True, to perform such work requires special tools, equipment and knowledge. To bore the piston, high-tech equipment is needed, but before that, accurate calculations must be made and dimensions must be observed.
In the event that a part is ground down a couple of millimeters more than required, then there can be no talk of a positive result. Such machines are located in special workshops, so this method is not suitable for independent tuning of the VAZ-2114.
If you visit a specialized service station, the craftsmen here will be able to select the desired type of crankshaft in a short time, then replace it and bore the engine pistons. The entire process of boosting the engine takes about one day.
WHAT RESULTS CAN YOU GET?
- Reflashing can give a power increase from 5 to 25% and an increase in torque up to 15%.
- Due to the increased engine power, fuel consumption is noticeably reduced - up to 12%. But after chipping, the car begins to consume higher quality gasoline and oil. For example, before reprogramming the ECU, your car consumed 92 octane gasoline; after the firmware, the engine starts running at 95 octane, which also has a positive effect on the power characteristics of the engine. An increase in gasoline consumption is only possible if the driver begins to use the increased engine power to the maximum. And this doesn't happen often. Many drivers carry out such brain reprogramming precisely in order to save gasoline.
- Reconfiguring will qualitatively improve the operation of the fan, which will affect cold starts, thereby reducing the acceleration time.

The initial problem that the client came up with was that the car had an error on the low efficiency of the catalyst

).
Computer diagnostics
confirmed the diagnosis and did not identify any third-party faults. The client was offered two options to solve the problem.
First: installing a new catalyst (catalyst collector), second: replacing the catalytic converter with a “spider” type collector and flashing the car to Euro-2
(with catalyst control disabled). The first option turned out to be more expensive.
In addition, the client was interested in the possibility of increasing engine power
. Therefore, we agreed on the second option and got to work.
First of all, we considered the factory firmware and recorded a tuned modification instead. By the way, the car turned out to be quite “fresh” (among the VAZ-2114 cars).
There was already an electronic throttle and a modern (by the standards of the fourteenth) Itelma M74
. This ECU is flashed by connecting a special cable to it.
The operation can be performed without removing the ECU from the car, which is quite convenient.
As soon as the tuned firmware was written into the ECU, we moved on from chipping the engine
for plumbing work. Namely, replacing the catalytic converter with a “spider” type collector, which does not include a catalyst can in its design.
By the way, in our warehouse we always have repair kits for replacing the catalytic converter with a manifold without a catalyst
. Therefore, this time the client did not have to go shopping or carry supplies himself - we had everything in stock.
The repair kit includes all the necessary components: the manifold itself, the manifold gasket, the exhaust pipe gasket, three M8 nuts and three M8 studs.
At the end of the work, we re-ran the diagnostics and checked that the catalyst control is disabled and the error no longer lights up

There are many methods for increasing engine power that you can implement yourself. To maximize the machine's capabilities, new cylinders must be added. But this is the most radical and expensive method; experts advise doing without it or contacting a specialist car service center.
General information about the VAZ 2114 engine
There are three modifications for this model. If you are asking yourself the question of where to start tuning a VAZ 2114 engine, then first you need to understand what material you will have to work with. There are the following types:
- Eight-valve 1.5-liter engine.
- Eight valves, but with a volume of 1.6 liters.
- Sixteen valves with a volume of 1.6 liters.
Most often today you can find the second option. However, compared to the first point, this engine gained only 4 horsepower, which can hardly be called decent power in our time. Any repair shop provides a tuning service.
Experts will say that the most inexpensive way to “accelerate” a car is to install a zero-resistance filter and an enlarged throttle valve. It is also possible to install a sports camshaft (increase power by 20%). You can go a more complicated route, replacing many parts with lightweight ones (pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft).
Ways to increase power
- increase in cylinder displacement;
- replacing the standard air filter;
- installation of a turbocharger;
- chip tuning.
The first method is one of the most reliable and effective. After preliminary diagnostics, which will provide detailed information about the parts and internal systems (carried out at any service station), you need to correctly bore the piston, change the intake manifold and crankshaft. Without a machine and tools, this operation will not be possible. After all, if you sharpen the piston incorrectly, literally making a mistake of a couple of millimeters, the results will be catastrophic. From a financial point of view, such an operation will cost about 400-500 dollars in a workshop, but the power will increase by 1.5 times. Unfortunately, fuel consumption will also increase along with it.
You may lose your factory warranty
If you run into an unqualified Lada chip tuning specialist. The program may install with errors. Sometimes programmers change only one characteristic, for example, fuel delivery. A constantly enriched air-fuel mixture breaks down the catalyst. Excessive thrust significantly reduces the resource of the Lada CPG. And so on.
