On the second darkened glass, along the very edge, you need to stick an additional narrow ribbon made of madeline. This tape is attached to prevent the glass from moving over each other and rubbing against each other. You can stick a film on the outside of the new glass, but this is less aesthetically pleasing.

The electromechanical part of the lifts does not differ fundamentally between different cars. However, in order to install additional glass with your own hands, you must have at least minimal experience in disassembling and assembling doors, as well as installing and adjusting lifting mechanisms. You shouldn't take on this job if you can't do simpler things.

The essence of double tinting is to install a second glass that will be darkened. This glass runs parallel to the main glass. The installation process may look like this:

• gluing the film onto additional glass, which completely matches the main glass;
• complete disassembly of the door (removal of button panels, handles, door card);
• installing the second glass and checking its progress;
• installation of an electric window regulator and its connection via the keypad;
• assembly of the mechanical part of the window regulator;
• testing the operation of power windows with door cards removed;
• door assembly.

Another way to prepare for installing automatic tint yourself is to see what the finished option looks like with your own eyes. Today, many people have double tinting in their cars. Surely there are people like you among your friends. If they decide to disassemble the doors to lubricate the mechanisms, then you can personally participate in this.

But believe me, it is not at all necessary to practice on an old door taken from disassembly, or to study the work of an already existing double tinting. Start slowly disassembling the door of your car and make sure that there is nothing complicated in it. And don't be intimidated by the wiring harnesses that go to the keypad. You only need two wires supplying 12V current.

Do not connect additional glass through an alarm system with a window closing function. It is better to be able to leave the tint in the lower position, because... this may come in handy in certain situations.

Tinting process

Automatic tinting is performed as follows. All necessary installation kit is purchased and installed in the door. Such experiments are usually carried out by “garage technicians”. Installation requires minimal knowledge of electronics and the ability to disassemble doors.

• tint film;
• four sets of automatic windows: cables, buttons;
• epoxide;
• shafts;
• Madeleine;
• small parts.

If you have never carried out such installations before, it is not recommended to immediately begin disassembling the car and, in particular, the front door. A good training base would be an old door purchased from dismantling. Installation of the second set of window regulators occurs by extending the shaft. Due to the design features, the outer glass will not lower all the way, since the cable will be shorter.

Important: automatic tinting is carried out with glasses of the same brand as the original ones.

The film is applied to the inner glass from the outside. If you cover the inside, the light transmittance and, accordingly, visibility will significantly decrease. But from the street a real mirror effect will be created. When conducting such experiments, one should not forget about the issue of road safety. Carrying out the wrap will be easier than with regular car tinting. The glass has been removed, and it is easier to make a pattern along its contour. It is also more convenient to stretch, expel and dry the material. After the film has completely dried, it is necessary to glue a layer of madeline onto the side covered with the film. Since the glass is installed in a groove designed for only one glass. In order to avoid grinding and scratches, it is necessary to create a layer of at least 1 mm. Madeline is a self-adhesive tape that covers the glass along the contour and prevents friction.

Automatic tinting involves gluing the inner glass according to the standard scheme:

1. The required piece of material is cut out according to the contour and dimensions of the glass. When the glass is removed, you can do without cutting the pattern and speed up the process.
2. Next, the side to be tinted is cleaned and degreased.
3. Afterwards, apply the mile solution using a spray bottle.
4. Within a few seconds, a film is glued to the soapy glass.
5. A rubber, hard scraper is used to force the film to size. In this case, the edges are covered with medellin, so the film will not reach the edge by 1-2 mm.
6. A household or hair dryer will speed up the glass drying process. Before installation, it is important that the film is completely dry and does not deform during installation.

About the disadvantages of double glazing

It is worth considering the disadvantages that double windows on the VAZ 2114 have:

1. Sometimes there is increased glass rattling and scratches.
2. During installation, you have to remove the door reinforcement, which is not particularly safe.
3. It is not possible to open two windows together. You can only open them one by one, and it is important not to confuse the buttons. In addition, you need to understand that the outer glass will not be able to open 100 percent.
4. The weight of the door almost doubles, which causes increased load on the hinges. Therefore, you will have to adjust the lock quite often. You may encounter cracks on the hinges.

The inclusion is necessary in order to reflect sunlight, it prevents such a phenomenon as overheating of the interior.

Is a second tinted glass allowed?

Tinting using crystals is a new technology that is just beginning to enter the Russian market, so it’s difficult to find where to install electric tint. Two ways of such tinting

As mentioned above, the installation process involves two methods. The first of them, called electortonation, implies the following:

• two polymer layers of transparent film are taken, and inside them there are liquid crystals that have a certain polarity;
• when voltage is applied, the crystals are polarized and the glass becomes transparent;
• when there is no voltage, the glass becomes tinted.

As for the color of the tint, it can be different: gray, white, with a blue tint, dark gray, etc.

This type of tinting, which uses crystals, is relatively new and little known in our country. But it has many advantages. It is almost impossible to install this type of tinting in services in our country, since we do not yet have such specialists, but you can do it with your own hands without worry. And, finding a master who would do the work for you will not be cheap. According to some drivers who managed to find a specialist at a car service center who installed such glazing for them, it cost them about 20 thousand rubles. Installing double glass on a vase is a more well-known procedure in our country. Also, it has several ways of carrying out. Let's look at the first one first. This method involves installing an additional window lifter (see Installing window lifters yourself) with a slightly longer cable. As mentioned above, to install it you need to use a 10mm hexagon with an internal thread at the top, and at the bottom make a fastener in the form of the letter T, the base of which is mounted to the door itself. The electric window regulator is extended by a plate and is attached with two bolts to the bottom of the door. As for the glass itself, the door will no longer have PET, as in the first case, but two glasses. That's why the process is called double glazing. The standard glass remains on the outside and is not tinted, but the second one, which is already located on the interior side, will be tinted. It will go all the way down. The second glass is the usual standard one, but modified. How to do it? There is nothing simpler:

• take a special tool and cut the glass from the bottom;
• we do this so that the corner of the cut glass is visible from the interior;
• leave the distance between the glasses about 1 mm (this is done so that both glasses do not come into contact with each other);
• To avoid scratches, the glass is also coated with “Modelin” anti-screen.

Note. We apply modelin edging only on tinted glass, that is, on the inner glass, while the standard glass remains untouched. But where the standard glass is inserted into the mount, it needs to be covered with model film.

• We are replacing the standard glass guides with Priorovsky ones, since they have more space in the velvet.

Important. If the door had sound insulation inside, it will need to be removed, although not completely. Otherwise, it will interfere with the normal installation of auto-tinting.

• cut out a small piece from the door reinforcement (after installing the second glass, the door will not have a reinforcement).

Some important points to consider:

• the tinted glass, located on the interior side, when lowered, is practically invisible from the outside (you only notice it if you look closely);
• it is not recommended to lower the standard glass on the outside in front of the tinted one, as it can scratch the inside;
• The car door will become much heavier after installing double glazing (this must be taken into account);
• glass controls should be separate - each glass has a separate button;
• You can clean the space of one millimeter between the glasses, where dust gets clogged, by spreading them with your hands and inserting a thin vacuum cleaner hose there;
• If scratches appear on the driver's glass, it means the film is scratched and will need to be replaced and thoroughly checked to see if anything is scratching or clinging to the glass.

The approximate amount of money that will be spent on auto-tinting windows is equal to the price of 10 thousand rubles. And you can even buy a double-glazed window entirely and install it yourself.
