The best low and high beam lamps on the fret grant

Good visibility on the road, especially in the dark, is a guarantee of safety. A correctly installed lighting system is extremely important for a car; the issue of uninterrupted operation of high and low beam headlights on a Lada Granta car is always relevant.

In today’s article we will talk about the malfunctions and causes of failure (burnout) of low beam lamps on Lada Granta cars, we will look at what to look for when choosing, and I will also tell you step by step how to replace this undoubtedly important element of the car.

The main reasons for LBS burnout on Grant

Most often, Granta owners complain about the fairly frequent failure of low beam lamps. Indeed, they most often require changing names, which is understandable: after all, they work almost constantly.

If previously car owners turned on the lights at night and in inclement weather, now, according to the rules, they must always be on while driving. Lamps do not last forever, and if a cheaper analogue is purchased to replace the fairly good standard OSRAM light bulbs, the problem may become a regular one.

The second common reason for bulbs burning out in front and rear headlights is moisture getting inside. The culprit is usually cracked or poorly fitting rubber seals located between the headlight housing and the glass. The presence of a problem is indicated by periodic fogging of the headlight from the inside.

Halogen lamps may not light due to improper installation. During this procedure, you must avoid touching the glass surface with your fingers.

Traces of grease significantly reduce the life of the light bulb. In addition, although in rare cases, the lamps do not light up due to too high voltage supplied by the car's alternator or poor terminal contact.

In general, as you were able to notice, there may be more than enough reasons why the low beam on the Lada Granta stopped working. Let's now figure out in what cases you will need to replace the lamps, and in which cases you should contact a specialist.

When to change lamps?

If it is discovered that the working element in the lamp has burned out, then replacing the lighting device should begin without delay. Experts recommend replacing lamps in two headlights at once. Initially, the factory installs lamps with the same conditions, which gives them approximately equal lifespan. The installation of lamps should be treated with special responsibility, which will eliminate the risk of sudden loss of “light” while driving.

Also, the owner should purchase products for the left and right sides of the car with identical markings (standard) and only manufactured by the same manufacturer. After all, different lamps have their own quality conditions, features of the implementation of the light beam, service life and other parameters. It is possible to avoid unnecessary problems and their consequences only by purchasing a set of devices.

When replacement is required

Replacing low beam lamps on a Grant may be necessary if they burn out. But, if such a malfunction occurs very often, or along with the low beam, any other part directly related to the electrical system disappears or stops working, then in this case it is better to contact a specialist.

I drove these myself for 2 years, installed fog breakers, and it got even better.

allseason supposedly installed yellow ones, I like the different lamps, there were some transitional models, my relatives had one, one Osram lamp, the other Philips, and I read something like this on the internet many times

I installed Allseason before the new year (available in the BZ) - I tested it on two excursions during the New Year holidays, both times with bad weather: the first - a snowstorm, the second - a half-damp track with ice and snow suspension. The result is good light.

I agree 100%. I installed these on Megan’s near-range H7, now I’ll install the same on the far-range H1))

Before this I installed Osram night breaker plus (64193NBP02B) on an old Passat, on the whole I was happy, then I drove on a grant with standard Philips, after a trip to the village along a dirt road one of the lamps burned out. I installed Osram yellow ones, I don’t remember the model, but they were very praised, they say they shine very well at night in the rain. I drove in the rain, fortunately we have such weather regularly. I will say that nothing is visible, neither in the rain nor in the wet asphalt. I drove off-road again, hit a larger spot, and the lamp burned out on the other side. Replaced it with Philips H4 3700K X-treme Vision +130%, the remaining Philips and Osram became a repair kit. I drove for three months, went off-road again and the left lamp burned out! Not available individually anywhere, set 1200 RUR. (however, I look at the ones that were installed on the Passat now in general are made of gold steel) I bought a kit and installed it, now the repair kit contains three lamps of different colors: Philips yellow-white, Osram bright yellow, and Philips Extreme bright white.

Features of choosing LBS

Standard low beam lamps that are installed on the Lada Granta 60/55 H4: where 60/55 is the power of the low beam (55) and high beam (60) in watts. H4 is the type of base. Therefore, please note that this lamp is used for both low and high beam headlights.

In addition, the low beam lamps on the Lada Granta differ in many respects. The most popular of which are:

  1. Philips X-treme Vision (the brightest, give white light) Features declared by the manufacturer: bright white light, increase the lighting area in front of the car by 45 m, high-quality quartz glass. One of the highest brightness levels and incredible comfort in the dark.
  2. Philips LongLife EcoVision (inexpensive, extended service life) Features: high-strength quartz glass, resistant to temperature changes and vibration, high internal pressure - powerful light.
  3. Bosch Pure Light (extended service life) Features stated by the manufacturer: up to 90% more light, exclusive design with silver plating and blue sector.
  4. Osram Original Line (good illumination area) Features: OEM quality, improved visibility up to 130%.

How to choose the right lamps?

When going to buy new light bulbs, the Lada Granta driver should familiarize himself with the markings on the surface of the standard product. So you will need to find the part from the o. The power of this lighting device is limited to 55 W, which is also a significant criterion when selecting a part. Lighting devices designed to generate high beams are equipped with increased power up to 60 W.

Also, one should not discount the manufacturer (brand) to which the products we are considering are offered. During the purchase, it would be useful to check the functionality of the lamp chosen by the buyer. Additional assistance will be provided by qualified advice from an employee of a trading entity.

Carefully inspect the product for loose contacts or poor soldering. These defects are unacceptable because they can cause the light beam to disappear when driving over uneven surfaces, which is dangerous.

Step-by-step instructions for replacing low beam lamps on a Grant

In order to replace the low beam lamp on a Lada Granta, you must perform the following procedure:

  1. Turn off the ignition, headlights and parking lights.
  2. Disconnect the terminal from the battery

  3. Open the hood of the car.
  4. Shine a flashlight under the upper cross member on the left side to find the headlight cover

  5. Find the locking tab at the top, press it and remove the cover
  6. Remove the block with wires by pulling it with sufficient force

  7. Remove the rubber boot by pulling it by the tab.

  8. Installing the lamp is done in reverse order.

Oil or gas. what to choose?

Hydraulic shock absorbers used in cars can be divided into two groups: oil and gas. They work on a similar principle. However, they differ from each other in their damping medium and, therefore, in their properties:

  • The oil shock absorber is a twin-tube shock absorber. As the name suggests, it is equipped with two pipes: the outer one serves as the housing, and the inner one has a piston and hydraulic fluid that reduces vibrations. When the piston moves, oil flows between the pipes thanks to special valves. During compression, which is the first stage of shock absorber operation, the piston rod forces oil to flow down the piston. This is possible thanks to a one-way valve. This reduces the amount of space in the cylinder for the damping medium, i.e. oil. Its excess enters the compensation tank through the bottom valve. During this flow, resistances arise that weaken the vibrations. The piston rod then protrudes from the cylinder, which increases the pressure of the damping fluid on the piston. Oil flows through the valves again. During this process, vibration damping is resisted again. The volume of the piston rod is equalized by the oil flow in the compensation tank.
  • Gas shock absorber is the general name for oil and gas shock absorber. Unlike its predecessor, it consists of a single tube that contains a piston. The lower part of the shock absorber contains compressed gas (nitrogen), which is separated from the damping agent (oil) by a movable partition. Thanks to this design, the damping system does not require a compensation tank. The first stage of shock absorber operation is compression, during which the pressure increases. Under its influence, the piston rod slides into the working chamber and forces the piston to move down. As a result, oil enters the space above the piston. This is followed by reflection, during which we observe the upward movement of the piston. Thus, the oil pressure above the piston increases and the fluid moves again.

Shock absorbers are often considered only as elements that should provide better ride comfort. Meanwhile, they are also of great importance for the safety of car travel. They affect the vehicle's grip on the ground. When choosing these parts, it is worth considering whether gas or oil shock absorbers will work best.

Returning to the question of which struts are best to install on a Granta sedan, we recommend using oil ones; they will make the car ride softer and more comfortable. While gas ones are a more sporty solution.

Opening access to the headlight

What kind of light bulbs are in the headlights of the VAZ 2110 and what is better to choose?
The peculiarity of how to change a low beam lamp on a Grant is that access to the light device is closed. Removal of halogen lighting equipment is done from the inside of the headlight. The driver will have to climb under the hood from the power unit side. In this case, space limitations must be taken into account. To make extraction more comfortable, you can get rid of some motor elements that get in the way.

For example, on the left side you can unscrew the lock of the air filter housing, on the right side you can remove the cover to protect the engine. After which the filler cap is returned to its original place to fill the oil.

Types of lighting

Low beam bulbs differ in their level of energy consumption, brightness and other characteristics. Highlight:

  • halogen models. They are classic for “Grants” and represent a modern type of incandescent lamps with a base. They increase the temperature of the filament to 3000 degrees, and the flask contains vapors of halogen gases. They have a low cost, but provide good visibility and an average operating period;
  • xenon They are characterized by a bright white glow, similar in its characteristics to daylight. The flask of such products contains inert gases through which an electric discharge passes. They have minimal dimensions and a long service life;
  • LED These products have not yet gained popularity as main lights, but diodes are widely used as a secondary light source due to their brightness and extremely long service life.

Manufacturers

Currently, there are a large number of brands and manufacturers on the market. Not taking into account little-known Chinese and other brands, the most common are the following: OSRAM, Philips, BOSCH, Narva, Mayak. The choice between them should be made based on standard indicators - the presence of the desired light bulb model in their line, the warranty period, the originality of the product, the price-quality ratio.

Employees of the reputable publishing house “Behind the Wheel” conducted real tests of lamps from the manufacturers mentioned above. The tests were carried out on a Chevrolet Aveo car with headlights that had been in use for one and a half years. The luminous flux value was measured using the Ecolight-02 device separately for the right and left headlights. The test results are summarized in a table. The letter "L" means left headlight, and "P" means right headlight.

Nuances of the work, possible problems

Finally, about some nuances of the replacement. In general, the operation is not difficult, but sometimes problems arise.

When installing halogen lamps, please note that touching the bulb with your hands is not allowed. During installation/dismantling, the element should only be held by the base.

If you touch the bulb, fingerprints will remain on its surface, which will lead to darkening of the glass and rapid failure of the element.

Therefore, during the replacement process, you should wear clean gloves. If you accidentally touched the flask with your fingers, any remaining traces of contact should be removed. And for this, clean rags and alcohol come in handy.

Work should be carried out at positive temperatures. Some car enthusiasts who carried out replacements in cold weather simply broke the cover latch. This happens because plastic hardens in the cold, becomes brittle and breaks easily.

Another problem that Lada Granta car owners face when replacing is the sticking of the rubber boot to the headlight housing.

In this case, you can’t do anything special and all that remains is to apply force, but everything must be done carefully so as not to tear the rubber element and also not to damage the lamp.

If the low beam lamp on the driver's side has burned out (further operation of the car is prohibited by traffic rules, and this will result in a fine), and there is no replacement element, then you can swap the tabs with the headlights. After this you can continue moving.

Any modern car or truck can be serviced and repaired independently, in a regular garage. All you need for this is a set of tools and a factory repair manual with a detailed (step-by-step) description of the operations. Such a manual should contain the types of operating fluids, oils and lubricants used, and most importantly, the tightening torques of all threaded connections of parts of vehicle components and assemblies. Italian cars – Fiat (Fiat) Alfa Romeo (Alfa Romeo) Lancia (Lancia) Ferrari (Ferrari) Mazerati (Maserati) have their own design features. Also, all French cars – Peugout (Peugeot), Renault (Renault) and Citroen (Citroen) can be distinguished into a special group. German cars are complex. This especially applies to MercedesBenz, BMW, Audi and Porsche, and to a lesser extent to Volkswagen and Opel. The next large group, separated by design features, consists of American manufacturers - Chrysler, Jeep, Plymouth, Dodge, Eagle, Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Ford, Mercury, Lincoln. Among the Korean companies, Hyundai/Kia, GM–DAT (Daewoo), SsangYong should be noted.

More recently, Japanese cars were distinguished by their relatively low initial cost and affordable prices for spare parts, but recently they have caught up with prestigious European brands in these indicators. Moreover, this applies almost equally to all brands of cars from the land of the rising sun - Toyota (Toyota), Mitsubishi (Mitsubishi), Subaru (Subaru), Isuzu (Isuzu), Honda (Honda), Mazda (Mazda or as Matsuda used to say) , Suzuki (Suzuki), Daihatsu (Daihatsu), Nissan (Nissan). Well, cars produced under the Japanese-American brands Lexus, Scion, Infinity, Acura were not cheap from the very beginning.

Domestic cars have also changed a lot with the introduction of Euro-3 standards. Lada Kalina, Lada Priora and even Lada Niva 4x4 are now much more difficult to maintain and repair.
