First generation 2107, 1982-2012

When replacement may be needed

The lubricant loses its properties over time. The oil be changed regularly, according to the instructions. But during operation, signs of malfunctions may appear, which indicate the need for a faster change of waste fluid:

Why do you change the oil?

The rear axle gearbox is a mechanism that is subjected to a number of different loads. Through these loads, destructive actions occur. To avoid accelerated wear of gearbox parts, it is necessary to use a special lubricant. This lubricant is an oil that, during the operation of the gears of the mechanism, envelops them, eliminating accelerated wear and overheating, and also cleans the teeth from chips and metal dust.

It is necessary to change the oil in the rear axle gearbox for the simple reason that over time it loses its primary properties. When the gears rub against each other, thermal energy is released, the value of which is reduced with the help of a lubricating fluid. In addition, when the gears rub, the teeth wear out, resulting in the formation of chips and metal dust. If you do not change the lubricant in the gearbox for a long time, the amount of metal shavings and dust will only increase, which will lead to accelerated wear of the rubbing parts.

How much oil is required

Before proceeding directly to the procedure, you should decide how much oil to fill. According to the manual, the volume of oil required in the drive axle gearbox of the “classic” is 1.35 liters. Therefore, when preparing for the procedure for changing it, it is recommended to prepare a larger amount - approximately 1.5 liters of liquid. The remaining volume is needed for internal cleaning of the gearbox: the mixture with diesel fuel is poured.

Second phase

The gearbox is flushed during the fluid replacement process. To flush the rear axle gearbox, you need to mix transmission or engine oil with diesel fuel. The proportion should correspond to 3: 1. Washing consists of the following sequence of actions:

  • Draining old grease;
  • Cleaning the system from dirt, sediment and mixture residues;
  • Wiping all containers and cases;
  • The prepared mixture is poured into the system;
  • Next, you should jack up one wheel, start the engine, switching to first gear;
  • Wait a few minutes;
  • Drain the flush.

The gearbox is flushed once every 4–6 months, when undergoing scheduled repairs or replacing transmission fluid.

First stage

Having installed the car on the inspection hole, you can begin draining the old oil from the gearbox on the VAZ 2107. The procedure is carried out in the following sequence:

  • Remove dirt from the drain and filler plugs;
  • Place a container for draining under the drain plug;
  • Unscrew the drain plug with a 12 key;
  • Carefully drain the old oil;
  • Tighten the drain plug.

Draining the oil is done with the engine warm; work must be done with caution to avoid burns. The liquid must drain completely, since heavy suspensions are always found in the thickness of the sediment, which drains last.

Replacing the oil seal in a VAZ 2107 gearbox begins with draining the oil from the crankcase mounted on the rear axle. After this, the plug on the oil drain hole is screwed back on. Both axle shafts are removed from the beam on the rear axle. The four nuts are unscrewed and the bolts connecting the universal joint flange and the drive gear flange are removed. To fix the cardan (see) from turning, it must be held with a mounting blade. The flanges are separated using a screwdriver. A strong cord is wound around the drive gear flange. To do this, you need to make several revolutions of the shaft. Then, while winding the cord using a dynamometer, check the moment of resistance when turning the drive gear. Its meaning is remembered

This is very important when replacing the rear axle gearbox seal on a VAZ 2107. Unscrew the nut holding the drive gear flange, which is fixed with a special key, and remove the flat washer.

  • The flange is removed.
  • The drive gear oil seal is removed from the crankcase neck of the assembly, for which it is pryed off with a screwdriver.

Installing a new oil seal

So:

  • The seat is cleaned of traces of corrosion.
  • Litol-24 lubricant is used to lubricate the working surfaces of the crankcase of the new cuff.
  • The oil seal is put in place and pressed into the gear housing through a mandrel with light blows of a hammer. The oil seal must not be skewed. The pressing depth is 1.7 - 2 millimeters from the end of the crankcase.
  • After the oil seal on the VAZ 2107 gearbox has been replaced, the drive gear flange and washer are installed.
  • The flange is held with a special wrench and the nut securing it is tightened. The tightening torque depends on the moment of resistance of the drive gear to turning, and is equal to 117 - 254 Nm.
    It is necessary to start tightening with a smaller torque, periodically checking the resistance moment of the nut being tightened.

Once the VAZ 2107 axle gearbox seal has been replaced, installation of the removed parts is done in the reverse order of removal.

Changing the oil in the steering wheel of a VAZ yourself

  • To flush, you need to fill in about one liter of a mixture of thirty percent kerosene with gear oil. Instead of kerosene, you can use diesel fuel.
  • One rear wheel is lifted, first gear is engaged and the engine is started.
  • After three minutes, the washing mixture is drained.
  • For filling, it is better to use an oil blower or a lever grease gun. If you don’t have them on hand, you can use a large plastic syringe with an elastic tube attached to its end.
  • 1.3 liters of special transmission oil is poured into the gearbox.
  • It is necessary to ensure that its level reaches the lower edge of the filler hole.

Filling: Filling the oil back is very simple, through the filler hole using the same syringe new oil is poured into the gearbox housing, that’s basically all, and when the oil is filled in, tighten the top filler plug and you can assume that you have oil changed.

Changing the oil - VAZ 2104

Before repair work, you should prepare a little:

  • Place the waste container under the stream of oil.
  • Wait about 10 minutes until the hot oil drains from the pan into the container.

  • Now you can flush the engine. This is done in accordance with the instructions for the flushing oil.

  • After flushing the engine, you can begin replacing the filter and adding oil.
  • The filter is removed with a puller (although this can often be done simply by hand). Using a puller, pinch the filter and tear it out of place. Then twist it by hand.
  • Clean the seat under the oil filter from dirt and possible residues of the rubber filter seal using a knife or other sharp object.
  • Screw the new filter into place BY HANDS, after pouring a little oil into it and lubricating the rubber seal with engine oil.
  • Now that the filter is installed, you can fill in new oil.
  • To do this, you need to unscrew the filler neck, which is located under the hood on the valve cover.
  • Insert a watering can into the filler hole to prevent oil from getting onto the engine.
  • Fill in the oil and monitor its level in the engine using the oil dipstick.
  • The oil level should be between the minimum and maximum marks.
  • After the required amount of oil has been poured into the engine, you can screw the filler plug back in.
  • Pay attention to the condition of the plug. If it is loose or does not fit tightly in the hole, it is better to replace it.

Checking the condition of the lid

  • After changing the oil, check the drain plug for leaks. Tighten it if necessary.
  • Reinstall the engine protection.
  • Start the car and let it run for about a minute.
  • In the first 10 seconds the oil pressure indicator should go out.
  • Then you should check the oil level again and add the required amount.

Changing the transmission oil

Advice! Before changing the oil in the gearbox, clean the gearbox body from dirt, especially the drain and filler plugs.

  • Take a 12mm hexagon and unscrew the drain plug in the lower gearbox cover.
  • Place the container and wait until the oil is completely drained from the gearbox.
  • Then screw the drain plug back on.
  • Now you will need a 17 key or socket. Unscrew the drain plug, which also serves as the oil level in the gearbox.
  • Using a syringe, you need to pour oil into the gearbox housing. A syringe can be used either special or homemade, and a watering can with a hose can also be used.
  • A sufficient amount of oil has been filled - this is when it starts to drip from the filler hole.
  • Quickly screw back the filler plug to avoid contaminating the surrounding work area.
