VAZ 2110. Beginning

The project to create the VAZ 2110 started back in 1983. The first prototype was made already in 1985. At that time, AVTOVAZ was doing well, and the technologies incorporated into the future “ten” were state-of-the-art, and the model itself could be called a breakthrough. The car was developed in collaboration with Porsche and received various electronic systems (including an electronic engine management system, on-board computer, power windows), and power steering. The body was made from galvanized parts, which, moreover, were painted using new technology.

And everything would be great if it weren’t for AVTOVAZ’s main problem - the time it took to put the model on the assembly line was very delayed. Serial production of the VAZ 2110 began only in 1996, that is, 11 years after the start of development. But, despite this, for the domestic automobile industry, the car became a serious step forward, and the Russian car enthusiast had the opportunity to buy a car with a new set of consumer qualities. Models of the tenth family were produced for 11 years until 2007 and were sold in huge numbers. From the time of its appearance until the end of production, the series was considered the most prestigious and expensive. In terms of price, it was even more expensive than some of its classmate foreign cars.

Modifications

Over the course of its history, a dozen have tried on various bodies: VAZ-2112 hatchback, VAZ-2111 station wagon, VAZ-21106 coupe.

Received a huge number of modifications: VAZ-21100, VAZ-21101, VAZ-21102, VAZ-21103, VAZ-21103M, VAZ-21104, VAZ-21104M and others.

Subjected to many variations of factory tuning.

The family's cars are still alive today; until recently they were made from AVTOVAZ kits in Ukraine under the Bogdan brand.

External tuning of VAZ 2110, 2111, 2112

The mass nature of the model made it a popular basis for popular tuning, the peak of which coincided with the production of these cars. I think it’s not worth giving examples of such “updates”; let’s just list the tuning parts that are installed on the VAZ 2110, 2111 and 2112:

In the summer of 1995, the first production copies of the VAZ 2110, popularly known as the “ten,” rolled off the assembly line of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant. Painting the ceiling

Over time, the ceiling of any car gets dirty and changes color. Spots may appear on it. All this looks very unsightly. Some drivers order ceiling reupholstery. It is not so easy to do it in a garage. And specialist services are expensive. This is why many drivers prefer to paint the car ceiling rather than reupholster it. Here's what's required:

• universal paint. Sold in cans (5 pieces are required for the interior of a VAZ 2110). The disadvantage of this paint is that after a few years it begins to crumble. In addition, the interior of the car after such painting has to be ventilated for several days;
• a mixture of water-based and universal paint. This option is used as an alternative to the previous one. This mixture holds up better on the ceiling.

Before painting begins, the ceiling covering will have to be removed from the car.

Engine

There are many modifications to the VAZ 2110 engine to improve its performance. A list of engine changes that tuning enthusiasts can do with their own hands:

1. A zero resistance filter is installed in the engine.
2. Changes are being made to the fuel supply system to the engine. For example, jets are installed - dispensers that control the amount of incoming fuel.
3. A larger diameter throttle valve is installed in the intake system to increase the volume of air supplied.
4. The receiver is being modified.
5. Direct-flow exhaust is installed. This procedure is considered one of the most common modifications performed by car tuning enthusiasts.
6. Various manipulations are performed with the cylinder block. For example, new camshafts are installed.
7. The engine cooling system is tuned to obtain a cold intake effect.

Some of these modifications are difficult to do yourself. If you do not have the necessary experience and qualifications, it is advisable to contact a car service center for any changes to the car’s power unit.

Suspension

Often the object of tuning on the VAZ 2110 and related cars is the suspension. The following manipulations are performed with this VAZ design element:

1. Lowering the car. Despite the possibility of purchasing new lowered springs, many owners of the “ten” prefer to limit themselves to shortening the factory units, sawing off several turns from them.
2. Installation of helical suspension and adjustable shock absorbers - coilovers. Such a suspension has a high price, however, making coilovers with your own hands is difficult if you lack experience.
3. To increase the stiffness of the springs and increase the ground clearance of the car, interturn spacers - buffers - are installed.
4. To give the “ten” an extravagant look, wheels with a negative camber angle are installed.
5. Manufacturing of independent rear or front suspension.

Despite the ban on most of these modifications, tuning enthusiasts make the following changes to the car’s braking system:

• installation of rear disc brakes;
• installation of multi-colored pads on the caliper;
• installation of brake pads with a modified appearance.

Salon

In addition to body design modifications, drivers often make changes inside their cars. Common types of tuning the interior of the “tens”:

1. Buying a new audio system and installing subwoofers in the trunk of a car.
2. Improving car sound insulation.
3. Replacing the factory dashboard with a new one. An updated accessory often includes additional options, such as a temperature sensor.
4. Buying new heated and adjustable seats.
5. Replacing the original steering wheel. A new steering wheel is often adjustable.

Thanks to the favorable price-quality ratio, the VAZ 2110 and its variants have become popular among Russian car enthusiasts. The low price and simplicity of the design allow tuning and making changes to the “top ten” that improve its appearance and technical characteristics.
