  • install the steering mechanism on the chassis;
  • calculate and install a rocker that allows you to change gears;

  • carry out final assembly and test the functionality of the structure;
  • eliminate detected faults and modify the all-terrain vehicle.

All-wheel drive Oka

To create this unique all-terrain vehicle, donors such as Oka, which habitually donated its body, UAZ, which donated strong axles to the SUV, and Niva with its durable transfer case, were used.

As for the features of the assembly, among them it is worth highlighting the wheels with tires from KrAZ, spaced from the body, mounted on discs with an offset, springs from the Volga cut into two leaves and its steering, which, although it did not give light turns, but cost zero, in contrast to the previously planned expensive hydraulic booster.

There were also weaknesses, which turned out to be CV joints that quickly fail, as a result of which the owner always has to carry a spare tire with him.

Spare parts and materials used:

  • Engine and gearbox from Oka.
  • Bridges from UAZ.
  • Transfer case from Niva.
  • Wheels from Kraz.
  • Steering and springs from Volga.
  • Square pipe 50*50*2.5 mm - 20 meters.
  • Sheet metal.

I installed the springs from Volga, initially the springs contained five leaves, but two leaves were removed and, as it turned out later, it was in vain, it was necessary to leave all five. Shock absorbers from Niva.

The photo shows a homemade adapter for connecting the UAZ cardan with the Niva razdatka. It’s done this way, we take 2 flanges from a UAZ and a Niva, cut off the working part of the oil seal from the Nivovsk, connect the flanges with the reverse sides and weld them together, you get an adapter.

I painted the frame and bridges and installed the engine. The differential in the box is welded, the Okovskaya “grenade” is cut off and a flange for the Nivovsky cardan is welded to it.

I installed a Volga steering wheel, it’s a little hard to steer, and over time I’ll need to install a hydraulic booster.

Since the fit of the wheels on the UAZ bridges is a bit narrow, I decided to make the wheel rims with an offset to space the wheels further away from the body. This is necessary so that the turning radius of the front wheels is sufficient.

Siberian fisherman created KamAZOka

An avid fisherman, Alexander Yutkin, from the village of Suzun, Novosibirsk Region, got the idea to create a car in which he can go fishing in any weather, not only along the lake shore, but also on the ice. Part of the new monster truck was the far from all-terrain Oka.

The body was borrowed from it. Yutkin took the wheels from KamAZ. With an initial weight of 80 kg, they were lightened to 20 kg. The chassis was assembled from Japanese parts.

Alexander worked on the creation of KamAZOka for 3 months, spending 150 thousand rubles on spare parts. The all-terrain vehicle weighs about 1 ton, width – 2.18 m, ground clearance – 42 cm. With snow height of half a meter on virgin soil, the “beast” moves calmly.

The wheel works like a caterpillar, that is, it does not push the snow in front of it, but moves onto it and continues to move. The all-terrain vehicle can accelerate to 50 km/h. It is easy to drive thanks to a number of low gears and power steering.

Other small-scale Oka power units

Only VAZ 1111 and VAZ 11113 engines were serially installed on the car. It was with these power units that the car was supplied to retail chains.

As options to save production and meet environmental requirements, both SeAZ and KAMAZ tried to use power units from other manufacturers. This was due to the fact that AvtoVAZ refused to continue producing minicars and actually stopped supplying power units to complete the car.

So in 2004, a trial series of cars with a Korean Hyundai Atos engine was produced. 15 cars were produced for trial testing, but the program did not go into series.

Also this year, small-scale tests were carried out at SeAZ of cars with engines from the Melitopol plant MeMZ 245. The car was called OKA-Astro and was subsequently produced in small series at the Kamov automobile assembly plant. Another version of the Ukrainian power unit was MeMZ 247.1. One checked the numbers - no questions. I drive it into the “pit” - the second one starts to shake the tips. Before he had time to go down, he probably noticed a toothy pulley, when a champagne cork flew out with the demand: “Open the hood.” Then it was interesting to watch his actions. The first thing I noticed was the air filter. Slowly the gaze begins to move along the corrugation and stops at the receiver. Silent pause. Then the phrase: “What is this?” I begin to explain. Useless. As you can guess, I didn’t pass THAT day. I came home, started studying the issue, and it’s true that a lot of paperwork is required, including the conclusion of an authorized expert organization. Time was running out, so the next day I came back to MOT. I had to “cheat” - overnight I made a transitional version: a carburetor with a throttle position sensor, and a microprocessor ignition system (the same brains from the injector, with a slight adjustment to the firmware). No one noticed the difference. The CO was strangled with a screw on the carb, and the CH was “finished off” with a mad spark. Their device has never shown such numbers. In the evening I drove the injector again, but with a “ticket”. Thanks to this situation, this document was born for submission to NAMI, but again, thanks to the ineradicable bureaucracy of our traffic police leadership, the alteration was not legalized.

Oka tuning should still begin with the power unit - the factory assembly and adjustment of the engine of a cheap car is clearly “lame”, hence the need for engine overhaul and proper adjustment. True Oka fans can afford major engine tuning, including modification of the cylinder head, replacement of the carburetor with a DAAZ-21073, also modified and “adjusted” to the volume and compression ratio of the Oka engine. To take advantage of the new carburetor, a K&N air filter and a different camshaft are installed on the car. It is also necessary to modify the intake and exhaust channels, valve seats, and change the shape of the combustion chamber.

The work is painstaking and specialists will certainly not undertake to do it for cheap, but the tuned native Oka engine will clearly give the car owner new sensations from his miniature car: although the speed indicators do not increase much, the acceleration characteristics are noticeably improved, which will please the driver on busy city roads when overtaking, and You will also be pleasantly surprised by the engine sound, which has changed due to the sports air filter, with such aggressive notes. However, for some Oka owners this is not enough, and so the two-cylinder engine leaves the engine compartment, and its place is taken by a 1.3-liter Rover engine with multipoint injection. And if we also add the Rover gearbox, which, due to correctly selected gear ratios, ensures clear gear shifting and smooth acceleration, and also improves the chassis using spare parts (including brakes) taken from front-wheel drive VAZ Samaras, then we get a very decent English-Russian minicar option.

After finalizing the power unit, the next stage of Oka tuning should be a step to eliminate the property of this car to shake and transmit to the driver all the irregularities of our “beautiful” roads. It is possible to improve the handling and make the car ride more smoothly due to the following tuning of the Oka: replacing the serial shock absorbers with Dutch Koni ones mounted in the front and rear suspensions, it is better to replace the standard Bi-308 tires with Korean Kumho 135/80 R12 tires of the same size.

However, if you don’t save money, you can give the car a solid look with Fast Wheels alloy wheels and Goodyear tires measuring 155/65 R13. You can also install fourteen-inch wheels, however, in this case you will have to move the rear bumper back five centimeters, the front bumper accordingly forward by the same amount so that the wheels fit in the arches; with such a rearrangement, they will not scratch the locker when cornering, much less arch. These 14-inch wheels will please those who often ride outside the city on dirt roads.

Stylish wheels and other chassis modifications

Many car enthusiasts like to drive on splayed wheels, so the VAZ 11113 Oka tuning widens the car's track by 150 mm and enlarges the arches to accommodate larger diameter wheels.
