If there are signs of an immobilizer malfunction, it is recommended to diagnose not only the device itself, the key, but also the generator, as well as the car battery. If the voltage in the electrical network is too low, you will need to solve this problem first.

Tell me, how can I find out if the car has an immobilizer?

Such a situation that I found out about installing an alarm system and its installers add 2 thousand to the cost to bypass the immobilizer. I have a 2004 Chevrolet Lacetti. How can I find out if I really need a lineman or if they want to scam me out of money? Is there any way to check if I even have an immobilizer?

My first thought is to try to start it with the left key.

Remove the battery from the key, if it doesn’t start after that, it means there’s an immo

Make a duplicate from the Chinese and try to start it with a duplicate, if it starts, it means no

What does the battery have to do with it?

1. Look at the key - is it original or not? 2. If it’s not the original and the car starts, there is no immobilizer 3. If it’s original, you make a copy and try to start it))) If it starts, see point 2, and if not, then there is an immobilizer

Another option is to do a full decryption using the VIN, it will be indicated there. Z.Y. Where did the Opel go?

Is it possible to read the package contents of this lacheta?

I agree, the battery doesn’t matter for the chip. I crumple the keys with chips, but they are sealed tightly. TS, make a duplicate, it’s still advisable to have it.

My key, as the seller said, was hidden somewhere under the panel. )

The Hateful Six! Toev Ark. 97

The constantly flashing shift light reminds me of immo)))

The key is always hidden under the panel! and two keys are given to you when you buy a car :)

Exactly. And if it’s immo, then the relative will still be buried in the “Crawler”, which costs 250 rubles. And a duplicate will become necessary.

AAAAAAA, it works)))))))))) On the Lacetti forum I read a test method)))))) You need to wrap the plastic part of the key in foil. In this form, the car with immo will not start. With the key wrapped in foil from a pack of cigarettes, my Old Man really sent me to hell, it didn’t start))))))))))))))

what 2 tr. a lineman costs 200 rubles!

oh, the namesake already wrote)

there is immo on the car. Do you need either a lineman to warm up, or leave the key in the car?

what 2 tr. a lineman costs 200 rubles!

oh, the namesake already wrote)

Fuck it's 200 rubles.

there is immo on the car. Do you need either a lineman to warm up, or leave the key in the car?

Fuck it's 200 rubles.

Come, I’ll sell you a new one for 200 re

At Lachet, you can pick out the chip itself from a key with buttons, stick it next to the lock and there’s no need for a crawler. The Tokma stops starting with the second chip key))))), you still have to sharpen the blank and drive with it. And using the signal to break the immo receiver circuit.

It is enough to install a whitefish that will be friends with the car via the CAN bus and there is no need for crawlers or hidden keys, much less overpay for bypassing the immo.

Diagnostics for immobilizer problems

Before repairing damage to the blocker, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Charge the battery. If the battery is discharged, the immobilizer may not work correctly. If the battery is low, it must be removed and recharged using a charger.
  2. Use the original key. The main control element should be the one recommended by the manufacturer.
  3. Remove the ignition key from the switch and try to find the problem with it.
  4. Move all electronic devices and gadgets away from the control unit. The blocker is an electronic device, so the presence of the same devices nearby may lead to interference. If, after the devices have been removed, the operation of the immo has stabilized, then the device is in working order.

What are the signs of a breakdown?

“Symptoms” by which you can determine that the immobilizer is broken:

  • the starter does not turn when trying to start the engine;
  • the starter rotates the crankshaft, but the power unit does not start;
  • on the dashboard in the car, the immo failure indicator lights up, the Check Engine light may appear on the control panel;
  • When you try to lock or open the car door locks with the key fob, the system does not respond to the actions of the car owner.

The 100 Video Inc channel talked about one of the malfunctions in the operation of the internal combustion engine blocker.

Main causes of malfunction

Causes of immo malfunctions:

  1. The battery was disconnected from the car's power supply while the ignition was on. If the control module is tightly bound to the control key, as a rule, malfunctions do not appear for this reason.
  2. The battery was discharged when trying to start the power unit. If there are problems with the engine when cranking the starter, the battery will quickly run out. This problem often appears in the winter season.
  3. The problem is sometimes associated with replacing the car engine or microprocessor immo control unit. When buying a new engine for a car, you need to purchase a kit to control the power unit. This refers to the central unit, immobilizer and key tag. Otherwise, you will need to bind the control element to the microprocessor module.
  4. Malfunctions related to the operation of electrical devices and instruments. For example, the fuse that protects the immobilizer electrical circuit could fail.
  5. Software failure. Immobilizer coding information is stored in the EEPROM circuit. This board element belongs to the ROM class. If used for a long time or if software problems occur, the firmware will fail and the circuit will need to be programmed again.
  6. Failure of the tag key. Inside the device there is a chip that is designed to identify the car owner with the immobilizer control unit. If the tag breaks down, you will not be able to diagnose it yourself; this requires special equipment.
  7. Poor contact between the receiving device and the antenna. The appearance of such a malfunction is usually caused by shaking. Perhaps the pads on the antenna module and receiver were made poorly, which led to oxidation of the contact elements. Sometimes the problem is a dirty connector. The contact may not disappear immediately, but after a certain time.
  8. The battery in the key is low. The key can be equipped with an autonomous power supply system, in which case its performance is not determined by the battery charge.
  9. Damage or breakage of the pumping loop. The electrical connection to this element may be broken.
  10. Malfunction of the electrical power circuits of the engine blocker control module.
  11. Loss of communication between the immo module and the central unit of the power unit.

How to find an immobilizer - where is the IMMO located?

Happy owners of cars with an immobilizer (IMMO) may not be interested in this article. But it will strengthen the confidence that sound sleep and confidence in the safety of a car standing unattended is a merit of IMMO. These lucky ones sometimes don’t know where the immobilizer is. But the fact that it is there reminds them of the indicator on the instrument panel, the chip key and the personal tag.

Those car enthusiasts who do not yet believe in the miraculous power of IMMO or doubt it will find it useful to learn about its capabilities. Find out what is hidden behind the English “immobilizer” and the unfriendly Russian – immobilizer. This faithful sentry is constantly in the car and begins to serve when there is no one else to do it. Any action in the car that IMMO does not understand is perceived as hostile.

What to do if the immobilizer has blocked the engine from starting

Unlocking the immobilizer can be done in several ways, much depends on the type of device installed in a particular brand of car.

Common methods:

  1. Using an infrared transmitter;
  2. Using the central locking button.

Unlock using IR transmitter

The method, if the immobilizer has blocked the engine, is suitable for types of devices in which the central locking and immobilizer are controlled by an IR key, for example, like in Mercedes cars.

In this case, you will need a four-digit code, which is entered during the unlocking process by pressing the on-board computer button (hereinafter referred to as BC) while holding down the gas pedal. The button is located on the windshield wiper switch at the end (not on all cars).

Algorithm of actions:

  1. Activate the immobilizer and turn on the ignition;
  2. A flashing light on the instrument panel will indicate that engine starting is blocked;
  3. We remove the blinking of the lamp by squeezing the gas pedal;
  4. Find the BC button. Without releasing the gas pedal, press it as many times as the first digit of the code;
  5. Take your foot off the pedal and the lamp will start flashing again;
  6. We press the pedal again - by pressing the BC button we enter the second digit of the code.
  7. Let's release the pedal;
  8. We repeat the same steps two more times.

A constant light on the lamp, regardless of whether the gas pedal is depressed or not, will indicate that the immobilizer is unlocked and you can try to start the engine.

If the code was entered incorrectly, the immobilizer will block the engine again. Nothing bad happened, you have two more tries. If they were not successful, then after 15 minutes you can repeat them.

How to unlock using the central locking button

To unlock the immobilizer using the central locking control button, you will need to enter an emergency code.

It is important to understand that using the steps listed below you can only start the car, but not decode the computer and the solenoid valve.

Algorithm of actions:

  1. Turn on the ignition. The light on the instrument panel will flash slowly.
  2. Turn the ignition off and on again. The light will flash faster, other lights will appear and go out after 3 seconds.
  3. After pressing and holding the central button on the key fob, the lamp will flash more slowly.

  4. Carefully monitor the blinking process, it is important to count the flashes and when their number is equal to the first digit of the code, release the central button on the key fob.
  5. Press and hold the button again. We release it as soon as the number of blinks matches the second digit of the code.
  6. We repeat this two more times.

That's it, the immobilizer is unlocked and you can start the engine. But when the ignition is on, a lamp flashing every 3 seconds will indicate that the protection is disabled.

The immobilizer will be locked again, after which you will have to enter the code again if:

  1. You turn off the ignition for more than 10 seconds.
  2. Disconnect the battery.
  3. The device will be blocked for 5 minutes if the code is entered 3 times in a row with an error.

Car alarm and immobilizer - unity and contradictions

The immobilizer in no way opposes itself to the alarm system. There is no duty to frighten potential intruders with the terrifying roar of a siren and fireworks of light flashes. A standard installed IMMO operates secretly for car thieves. He will even let them start the car and drive away. But the result will be the same - the car will be immobilized in the wrong place.

The main task of the device is to recognize the owner among thousands of others and allow him to use the car. Otherwise, no matter who gets behind the wheel of the car, he will not be able to use it. The defense has many options to find out the owner:

  • according to a pre-written code, dialed on a remote control located inside the car;
  • if the driver has a tag with a built-in chip. The tag, in the form of a bank card (by size) or key fob, can be located separately from the keys and documents for the car;
  • when the driver inserts the chipped key into the car's ignition switch;
  • by the fingerprint of the car owner.

Important: the place where IMMO is located is also the secret of its general, secret mission. Although the place where the regularly installed devices are located is often unknown only to the owners.

Recommendations for use

To avoid problems with the immo, you should adhere to the following recommendations:

  1. The owner of the car must have a spare key. If a problem arises in the operation of the chip on the key, you can unlock the immo with an additional key fob. If a spare key is not available, one must be made.
  2. The unlocking tag should be kept away from other keys, this will reduce the likelihood of unauthorized entry into the car and starting the engine.
  3. A high range of the key can be achieved as a result of its location along the plane of the transceiver.
  4. The car owner must know which immobilizer is installed in the car. It is advisable to understand the principle of operation of the blocker so that when the first symptoms of problems appear, you can solve the problem yourself.
  5. Remember that when using a non-digital blocker, a blinking diode indicator is considered the main sign when detecting a control module.
  6. If the installation of the anti-theft device is carried out by specialists, then the car owner must agree with the specialists on the installation location of the lock.

How does it work

If the car has a standard installed immobilizer, then it constantly waits for the coded password addressed to it. He can receive it in both contact and non-contact ways. In the first case, this happens when you enter a secret code or when you turn on the ignition with a chip key. In the second case, when a standard installed IMMO itself detects the driver’s personal tag.

With each of these options, he analyzes the received password with the data that is pre-registered in his memory:

  • if there is a match, IMMO, which can be located anywhere in the car, transmits the results of the analysis to the ECU (control unit) of the car;
  • The ECU, having received the IMMO signal, unlocks the corresponding relays, which are located in several electrical circuits of the car;
  • If an attacker discovers where the immobilizer is located and dismantles it, he will not receive a positive result. The ECU will wait for a signal from a device that does not exist, since receiving the IMMO signal is written into its program;
  • thus, it is necessary to either rewrite the ECU program or install a pure electronic element (chip) responsible for this process. Attackers don’t have time to reprogram and re-solder.

Important: the standard IMMO will conflict with the alarm system if it has an auto-start function. A key or keyless IMMO crawler should be used. In this case, it is necessary to foresee in advance where the key crawler will be located.

Purpose and principle of operation of the immobilizer

Translated into Russian, the word “immobillizer” means “immobilizer.” The device is an electronic circuit included in the car's wiring, which eliminates the possibility of unauthorized starting of the engine for the purpose of stealing the car. This is achieved by interrupting the vital electrical circuits of the machine. This module, unlike alarm systems using public address systems, operates covertly.

The main task of the device is to prevent the theft of a vehicle even if the interior is opened by attackers. In order to increase the efficiency of its operation, relays are installed in the circuit that block engine starting when the immobilizer is disconnected or removed, and even when the wires are shorted in the “correct” combination. Some models are combined with a standard alarm, which, when triggered, triggers the blocking.

The immobilizer includes the following elements:

  1. The electronic unit, or the “brain” of the device, in which key codes are located and processed.
  2. Engine control unit (ECU).
  3. Reading coil.
  4. Electromagnetic relays that break circuits and immobilize the machine.
  5. A key held by the driver that acts as a control element and activates the system.

The immobilizer can block either a single unit (power unit, gearbox, brakes or steering) or several units.

Innate curiosity or an irresistible thirst for creativity

What is the point in replacing an electronic unit that performs important security functions? And the reason should be quite serious, since the consequences, after an unsuccessful attempt at independent intervention, will be extremely sad. Moreover, if there is no experience in such work and no idea where the IMMO itself is located and how to find it.

There are not many reasons why car owners want to dismantle the standard immobilizer or reconstruct it:

  • regular IMMO periodically does not execute commands from a chip key or personal tag;
  • he stopped accepting commands and immobilized the car;
  • a standard immobilizer prevents careless car mechanics from diagnosing the cause of failures of some car components;
  • opposition to mounted alarm system, with remote start, IMMO;
  • natural stinginess and desire to save, regardless of the consequences.

For all of the above reasons, there is one simple solution - contact a professional car service. It is his specialists who will reflash the ECU or replace it. In this case, a trained set of keys or tags will be handed to the driver with warranty obligations. For a simple motorist, who sometimes has little understanding of all the intricacies of an electrician’s work, it will not be at all easy to even find a standard IMMO.

The search will take a long time and with big problems. Devices assigned security functions are not displayed. The secrecy of the device is the first line of defense for the car. You can try to find the place where it is located - there is time and there are conditions for this. Another thing is car thieves. They have neither time nor conditions.

In such searches, you will have to take apart a lot and, having sorted it out, you will not find what you wanted to find.

In such searches, even the smallest landmarks are important:

1. For standard immobilizers with LED indication;

  • this place can be detected by the wires coming from the LED;

2. For standard IMMOs with chip keys and contact marks;

  • Not far from the steering wheel, along with the engine start switch, there is a special antenna that receives the signal from the key transponder. Its switching will indicate the location where the immobilizer is located;

3. For standard immobilizers with a transponder, contactless tag or card;

  • Finding the place where the desired device is located is not just difficult, but physically impossible. We'll have to go through half the car.

Important: there can be only one justification for independently replacing IMMO - the absence, in the vast expanses of the Motherland, of accessible auto centers with the necessary specialists.

Transponder immobilizer system: what are the features and differences?

On modern cars you will most likely encounter just such a system. Its advantage is that it minimizes the risk of possible theft.

What makes it special? To activate the transponder immobilizer, even a professional auto mechanic will have to spend a lot of time and go through almost the entire car.

And the essence of such a system is contactless response.

The transponder immobilizer is locked or unlocked thanks to a special key fob or card, in which a special code or cipher is encrypted.

When the key is within the range of the immobilizer receiver, the car is unlocked and the owner can safely start the engine and drive in any direction.

When he moves away from the car, it will no longer be possible to start it in any other way, since the immobilizer is simply blocked.

Such a transceiver can also be hidden anywhere. The instrument panel, engine compartment, and seat upholstery are suitable for this. The most important thing is to make the disguise as reliable as possible. It is also impossible to find it using special equipment.

Self-installation of immobilizers is practically not carried out, since this requires high professionalism and extensive practice in working with such a device. Therefore, if you want to install an immobilizer on your car, it is better to contact specialists about this.

Where is it located during standard installation?

The problem of finding places where a standard immobilizer may be located can be solved by the fact that the device is “standard”. On the assembly lines of car factories, they did not bother to solve the problem of changing the location of the IMMO for each car. In-line production is just that: in-line and monotonous. Any change is a disruption to the operation of the conveyor.

It is enough to know the place where the standard immobilizer is located on one car, and it will immediately become clear where it is located on other cars of this model:

1. Where is the immobilizer located on the LADA Priora car;

immobilizer APS6 (small box, 100 mm in size - located behind the side covers of the center console. In its lower part.

2. Where is the immobilizer located on LADA Kalina;

  • The APS6 immobilizer is located behind the dashboard, radio and heating controls;

3. Where is the IMMO on LADA Granta;

  • The immobilizer is located behind the vehicle's dashboard. Exactly where the wiring from the ignition switch antenna leads;

What to do

If the key is not recognized by the immobilizer, contact a car service center where computer diagnostics are carried out. You can do the following on your own:

  • Check the key for the presence of a chip. If the device is dropped, the part may be lost. The search for the chip is carried out by disassembling the key.
  • Replace batteries. If there is a chip in the radio tag, you need to insert new batteries.
  • Use a spare key. If there is no duplicate or if the key blocker did not see the key on the Hyundai Solaris, you need to check the serviceability of the chip. The software may be damaged accidentally. Special equipment is used to diagnose the chip. The non-working chip is replaced with a similar one. You can contact a car service and order a duplicate key.
  • Assess the condition of the inflation loop. To do this, use a homemade wire device with an LED. It is installed near the pumping loop of the ignition switch. When the blocker is activated, the LED will start flashing. The loop can be checked with a multimeter. The normal resistance of this part is 20-500 Ohms. If the loop breaks, reading the code becomes impossible. The part needs to be repaired or replaced.
  • Measure the voltage supplied to the machine engine blocker unit. The latter is connected to the negative bus, the +12 V cable is connected to connector 15 through the ignition system. The installation diagram may be different, but the voltage must be constant. If it is missing, check the fuses. They are located in the same area of the cabin.
  • Inspect the power circuits of the motor control unit. It is not difficult to determine the fuses that regulate the functioning of this element.

Sometimes, if it is impossible to start the engine, the problem is solved by removing the battery terminals. After 15 minutes, the battery is connected again.

How to find out the immobilizer code by VIN code

Every modern immobilizer is a device that protects the car by blocking the engine. Such a device has its own individual code, which allows you to disable the security system in emergency mode. Some drivers manage to lose immobilizer codes, but don’t know how to restore them. A lot of information about each vehicle is encrypted in its VIN code, including information about the immobilizer code. Knowing the VIN code of his vehicle, the driver will be able to restore the immobilizer code without any problems. More details on how to do this will be discussed right now.

Main types of secrets

Car immobilizers are conventionally divided into 3 groups according to the type of operation.

A standard immobilizer in a car is installed by manufacturers during the factory assembly process, is included in the package, and operates at the software level. Cons: standard placement of the device significantly reduces its reliability and difficulty of detection. Solution: equipping the car with additional security equipment that will meet increased security requirements.

What is an immobilizer and why does it need a code?

An immobilizer is a small device that allows you to protect your car from theft by completely blocking the engine. The characteristic features of immobilizers can be considered:

  • the ability to connect to the car using wires or without them at all;
  • unlocking the system using radio tags, voice input or entering a code combination on standard buttons;
  • devices are very compact in size;
  • security systems with or without additional functions;
  • There are no buttons on the main blocks; they can be hidden anywhere;
  • have access to hood locks and can connect to standard alarms.

Each immobilizer has an individual code. It can contain from 4 to 7 characters. It is indicated on a special plastic card, which is easy for the car owner to lose. It is almost impossible to recover a lost code using the selection method, but using VIN code data is quite possible, and very quickly.

DIY immobilizer repair

You can repair the device yourself. If the car owner does not have experience working with security systems or electronics, it is recommended to entrust this procedure to professionals.

If the immobilizer frequently breaks down, it makes no sense to repair a faulty lock; it would be more advisable to replace it.

Poor antenna-receiver contact

To fix the problem you need to do the following:

  1. Find the immobilizer control unit in the car. If it is hidden behind the decorative lining of the interior, then it will need to be dismantled.
  2. Disconnect the main connector with contacts from the module.
  3. Using a steel brush or a special product with a cotton swab, clean the contact elements on the block. If the contacts are bent, they need to be carefully straightened with pliers.
  4. Connect the connector to the microprocessor module and check the correctness of the work performed.

Poor contact between the antenna adapter and the immo receiver is usually caused by rapid wear of the contact elements on the connector. The problem may lie in their oxidation and appear gradually - at first it is a single case of blocking the internal combustion engine, and then it happens sequentially.

User Mikhail2115 talked about moving the antenna adapter of the engine blocker for better contact with the receiver.

Poor contact of one of the electrical circuit plugs

In case of this malfunction, it is necessary to disconnect all conductors connected to the immobilizer unit. After this, they are diagnosed for integrity. It is necessary to use a multimeter to test all the wires on the control unit and power lines. If one of the cables comes off, it must be soldered to the block.

Malfunction of the controller when the voltage in the on-board network is low

If the battery is not critically discharged, you can try disconnecting it from the power supply for 20-30 minutes, during which time the battery can slightly replenish its charge. If this does not happen, it will need to be charged.

User Evgeniy Shevnin spoke about self-diagnosis of the generator unit using a tester.

The immobilizer cannot detect the key due to magnetic radiation

Initially, you need to unlock the immobilizer; to do this, you will need to turn off the power.

To complete the task you will need:

  • laptop or computer;
  • PAK-loader;
  • a roll of electrical tape;
  • key to 10.

Repair steps are performed as follows:

  1. The microprocessor module is removed; to do this, it is necessary to unscrew or disconnect the housing fastening elements.
  2. The connector with wires is disconnected from the device.
  3. The control unit is being disassembled. This usually requires unscrewing the bolts that secure the immo parts.
  4. The immobilizer unit is connected to a computer with a PAK loader, after which all information must be deleted from the module’s memory.
  5. The diagnostic line is being restored. Jumpers are then installed to establish communication between the microprocessor module and the test output. In some blocker models, Flash memory must be rewritten to perform an action.
  6. To preserve all the functions of the immobilizer, the incoming wires are cut and connected to each other. The connection point is wrapped with electrical tape or soldered; the use of heat-shrinkable tubing is allowed.
  7. The control module housing is assembled, connected to the on-board network and checked for operation.

Electromagnetic waves appear around:

  • transformer substations;
  • welding machines;
  • microwave ovens;
  • industrial enterprises, etc.

This problem can cause the chip to break, but usually it appears in the form of failures that block the operation of the car's engine.

Problems with the key

In case of mechanical failure of the control element and failure of the tag itself, the help of service center specialists will be required. You can try to restore the chip if the damage is minor. If it is completely destroyed, you will have to contact an official dealer to order a duplicate key.

Often the problem of a non-working immobilizer key is associated with a discharge of the power supply installed inside.

In this case, the symptoms of problems will be identical to those of poor contact with the antenna module. The transmission of impulses will be interrupted. To solve the problem, you will need to replace the battery.

User Andrey Kuvshinov spoke in detail about self-repair of the engine blocker.

What is a VIN code and what information does it contain?

Every person goes to stores, buys different goods, and on each of them they can notice a mark such as a barcode. This code contains complete information about a specific product and its manufacturer. For a vehicle, a unique barcode is the VIN code. It is there that hides complete information about the car for the entire time that has passed from its release to the last moment of operation.

This 17-digit code, consisting of numbers and letters of the Latin alphabet, allows the motorist to find out the following information:

  • date of manufacture of the car and its features;
  • information about the vehicle manufacturer and the features of a specific model;
  • data about the events that happened to the car during its entire operation - mileage, fines and accidents, whether it was mortgaged, whether the car was the subject of theft, how many owners have changed;
  • necessary data to restore lost codes of various security systems;
  • other information that concerns the vehicle and all its owners.

Deciphering VIN codes on your own is not a reality, because to calculate the necessary data you need to use a special calculator. Users will be able to download this program for decoding codes onto their personal computers or mobile devices or decipher the VIN code online.

Systems with direct control of immobilizer functions by the vehicle driver

Making a car lift for a garage with your own hands

The direct participation of a person in protecting a car from opening security systems is by no means the craziest idea. The more automated the control of a car's immobilizer is, the higher the chances of it being hacked using all kinds of scanning equipment.

The most exotic version is the immobilizer, which has a built-in special sensor that can scan and recognize the driver’s fingerprint. The method is quite spectacular and can ensure high reliability of the immobilizer while complying with safety rules and not leaving fingerprints in places accessible to the criminal. Which is not always possible.

Therefore, in some expensive car models, conventional push-button dials are installed, in which the immobilizer function is duplicated by a digital code entered manually by the driver. In this case, there is no need to look for what the immobilizer looks like. But manually selecting a number sequence is very difficult and requires a huge amount of time. In this case, the code in the microcircuit can change each subsequent time the engine is started or parked for a long time with the engine running.

Another type of human participation in implementing the functions of protecting a car from unauthorized intrusion is the use of special wearable or personal keys with a chip. A transponder card or chip can be inserted into a plastic card or wristwatch, or any item of personal belongings, without drawing attention to its existence. The immobilizer control board can control the presence of the key and its contents in the car remotely.

This method has appeared as a response to the well-known method of car theft in the criminal world called “parachute”. Criminals choose the moment when the owner of the car stops for ten seconds after starting to move, for example, at a traffic light or a pedestrian crossing. Next comes a sudden attack on the driver and throwing him out of the car with the engine running. If the device system is working properly, it is impossible to steal a car unless the victim of the attack voluntarily reports or hands over the key, because criminals do not know what the immobilizer transponder looks like and where it is located.

This is how most stolen BMW X5 models were stolen in the Russian Federation. The control key to the car was taken away under the threat of violence, so the immobilizer system itself cannot guarantee successful counteraction to intruders.

What determines which code is used for a particular immobilizer?

Regardless of how expanded the functional range of immobilizers of different brands and models is, their main function is to protect the vehicle by blocking the engine. Each immobilizer has its own unique code that will help unlock the system in case of emergency. Its value can contain 4, 5 or 7 characters. How long the immobilizer code will be depends on the following indicators:

  • car make, model and production time;
  • immobilizer brand;
  • immobilizer release time;
  • the specific model of the blocking device and its power.

The size and meaning of the code depend on several indicators. Having studied them, you can determine exactly how many characters are hidden in the immobilizer code, but choosing the right combination is pointless, especially if you need to unlock the system urgently.

Disabling or bypassing the immobilizer

The process of disabling the blocker depends on the make and model of the car, but in general the following methods are used:

  1. Deactivate immo using a password. If there is a special code, the values are entered on the car’s dashboard, as a result of which the device recognizes and turns off.
  2. Disabling using a spare key. The immo antenna is connected to the chip from the spare key. Before this, the chip itself must be carefully removed from the key and taped to the antenna with electrical tape.
  3. Deactivating the device using a computer and special software.

You can make and install a device that will bypass the operation of the blocker so that the latter does not interfere with the operation of the car.

Items that will be required to manufacture the bypass module:

  • chip installed in the spare key;
  • a piece of wire;
  • Scotch tape and electrical tape;
  • relay.

The procedure for making a lineman is as follows:

  1. A 15 cm piece is cut from a roll of electrical tape.
  2. The electrical tape is then wrapped around the tape.
  3. At the next stage, a piece of wire or wire needs to be wound onto the resulting skein. Approximately about ten turns should come out.
  4. Then the electrical tape is cut slightly with a knife and wrapped on top.
  5. The electrical tape is removed and its excess parts are trimmed.
  6. The wiring is soldered to a piece of wire. The adhesion site must be isolated.

Where and how can I download the code calculator

Every vehicle owner can use the car code calculator without any problems. Such calculators work on a very simple principle, the essence of which lies in the following steps:

  • logging into the code calculator system;
  • search for a special field intended for entering data;
  • prescribing codes with the search term and indicating other personal data;
  • sending VIN or other code for decryption;
  • waiting for a response from the system and receiving the result.

In the calculator, you simply need to enter the VIN code in full and provide additional information about yourself. The system, after processing the entered data, will be able to send the user a full report on the work done, and send all the data that the user was interested in to his email account.

This calculator can be downloaded to most electronic and multimedia devices without any problems. To install a calculator for calculating the immobilizer code by VIN code, proceed as follows:

  • go to one of the search engines on the World Wide Web;
  • enter in a special line the request “download calculator for calculating the immobilizer code by VIN code”;
  • review several search engine results and find a licensed version of the program;
  • check the program file before downloading for viruses - for this, an antivirus must be installed on the device;
  • download the file in which the calculator is sealed and install it on a multimedia device;
  • open the program and enter all the data necessary for the calculation.

You won't have to wait long for the results. In addition to the lost immobilizer code, the user will have the opportunity to use the VIN code to find out a lot of useful information that relates to the features of his vehicle. Using the calculator will be absolutely free. Most often, a car is sold with a standard immobilizer installed in it and its code, like other data, is encrypted in the VIN code set.

Problem Resolution

What to do if the immobilizer blocked the engine from starting? First of all, make sure that it itself is functioning normally - the indicator on the dashboard (if there is one) indicates that the chip code is not recognized. If the indicator “shows no signs of life” when you turn on the ignition, then you should probably start by checking the electrical system - perhaps the fuse has blown in the section of the circuit where the immobilizer unit is powered.

Re-register a key that is not recognized by the system - this solves the problem. However, there are two ways to program the immobilizer. In the first case, which is used on most foreign cars, programming of key codes is carried out by a dealer diagnostic scanner, via an internal network (the request goes to the manufacturer’s servers). The entire set of keys is registered at one time, since at the beginning of the training procedure, data on previously registered keys is erased from memory. So the owner himself cannot do anything with the immobilizer: he turns to the official dealer of his brand or to a company specializing in such work. As a matter of fact, the existence of universal devices for training immobilizers “plays into the hands” of car thieves. And you should approach the choice of a company offering immobilizer training services more carefully - the car owner will not control how many keys are actually registered, and there may be an “extra” one for the future.

The second method of training the immobilizer involves the presence of a master key in the kit, which is used to program the others. This allows the owner to perform immobilizer training himself, but only if the master key itself is recognized. For example, the APS-6 unit, which is very familiar to VAZ owners starting with Kalina, has a similar learning mechanism.

To program “working” keys using a training key on the APS-6 unit, you need to:

  1. After closing the doors, turn on the ignition with the learning key.
  2. Wait at least 6 seconds, then turn off the ignition. The immobilizer indicator will blink rapidly, indicating the start of the learning procedure.
  3. Insert the registered key into the lock and turn on the ignition. Do this before the immobilizer light goes off. The buzzer will beep three times, indicating that the chip in the key has been recognized and read. If the indicator goes off and there are no beeps, this means either that the ignition is turned on too late (repeat step 1 onwards) or that the immobilizer is faulty.
  4. Wait until two more beeps sound. This confirms that the key code is stored in the controller's memory.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the remaining keys.
  6. After turning off the ignition with the last key you registered, with a pause of no more than 6 seconds, you need to reinsert the training key into the lock and turn on the ignition. First, three beeps will sound, then two more.
  7. Turn off the ignition, but do not remove the key from the lock until you hear a single signal. The blinking frequency of the immobilizer indicator increases. If not, go back to step 1 and try again. A secondary error will clearly indicate that training with this master key is impossible. Therefore, contact the service.
  8. When a single signal is heard, you need to quickly turn on the ignition. The buzzer will sound three times and the immobilizer indicator will go off. After 2-3 seconds, turn off the ignition. The car will respond by flashing the hazard lights and beeping.
  9. Remove the learning key. Before checking the operation of the registered key, wait at least 10 seconds.

The procedure looks complicated, but it ensures that the user cannot accidentally trigger relearning by simply using the master key to turn on the ignition.

In some systems without a master key, the manufacturer provides emergency PIN codes for key programming. On old Renaults, the PIN code is calculated through the Trantir program using the code printed inside the key body; on Kia/Hyundais up to 2007, it is determined by the last digits of the VIN, even without special programs (online services), and so on. The code entry itself is performed both by standard means of the car (Renault has an interior door lock button) and through the diagnostic connector. In this case, you will have to buy an adapter for old cars with inexpensive devices like VAG K-Line from Aliexpress. You can find the necessary software on the Internet. The already mentioned Kia/Hyundai uses the Cascade program, in which the immobilizer learning process is interactive and placed in the corresponding menu item.

Do I need to be connected to the Internet to use the code calculator?

To download a program that can read and decipher different codes and meanings, you must first find it on the Internet. After downloading, the code calculator will become a regular program that will always be present on the working panel of your mobile device or PC. But is downloading the program enough to restore the immobilizer code using the VIN code? This is not enough and the reasons for this response were the following features of the system:

  • all data about cars is stored in an online database and in order to receive it, the program must have an Internet connection;
  • if the user would like to download such a data table, the process will not be possible, because it takes up too much memory and must be constantly updated, but this is impossible in offline mode;
  • Only an Internet connection will allow the system to calculate current data on the VIN number, and not read outdated information.

Immobilizer Check

Before you start searching for the cause of the immobilizer failure, you should check and correct, if necessary, the following parts of the car:

  • Battery, and in case of insufficient charge, recharge.
  • Use the original ignition key specific to the vehicle model being used.
  • Remove other electronic and gadget devices that can interfere with the immobilizer signal.

You can check the functionality of the device by wrapping the key in food foil and inserting the lock into its ignition. If the key indicator on the dashboard does not light up due to signal shielding, the car will not start. When the foil is removed, the engine should start.

VIN code and immobilizer code are the first things a person should know when buying a car.

If a person went to a dealership and decided to buy a new car, then the presence of an immobilizer on it is a common thing, and VIN-CON is present on absolutely all cars. When purchasing, the driver must find out the meanings of these two encodings, because the vehicle will become his property and knowledge of its features will help to avoid problems in the future.

When buying a car that has already been used, it is worth finding out these two codes or at least the VIN code for the following reasons:

  • the VIN code will help to read complete information about the vehicle and the previous owner will not be able to hide any unpleasant facts from the buyer;
  • The immobilizer code will allow you to effectively use the security system and, if necessary, change its settings;
  • The immobilizer code will help you find out how effective this device really is;
  • The VIN code will help you check any car for theft and, if you lose the immobilizer code, calculate it.

Determining the immobilizer code by VIN is an easy process, but you also need to know the VIN. Using the VIN code, the calculator reads all data about the car and allows you to restore the operation of systems to which access was completely or partially lost. The immobilizer code is a security element of the security system. After all, in order to hack it you will have to enter exactly this value. Attackers will not spend half a day trying to figure out codes to steal a car and will simply leave it alone.

A VIN code is a 17-digit set of numbers and letters that allows you to find out information about a specific car, including the immobilizer code. If the code card is lost or a similar problematic situation occurs, do not despair, because a special calculator and VIN code will allow you to calculate the required combination in a short time. It's fast, simple, and most importantly, absolutely free and available to every car owner.

How is an immobilizer different from an alarm system?

Despite the fact that both devices are designed to prevent theft, their principle of operation and purpose are significantly different:

The alarm notifies the owner of an attempt to break into the locks or access of intruders to the interior, trunk or engine compartment. This is done using sound and light signals, as well as through a key fob (in models with feedback). The immobilizer immobilizes the car and prevents the thief from starting the engine to take possession of the car.

Some immobilizer models provide an anti-robbery mode. In this case, the engine stalls only when the car moves some distance away from the owner.

How can I find out if my car has an immobilizer?

Fanatus Vulgaris

You don’t need to show it to anyone, it’s very easy to check. wrap the part of the key that you hold with your fingers in foil from under the chip and try to start the car, since the chip is in the handle of the key, the foil will screen the signal from the chip in the key and the immobilizer will not receive a signal to unlock, as a result the car will start, but after a couple of seconds will stall. that's how you'll find out.

Without getting up from your computer, you can determine the vehicle's equipment at the manufacturer. Right here !

For free. According to the vehicle VIN, it is true that registration is required, but it will not hurt when ordering spare parts and searching for part numbers.

But. 1. If something has been tampered with in a car with an immobilizer, the manufacturer does not know it, and neither does this site.

2. There really should be a red round light bulb - but it can burn and go out, following the will of Belarusian or Lithuanian auto electricians.

3. The key manufacturer can only determine whether there is a chip in the key, but he cannot know whether there is a working immobilizer in the car.

4. The most reliable option is maux10n

- foil. But it’s a little weird for me to advise this. Suddenly something wrong gets blocked, the auto brain is no joke. And roads.

How can you find out if there is a standard alarm without a trip to the dealer? We don’t have a dealer in our city, but the question is bothering me. In the package I found: LMGP: Automatic Headlamps LNJP: Fog Lamps LSAP: Security Alarm

MLEP: Front Body Color/Chrome Fascia MLVP: Rear Body Color/Chrome Fascia

What does this mean? standing, but not active?

LSAP: Security Alarm

. . . What does this mean? standing, but not active?

In my opinion, this is not really about signaling, i.e. about the alarm system, but not about the anti-theft one. Correct me if I'm wrong with my knowledge of English.

About the immobilizer

it should be written, for example:
GXXS Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System
And about the alarm - I can’t find what it should be, but, Security Alarm - IMHO - Emergency alarm.

Opening cars of any brand

We open the locks of doors, hood, trunk, anti-theft locks with master keys and a special tool. At the same time, the paintwork of the car remains intact, the door glass is intact, and the geometry of the body parts does not change. Our specialists have thousands of open machines. In some cases, when it is impossible to open a lock with a master key, other tools and technologies are used that make up the master’s know-how. But the result of the work is always the same: an open car and satisfied customers.

Disabling the immobilizer

Immobilizer - a technical device designed to block the engine - a component of the anti-theft system. As a result of a malfunction in the electronics or mechanical components of the engine, the immobilizer may not function properly. In this case, even the owner of the car, who has all the necessary rights to the car, will not be able to start the engine. Our experts know all immobilizer designs. Any of them can be disabled without causing damage to other components of the vehicle's security system. If the car does not start for no apparent reason, the immobilizer may be faulty. Invite our engineer and he will get rid of this trouble in the shortest possible time.

Auto electrical repair

No headlights or turn signals? Are the devices lying? Has the battery died? You can't go far in a modern car without electricity! If something is wrong, the car simply won’t move. Or it will go, but traveling on it is dangerous. Keyhelp specialists will help in case of any malfunction.

Work performed:

  • Accumulator charging
  • Replacing fuses
  • Replacing lamps
  • Battery replacement
  • Ignition system repair
  • Relay and switch replacement

Production of ignition keys with and without chip*

In modern cars, the ignition key is a complex electronic device that not only unlocks the car doors and turns the ignition switch. The key tells the car's security system that it is the owner who is trying to gain access to it. The key contains an electronic chip containing a unique code known to the car's security system. The mechanical part of the ignition switch can be turned with another key or a special tool, but the engine will not start, since the control system has not received a unique key code. If you have lost the key to your car, we are ready to help you. Our technicians can make a key for your car on the spot, and if the alarm key fob is lost, the technician will simply turn it off. More details here.

* All work related to opening the car, disabling the alarm, immobilizer, or making keys will be performed by the master after presenting documents confirming your ownership of the car.
