How to remove the spare tire on a Lada Largus - station wagon, crossover, van. Video

On the Lada Largus, the manufacturer has allocated space in the trunk for a spare wheel. Today, many drivers, in order to save money, prefer to install LPG (gas equipment). For this reason, they face a problem: where to put the additional wheel, because a gas cylinder is installed in its place.

Some people design special devices for attaching the spare wheel to Largus with their own hands, but they turn out to be too bulky and look unaesthetic. They can also raise questions from traffic police officers, since license plates or lights are often covered with such mounts. The best solution to the problem would be to install a spare wheel on the Largus rear door.

Where is the Lada Largus spare tire located?

Since the ancestor of the Lada Largus was the French van Dacia Logan MCV, from which the location of the spare wheel was inherited - under the rear of the car on a special bracket. This was done in order to save space in the trunk of the car, and even without a niche for the spare tire, you get a flat floor on which it is more convenient to load cargo.

Bracket for spare wheel

This bracket allows you to hold both the spare tire and the spare wheel with equally good efficiency. This product is also not capable of interfering with the functioning of parking sensors and allows you to install a tow bar without additional effort.

Next, using a specific example, we give the features of the bracket. The product has compact dimensions and weight:

  • length – 55 cm;
  • width – a similar parameter (55 cm);
  • height does not exceed 30 cm;
  • The weight of the product is 5 kg.

In addition to the specified bracket, manufacturers include a cover for the spare tire, made of eco-leather, or a hard plastic cap.

How to remove the spare tire on a Lada Largus?

1. Open the trunk doors. 2. Find a standard jack and move it to the side. Behind it is a wheel wrench, which we will need to remove the spare tire.

3. Bend the flap in the trunk carpet to free access to the bracket mounting bolt.

4. Use a wheel wrench to unscrew the bolt counterclockwise to lower the spare tire bracket.

5. After this, remove the released latch and lower the bracket along with the spare tire to the ground.

6. Next, pull the wheel towards you.

7. After replacing the wheel with a spare wheel, place the damaged wheel on the bracket and put it back.

Necessary tools

The reasons why there may be a need to replace a wheel are varied: a simple puncture, the need to change brake discs, or a failed shock absorber.

Each driver must be able to perform the procedure for removing and installing a new model. The replacement process is quite simple and should not cause any difficulties for the owner. To remove a wheel on a Lada Largus car, you will need a minimum set consisting of the following:

  • jack;
  • balloon wrench;
  • collar for the nozzle (end);
  • 17 mm nozzles for the knob.

What problems can arise when removing the spare wheel on a Lada Largus?

For most owners of a domestic station wagon, it is not news that mounting the spare wheel on the Lada Largus was done as poorly as possible - the mounting bolt is located under the bottom, which means it is exposed to moisture, dirt, and road reagents. Over time, it rusts and sours. And at the moment when the need for a spare wheel arises, the bolt refuses to unscrew.

To avoid this, it is necessary to carry out preventative maintenance on the spare wheel bracket, i.e. Clean and lubricate the bracket bolt at least once a season. But who does that until they run into a problem?

If you decide to unscrew a soured spare wheel bolt on a Lada Largus, you will have to arm yourself with the necessary tools and be patient.

1. This work must be carried out on a pit, overpass or lift. 2. Clean the threads from dirt with a wire brush. 3. Spray generously with penetrating lubricant such as WD-40. 4. We wait 10-15 minutes. 5. We try to move the thread with a wrench. If it does, then unscrew the bolt completely. 6. If the thread does not lend itself, we arm ourselves with a gas burner and warm up the bolt well from the bracket side. After these manipulations, the bolt should either come out or break off. Most often the bolt comes out. 7. We clean the threads using a metal brush inside the bracket, and replace the rusty retainer with a new one, having previously treated it with water-repellent lubricant.

Due to the inconvenient location and the problem of removing the spare wheel, many Largus owners move it to the back door using a special bracket:

Every motorist may find himself in a situation where he needs to change a tire. No one is protected from a tire puncture, plus, it may be necessary to change the tire before winter or before the start of the summer season. One way or another, you just need to have the following things in the trunk:

— Actually, a spare wheel — A jack — A wheel wrench (for unscrewing the wheel bolts), preferably with an extension cord — A pump with a pressure gauge.

It is not difficult to notice that one of the wheels has “burst.” This is, first of all, weighting or spontaneous turning of the steering wheel in any direction. If you notice these signs, stop immediately. Don’t even think about driving a little further “to the yard” or anywhere else. Driving with a flat tire will eliminate the possibility of getting it repaired.

So you're on the sidelines. Before changing a wheel, be sure to secure the vehicle on a level surface. No hills or holes! Engage first gear and handbrake, place some kind of support under the car wheels.

In addition to the wheel, jack, and wheel wrench, you may also need gloves for your hands and a small board to place under the jack. A plank is especially needed on uneven surfaces, such as dirt or sand.

Before installing the jack under the body stiffeners, the bolts must be loosened. A wheel wrench is for exactly this purpose. Why do we unscrew the bolts without lifting the car, you ask. The fact is that when the car is raised, the wheel will rotate a little, and the (slightly) loosened bolts will be easier to remove later.

The jack must be installed strictly in the designated place. You can feel it with your hand - it is a groove/recess under the bottom. If you can’t find it, look under the bottom, it will be easier. Start lifting the car only after making sure that the jack is securely fastened. Many people get into this problem - an incorrectly installed jack cannot support the weight of the car and collapses, causing the car to fall with a crash. You should not be convinced of this personally; unnecessary repairs due to negligence will be unpleasant.

As soon as the wheel is above ground level, we stop lifting and completely unscrew the bolts. The wheel must be pulled off the guide pins. It is also necessary to install a new wheel in accordance with the bolt pattern.

Once you have installed the wheel, tighten the 4 bolts by hand, lower the jack and only then tighten the bolts with a wheel wrench. It is worth taking this seriously. Your safety on the road depends on this.

By the way, you should never lubricate the threads of the bolts - they will quickly unscrew. It will be unpleasant if you are left without a wheel at high speed. One can only guess the consequences...

Advantages and disadvantages of fastenings

The spare wheel bracket located on the rear door has a number of advantages:

  • does not spoil the appearance of the car;
  • reliable;
  • easy to operate and install;
  • preserves the ability to use the useful volume of the trunk to the maximum.

The spare wheel mounted on the rear door protects the bumper from possible damage.

Among the shortcomings, it is worth noting the possible sagging of the hinges with all the ensuing consequences - loose closing of the door, distortions, creaks. Car owners also note that the door does not open completely, which makes accessing part of the trunk difficult.

How to make a gate for a spare tire with your own hands

Wicket option This product can be made with skills, materials, tools and a welding machine. The easiest way is to bend a metal tube using a pipe bender, then weld the hinges and jumper. The wheel is bolted on

It is important to make a spacer:

  • Take a square tube 2.5x2.5 cm, make a square out of it according to the dimensions of the gate for the spare wheel.
  • Drill 4 holes to match the holes in the bracket.
  • Then take a rubber mat for the battery from a VAZ-2106 or AZLK-2141.
  • Place the mat on superglue to protect it from scratches. Then use a blade to cut off all excess and screw the gate together with the spacer to the towbar.

Constant fluctuations in gasoline prices make us think about an alternative power source for the car. A good option would be to switch to gas, because using gas in a car is much more economically profitable than using gasoline. In addition, the infrastructure of gas filling stations today is well developed, so there should be no problems with filling your car with gas. Another advantage of gas equipment is the ease of installation, which does not change the design of the vehicle.

Thus, the result is a vehicle capable of running on both gasoline and gas. And if you don’t like moving around with the cylinder, you can always turn it off or dismantle it yourself.

A gas cylinder is the main element of gas equipment.

There are two main types of gas cylinders:

Which of these cylinders is better? In essence, their purpose and operating principle are the same. Therefore, when choosing a cylinder for a car, you should focus on the features of using the car and your needs: how often you use the trunk, how loaded it is, whether it is possible to fold down the seats and increase the space in the luggage compartment.

Today, toroidal cylinders are the most common in passenger cars due to their compact size and ease of use.

Tips for choosing tires

The Lada Largus is available in a front-wheel drive version, so it is better to purchase two sets of tires: a summer and a winter version. Preference can be given to both domestic and foreign rubber manufacturers. It’s not worth saving on purchasing as an all-season product: multiple experiments have proven its dubious effectiveness. Winter in the Russian Federation is almost always snowy, so it makes sense to choose Lada Largus Cross wheels with studs. The popular Velcro doesn't really help when the road is heavily covered with snow.

What's the secret?

Of course, such brilliant results are impossible without choosing reliable Italian equipment from Landi Renzo.

We have been working with the manufacturer Landi Renzo for 20 years. And all these years we have only become more convinced of our choice and the reliability of this brand.

So for our Lada Largus we chose the 4th generation Landi Renzo EVO kit.

Very little effort and time is spent on installation, and then, like in a fairy tale: I sat down and drove off. No additional work, settings, rechecks - only economical, quiet and efficient operation of the engine on gas.

The Landi Renzo EVO kit is easy to install, has a self-calibration function, and is suitable for our climate and gas: propane-butane mixture, which is sold at Belarusian gas stations.

  • After installing Landi Renzo EVO on a car, the environmental friendliness of the exhaust increases by one class. In our example, the Lada Largus complied with Euro-5 eco-standards, but now it complies with Euro-6.
  • The reducer is designed for use in propane-butane systems, contains a solenoid shut-off valve for greater safety and is suitable for 4-cylinder engines up to 110 kW.
  • Italian gas injectors are considered the best among competitors; they are resistant to various fuel contaminants and have a long service life.
  • The petrol/gas switch, which is installed in the passenger compartment, will not only fit well into any car interior, but will also show the level of remaining gas in the cylinder, and when the fuel level is low, it will sound a reminder to the driver.

Another secret of our result in converting Lada Largus to gas is the firmware, due to which the electronic engine control unit supplies fuel to the cylinders so that the engine does not actually lose power. As was the case in our case.

Do you want the same?

Our experience in converting the Lada Largus to gas, the ECU firmware used and high-quality Italian equipment - all this suggests that any car produced by AvtoVAZ with a 1.6 petrol engine can be converted to gas without any actual loss of power. After all, a 1.6% loss of torque will not in any way affect the speed gain and driving comfort.

Do you want to reduce fuel costs and avoid detonation and coking of engine cylinders, and switch to environmentally friendly and inexpensive fuel - gas?

Then welcome to the installation of gas equipment in.

The first 50 owners of cars manufactured by AvtoVAZ receive a 2-year warranty on the installed gas equipment without mileage restrictions.
