Changing the oil in a UAZ engine is an effective choice

But as practice has shown, fluid oil with, for example, a viscosity of 5w40 is too thin for this engine. Over 10,000 km, not much, not less than 1.5 liters of oil leaked. Perhaps this is just our car, about which there are some doubts, and you have a more successful assembly.

Therefore, our advice is to fill the UAZ engine with liqui moly oil of the Optimal 10w40 series - this is an ideal product for this car both in terms of viscosity and additives, both detergent and anti-corrosion.

For diesel versions, feel free to take Optimal diesel oil, it will work more efficiently in diesel engines.

Since the UAZ is often used in off-road conditions, the load on the engine is especially high, so mix the oil with the CeraTec additive, which will provide better lubrication of engine parts, reduce metal-to-metal friction, and therefore significantly increase the service life of the vehicle.

The UAZ engine will be under the best protection, and you won’t have to think about repairs, etc., but just enjoy driving it off-road. Oil Optimal 10w40, easily pumped at temperatures down to -25C, tested on myself.

If more severe temperatures are expected in winter, then it would be better to fill in this more fluid product with a viscosity of 5W40. This is 100% synthetic, we said earlier that the oil does not keep the engine fluid, but what to do if the degrees reach -30, and this product will not freeze to -40C. In winter, it is, in principle, relevant.

When to change the oil in a UAZ

Under heavy loads, it is advisable to change the oil when the mileage reaches 10 thousand. Synthetics can be replaced at 15 thousand - this is a guarantee, you are using German quality from Liqui Moly. And remember, if you are switching from another oil, it is advisable to rinse with a light rinse for 10 minutes, this is enough. This is necessary, firstly, so that there is no conflict with additives, and secondly, so that the new oil really works effectively.

Oil for the box and transfer case of the UAZ.

The transmission in the UAZ is a manual 5-speed, the oil filling volume in it is 2.8 liters. Viscosity recommendation 75w-90 with GL-4 standard. To replace you will need 3 liters of this oil. It holds high temperatures perfectly, so be sure that it will not let you down and will not allow the box to overheat to a critical point. And also, and perhaps most importantly, it will not cause corrosion.

As for the transfer case, the same oil is poured here as into the box. You only need 1 liter of this gear oil. Just like with the engine, add CeraTec to the transmission for greater efficiency, and you will forget about transmission-related problems for a long time. How much oil to fill

First generation 315195, since 2003

UAZ Hunter is the successor to models 31512 and 31514, on the basis of which it was created. Moreover, all three cars were developed on the basis of the UAZ-469 model of 1972. In the mid-2010s, UAZ suspended production of the SUV, but then the opportunity arose to resume production thanks to partial adaptation to modern standards.

Thus, the car received Euro 5 support and updated safety. Since 2022, the UAZ Hunter is officially a truck of the N1G category, which does not include airbags. Among the modern attributes available for Hunter, we can highlight ABS and the Era-Glonass module. The car differs from the UAZ-469 in its plastic radiator grille, black window frames with “rivets”, sliding glass in the windows, different bumpers and a one-piece rear door. As for engines, at first the UMZ-421 engine was available for Hunter, which was later replaced by the heavier (190 versus 170 kg) ZMZ-409.

Oil for UAZ axles (differentials).

The standard required is GL-5, be careful when choosing. Fill in this synthetic oil 75w90 (GL-5). Under increased loads: when driving off-road, in mud, or participating in rally racing, we recommend using high-temperature-resistant oil with a viscosity of 75w140.

Equipment and materials

To change the oil in the axles of a UAZ vehicle, the following equipment and materials are required:

1. Wire brush. Necessary for cleaning plugs from dust, dirt and oil deposits;
2. Container for collecting liquid. The container must be of sufficient volume with a wide neck. A cut plastic canister or other container will do;
3. Hexagon. A tool designed to open plugs. Supplied by the manufacturer with the vehicle;
4. Rags. Used to clean the inside of corks. Use a rag to wipe away oil spills after the procedure;
5. Transmission lubricant. Oil of the required viscosity is used;
6. A specialized syringe or other device designed to inject liquid;
7. Lamp or lantern. Used to illuminate the workplace.

Antifreeze for UAZ.

The cooling system of the UAZ is rather large, with a volume of 14 liters during a full shift. Coolant G 11 is prescribed; blue high-quality antifreeze concentrate KFS 2000 is suitable here. It is diluted one to one with distilled water. Protects against corrosion. By the way, very often antifreeze leaks in UAZ vehicles, this is due to microscopic cracks in the hoses. This is usually visible when flexed. Often technicians cannot detect the problem and the cause, so use a cooling system sealant - a great thing, tested on yourself. What oil is needed for an SUV

When initially refueling the ZMZ Pro Euro 5 engine, used on the Patriot since 2022, original oil of 2 grades is used:

• synthetic Motor Oil Premium SAE 5W-40, SN/CF;
• semi-synthetic Motor Oil SAE 10W-40, SL/CF.

Oils to replace.
Synthetic based fluid is recommended for severe operating conditions. The type of lubricant filled into the engine is indicated in the accompanying documentation. When servicing a car at an official dealer, the engines are filled with original material recommended by the manufacturer.

When purchasing a used car that has been serviced by the previous owner itself, it is difficult to determine the type and viscosity of the lubricant in the engine. The existing liquid is drained, and the cavity of the power unit is washed with special oil. Then fresh substance is poured in accordance with the plant’s recommendations.

An additional criterion for choosing oil is the climate zone in which the SUV will be operated. The selection of the base is carried out taking into account the maximum and minimum air temperatures in summer and winter. Synthetic materials are suitable for operation at low temperatures because they retain fluidity and facilitate the procedure for cranking the shaft with the starter. The list of lubricants acceptable for refueling a gasoline unit is given in the table.

When using a synthetic-based fluid, knocking noise may occur from the hydraulic valve lash compensators installed in the gas distribution mechanism. The defect is observed on cars with mileage of more than 80 thousand km. New compensators allow the use of both synthetic and semi-synthetic oil. But the use of mineral-based lubricants is not recommended, since the design of the motor is not designed for the use of such substances.

The ZMZ 514 diesel engine (or the less common Iveco) requires the use of oils that meet the API CF-4 specification and higher. The lubricant container must contain an inscription confirming that the substance is suitable for use in diesel engines equipped with a turbocharger.

Despite this, their operational period directly depends on the owner’s compliance with the regulations for their maintenance. Irregular oil changes or completely ignoring them can cause vehicle failure, reducing its handling, maneuverability and safety on the road.

It is not difficult to carry out routine maintenance of axles, transfer cases and gearboxes at home, but it is advisable to replace the transmission oil in all components, which, on the one hand, will allow you not to get confused about the timing of re-replacement, and on the other hand, will extend the life of the car. 4. Once the desired level is reached, the filling is stopped. The plug is returned to its place.
