On VAZ, immo is a standard anti-theft device that is installed on all injection Ladas, except classic models. During vehicle production, these systems are in an untrained state; accordingly, their protection option is disabled. The immobilizer package includes three keys - two working and one so-called master.

Where is?

In Kalina, Priora and other models, the device that allows you to block the internal combustion engine is located inside the center console. The control unit can be seen behind the plastic lining in the car interior, in particular, in the area of ​​the stove, where the air flow deflectors are located. To gain access to the microprocessor module, you will need to remove part of the dashboard. The antenna adapter, which is designed to connect the control unit with the tag key, is installed on the steering column next to the ignition switch.

In reviews, consumers call this installation location unsuccessful. It is difficult to access, and the plug on the connection connector is often filled with working fluids that enter the air channels. This problem is often encountered when flushing the radiator unit of the air conditioning system.

Operating principle

The operation of the anti-theft device is based on the exchange of information between the key and the microprocessor module. The latter, identifying the tag, gives permission or denies starting the system. Regardless of the system, additional blocking of the internal combustion engine is not carried out. Permission to start the power unit is given by the microprocessor module only after successful key authorization. If an attempt is made to start the internal combustion engine in a vehicle where security has not been disabled, the control unit will block the operation of the ignition and fuel pump electrical circuits. The blocking procedure can be carried out using several methods, and their implementation depends on the vehicle configuration.

In more advanced versions of Kalin, the engine is turned off a certain time after it is started. After this interval, the power unit will be blocked for no apparent reason. The attacker will think that the engine is faulty and, most likely, will leave the crime scene.

In order for the immobilizer to understand that the car is being broken into, there are two ways:

  • contact;
  • contactless.

In the first case, the mark installed in the key, which is inserted into the lock, is recognized. In accordance with the information received, the microprocessor module determines how to activate the protection.

In the contactless case, the identification method is more complex; it uses signals from radio transmitters. If the car owner with the key is near the car, the anti-theft device will be disabled. As soon as the key moves away from the radio transmitter, the blocker automatically turns on the protection and prevents the engine from starting. Any attempts to start are considered by the immobilizer as a hack.

Where is

The immobilizer on Kalina can be located deep in the dashboard near the central air conditioner pipe. The antenna unit, shaped like a ring, is located in the ignition switch. The chip is built into the head of the key; the information is read when the engine starts. You can access the blocker as follows:

  • disconnect the power cables of the on-board network from the battery;
  • pull out the ashtray and unscrew the 4 bolts holding the housing (the latter is removed from the socket);
  • remove the plugs located near the service alarm button;
  • Unscrew 2 screws located under the plugs;
  • remove the rotary air distributors;
  • remove the central decorative trim by removing it from the clamps;
  • disconnect electrical cables leading to electronic devices installed on the dashboard;
  • dismantle the standard unit, which is located under the central air duct;
  • disconnect the immobilizer power cable (to do this, press the latch).

Immobilizer malfunctions and what to do about them?

If the device does not work, the owner needs to determine the cause of the error, otherwise driving the car will be impossible:

  1. One of the symptoms is that the engine’s starter mechanism cranks the crankshaft, but there are no flashes of the air-fuel mixture in the cylinders of the power unit. On the control panel in the car interior, the indicator of a faulty immobilizer lights up. Such signs indicate desynchronization of the operation of the control device and the tag in the key. To perform repairs, the transponder will need to be retrained. If this does not help, then the problem must be looked for in the operation of the electronic circuits of the ignition key or controller.
  2. If a malfunction occurs in the immo, the speed of the power unit may float at idle. The reason is usually the incorrect operation of the microprocessor due to liquid getting on the connector. To restore the action of the blocker, you will need to dry the block and circuit. If the control unit is faulty, it will have to be replaced.
  3. The control module does not receive power as a result of a breakdown of the safety device located in the mounting block. On Kalina 1 cars, a 10 ampere part is responsible for the operation of the blocker, on Kalina 2 - 15 A. If the safety elements burn out frequently, it is necessary to diagnose the car’s electronics.

Unlock "APS"

Note that the standard immobilizer in LADA Kalina is a primitive device compared to other modern electronic systems. If an additional sway sensor is added to the system present in the Lada, then the alarm will turn into a competitive device.

Here, problems can arise only when the security system is switched with the engine start circuit in automatic mode. The fact is that it does not “want” to function in conjunction with the immobilizer. What if the owner lost the keys or wanted to install a different alarm system? How can you unlock the anti-theft module yourself in such a situation? “APS” in a given car depends on the microchip present in the ignition key. The immobilizer is unlocked when a corresponding impulse is received from the ECU. This option only works if the system is activated. It is not difficult to verify this fact. We close the doors and find the immobilizer symbol illuminated. We maintain a 20-second pause and if the symbol goes out, it means the system is activated. All further manipulations to unlock the device are performed according to the above algorithm.

Instructions for activating immo

System programming is usually carried out by dealers when selling cars.

The blocker training procedure is carried out differently in Kalina cars of the first and second versions.

Activation on Kalina-1

To enable the immobilizer yourself, perform the following steps:

  1. A training master key is prepared and equipped with a red mark. It must be installed in the lock.
  2. The key is then turned in the switch to the ignition activation position. As a result of the blocker being disabled, after 6 seconds the indicator light on the control panel will turn on. If the light does not light up, this indicates that the system is active. Accordingly, the blocker is trained and its activation is not required.
  3. Then the ignition is turned off, and the immo indicator light will operate in rapid flash mode. The car owner has six seconds to install a regular key in the switch.
  4. Then the lock cylinder is turned until the ignition is turned on. If the actions are performed correctly, the beepper will turn on three times. If the buzzer does not sound, the reason may be that the time interval allocated for installing and turning the key has been exceeded. Perhaps the problem lies in the engine blocker itself.
  5. Then you need to wait about six seconds, the beepper will emit another double signal. Afterwards the ignition in the car is turned off. The key is removed from the lock.
  6. Now the car owner has another 6 seconds during which he must activate the ignition with the master key. The immo indicator diode will blink on the control panel of the car.
  7. After activation, the beepper will emit a triple beep; until the next series, which consists of two separate beeps, you need to wait 2-3 seconds.
  8. The ignition is turned off, but the key does not need to be removed from the lock. After a certain time interval, the beeper will give another signal, and the indicator on the control panel will blink at high frequency. About 15 seconds will pass between deactivation of the ignition and the light switching to accelerated mode. But the time interval is also determined by the model of the microprocessor unit.
  9. Then within 10 seconds you need to quickly turn on the ignition for 3 seconds. and turn it off.
  10. The machine's light alarm will give three signals, this indicates the successful completion of the programming procedure.
  11. Then you need to wait until the indicator light on the control panel stops blinking completely. The master key is removed from the ignition switch.

Activation on Kalina-2

On this version of the car, the programming procedure is performed slightly differently:

  1. When the driver inserts the master key into the lock and activates the ignition, the beepper emits a triple beep. After the last pulse the system turns off. The key must be removed from the lock. If Kalina was previously started using a master key equipped with a red mark, the lock will not emit sound signals. Then you will have to wait a few seconds and perform the steps described in the second paragraph.
  2. For 6 sec. the key is installed in the lock and the ignition is reactivated. The buzzer will emit a triple beep and, after a short pause, a double pulse.
  3. Then the key in the lock is changed to the next one, for this the owner must have time to change them himself in 6 seconds. Having activated the ignition with the master key, the buzzer emits a triple sound pulse, and then a double one.
  4. The ignition in the car is turned off, the key must be in the lock. The beepper will beep. The key is then turned to turn on the ignition. The car's standard steering horn should sound. This indicates that the transponder tag has been successfully written to the microprocessor memory.
  5. The ignition in the car is turned off. The indicator light on the control panel will go out. If this does not happen, then the device is faulty.

Removing the immobilizer control unit

1. Remove the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Remove the instrument panel trim.

3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the two screws securing the unit to the instrument panel, holding the screw nuts with a 10 mm wrench.

Raise the rear seat cushion. Loosen the screws securing the carpet in the rear left door opening.

If you lose a working key, you need to purchase a blank and cut it to work with the ignition switch. Then you need to perform the immobilizer training procedure using a training key and a new working key.

Disabling the immobilizer yourself

The procedure for turning off the blocker is performed differently depending on the microprocessor model.

Bosch M7 4 block

To remove the immobilizer you will need:

  • PC or laptop on which the Winflashecu v.1.14 utility is pre-installed;
  • cable with K-Line adapter, a universal version is suitable;
  • a program with which the microprocessor can work with the blocker disabled;
  • several cables of different lengths.

The shutdown procedure is performed as follows:

  1. The wires with terminals are disconnected from the battery. You also need to disconnect the connectors with cables from the ECM, which is located in the engine compartment of the car. To perform this task, remove the top plastic cover, then remove the flat pad retainer. We are talking about a large connector; the small plug can be left alone.
  2. Then the wire is installed in contacts A4 and B2 from the block side. These conductors are used to provide additional 12 volt power. To perform the task, they must be connected to the battery using an intermediate switch. The plug is installed in place and the lock is secured.
  3. The K-Line adapter with a wire is installed in the diagnostic connector, which is located in the passenger compartment. To gain access to it, you need to remove the plastic cover located on the center console.
  4. In the PC settings, the information transfer speed is set to 38400 bps.
  5. The previously installed program starts. In the settings window, you need to specify the port number, the set speed, as well as the type of microprocessor immo module. The message “No connection” should be lit in the lower corner. Then power is supplied to contact elements A4 and B2. The ignition is activated, as a result of which the inscription “No communication” will change to “Communication with the ECU”. At the same time, the operation start key will become active.
  6. Data is read from EEPROM, this is the software of the control unit. This information must be saved on your PC.
  7. Then new software is selected on the computer and loaded into the microprocessor memory. To do this, click the “Write EEPROM” button. The loading procedure begins and must be completed. After this, the utility on the computer is closed, and the ignition in the car is turned off.
  8. The additional power cables to the connector pins are disconnected. You need to make sure that the immobilizer was removed. When starting the engine without a chip, the indicator on the control panel will light up for a few seconds and disappear.

To disable the immobilizer on Kalina with such an ECU, it will have to be modified. To do this, you need to resolder one resistor element. It is recommended to entrust the procedure to specialists. When the task is completed, the device is flashed.

To complete the task you will need:

  • K-Line adapter, for example, VM9213;
  • PC or laptop on which the ChipLoader 1.97.7 utility is installed;
  • a soldering iron with a power of 25-40 W, as well as rosin and tin;
  • several cables with a switch;
  • resistor element, its resistance will be 3.6-5 kOhm;
  • connectors for connecting cables to the microprocessor;
  • 12 volt battery.

The shutdown procedure is as follows:

  1. The power supply to the machine's electrical network is turned off; to do this, the terminal with the clamp is disconnected from the battery. The microprocessor module is being dismantled.
  2. The control unit housing is wrapped with an insulator. The circuit is assembled in accordance with the photo.
  3. Then the adapter is connected to a PC or laptop.
  4. Using the switch, you need to simulate the operation of the ignition system.
  5. The utility is launched on the computer. After it starts, it is necessary to establish a connection with the microprocessor module.
  6. The factory firmware is being read from the control unit. The information is saved to the PC hard drive. After successful reading, click the “Delete immo” button. You must wait until a confirmation window with the text “Blocker removed” appears on the computer screen.
  7. The program closes and the ignition is deactivated using the switch.
  8. Before installing a microprocessor on a car, you need to turn off the pulse from the engine blocker. With the connector removed, using a piece of wire, it is necessary to close the contact elements numbered 9 and 18.

Principle of operation

The immo's task is to prevent an attacker from starting a car in order to steal it. The device body is small in size and is located in places that are difficult to break into. If a standard alarm can only scare away a thief, then the immobilizer does not allow the car to start if the person does not have a special electronic key (tag).

There are 3 groups of protective devices:

  • contact;
  • code;
  • contactless.

Contact and code immobilizers give away their location to an attacker due to the presence of a reader or device for entering a code. To start the motor, you need to enter a code or touch the chip to the contact pad. These devices will only prevent the engine from starting during initial startup. This protection mode resembles the operation mode of a secret button. Installing a secret button is cheaper than the cost of these devices, so they have not gained much popularity.

Modern Russian cars are equipped with standard contactless immobilizers, in which a chip with a code is located in the ignition key. The protection device works as follows:

  1. The driver inserts the key into the ignition switch; when the key is turned, current from the on-board network is supplied to a coil of copper wire wound around the lock.
  2. The generated electromagnetic field pulse, propagating in space, induces current in the microantenna, which is located in the ignition key body, and charges the capacitance that supplies voltage to the chip containing the code.
  3. The complex electromagnetic signal generated by the chip is transmitted back to a coil wound around the ignition switch. The code in the form of an electrical signal is sent to the immobilizer, which carries out the recognition procedure. If the immo confirms the authenticity of the code, it sends a command to the electronic engine control unit (ECU) to start the car engine.

This type of protective device tests the chip once when the engine is started; more advanced immobilizers have a “WAIT-UP” relay that does not block engine operation when the vehicle is not moving. This anti-theft system tests the chip at specified intervals.

Such systems operate at 2.4 GHz, are miniature in size and are located in a wiring harness to hide them from intruders. The tag is equipped with a battery, and it is tested by the anti-theft system at a specified frequency. The encoded chip should be stored separately from the ignition key. This increases the vehicle's protection from possible theft. If the driver is forcibly removed from the car, the engine will stall after a preset time.

If, when you turn the ignition key, the immobilizer icon blinks or does not go out, and the engine does not start, then most likely there is a malfunction in the anti-theft system in the car.

What disables immo in a car?

Structurally, this device includes electronic controllers that block the main vehicle systems - the driveshaft and engine. The immobilizer can also deactivate the ignition and fuel supply systems to the engine.

Should I disable the immobilizer myself?

It is better for inexperienced car enthusiasts not to do this; if the immobilizer detects an attempt to break into or open elements of the device, it will block the engine. As a result, you will have to turn to specialists.

Emergency shutdown

To complete this task, you will need a digital password. This code must be previously recorded in the ECU memory.

The procedure for adding a new password is performed immediately after immo activation:

  1. The master key is inserted into the lock and turned to turn the ignition on. You must wait until the indicator light disappears from the dashboard.
  2. Then the password numbers are dialed; you can use numbers from 1 to 9. The dialing procedure is carried out by quickly pressing the gas pedal all the way. With each subsequent release, the engine blocker indicator on the dashboard will light up, and when released, it will go out. When the numbers are dialed, you need to press the gas pedal and hold it for 6 seconds.
  3. The procedure for assigning each character to a password combination is performed in a similar manner.
  4. When the last digit is entered, the IMO icon on the instrument panel will go out. The driver of the car must keep the gas pedal pressed for ten seconds, then it is released.
  5. The ignition in the car is turned off, and the master key is removed from the switch.

To emergency unlock the engine using a password, do the following:

  1. The ignition is activated. An immo light appears on the control panel of the car.
  2. You must wait until the indicator goes out. This usually takes about one minute.
  3. The password is entered by pressing the gas pedal. To enter a number, you need to press quickly and all the way. The number of presses must correspond to the first digit of the password. To separate, the pedal is depressed and held for six seconds. In general, the process of entering numbers corresponds to the procedure for assigning a password.
  4. When the last character of the code is entered, the electrical circuit of the fuel pump will be activated, and the blocker indicator on the device will light up. If the number is entered incorrectly, the indicator will blink. Then the password entry process is repeated again.

Diagnostics of the Lada-kalina security system. guarding the borders

- This is the first domestic car on which even in the simplest “norm” configuration the plant installs a full-fledged security system. Its main links are shown in photo 1. This is controller 1 (Bosch M7.9.7), control unit 2 of the automobile anti-theft system (APS-6), working ignition key 3 with a remote control and transponder (coding device), training key 4 with its own transponder (in a red shell), ignition switch 5 with a built-in communication coil, block 6 of the remote control system.

Let us note one of the advantages of the new APS-6 immobilizer over the previous APS-4, familiar to owners of “Samar” and “Ten” cars: now there is no need to apply the key to the receiving device located away from the ignition switch. The key in the Kalina lock immediately ensures connection between the transponder and the coil - without unnecessary manipulations!

The APS-6 control unit reads the code hidden in the key transponder and transmits it to the controller, which compares this code with that recorded in non-volatile memory. If someone else's key was inserted into the lock (the probability is quite low!), starting will not work - the codes will not match.

At the same time, it is worth remembering that if you lose a working key, you can start the engine with a training key and drive until you buy a new working one. It is clear that he will have to be re-programmed (trained).

By the way, VAZ does not recommend selling cars with a non-activated security system - if the buyer refuses it, a corresponding entry must be made in the service book. But life is complicated...

Having purchased a Kalina with an activated APS-6 system, you received two keys - a training one and a working one. But there are already “clean” working keys on sale: where is the guarantee that an unscrupulous seller has not trained another working key (the system allows this) and passed it on to “interested parties”? That is why it is better to retrain APS-6 immediately, on a new machine. Let's do this.

During subsequent manipulations, we will need to quickly replace one key with another, so we will release both from the bunch. And one more thing: let's fill the tank, otherwise the warning light may come on and the buzzer will sound at the same time, confusing - we only need those signals that are related to training!

So, let's get behind the wheel. Are the doors closed? We can begin.

1. Having turned on the ignition with the training key, do not start the engine. In the instrument cluster there is an APS status indicator - 1 in photo 2. It turns on and does not blink - the system is not trained. Didn't turn on - trained. Flashes for 20 seconds - the system is faulty. In our case, the “car with a key” does not light up - it is trained.

2. Turning off the ignition, remove the key - the indicator blinks.

3. Turn on the ignition with the working key. The buzzer of the APS control unit will sound three times, and after 6 seconds twice more.

4. Turning off the ignition, remove the working key and...

5. ...No later than 6 seconds, insert the training one and turn on the ignition! (Otherwise the system will remain silent and you will have to do everything again.) The buzzer sounds three times, and after 6 seconds twice.

6. Turn off the ignition, but do not remove the training key. The buzzer will sound once. The indicator will start flashing quickly. It takes up to 15 seconds to enter this mode - wait!

7. Turn on the ignition. After the buzzer sounds once (but no later than 10 seconds), the direction indicators will flash three times, the buzzer will sound in time with them, and the horn will sound once. During this operation, the system remembers the codes, so you cannot turn off the ignition without waiting for three confirmation beeps from the buzzer. The waiting time is at least 5 seconds.

Bypassing the immobilizer on Kalina

Let's look at how to bypass the blocker on a car with a Starline signaling system installed:

  1. The main immobilizer unit is flashed to a version no lower than L8.
  2. The digital interface can be updated using software to version no less than 3.9.
  3. Then, in the CAN+LIN bus settings, the “Bypass the standard blocker” function is activated.
  4. All components of the anti-theft complex are assembled and connectors are connected. If the alarm is already installed, then you need to connect the power to the microprocessor unit.
  5. The ignition is turned off. The service key must be pressed 14 times.
  6. After the last click, the power unit starts for three seconds.
  7. The anti-theft siren should emit a double beep, this indicates that the bypass tag has been successfully recorded. If the power unit starts up and the alarm does not beep, then the programming mode was not turned on. Then the recording procedure is repeated.

Resynchronization of remote control codes

In cases where the remote control buttons are pressed outside the range of the radio channel, the “floating” code counter in the remote control goes out of synchronization with the counter in the system control unit. If the number of button presses outside the signal reception area of ​​the system exceeds 1000, the system stops responding to remote control commands. In this case, the remote control training procedure should be repeated.

Such a duplicate is more expensive than a regular chip, which can be registered using a master key, but this is a real solution in cases where the master (training) key is lost. To create a duplicate, you need a car, a working key with remote control buttons (and it doesn’t even matter if it is partially faulty, for example, the buttons don’t work, etc., the main thing is that the ignition key starts the engine).
