How to independently activate and disable the immobilizer on a Lada Priora

Elegant Lada model

The Lada Priora car is not only an expensive and maintenance-requiring thing, but also a true friend. It allows you to move freely over long distances, transport necessary loads, facilitates a person’s work and helps to relax. This car is the pearl of the domestic automobile industry.

It has a beautiful appearance, a roomy and comfortable interior and excellent driving performance. This car is well suited for the whole family, for traveling around the city and traveling long distances on the highway. So this car becomes a second home for the driver. Therefore, Priora should be treated with care and stored in a safe place.

It is especially important to follow anti-theft safety rules, as cases of car theft are not uncommon. Of course, if the car is stored in a garage or in a parking lot, then the risk of theft is low. However, it is not always possible to park the Lada Priora in a guarded parking lot, garage, or even just in a safe place. After all, the road can take you anywhere! That is why anti-theft means were invented, allowing the driver to be sure that no one could steal his car.

The principle of operation of the immobilizer in Priora

The anti-theft immobilizer allows you to start the engine only after recognizing the key installed in the ignition switch.

The operating principle of such a device looks like this:

  1. There is a special identification chip in the head of the key.
  2. The signal from this chip is sensed by a ring antenna made of many turns of thin copper wire.
  3. The antenna is located around the ignition switch cylinder.
  4. The read signal is transmitted to the control unit, which compares it with the reference one and activates or prohibits starting the engine.
  5. The immobilizer unit is connected via the K-Line bus to the fuel pump control unit, engine ECU and ignition system.
  6. If the key is not recognized, these systems are blocked. In this case, the crankshaft may be cranked by the starter, and the immobilizer system warning icon will light up on the instrument cluster.

What to do if the engine is accidentally blocked?

If for some unknown reason the engine was blocked, then most likely you did something wrong and the immobilizer activated another function, which caused the blocking.

A lot depends on what kind of protection system is installed. But in any case, you need to pay attention to the information on the key fob.

If the StarLine immobilizer is installed, then if a problem occurs, the IMMO inscription on the key fob will be activated, and the light will blink frequently.

Algorithm of actions:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition switch;
  2. Press the central locking button.
  3. Try starting the engine again.

Or:

  1. Leave the car;
  2. Set the alarm in security mode;
  3. Wait a few seconds.
  4. Remove the car from the alarm system.
  5. Start the engine.

How to activate the immobilizer?

Before starting use, it is recommended to activate the immobilizer.

In order to do this, you must follow these instructions:

  1. Take both standard keys, get behind the wheel and close the door behind you.
  2. Insert the key with the red mark (training) into the lock and turn on the ignition.
  3. After six seconds, turn off the ignition system. The indicator lamp in the instrument cluster will flash approximately 5 times per second, which is a sign of a normal learning process. If this does not happen, there may be problems with the immobilizer system or faulty components.
  4. While the warning light is flashing, you must remove the red key, insert a regular key into the lock and activate the ignition. This procedure should be completed within six seconds. The buzzer will confirm that the training has been completed correctly with three short beeps.
  5. Wait another six seconds, after which the buzzer should sound two additional signals. If this does not happen and the warning light stops flashing rapidly, then the learning process has failed and should be started again. If re-learning is also unsuccessful, then you should look for a malfunction in the system or key, which could have been previously trained for a different immobilizer.
  6. If training is successful, turn off the ignition. If it is necessary to train additional keys, then such actions are performed with each one.
  7. If you do not need to register additional keys, then immediately after the sound signals you must turn off the ignition and remove the regular key and replace it with a red one.
  8. Turn on the ignition and receive confirmation in the form of three beeps with the buzzer.
  9. In six seconds, two more signals should pass. After this, you can turn off the ignition, but do not remove the key from the lock.
  10. Six seconds after turning off the ignition circuits, the buzzer should sound once and the flashing frequency of the lamp should increase.
  11. After this, turn on the ignition (within 5...6 seconds) using the red key and turn it off after three seconds.
  12. After a few seconds, the buzzer should sound (three beeps) and the lamp on the instrument cluster should go out. The ignition can be turned on again no earlier than after 10 seconds. When using some controllers, sound signals may appear immediately when the ignition is turned off.

Malfunctions and their elimination

One of the problems of APS Priora is the implementation of a data exchange mechanism between the immobilizer and the vehicle's ECM via a diagnostic line. In this case, malfunctions occur in the system - the immobilizer signal lights up on the instrument panel and the engine does not start.

The code in the immobilizer may go wrong:

  • from connecting diagnostic equipment;
  • from the appearance of induced currents from the cell phone transmitter,
  • from voltage surges in the vehicle's on-board network.
  • from zero charge in the battery.

In the latest Priora models, an emergency shutdown procedure for the anti-theft system has been implemented. It is necessary to activate this function and register a password in the ECU. Then, if an emergency situation occurs with the APS, you can, by manipulating the gas pedal according to the factory instructions, start the car, ignoring the immobilizer blocking.

What is an immobilizer for?

In addition to protecting the car from theft, the immobilizer performs a number of additional functions:

  • the ability to control the delay for turning off the interior lighting;
  • control of the rear fog lamp;
  • checking the presence of the key in the ignition when opening the doors and giving a warning signal to the driver (one buzzer flashes in the instrument cluster);
  • signaling that the external lighting is not turned off when the ignition is turned off (double buzzer signal).

Positive sides

The positive characteristics of using a standard immobilizer include:

  • inability to start the car engine by turning the ignition lock cylinder or using a key without a chip;
  • the ability to control the central locking using the standard key;
  • when using a standard alarm system, it works in conjunction with the immobilizer, which provides additional protection;
  • implementation of additional comfort functions;
  • possibility of diagnosing the unit using a scanner.

Negative sides

The disadvantages of an immobilizer usually include the following points:

  1. The main disadvantage of the device is its unreliability. Quite often there are key failures, as a result of which the unit does not see the chip. This drawback forces owners to carry with them a second key from the set (with a red mark).
  2. The complexity of the training scheme and the risk of errors in the process.
  3. It is impossible to ensure automatic engine start without installing a bypass device or completely disabling the immobilizer.
  4. If the standard control unit is faulty, it is impossible to disable it yourself.

Reliable protection against car theft

One of the most effective means against car theft is an immobilizer. This is an electronic device that blocks fuel injection in case of unauthorized access to the car. If the immobilizer is activated, then the Priora will not budge without a special permission signal.

As a rule, this signal can only be given by a special key that the owner of the car must have. If attackers decide to break the immobilizer, the car’s electronic systems will be blocked and the car will not go anywhere. So such a device is a very effective method of resisting car theft.

The presence of an immobilizer may be provided by the car manufacturer. This device is called a standard immobilizer. Although some car factories still prefer simple standard alarms, which do not prevent theft, but only notify the owner about it and scare thieves. All configurations of the Lada Priora contain an immobilizer, but it must be activated for it to work.

How to disable the immobilizer

If the immobilizer breaks down or malfunctions, the car owner is faced with a choice - replace the control unit or disable the system. A more rational solution, from a security point of view, would be to purchase a new control unit and keys, but there is no guarantee that this unit will last long. Another solution would be to deactivate the system. To disable the immobilizer unit, several methods are used that will require the performer to have knowledge in electronics. If you do not have such skills, then it is wiser to take the car to a service center, where the unit will be turned off by qualified specialists.

Using a crawler

A bypass device is often used when installing alarm systems with auto start. The operating principle of such a device is based on the use of a separate unit with a standard key or chip installed inside. The unit is located in the car interior under the plastic trim of the pillars or in the instrument panel.

The signal from the key or chip is read by the unit's antenna and transmitted to the ignition switch. The crawler is controlled using a separate relay. If necessary, the crawler can be set to permanently exclude the immobilizer from the circuit. The car can be started with a key without a chip, but data will be supplied to the immobilizer from the bypass device control unit.

One of the classic devices is the Starline crawler model BP-03, which can work in conjunction with any security alarms. Device connection options are shown in the photo below.

Basic connection option

Connection without a standard antenna

In addition to the key crawler, you can use keyless devices that emulate the signal from the chip. The operating principle of the devices is the same. The main disadvantage of this scheme is the retention of a standard immobilizer on board, so this option can only be recommended if security systems with auto start are installed.

Without a lineman

If the car owner does not want to install the crawler himself, then he can remove the immobilizer only by reprogramming the ECM system units.

On some blocks you will have to change the layout of the elements, but on others - not. Such products include the ECM model M73 manufactured by Avtel.

Before starting work, you must remove the unit from the car and connect a standard K-Line type adapter according to the diagram below. You will have to make the transition wiring harness from the unit to the adapter yourself.

Connecting the M73 block

After this you need to proceed as follows:

  1. Install the OpenBox software on your computer, run it and read the stock EEPROM firmware.
  2. Save the factory EEPROM data for rollback to its original state (if necessary) and modification.
  3. Download and install the HxD file editor and open the downloaded firmware.
  4. Add a line consisting of two FF characters at the beginning of the text and save the change.
  5. Load the corrected file into the block memory. You can use ready-made versions of untrained firmware that are publicly available.
  6. Disconnect the unit and install it back on the car.

To disable the immobilizer in the January 7.2 block, it is necessary to assemble the following circuit (based on the K-Line adapter), where there is a positive wire switch that acts as an ignition switch.

ECM connection diagram January 7.2 to disable the immobilizer

Then follow the steps:

  1. Install ChipLoader version 1.97.7 or newer on your computer or laptop.
  2. Launch the program and select the desired block type.
  3. Connect to the unit using the “establish connection” function.
  4. Read EEPROM chip data.
  5. Click the “delete IMMO” button, after which the program will automatically correct the data in the file.
  6. Close the program window, disconnect the unit from the wiring and return it to the car.

Removing immobilizer data from EEPROM
On M74 type units, you must do the following:

  1. Disconnect the battery from the car.
  2. Remove the connectors from the block.
  3. Install a homemade harness on the block (according to the diagram below). The circuit should use a double switch, which will allow voltage to be supplied in stages.
  4. Connect the circuit via the VAG-COM cord.
  5. Connect the circuit to the battery.
  6. Turn on the first key of the switch, through which the programming permission signal will be sent.
  7. Run the WinFlashECU program on your computer, in the settings window of which you select the block type and data transfer speed (the speed should be set to the minimum).
  8. Turn on the second key, after which a notification about the start of communication with the block will appear in the program window.
  9. Save the standard firmware of the unit and EEPROM and replace them with new ones. The flashing time may take several minutes.
  10. After finishing the firmware, turn off the program, power and wiring.
  11. After connecting the unit to the vehicle's on-board network, it may be necessary to adapt the zero throttle position. To do this, perform engine braking several times from 4 thousand revolutions to a thousand in second gear.

It should be noted that all flashing methods require the owner to have knowledge in electronics and software. If you doubt your own abilities, it is better to seek help from a service center.

Find immobilizer

To manipulate the immobilizer, you need to know where it is located. The standard location of the device is the vehicle's locking tab. The anti-theft device is secured with one screw, so removing it is not difficult. The antenna connector is located deep in the car panel, right behind the rubberized steering column curtain.

Resolder the chip in the control unit

Disabling the immobilizer by resoldering the elements is possible in a Bosch 7.9.7 type engine control unit. After changing the design, a new version of untrained EEPROM firmware with immobilizer functions disabled is downloaded into a special microcircuit of the unit.

To complete the work you will need:

  • computer or laptop;
  • Chiploader software or similar installed on a computer;
  • EEPROM firmware with untrained immobilizer;
  • adapter with a K-Line connector or any OBD 2 standard diagnostic cord;
  • special cord for connecting to the unit;
  • Bosch 7.9.7 controller removed from the car;
  • low-power soldering iron or hair dryer for re-soldering;
  • flux and solder;
  • DC voltage source 12 V;
  • a switch that simulates the operation of the ignition switch.

At the first stage, you need to manually solder one resistor with a resistance of 6.8 kOhm on the board. The component transfer diagram is shown in the photo.

Resistor that needs to be moved to another location

After this, you need to connect to the controller according to the diagram.

Involved pins of Bosch 7.9.7 controller

The following contacts in the connector are used for connection:

  • pins numbered 43, 51 and 53 are used to supply a negative voltage of 12 V;
  • a positive 12 V signal is supplied to pins 12, 44 and 63;
  • pin 13 receives a +12 V signal from the switch, which simulates ignition activation;
  • The K-Line signal is connected to pin 71.

Author Vlad V demonstrates the process of resoldering elements in a Bosch unit to disable the immobilizer.

After this, you can begin reprogramming, for which you need to:

  1. Connect the assembled system to the computer.
  2. Launch Chiploader and select the desired type of control unit from the menu.
  3. Turn on the ignition signal.
  4. Press the connection button in the program menu.
  5. Read and save the stock EEPROM firmware, which may be useful if the update fails.
  6. Load clean EEPROM firmware into the unit’s memory.

The block is ready for flashing

Chiploader program menu
After flashing, you can return the resistor to its original place, this will allow you to enable the immobilizer in the future. If there is no such goal, then the resistor does not need to be soldered. With this method of disabling the immobilizer, the functionality of the standard alarm system controlled by the factory key is maintained.

The previously used method of resoldering the EEPROM chip is not currently used, since there are many ways to change the software in the chip's memory without dismantling it.

To solder and reprogram the chip you will need:

  • soldering hair dryer;
  • programmer;
  • computer or laptop.

To re-solder you need to do the following:

  1. Remove the block from the car.
  2. Find the EEPROM chip (for example, on January blocks it is marked as 24C04).
  3. Desolder the microcircuit with a soldering hair dryer.
  4. Install the soldered chip into the programmer and read the contents of the memory.
  5. Upload new firmware with an untrained immobilizer. Alternatively, you can install a new chip with untrained memory.
  6. Solder the chip into its original place and install the unit on the car.

Disconnect the control unit

It is impossible to remove the immobilizer unit on the Lada Priora, since it is built into the glass unit control unit or the central element of the body electronics. Disabling it will lead to loss of performance of the vehicle as a whole. The immobilizer unit can be disabled only on those AvtoVAZ vehicles where it is made as a separate unit. Examples of such cars are Lada Kalina or Chevrolet Niva.

Where is

In the LADA Priora car, the automatic anti-theft system (APS) is structurally built into the electrical package unit (comfort unit). Depending on the year of manufacture of the car, its location may be different. In early Priora models, it was located under the center console (beard), which is located in the middle of the dashboard. Under the electrical package unit in these models there was an electronic engine control system (ECM) or an electronic control unit (ECU).

In subsequent modifications of the Lada Priora car, the comfort unit, in which the immobilizer is located, was placed on the left side of the mounting block by the designers. The latter contains relays and fuses. Due to the fact that the electrical package unit is fixed to the surface of the body, behind the mounting block, it is difficult to get to it.

According to factory technology, to dismantle the comfort unit, it is necessary to disassemble part of the instrument panel, which is long and difficult. But there is another way:

  1. Before performing any operations on the vehicle's electrical equipment, be sure to remove the contact terminal from the negative electrode of the battery. Remove the plastic panel from under the steering wheel by unlocking the mounting fasteners.
  2. The mounting block becomes visible, behind it the assembly with the immobilizer is screwed in a perpendicular position. Blindly, use your hands to approach the 3 wiring connectors of the electrical package unit and disconnect them.
  3. Using a bell wrench with a working head of 10, unscrew the 2 mounting bolts that hold the electrical package unit by touch. The bolts are not visible, they are located behind the fuse box.
  4. Carefully remove the assembly; it can only be removed in one position.

Everyone does it! And I did! =))) Flip key — Lada Priora Hatchback, 1.6 l., 2010 on DRIVE2

Hello everyone! =)))I ordered myself a flip key from ru.aliexpress.com from VW! Not expensive, only 133 rubles. It arrived without a blade (key blank) and without a retainer (blade retainer). The fact that there was no blade is not a problem, but it would have been more convenient to grind out the seat for your own blade.

I went to the housekeeper. VAZ key blanks are short and if they are inserted into a flip key, then when folded there will be a lot of empty space in the groove, this is not very nice. They picked up a blank for me from some foreign car, the blank was completely iron and quite long.

After they cut out my key design, the price was 300 rubles, !robbery! =))))) I went to a friend’s garage to adjust the seat. Using a grinder, sandpaper and needle files, I fitted the blade into the key. The seat must be turned out carefully so as not to loosen.

Unfortunately there are no photos, but the drive is full of information.

Initially, I decided to secure the key using a copper cotter pin (a piece of wire strand). He didn’t want to get stuck, he bent, but I still got him in. The next day the blade appeared to have some play due to the copper retainer.

I had to look for something stronger, with the required diameter.

I got my hands on Chinese watch screwdrivers =))) Having selected the required diameter, I replaced the cotter pin, having lost one screwdriver =))) Then I’ll need to use a small core to slightly flare the cotter pin on both sides.

Oh! Yes! Of course the buttons don't work! Although there is a website where you can order the same key, in which a microcircuit will be made that will perform the functions of the factory key (standard alarm and immobilizer). The price of such a key is 1500 rubles.

In the ignition it certainly sticks out more than the factory one.

The only negative, in my opinion, is that due to its blade position, turning the key to the “starter” position is not very convenient. It’s convenient to insert it, turning it to the “ignition” position is also convenient, but not so much to the “starter” position. Who knows will understand. This is how the key turned out! =)))

Good luck to everyone on the roads! =))

Price: 433 ₽ Mileage: 48,000 km

Let's sum it up

Upon completion of the entire list of manipulations, this chip key can be considered trained. Sometimes the first attempt, when the key is trained, may not bring the expected result. You should not despair, because if you repeat the procedure, the situation is guaranteed to improve. And now you know how to register the key correctly.

Welcome! Immobilizer - This is a device thanks to which the car breaks the chain in the system (which chain the car chooses to break), thanks to this the car will either not start, or it will start but after a very short time it will stall, but over time such moments happen that the immobilizer you have to train, this happens for various reasons, for example, you need to change the password for the immobilizer (This is very useful when strangers find out the password for the immobilizer), or if you lose the working keys (the working key is the one that starts the car), the immobilizer also has to be retrained, otherwise the car just won't work.

Note! To retrain the immobilizer, you just need to stock up on: A working key, as well as a training key (It is included with the purchase of the car)!

Where is the immobilizer located? It is located behind the center console (this console is indicated by a red arrow), this was done for security purposes so that criminals could not quickly get to it, but still, even if you turn off the immobilizer or disconnect the wire block from it, the car still won’t start, because besides this, there are also brains (Controller) with which you will also need to tinker, for clarity so that you understand its location (We indicate the location only so that you can change it in case you lose the training keys, or if you want to disable immobilizer) just below we have placed a photo, on it the approximate location of this device is circled, and in a small picture it is indicated with a blue arrow and in this picture the center console is also removed, as you have already noticed.

When do you need to train your immobilizer? Let's look at the most common reasons, firstly, it needs training when buying a car, although the car service workers themselves will most likely do this for you or even before you arrive, then they will simply explain how to use it, in addition, when replacing the brains (Controller), the immobilizer is accurate it also needs training as when buying a new car, even if you lose working keys, you need to train it (We already mentioned this at the beginning of the article), when replacing the immobilizer itself with a new one, and to change the password if you think that someone has recognized it (Intruders , for example, when you sell a car) it also needs training (If you change the password, you will not train it, but retrain the existing data).

Lada Kalina: changing the standard ignition key to a folding one

April 25, 2016

In the third year of operation, the standard ignition key from the editorial Lada Kalina died for a long time. The same one that is familiar to all owners of modern Lada models, as well as Datsun sedans and hatchbacks and UAZ Patriot all-terrain vehicles - with a protruding sting and three buttons. Most likely, the reason for the failure was the printed circuit board: at first, the battery charge began to last only for a week, and then even installing a new battery ceased to revive the domestic craft.

Craftsmen on the forums tell how they restored their keys. But it is unlikely that even among the owners of domestic cars there are now many people who remember that before soldering it is necessary to dip the soldering iron in rosin, and the word “tin” is not perceived as a personal insult.

So I went a different route. First, I called official dealers and was horrified by the prices: the officials are ready to sell a standard key and program it for a specific immobilizer for “only” 2,500 rubles.

Two and a half thousand - and in your hands you will find a key that has set your teeth on edge, the plus of which is that you can always uncork a bottle of carbonated drink with it, and the minus is that it regularly damages your pockets.

Or linings in a purse.

I found an alternative in the famous Tolyatti GSK “Plamya” - a garage cooperative, where sellers of spare parts for domestic cars have settled in dozens of boxes since time immemorial.

I remember how, during my university years, a teacher who also worked at AVTOVAZ was surprised: they say, we are just finishing testing the promising Kalina, and “Plame” already has components for it! If it’s not convenient for you to go to Tolyatti, you can look for an alternative on the Internet - there are plenty of offers from both Chinese sites and domestic retailers.

One way or another, I settled on a key for 1,500 rubles, which not only exactly copies the “clamshell” for Audi models, but along with the mark of a famous brand bears the proud inscription Made in Germany.

I specifically compared this blank with a first-generation Audi Q7 key and discovered the only difference was in the metal blank for cutting the bit.

Audi and Lada ignition switches are different, so sellers replaced the flat German “blade” with a sting with horizontal slots. All that remains is to grind out a suitable beard (another 150 rubles) and train a new key to work with Kalina’s standard immobilizer.

In order for the master to make a groove on both sides, he had to disassemble the new key. Usually, to replace the switch blade, it is enough to knock out the pin at its base, but Togliatti craftsmen modernized the design by attaching it to glue, so they had to arm themselves with a screwdriver.

The instructions for training a key to work with the APS-6 immobilizer, found on the Internet, initially caused confusion: at first glance, it seems that it is simply impossible to remember in what sequence to change the training key to a new one, how many times the buzzer should beep and the indicator should blink. And the human body is not at all capable of keeping within a six-second interval between these actions. However, everything turned out to be much simpler - and our video is evidence of this.

A video from the author Dmitriy Epishev demonstrates desoldering the microcircuit and resetting the data on the programmer.

All cars are equipped with standard anti-theft devices - immobilizers. In domestic cars, due to the poor quality of the system, emergency situations often arise. The immobilizer indicator lights up, the anti-theft system blocks the ignition and fuel supply - the vehicle does not start. You need to know how to disable the immobilizer on a Priora if the anti-theft system malfunctions.

Characteristic features of immo for a Granta car

ATTENTION! A completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption has been found! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also didn’t believe it until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline! Despite the fact that the Granta belongs to the budget car segment, its price is quite high, so no owner would want to lose their Lada due to theft

Plus, in the hands of an inexperienced driver, absolutely any car turns into a source of serious danger, both for the thief and for the people around him: pedestrians and passengers. To prevent potential problems, numerous anti-theft devices are installed on vehicles.

In most cases, alarm systems and immobilizers are integrated into modern cars. Anti-theft devices of these types have both many advantages and many disadvantages. In the first case, the car owner receives several useful functions that provide more comfort. For example, when you use an alarm, you can only get inside the car from the driver’s seat, or you can automatically start the engine while at home so that the car warms up. However, this device can only notify the car owner about theft, while the immo action is aimed at preventing it.

An immobilizer is an electronic controller designed to block the start of a car engine if you try to do this with the “left” key. You can start the car only with the original key with a microchip built into it, from which the control unit removes the identification code.
