The compressor for the injection VAZ 2107 is the right decision!

Lada 2101 Tazi Ruleat › Logbook › Compressor or turbine? Installation on classic vases

The features of a traditional carburetor engine are such that it is very difficult to install a turbine on it. This is very expensive, and the alterations will take hundreds of man-hours. Why is that? I explain:

Installing a turbine on a VAZ 2106.

1. Unlike a compressor, when installing a turbine on a VAZ, you definitely need an intercooler. An intercooler is something like a radiator, only for cooling the air. With a greater increase in pressure created by the turbine and several other reasons, the air heats up. As we know from the physics course, heated air takes up much more volume than cool air. Hence the problem: it turns out that the turbine worked practically in vain - the volume of air remained almost the same. Naturally, there will be an effect without an intercooler, but much less than with it.

2. Unlike a compressor, it is not safe to place a turbine on a carburetor. The pressure is extremely high and there can be a bang through the exhaust manifold, causing the hood to fly off. On an injection engine, the intake method is fundamentally different, and a turbine is a more desirable option, although more expensive.

3. The third follows from the second. If we want to put

turbine - you will have to convert the engine into an injection one, or purchase one. Fortunately, at the moment this is not a problem and there are plenty of options for traditional injection engines.

But all this costs a lot of money, and at the low price of traditional vases it can cost as much as 2 – 3 cars or a foreign car. Think about it, it’s worth the effort, but to get away from traffic lights, all you need is a compressor and a carburetor engine. I’m not saying that people don’t install turbines on a VAZ 2106 with a carburetor - they still do, but it’s either poorly or incorrectly manufactured, or not cheap, or they are experienced car mechanics with the availability of suitable parts.

Compressor (charger) for a carburetor on a VAZ.

1. Compressor

, unlike a turbine, does not develop high pressure

2. Installing an intercooler is not inevitable

3. Installed on a VAZ carburetor!

So, the first most common option is to buy a ready-made kit for the VAZ 2106, VAZ 2107 - a carburetor classic.

There are some available on www.kartuning.ru, at a cost of about 30,000 rubles. Naturally, modifications to the engine will also be useful, but it is not as significant as when installing a turbine. The increase in engine power with a compressor boost of 0.5 bar will be up to 50%.

For the injection "seven"

What are the advantages of a supercharger for a VAZ 2107 with an injector? When compared with turbocharging systems, an injector compressor has many advantages. In particular, we are talking about the following advantages:

  • compressor for VAZ 2107 injector does not allow the engine to overheat during its operation;
  • the vehicle compressor increases its activity simultaneously with an increase in engine speed;
  • The operation of this device does not require external intervention.

Compressor for 2107 injector

It should be noted that the last point is especially relevant for domestic vehicles equipped with an injector. This is due to the relatively complex design of the motor. Actually, like any other device, a compressor can have its drawbacks. In particular, we are talking about reducing the efficiency of the motor. This is due to the increased power consumption that is generated during the operation of the motor.

Another important disadvantage is the large size of the supercharger. As a rule, such devices are very bulky, which causes certain difficulties with its installation. Also, some car owners of the VAZ 2107 injector may not appreciate the loud sound that the supercharger makes during operation. In addition, it should be added that for normal installation of the device, in most cases it is necessary to purchase a special drive. Actually, if you do not have the skills to install superchargers, then you may have certain problems, unlike installing a compressor on a carburetor.

Installation

In most cases, cylinder heads and pistons are replaced before installation to reduce compression levels. Also, most often it is necessary to change the lubricant supply; injection will require a special control system and a special enlarged receiver. A detailed description of installation and preparatory work is usually contained in the instructions for the Kits.

The compressor for the VAZ 2114 8kl is installed above the drive, between the receiving pipe and the exhaust manifold. It is located above the right wheel. One of the connecting pipes is connected to the air filter, and the second to the receiver.

After installing the compressor, monitoring the oil level, belt tension, and condition of the spark plugs is more difficult than on a conventional car.

Turbocharger for carburetor VAZ 2107

Installed turbine on a VAZ

The very principle of operation of a turbocharger is to pump processed and compressed oxygen into the combustion chamber. This, in turn, provokes the formation of a larger amount of combustible mixture, which allows increasing the power of the power unit. Often the turbocharger is installed between the intake manifold and the pipe. Gases that have been processed at the exit from the combustion chambers contribute to the rotation of the turbine, which is connected to the compressor. The compressor itself releases air into the engine cylinders. As for the direct quality of the turbocharger, it directly depends on how much fuel was processed. In other words, the faster you go, the higher your gas mileage.

As for the benefits:

  • a turbocharger for a VAZ 2107 with a carburetor is relatively light in weight;
  • the turbocharger can be adjusted depending on the need for any engine and for any type of carburetor;
  • the turbocharger can be mounted on an already tuned engine;
  • the installation of a turbocharger will not in any way affect the further modernization of the vehicle;
  • The device can be installed on a motor of any size.

Disassembled turbine

It should also be noted that several types of turbochargers can be found on the domestic automobile market. The first is a low pressure turbine. It has a lower price, and its installation can be carried out without making any changes to the design of the machine. This, in turn, saves a lot of money.

You can also purchase a high pressure compressor. Installing such a device involves upgrading the main components of a vehicle with a carburetor and requires large financial investments. To install such a turbocharger, you will need to redo the exhaust system, as well as the injection system. In addition, you will need to tune the engine itself. But the car will be more sporty, maneuverable and dynamic.

Types of compressors

The compressors that are installed on the VAZ 2114 are divided into units from other cars, purchased at car dismantling yards (for example, from Toyota, Subaru, Mercedes, etc.) and mass-produced units.

How to choose a unit from a donor

The unit must match your machine with the following characteristics:

  • maximum supercharger speed;
  • performance;
  • volume;
  • pipe diameters;
  • weight;
  • dimensions;
  • maximum overpressure.

Also, when choosing, take into account such parameters as the need to supply coolant to the unit from the standard machine system and the presence/absence of its own lubrication supply system.

If you decide to install a compressor from a donor, you must:

  1. Decide on mounting methods and compressor drive.
  2. Calculate the performance of the fuel system.
  3. Find out what modifications the engine will need (lowering the compression ratio, etc.).
  4. Make piping by adding a bypass valve (“bypass valve”).
  5. Carry out chip tuning to adjust the internal combustion engine control systems to new parameters (it may be necessary to replace the engine braid for DBP and DTV).

Many other factors are also taken into account, which depend on the selected unit and the owner’s requirements. Thus, in addition to the compressor, you will need certain fasteners, individual chip tuning, selection of studs, pipes and belts, etc. In addition, you will most likely need to install an intercooler.

Nowadays, almost no one installs compressors purchased from junkyards. The only advantage of such an installation is the exclusivity of these options.

Kits are most often used. They are assembled on the basis of both units designed for specific VAZ models, and units from foreign cars. The kit is a tuning kit that includes a compressor and the necessary components. Some manufacturers provide a warranty on their products. GT compressors are also popular among car enthusiasts.

What's better?

The answer to this question can only be given by the owner of the VAZ 2107. A cheaper option would be to install a conventional compressor. It won't take much time or money.

But if you want your car to “fly”, then you need to install a turbine.

As stated above, this is a more complex procedure in which you will need to change some components of the car and invest a lot of money in such tuning. But you will definitely be pleased with the result.

If the car needs to be used during the tuning process, at various stages of modifications, high fuel consumption, worse controllability due to incorrect settings and, as a result, pre-crash or emergency operation are possible.

Refinement of the cylinder block

Regarding the VAZ 2107 cylinder block

, then you can install
lightweight pistons
- in fact, this is the easiest and most effective way to increase the performance of the entire engine as a whole. Why is that? It's very simple - the heavier connecting rod used in the base engine creates increased inertia from reciprocating movements. Part of the engine efficiency is lost to compensate for this physical phenomenon. In general, lightweight connecting rods and pistons can significantly increase engine balancing and also reduce friction.

One of the popular ways to do engine tuning yourself is

- this is the so-called
increase in engine volume
. This can be achieved by boring the cylinder block itself.

Let's touch the light pistons

, which are initially produced at the plant by casting. However, it is best, as a tuning, to install forged ones, which are lighter and more efficient than standard ones. The forging method reduces internal stresses in the metal.

You can also install an improved collector, which is also popularly called a spider. This will reduce the combined influence of two adjacent cylinders. It allows for better ventilation or blowing of the cylinders, and therefore the resistance of the piston group will decrease and, accordingly, the engine power will increase.

Centrifugal type

The most common ones on internal combustion engines operate using so-called blades or “blades”. If we compare them with the previous two, then this type is the most compact of all, and it is also simple in manufacturing technology, which reduces its final cost. It can often be confused with the TURBO version (which is powered by exhaust gases), due to its similar design, but this is completely wrong, these are two completely different devices.

The principle of the structure consists of an inlet part, a working part (blade-blade) and a diffuser, which can be either bladed or bladeless. An air intake made in the shape of a “snail” is also required for installation.

The air, having passed through a special filter (by the way, is also required, otherwise all the dust will be inside the engine), enters a special inlet which gradually narrows (for minimal air losses during supply), then goes to the wheel. The impeller is mounted on a special mount, but there have been cases when it was placed on the shaft itself. Next, through a mechanical transmission (drive), it is connected to the crankshaft.

Such options are the most common on our domestic cars (in particular VAZ). They are chosen for their durability, low price, versatility and compactness.

The disadvantages of such compressors are low efficiency at low speeds, but at high speeds the engine power can increase up to 30% of the nominal value. At rpm from 4000, the pressure can reach 0.5 - 0.6 bar.

3 Mechanical air turbocharger - we improve the car with our own hands!

The turbo mode is most effective on injection gasoline engines. Carburetor-type engines can also work with a mechanical supercharger, but they require some do-it-yourself modifications, in particular, the installation of jets with a larger cross-section and other measures. In the case of an injection engine, it all comes down to new firmware.

A mechanical supercharger, powered by the engine crankshaft, has an undoubted advantage - it works absolutely synchronously with the unit and in turbo mode provides a uniform air supply in accordance with engine speed. However, such a device will take away part of the engine power for its operation.
