean the plug from dirt and screw it back in.

How to check the oil level in Grant

After we changed the oil in the engine, started the engine and it ran for a while, we wait until the oil drains into the sump and check its level.

We take out the oil dipstick and check the level. It should be between min and max. If necessary, add oil and enjoy the work done.

The history of the Lada Granta begins in the spring of 2011, when the domestic car was first put on the assembly line. The front-wheel drive model, which replaced the Samara-2, is essentially a budget version of the Kalina and uses its platform as a base. The main differences are in the somewhat stripped-down configuration and appearance. If we consider the initial configuration, then thanks to its technical data the Grant fits perfectly into a rather impressive list of competitors - Skoda Fabia, Kia Rio, Renault Logan and Hyundai Solaris.

The model was equipped with 2 types of power plants: less powerful 8-valve units with a volume of 1.6 liters and a power of 81 and 87 hp, as well as more “charged” 16-valve units from Priora with the same volume, but with a power of 98 and 106 liters .With. Separately, it is worth noting the premium sports version of the Grant - its engine produced 120 hp. with the same working volumes (Lada Granta was released in 2013). Despite some differences in the engines, they all consume the same amount and the same types of oil, which will be discussed in more detail below.

If at first the model was produced only in the classic sedan body, then since 2014 a hatchback (or liftback) modification has also become available, which has significantly expanded the audience of buyers. Technically, the range of engines has not changed and they are all paired with an automatic or manual transmission. The Lada Granta has become an excellent example of how modern technologies and a fairly affordable price tag can be combined in one car. However, if we consider more expensive trim levels (the same modernized Granta Sport), then all the advantages of a domestic car are definitely inferior to used foreign models available on the secondary market.
