Stabilizer struts for VAZ 2190-2191, 2192, 2194 vehicles

Anti-roll bars are the connecting element of a vehicle's suspension, connecting the stabilizer bar to the wheel hubs.

This structural element ensures uniform load on the suspension when the vehicle turns, which prevents the vehicle from rolling to the side and relieves vibration load on the body, protecting the mechanized part from premature wear and tear.

When choosing stabilizer struts, it is important to take into account the resistance of the parts to dynamic loads, especially when operating the vehicle in an overloaded state or on roads with insufficient surface quality. The best option would be to purchase models with reinforced construction from the premium segment.

Note! When selecting components for the Lada Priora, it is necessary to check the article numbers of the components with the VIN number of the vehicle, which will ensure maximum compatibility of the parts with the design of the car. Remember, components may have different dimensions or form factors depending on the body type or year of manufacture of the car.

Replacing Priora stabilizer struts

Symptoms: knocking in the front suspension, the car pulls to the side when driving in a straight line.
Possible cause: Damaged anti-roll bar elements.

Tools: wheel chocks, set of sockets, set of wrenches.

Inspect the stabilizer parts: the stabilizer rod should not be deformed, and its ends should be located in the same plane, the rod pads should not have cracks or tears, the posts and bushings should have the same elasticity and should not have cracks or tears. After inspection, replace defective parts.

1. Place the car on a lift, inspection hole or overpass.

2. Install wheel chocks under the rear wheels.

3. Remove the additional exhaust muffler.

4. Unscrew and remove one mounting nut of the stabilizer struts on both sides of the vehicle.

5. Unscrew and remove two mounting nuts of the stabilizer bar brackets on both sides of the vehicle.

6. Remove the stabilizer bar assembly with brackets and struts.

7. Inspect the stabilizer bar. It should not be deformed, and its ends should be located in the same plane.

8. Remove the brackets from the stabilizer bar pads.

9. Inspect the stabilizer bar cushions. They should be elastic and resilient. Also, the cushions should be free of cracks, tears, signs of wear and other defects.

10. Inspect the stabilizer links and bushings. Tears, cracks and signs of wear are not allowed.

Note. If defects are found on the bushings of the anti-roll bar struts, the strut assemblies should be replaced, since dismantling the bushings requires a press, which is often not available in the garage.

11. Install the stabilizer bar, then tighten the mounting nuts of the stabilizer pad brackets.

12. Tighten the fixing nuts of the stabilizer struts until the gaps between the struts and the arms are selected.

13. Install an additional muffler for the exhaust gas system.

14. Place the car on the ground on all wheels, then tighten all the mounting nuts of the anti-roll bar parts with the suspension loaded (the car must be installed on an inspection hole or overpass).

Note. Nut tightening torques:

— mounting nuts for struts — 43–53 N∙m;

— mounting nuts of brackets — 13–16 N∙m.

Other types of repairs for this vehicle:

The anti-roll bar on a Lada Priora car must be removed in case of failure of rubber bushings, struts or mechanical deformation for its subsequent replacement. To carry out repair work, prepare a standard set of tools and perform the following sequence of actions:

  • First of all, for the convenience of carrying out repair work, it is necessary to install the car on an inspection hole or overpass, then slow it down by engaging first gear and placing wooden blocks under the rear wheels.
  • Next, dismantle the additional muffler.
  • On each side, you need to unscrew one nut securing the stabilizer struts to the suspension arm.
  • Then unscrew the nuts securing the stabilizer bar brackets on both sides and remove the brackets.
  • Now carefully remove the stabilizer from the car along with the struts.
  • If you plan to replace only the struts, in this case it is enough to just unscrew their fastening nuts and then knock them off the ends of the stabilizer with a hammer.
  • Now that the dismantling is complete, completely replace it if it is deformed or wear appears at the fastening points, which occurs during long-term use. Rubber bushings must be replaced if the rubber loses its elasticity or if it has become very dry. Check the condition of the mounting brackets and replace them if necessary. The struts must be replaced for the same reasons as the bushings, including in case of deformation. For ease of fitting of all rubber elements, in particular bushings, it is recommended to treat their inner surface with a generous soap solution.

Why do racks fail?

On the Priora, the struts really fail quickly, you may not notice it, but hear it. Experienced mechanics say that there are three main reasons for this - poor build quality, carelessness of the owner and extreme driving. The fact is that when turning, the stabilizer tilts towards the angle of rotation, which is why the strut closest to it is compressed, and the farthest one is decompressed.

Constant cornering, drifting, and driving over artificial bumps at high speed cause the stabilizer struts to continuously compress and unclench. What happens to the springs during such experiments? Sooner or later they will become deformed. And with the racks, everything is a little more complicated, because they do not deform - they break immediately.

There are very few high-quality spare parts on the market; most components are supplied from China. Spare parts are no exception to the rule; they are also low quality - flimsy. The “cherry on the cake” from Chinese manufacturers is the replacement of good lubricant with ordinary technical petroleum jelly. Vaseline does not promote stable rotation of the joint, and the stabilizer does not perform its main function.

Lada Priora asks that its owner check the suspension more often for serviceability! Undoubtedly, you can replace the stabilizer bar, but this will not solve the problem if you install loose bushings and struts on it. If you change something in the suspension, then change it radically - so that the next knock in the suspension will not be heard very soon.

How to identify a malfunction and when it is necessary to change struts on a Lada Priora

There are several characteristic signs that indicate the exhaustion of the life of the stabilizer struts:

  • The car loses control at extremely low or high speeds;
  • You feel increased vibration load on the steering wheel;
  • Feels impacts or extraneous sounds in the suspension area or under the wheels;
  • When the car enters a turn, a roll in the opposite direction is felt;
  • The roll angle of the car when cornering reaches a critical point;
  • When reaching cruising speed, the car begins to sway.

If several signs are detected during the operation of the car, it is important to urgently diagnose the chassis. A preliminary examination can also be done at home - for this you will need:

  • Turn the steering wheel in any direction to the side until it stops and, holding the wheel disk with your hands, try to turn the wheel to the side - the feeling of play indicates wear of the hinge between the strut and the wheel hub, which seriously affects the handling of the vehicle;
  • Next, you need to inspect the racks themselves for damage - deformation of the bushings or the presence of traces of oil drips on the racks is a sign of a violation of the integrity of the structure, which allows moisture and small abrasive particles to enter the system, leading to grinding of components;
  • Then we hold the handbrake and try to rock the car - successful completion of the procedure is characterized by critical play of parts along the entire perimeter of the struts, which requires urgent replacement. With properly functioning racks, it will not be possible to rock the car even with a group of several people.

To avoid a critical situation on the road or a sudden breakdown of the vehicle, it is recommended to timely service the suspension system, as well as conduct a full diagnostic inspection of the vehicle’s chassis every 15,000 km. Remember, neglecting to replace components only aggravates the situation, which leads to an increase in the cost of repairs and a decrease in the safety of the driver and passengers when operating the vehicle.

Analogs

Not only sports stubs can be installed as a replacement for the original racks. There are good analogues for the price of VAZ racks:

They all have about the same price - about 200-300 rubles. And SS20 struts can cost 3-4 times more, because they change the driver’s perception of his car - the car becomes more maneuverable, holds the road better, making it more difficult to resist the temptation not to press the gas pedal to the floor.

But it’s too early to dream about racing until one good measure is taken to prevent chassis failure in the Priora. In addition to the “eggs,” the bushings suffer, crack, and wear out. They make it so that during maneuvers the stabilizer twists in different directions, and when they wear out, play is formed in the stabilizer bar. This can be felt because the car wobbles more during acceleration and braking on turns.

Buying and replacing stabilizer bushings for a Priora is not such a big investment, but by making it in advance - during the replacement of the same struts - the problem with the suspension in the future will be solved, its service life will increase. Remember that the quality of roads leaves much to be desired, so suspension elements are a real consumable item for the domestic car enthusiast.

Standard bushings and struts

Everywhere you can hear the words that the standard stabilizer struts on the Priora are almost instantly replaced. But are they as bad as they actually say? The suspension of cars of the Prior family was modified after the “tenth” family - its service life has increased, and it allows it to go through bumps and holes more smoothly. The survivability of the suspension is reflected in the reviews of the owners - the Priora is more praised because it performs well in rural areas with original spare parts.
