If we talk about general features, then for both cars a domestic engine of the VAZ-21129 series is produced. Engine power is 106 horsepower. The unit has a reliable and simple design: 4 cylinders and 16 valves, as well as a distributed fuel injection complex.

The Lada Vesta can be accelerated to 100 km/h in 11.2 seconds, the X-Ray in 11.4 seconds, despite such a small power.
As for the maximum speed, the difference is small. X Ray overtakes Vesta by 1 km/h (176 versus 175 km/h).
Fuel consumption also has a slight difference: Vesta - 9.3/6.9/5.5 liters, X-Ray - 9.3/7.2/5.9 liters.

Experience in operating cars: my father’s IZH-412, still with an iron torpedo, and he already has his own car, Kalina, for more than 5 years.

I took Kalina to the next maintenance and decided at the same time to see what the dealer had.

I looked closely at the news and took the robot for a test drive. There was also a minimally equipped hrey in the cabin, I sat in it and almost had an attack of claustrophobia, all the surfaces were vertical, black, the glazing line was high, as if I had climbed into a closet. The tidy, compared to the West one, also seemed frivolous. But at the same time, the quality of the plastic in the cabin is good, reminiscent of a SLR camera, and overall the car makes a good impression.

After a couple of months I decided to update my car.

I was waiting for the release of Chevy Niva 2, but it didn’t happen.

I was waiting for the West station wagon 1.8 by the fall, but that didn’t happen either.

I took a ride on the rapid, the machine was ok. But in an acceptable configuration it cost more, and that’s with 90 hp. engine,

besides, the dealer could not clearly say about the delivery time, and in stock there were either maximum saucepans with a machine gun, or completely empty ones, there weren’t even provisions for pots (and you look on the street, people actually take these pans).

Driving around the city in 3rd gear it goes from 40 to 70, you don’t need to quickly tuck in 2nd or twist until it rings before 4th. I got used to the gearshift lever instantly, the moves are short but clear - I never missed a beat in speed.

The handle is comfortable, allowing both a regular overhand grip and a joystick grip. The clutch picks up smoothly, almost like an automatic. If you don’t specifically set yourself such a goal, then moving off with a jerk or slipping will not work. The gap itself during which the clutch engages is long, you let go, it seems that everything is off, you drop the pedal, and it still makes a jerk, i.e. Before this, it was not completely released. When starting uphill, the anti-rollback is activated and holds the brake in both forward and reverse gears.

I tried handsfree, it attaches easily, shows contacts and calls on the radio (NOT multimedia).

I installed an alarm with auto start, it shows the temperature in the cabin and the engine.

The engine cools down slowly; on Kalina, after an hour of parking, it showed the street temperature. I don’t know what this is due to, better thermal insulation or a different location for installing the sensor. The lack of a temperature indicator on the dashboard is annoying!

The electrics are well made; when the starter is turned on, other consumers are turned off - music, stove.

Visibility, dimensions and light

Visibility of the vehicle is excellent, it is much better than in Astra. In my previous car there were problems with this, I even almost had an accident. The mirrors are not bad, the X-Ray has built-in repeaters - this is a plus.

As for the dimensions of the car, my opinion is subjective. I don’t like big cars and I don’t like being cramped with other passengers, so I prefer small hatchbacks, which, alas, are not very popular in our market. Astra was big for me. Its width and poor visibility combined with small clearance created significant restrictions when choosing a parking space. X-Ray is an ideal option for me in this regard.

In front there is exactly enough space for two people to stay comfortably, and no more. For me, there is enough space in the back, but it can be a bit cramped for three passengers. X-Ray Prestige has ideal conditions for my needs.

As for the light, there are LED DRLs, they are bright and visible from afar. Rear optics - parity. For visibility and the size of the vehicle, solely in my subjective opinion, I give it a big plus.

First five-color game

Representatives of AvtoVAZ said that the first batch will include cars of five different colors. Previously, this range was already used in the production of cars from the concern, but in the future the palette will be significantly expanded. The most important thing is to provide the first variety for the buyer, and if things go well, then an increase in the number of colors will not be long in coming.

The designers did not support the idea of choosing an exclusive color for the Lada X Ray, as they did for the Vesta, so the first cars will leave the assembly line in gray-beige (basalt gray), white (glacial), black metallic (black pearl), red (fiery), silver - beige (platinum). The color range of the Lada X Rey, as you can see, is quite wide at first.

Painting will be carried out in accordance with international standards, which will significantly increase the competitiveness of cars. The thickness of the Lada X-RAY coating will be calculated in microns; today it is in the range of 75-106 microns. More than half of the cars on the market have such indicators.

Driving does not evoke any vivid emotions. One hundred and six forces are almost completely dissolved in the transmission - the VAZ robot is thoughtful during shifts. However, this is a characteristic feature of all transmissions of this type. A modern automatic or dual-clutch transmission would solve the problem, but it is fantastically expensive.

And in terms of acoustic comfort, the Cross is far from ideal: the engine is well insulated, but the “noise” of the arches and bottom is unimportant, and extraneous sounds are heard through the door seals.

In general, you won’t get any fervent drive from Kalina. But how good it is in our “directions”, be it broken asphalt or a primer! Easily “smoothes out” small irregularities and allows you to confidently rush through the pits. I wish I could “untie” the steering wheel from the road! He, like Lifan, receives noticeable shocks.

As you understand, Kalina is also not without its shortcomings, but it leaves a slightly more subtle aftertaste, which is well worth the additional payment of 20 thousand rubles. And if you take a car with a manual transmission, then the price difference with Lifan will completely disappear.

E - Riding

The French Renault JR5-523 gearbox is not distinguished by clear shifts.

Thanks to such extensive improvements, the XRAY Cross drove completely differently. The steering wheel has acquired a super-clear zero, the removal from which requires the application of significant force, while the return action sometimes seems almost excessive. But I like the character of the steering wheel: it makes the driving process delicious. At the same time, Lada holds a straight line perfectly and does not show nervousness in a rut. At some moments, I even caught myself that I liked the handling of this Xray more than that of the Vesta Cross, which I left in the garage while going on a business trip to Kazakhstan. And the pseudo-crossover rolls extremely moderately, even despite the higher landing compared to both Vesta and the regular Xray.

The ride quality improves as the road gets worse. On smooth asphalt, small high-frequency tremors are almost constantly felt, but the crossover rushes along a broken grader with an steadfastness worthy of a classic Niva. The energy intensity is almost prohibitive: on a very conventional road laid in the steppe, the XRAY Cross allows you to maintain a speed of about a hundred according to the speedometer and not let off the gas in front of very serious potholes.

I also tried various modes of the Lada Ride Select system and was overall satisfied. The Sport mode adds liveliness to the car's response to the accelerator, and the engine is in no hurry to slow down when releasing the gas, allowing it to be picked up by the next gear.

I tested the “sand” mode in the steppe, after leaving the main road; however, here it was easier to feel the operation of the electronic differential lock, which turned out to be truly effective: when hanging up, the stabilization system “bites” the wheel free of traction with the ground and still pulls the car from its place.

And the next day it was the turn of the mode for driving in the snow, when the Kazakh skies opened up and dropped a sufficient amount of material for experiments on the ground. If on the sand the electronics allow a certain amount of wheel slip, then the winter mode turns out to be the strictest: it strangles the engine even more diligently than by default and does not allow even the slightest slip. And the system works: on a climb, the “snowflake” on the selector adds confidence when starting from a standstill.

Not everything is so rosy

Along with visible advantages, the domestic car LADA X-RAY has shortcomings and pronounced disadvantages.

Owners complain about the following typical problems with the model:

Robotic gearbox with one clutch.
According to many car enthusiasts and experts, this unit is the most problematic. Initially, the biggest drawback was the very short service life of the clutch. Recently, manufacturers installed a reinforced unit, but they could not get rid of the problems. The lack of another mechanical alternative discourages potential buyers.
Many complaints are caused by the cramped interior of the car, which is noticeably noticeable even when compared with the Lada Vesta model.
The lack of free space is felt both behind the wheel and in the back row. Regardless of height, every passenger here feels tightness in their knees. In addition, criticism is caused by the lack of modern amenities inside the cabin. There is no comfortable armrest for the driver, illumination of the rear row of seats, cruise control function, heated steering wheel and seats.
Narrow pedal assembly.
The pedals of this car cause complaints from most drivers. The unit, transferred from French cars, is so narrow that when driving a car you can easily confuse the gas and brake pedals. At the same time, the manufacturer does not intend to finalize the design in the near future.
An increase in the level of passive safety is achieved by a certain width of the racks. Due to the small dimensions of the body, this factor negatively affects the level of visibility from the car interior. This is caused by the proximity of the pillars to the driver.
The lack of all-wheel drive is often considered a disadvantage of the X-RAY model. It is especially lacking against the backdrop of the relatively high ground clearance. The manufacturer is in no hurry to fix this problem.

Thus, this car is quite controversial. It has both advantages and disadvantages. Nevertheless, the majority of domestic owners of the LADA X-RAY model are satisfied with this car.

Lada X-Ray: color scheme

The color scheme of the new Lada Xray, which went on sale quite recently, promises to be complemented by all sorts of shades. Most of the colors in which the Lada X-Ray will be produced in the future will have a metallic effect, which is a kind of revolution in Russian automobile production. This approach to the color design of the car body indicates that AvtoVAZ has reached a new level, which will allow it to seriously compete with foreign manufacturers with a global reputation. Many new techniques and the use of today's current technologies when painting the Lada X-Ray will be able to impress even the most fastidious buyer.

The Lada Xray body is painted using cataphoresis. The use of this technology makes it possible to make the coating much stronger; therefore, the car owner will receive reliable corrosion protection for his car, which is much better than that of previous Lada models. The use of new technologies when painting Xray will significantly extend the service life of the coating, as well as increase its resistance to corrosion under the influence of various external factors, including weather conditions and physical impact.

Puma color is the most suitable color option for a crossover. It is not easily soiled and looks stylish. This color is aimed at the widest consumer audience; it is completely universal and will suit everyone, from young people to retirees.
Fresh color is a bright and catchy youth version of the Lada X-Ray. It is obvious that the target consumer audience of this car is young people and girls who like to emphasize their individuality with catchy shades. This color is experimental and even revolutionary for Russia.

Properties of the coating of the new Lada

Xray painting is carried out in compliance with the latest world standards and rules for its implementation. Thanks to this, the competitiveness of the new Russian car increases significantly and takes AvtoVAZ to a new level. The thickness of the coating applied to X-Ray will range between 75 and 106 microns. This indicator once again emphasizes the high quality of new Russian products.

AvtoVAZ carried out serious work to select the technology for applying paint to the Lada X-Ray and preparing the body for its application. The task was complicated by Russian climatic conditions, which make specific adjustments to all processes of creating a car. Before painting, Xray goes through the following preparatory steps:

the metal on which the paint is applied is subject to mandatory galvanization;
Galvanized metal is carefully treated with wax.

Red “Fire”
When painting, high quality enamel is used, resistant to low and contrasting temperatures. The type of coating is selected as carefully as possible for Russian climatic conditions.

How high quality is the coating?

If you compare the thickness of the Xray paint coating with the thickness of the coating on other Russian cars, the answer to this question will become obvious. Let us remind you that the thickness of the paint layer on Xray is 75-160 microns. On the Lada Granta this same figure does not exceed 100 microns, and on the Lada Kalina it does not rise above 90 microns. The only Russian car that can compete with X-Ray in this matter is the Lada Vesta.

Based on the above figures, we can conclude that the Xray coating will be truly high-quality and reliable. The car will be able to effectively resist corrosion and other negative environmental factors and Russian weather conditions. The likelihood of chipping will be significantly lower.

Bottom line

Lada Xray has a fairly diverse range of colors that can satisfy the needs of all segments of the population. Certain shades of the Lada crossover are more suitable for young people, others for older age groups. Also, the X Ray color scheme has options that will appeal to women.

The engine lives up to its stated power—acceleration is brisk. It's a pity that after 4000 rpm his enthusiasm sours. The gears are selected well, the shifting mechanism is quite accurate - no problems. And everything is not bad with the brakes (Lifan was the only one in the test with rear disc mechanisms). The mediocre information content of the drive prevented us from receiving a higher rating.

The X50 is not afraid of broken roads, except that the vibrations transmitted to the steering wheel are too much. But you need to be careful: the engine oil pan and the gearbox housing are not covered with anything. And actively turning the steering wheel is contraindicated - during the test, the front wheels repeatedly clung to the arches.

In general, everything is more or less. With the exception of sound insulation, it seems to be completely absent. At any speed, be it 40 or 140 km/h, you can hear absolutely everything except your own voice. The engine growls, the gearbox shift mechanism clicks. But a pebble flew out from under the wheel into the arch and... I think I heard it plop onto the road.

Conclusion? It is quite possible to consume Chinese cars, seduced by colorful packaging and a pleasant price tag. This might work.

Compare Kalina Cross and Lada X-Ray

Once again I am convinced of the correctness of the phrase: “The car that is new is better”, this smell of a new car (plastic and upholstery),

the first kilometers on the odometer.

Now about the cons

1) High-revving 16-valve engine: on the highway the car flies easily, but from the bottom it doesn’t go very well. When I get into my 8 valve Kalina, after the X-Ray the thrill is that the car drives easily from the bottom. 2) The first gear is short and incomprehensible, sometimes it feels like it is made like a truck, so that you can start only in the second XD))) 3) There are crickets (AvtoVAZ is nowhere without this) 4) The sound of the standard speakers is rather weak. 5) When the ignition is turned off, the radio turns off, if after that you turn it on again, it works for about 15 minutes then turns off again (what about summer, barbecues, nature, when the car is parked with music for general fun)

Well, something like this, these are my impressions, of course, someone may not share them, but how many people have so many opinions.

Once I was standing at a magnet in Khvalynsk, and a family, husband, wife and child, came up, cheerful and happy, saying that tomorrow we ourselves would go for X-Ray. And so the neighbors keep saying what kind of car this is, but they don’t believe the answer that it’s like a Zhiguli. Kalina and Granta caused the same impressions in people, who bought them as soon as AvtoVAZ launched their production. Friends of the family took the X-Ray with us, in the same configuration only the Basalt color, they transferred emotions to it from the Priors, too, so far only positive ugh. Ugh…

Experience in operating cars: my father’s IZH-412, still with an iron torpedo, and he already has his own car, Kalina, for more than 5 years.

I took Kalina to the next maintenance and decided at the same time to see what the dealer had.

After a couple of months I decided to update my car.

I was waiting for the release of Chevy Niva 2, but it didn’t happen.

I was waiting for the West station wagon 1.8 by the fall, but that didn’t happen either.

I took a ride on the rapid, the machine was ok. But in an acceptable configuration it cost more, and that’s with 90 hp. engine,

I haven’t looked at a used one, I can’t drag it from an auction, and I have no desire to deal with hucksters.

I also happened to take a ride in a new Logan taxi, which I liked more than the Ford Focus in the same taxi, and the platform, as you know, is one with a yardarm.

In general, the choice finally fell on the yard. I also rode it. At maximum speed, the interior was no longer dull, plus the plant threatened to release the 1.8 version with fur.

Lada X-Ray (63 photos)

The AvtoVAZ concern, located in the city of Tolyatti, presented a new B-class crossover to domestic car enthusiasts more than four years ago. Since then, interest in this “high hatchback” has not diminished.

Strict lines, engine power, high safety of the car of this model, energy intensity and excellent handling are the main features adopted from the prototype - Renault Sandero.
