From January to May this year, Russians spent 963 billion rubles on the purchase of new cars, Autostat calculated, of which 867 were on foreign cars. “Almost all the major theft leaders are occupied by Korean cars. This is a direct consequence of changes in the structure of the Russian car market. Korean brands sell a lot of cars, which are the basis for the most comprehensive insurance policies, and of course, “More theft. “It became impossible to transport stolen cars, primarily premium cars, to other territories, and groups of car thieves from neighboring countries did not come to our country,” said Ilya Grigoriev, director of the auto insurance department at Alfastrakhovanie. - Renault Logan is another budget car originally from France. This B-class sedan, despite its rather weak equipment (the basic equipment does not include a power steering control, power steering and power windows), is popular among St. Petersburg residents and car thieves (157 thefts).
- Mazda CX-5. The Japanese all-wheel drive city SUV has been produced since 2012, so car thieves have already learned all the intricacies of hacking the standard anti-theft system. In the first half of the year, 112 cars were stolen.

Without dividing the market by class, the top 10 list is better for laughs than for analysis. Of course, it doesn't help much that the Mercedes-AMG GT is among the top ten best sellers. Because in 2019, 14 cars of this type were sold in Russia. However, by segmenting the market by class, it is already possible to draw conclusions.

According to AEB, segment B in Russia occupies 39.8% of the automobile market. And what is in demand in the primary market gradually flows into the secondary market, and from there into theft.
The leader of the criminal class, as in the 2022 article, is the Hyundai Solaris. Its share of thefts even increased from 1.7 to 2%. However, the reason is not an increase in the number of thefts, but a decrease in sales. They sold 90,000 Korean CDs in 2017, but less than 60,000 in 2022.
The second line inside the class has also not changed. Wearing a Kia Rio. But unlike Solaris, its theft rate remained virtually unchanged at 1.26% versus 1.2% three years earlier.

DE classes
We decided to combine the mass segments D and E due to blurred boundaries between models of different generations. If previously the Ford Mondeo or Skoda Superb were representatives of the D class, today their dimensions and wheelbase are comparable to the Toyota Camry, which is usually registered in the E segment. And in general, this class is subjective with the most blurred boundaries.
Due to Ford's withdrawal from the Russian market and ridiculous sales, the Ford Mondeo became the leader in thefts here - 8.87%. It is followed by the Volkswagen Passat with 6.41%. Subaru Legacy closes the top three with a share of 6.28%.
Such a radical change is not due to the increased demand for stealers for Mondeo, Passat and Legacy, but to the modest sales of these models.
The leaders of the 2022 anti-rating in 2019 also remained under threat. This time, Toyota Camry and Mazda 6 take fourth and fifth places. And only Kia Optima dropped to ninth place with 0.87%.

1 . INFINITI EX35
Next on the list is the Infiniti EX35. This model is equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces 297 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, and for the 2011 model year the car is equipped with a seven-speed automatic transmission. The Infiniti EX35 was the first production car to offer Around View Monitor (AVD), an in-vehicle option that uses small cameras mounted on the front, side and rear to allow the driver to see the vehicle from above while parking.
2.MAZDA MIATA
Coming in at number nine on the list of least stolen cars is the popular Mazda MX-5 Miata, a lightweight two-seat roadster with rear-wheel drive and front engine. The 2011 Miata is part of the third-generation model lineup launched in 2006. Miata enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the debut of the next production model, which is currently being developed with Alfa Romeo. How this model earned such disfavor among car thieves is anyone's guess.
3. TOYOTA PRIUS
Another hybrid on our list. The likelihood that a Toyota Prius will attract the attention of burglars is very low, at least that's what the statistics say. The Prius, the first mass-produced hybrid car, has become the most popular hybrid car on the road and has recently sold more than three million units worldwide. But we are not talking about successful sales of the model, but about the lack of trust in hybrid cars on the part of car thieves. Read the reasons above.
SUBARU FORESTER
The Subaru Forester takes sixth place in our ranking of the most unstoppable cars this year, with a rate of 0.1 thefts per 1,000 units produced in 2011. The fourth generation 2011 Forester marks the model's transition from a traditional minivan to an SUV. Yes, the Forester has evolved over the years and, essentially, we now have a mid-size crossover.
5 . LEXUS CT
Opening with our “top” car, the Lexus CT, is an entry-level hybrid. The CT 200h is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 98 horsepower and 105 Nm of torque, paired with a 134-horsepower electric motor with 153 Nm of torque. According to the latest data available today (2012), there were only 0.2 thefts per 1,000 units produced. 6. VOLVO XC60
It probably won’t be news to anyone that Volvo cars are considered the safest, but now the company can confidently say that their cars are the least likely to be stolen. The 2010 XC60 from the Swedish automaker opens our top five. Most recently, Volvo gave the 2014 XC60 a minor update that tweaked the crossover's design a bit but kept the same 240-horsepower, 3.2-liter V-6 under the hood. The sportier T6 model is available with a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 325 horsepower.
HYUNDAI VERACRUZE
Hyundai Veracruz ranks fourth in the ranking of the most anti-theft cars in the world and is the only Korean-made car in the top ten. Production of the crossover ceased in 2011; Hyundai replaced it with the new Santa Fe model, which can now comfortably accommodate seven passengers. How does theft happen?

There are fewer thefts, and almost all of them are solved
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in 2022, fewer cars began to be stolen in Russia - and this trend has continued for the second year. Officially, 1,877 cars were stolen in the country this year.

It turns out that fewer and fewer cars are stolen in Russia every year. And if in 2020 this was associated with the pandemic and lockdown, then the reasons for the decrease in the number of thefts in 2022 have yet to be understood.
But first, it’s worth understanding what theft is and how it differs from car theft:

Hence the high clearance rate of such cases - the police solved 95.7% of thefts in 2021, and in 2020 it was also about 95%. But you should understand that solving a theft, if it was teenagers who opened the car in order to drive a couple of blocks, is not at all the same as saving a foreign car that was stolen and immediately taken to another region for dismantling.

Methods of protection against vehicle theft

More expensive does not mean safer
Last month, the All-Russian Union of Insurers (VUS) published a rating of cars based on their degree of protection against theft. The assessment was based on three criteria: how well the car is protected from opening (250 points), from unauthorized starting and engine movement (475 points) and from creating a duplicate key and changing body and chassis numbers (225 points).

For example, if it has a proximity entry system installed (where the car opens without a key but starts from a button on the dashboard), the likelihood of theft increases significantly. Such machines, with rare exceptions, open in seconds, which cannot be said about models that do not have contactless access.
What to do if they don’t give your car back after it’s stolen
- If the number plates on the car have been changed, then the car owner must receive a photocopy of an expert opinion from the forensic department about this fact.

However, not everything is so simple; the traffic police does not simply return a found car. Such clarifications can be obtained from the traffic police. And it turns out that they contradict themselves.
Having received such a refusal, the actions of the traffic police officers can be appealed.
