Later, the family will be replenished with the elevated Lada Granta Cross station wagon (a new version of the previous Kalina Cross) and sports modifications of the Granta Sport in sedan and hatchback bodies. In the long term, it is possible that a “warmed-up” liftback with the Sport prefix will enter the market, but so far AvtoVAZ is silent on this matter.

At the same time, some other improvements were made - the washer nozzles moved from the surface of the hood to the panel in front of the windshield, and new soft fender liners appeared in the wheel arches, which better absorb the impacts of gravel flying out from under the wheels and also do not absorb moisture.

To accurately select paint for the desired “metallic” effect, any color matching system includes several types of silver, differing both in the shape and size of the particles, and in the degree of shine of an individual particle.
Based on their shape, particles are divided into two main groups: particles of irregular and regular shape. The former are usually called “cornflake”, the latter – “silver dollar”.

Irregular silver is most often used in older plating formulas. When examined under a microscope, it is clear that these particles actually resemble corn flakes in appearance and have ragged edges. Back in the early days of the metallic era, aluminum was ground up and added to paint without any further processing. Such components scatter light quite strongly and look dull in paint.
The silver dollar particles appear more uniform and do not have jagged edges - this is a result of additional processing of aluminum at the factory. Such particles are like small polished metal mirrors, they reflect light much better, and are a striking example of technological progress in the production of automotive paints.
The difference between different types of silver is clearly visible when comparing old and new cars. For example, if we compare basically the same colors of cars, say, 1975 and 2005, we will see an interesting difference: on an old car the color is more gray and nondescript, while a “fresh” car looks much more elegant and attractive. The “new” paint reflects light better, has more shine and sparkle.
Innovations in the interior
The interior of any Grant now has a front panel from Kalina with revised decor of individual elements. Thus, the central rectangular deflectors have an X-shaped design, and the round side deflectors have a chrome edging. Other metamorphoses include changed button backlighting (from green to white), updated dashboard design (the scales now have orange rims, like Vesta’s), and a different pattern of decorative overlays on the panel.

The list of improvements does not end there. All variations of the 2018-2019 Lada Granta have seats with new upholstery and more developed lateral support bolsters. Also, the driver’s seat, albeit only in rich trim levels, is now equipped with a height adjustment mechanism that allows you to raise and lower the seat by 40 mm. The head restraints on the Grant seats have become larger and more comfortable.
Flop effect
So, the main feature of metallics is the manifestation of an element of metallic shine on the paintwork. But the “effectiveness” of these paints does not end there.
If you look at a metallic-painted car from different angles, you can clearly see that this shine is not constant - its intensity either decreases or increases. Indeed, any “metallic” looks different depending on the viewing angle: at some point the coating glows brightly, sparkles, and then gradually darkens as the viewing angle changes (for example, when a car turns). These changes, from light to dark and back again, are called the flop effect.
Let's try to figure out why this happens.
As we have already said, the surface of a metal pigment plays the role of a mirror that reflects light rays incident on it according to the laws of geometric optics (the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence). And if the aluminum particles are located in the paint layer as needed, that is, parallel to the surface, then when viewed from the front, the paint is perceived as lighter, since in this case we see more light reflected by the grain.
If you look at the surface from the side, at an acute angle, the intensity of the reflected light decreases greatly and the paint is perceived as darker. In this case, reflection from color pigments predominates.
Technical characteristics of Lada Granta restyling 2018-2019
The update did not affect the Granta engine range. The model's arsenal includes the same petrol units:
- Eight-valve 1.6 liter (87 hp, 140 Nm);
- Sixteen-valve engine 1.6 liters (98 hp, 145 Nm);
- 1.6 liter engine with output of 106 hp. and 148 hp
The “junior” unit comes with a 5-speed manual transmission, the middle one is equipped with a 4-speed Jatco “automatic”, the “senior” one works in conjunction with either a manual transmission or an AMT robotic gearbox.
If the engines have remained virtually unchanged structurally (the only innovation is a groove on the pistons to minimize damage if the timing belt breaks), then the Tolyatti engineers have done a fair amount of work on the transmission. The first innovation concerns cars with manual transmission and AMT - their main gear ratio has increased from 3.7 to 3.9. This has affected the dynamic characteristics: four-door cars with an 87-horsepower engine now accelerate to 100 km/h in 11.6 seconds (previously 12.2 seconds), sedans with a 106-horsepower unit and a manual transmission in 10.5 seconds (previously 10.9 seconds).
“Robot” AMT received its share of improvements. Now he has a “creeping” mode, which allows the car to move off when the brake pedal is released. The manual transmission is also equipped with “Winter” (start from second gear on snowy roads) and “Sport” (faster gear changes) modes. The clutch of the robotic transmission has become more resistant to wear, and the box itself is now much quieter.
To top it all off, in order to improve handling, the new Granta was given shock absorbers and electric power steering with different settings.
If at the start of its production, the Lada Granta model could boast of only a few popular colors, then in recent years AvtoVAZ has stepped forward in this matter. For example, Lada Granta color Coriander (code 790) is quite popular among people. In common parlance it is brown or golden brown.
How to find out the color of a VAZ car
The label with the body color number of domestic cars can be found on the trunk lid, in the glove compartment, in the spare tire niche near the spare wheel or under it, under the brake light on the spoiler.
