SJRacing - tuning components for your car

Cheap options for increasing ground clearance

The easiest way to make your car taller by a few millimeters is to install wheels and tires with a larger diameter than stock.
This is a gentle option, since when installing non-standard wheels and tires, you do not make any changes to the design of the running vehicle. When increasing ground clearance in this way, you need to remember that it is better to install on your car the rims and tires of the parameters recommended by the manufacturer. Typically, these parameters are indicated in the vehicle’s operating manual, but if they are not listed there, you can find this information on the Internet or contact the nearest branded car dealership. Having found out these parameters, you can buy tires and wheels, and then install them at any tire shop. This option has one advantage - the actual increase in ground clearance. But there are several disadvantages: increased fuel consumption, incorrect speedometer readings, and if tires and wheels are installed whose parameters are not recommended by the manufacturer, then the tires can touch the wheel arches when turning, which will ultimately lead to rapid wear of the tire.

The second method is more effective, as it gives a greater increase in clearance. This is the installation of special spacers between the shock absorber springs and the car body. Before you begin to implement this method, remember - by installing spacers, you are already making changes to the design of the car's chassis, therefore, you are violating the factory parameters. And this can affect both the change in the operation of the suspension and the safety of the car.

If you nevertheless decide on this option, then you have to choose from several types of spacers - aluminum, polyurethane or plastic. Aluminum ones have an order of magnitude longer service life than polyurethane and plastic ones; the ones that wear out the most quickly in this component are plastic spacers. So if you are going to increase the ground clearance seriously and for a long time, look at the aluminum parts. In addition, you need to remember that spacers differ depending on which suspension, front or rear, you install them on.

It is important to strictly follow the markings and not mix up the parts. Spacers are installed between the body cup and the shock absorber spring. There is another type of spacers - interturn spacers, which are installed between the turns of the springs. They are also made from different materials, but serve to tighten the suspension, which helps to avoid the disadvantages that arise when installing conventional spacers (one of the advantages of interturn spacers is a reduction in the car's grip when cornering).

The advantages of spacers are increased ground clearance and no sagging of the rear of the car when heavily loaded. Disadvantages - changing the angles of the suspension (can affect the handling of the car), increasing the shock absorber travel (the risk of suspension breakdown when falling into a deep hole increases) and vibration loads on the body and on the suspension itself.

The third method is to replace the factory shock absorber springs with non-standard ones with a large number of turns. This option is more expensive than the previous two, since it involves the purchase of reinforced springs with an increased number of turns and long-stroke shock absorbers for them (the price of these components and the cost of their installation are different, but it is much higher than the first two options).

This method of increasing the vehicle's ground clearance has several advantages: long service life and service life, less stern subsidence (compared to spacers) when the vehicle is fully loaded. Among the disadvantages are changes in the operating angles of the front and rear suspension, an increase in its rigidity, and vibrations that will be transmitted to the chassis and body of the car.

Clearance

, perhaps one of the most popular car characteristics requested by car enthusiasts.
People are interested in the level of ground clearance of cars immediately after they know the volume and power of the engine, consumption and dynamic characteristics. And this is correct, because in our Russian conditions, a car’s high ground clearance
is sometimes more important than the presence of rear windows or even air conditioning.
how to increase
ground clearance to make driving on domestic roads more comfortable.

Before you begin the operation of increasing the ground clearance of your car, Honor needs several aspects. First: accurately calculate the ground clearance of your car (since its value may differ from the passport value, especially if it is a foreign-made car). Second: decide what ride height you want to achieve. The point is that just increase

Ground clearance is still half the battle, but you need to take into account such parameters as departure/entry angles and the vehicle's longitudinal flotation angle. They are different for all cars, and even if you increase the ground clearance of your sedan, it will not become an SUV, it will not be better to climb hills - and all because of its geometric cross-country ability specified by the factory designers. And, finally, you will have to decide on the budget for this operation, since there are several ways to increase clearance, and the labor costs for their use are different.

Expensive option for increasing ground clearance

There is a more expensive way to increase

vehicle clearance - installation of air suspension. It involves the purchase of front and rear air bags, air pressure sensors, compressor, receiver and control panel.

This method is described in detail in our material on lowering the suspension. Its main advantage is the ability to change the car's ground clearance depending on the speed or quality of the road on which the car is moving, in a fairly wide range. That is, the car can receive both lowered (for high-speed driving) and increased (for off-road driving) ground clearance. However, there are also plenty of disadvantages: in addition to the high cost of installation, repair and maintenance, air suspension has a relatively short service life (this is especially true for residents of Russian regions, where the quality of the road surface leaves much to be desired).

As you can see, any of the chosen methods of increasing the ground clearance of a car has its pros and cons. Therefore, before deciding on such an operation, carefully calculate its budget and think about the consequences that may occur as a result of changing the standard clearance of your “iron horse”.

Stories from our readers

“Fucking basin. "

Hi all! My name is Mikhail, now I’ll tell you a story about how I managed to exchange my two-wheeler for a 2010 Camry. It all started with the fact that I began to be wildly irritated by the breakdowns of the two-wheeler, it seemed like nothing serious was broken, but damn it, there were so many little things that really started to irritate me. This is where the idea arose that it was time to change the car to a foreign car. The choice fell on the melting Camry of the tenth years.

Yes, I had matured morally, but financially I just couldn’t handle it. I’ll say right away that I am against loans and taking a car, especially not a new one, on credit is unreasonable. My salary is 24k a month, so collecting 600-700 thousand is almost impossible for me. I started looking for different ways to make money on the Internet. You can’t imagine how many scams there are, what I haven’t tried: sports betting, network marketing, and even the volcano casino, where I successfully lost about 10 thousand ((The only direction in which it seemed to me that I could make money was currency trading on the stock exchange, they call it Forex. But when I started delving into it, I realized that it was very difficult for me. I continued to dig further and came across binary options. The essence is the same as in Forex, but it’s much easier to understand. I started reading forums, studying trading strategies. I tried it on a demo account, then opened a real account. To be honest, I didn’t manage to start earning money right away, until I understood all the mechanics of options, I lost about 3,000 rubles, but as it turned out, it was a precious experience. Now I earn 5-7 thousand rubles a day. I managed to get the car buy after half a year, but in my opinion this is a good result, and it’s not about the car, my life has changed, I naturally quit my job, I have more free time for myself and my family. You’ll laugh, but I work directly on the phone)) If If you want to change your life like me, then here’s what I advise you to do right now: 1. Register on the site 2. Practice on a Demo account (it’s free). 3. As soon as you get something on the Demo account, top up your REAL ACCOUNT and go to REAL MONEY! I also advise you to download the application to your phone, it’s much more convenient to work from your phone. Download here.

If you think about what affects a car's ground clearance , it becomes clear that there are a number of ways:

  1. screw suspension.
  2. install spacers between the body and the strut support.
  3. install non-standard strut supports, springs (longer) or shock absorbers.
  4. install interturn spacers in the springs
  5. install higher rubber bands under the springs
  6. replace tires and wheels

If you install “house” spacers under the pillars, you will be able to raise the rear of the car.

As you might have noticed, there are many ways to make a car taller, but how is increasing ground clearance and car performance ?

Spacers as a means of increasing ground clearance

Shock absorbers and ground clearance, where is the truth?

When the car is standing still, the shock absorbers will not lift the body - after all, it hangs on springs. The role of the struts can be understood in motion, when the car sways and “pecks” on soft or dead shock absorbers. You drive off the curb and your car’s nose hits the asphalt! If the shock absorbers are in good condition, they will “catch” the car halfway. Thus, shock absorbers do not affect ground clearance, but have the same effect as increased ground clearance.

Ride quality

When creating the car, AvtoVAZ engineers cared little about the dynamic performance of the Seven. The sedan reaches the first hundred in just 16 seconds, and you can accelerate to a maximum of 150 km/h.

The suspension is soft, and this is a big plus for driving on bad roads. Ground clearance is average - 154 mm. You can't go off-road, but it's enough for the city.

Those who like to drive need to be careful. On the highway, at a speed of more than 100 km/h, the car will have to be “caught”, and when entering turns, slow down so as not to fly into a ditch. Caution is also important when overclocking. During a rapid detonation, the rear end of the car is pulled away.

The ideal option is springs from Niva

Therefore, one of our tasks is to increase the rigidity of the rear suspension. We recommend installing Niva springs there. Their rigidity is quite suitable for the VAZ 2107. On the road the car will feel confident, despite the fact that there is a maximum number of people in the cabin. Feel free to install these springs and don’t even hesitate. As for the front of the car, it is advisable to install shock absorbers in a circle, this will add elasticity to the suspension.

If you have domestic tires, we recommend replacing them. Advertising is advertising, but whatever one may say, its quality is much inferior to that of foreign ones. Rubber has a huge impact on comfort. If you do everything correctly, then at 150-170 km/h the car will behave perfectly. Pay attention to the climate of the place where you live. If it is cold enough, then you should buy shock absorbers designed for weather conditions. In addition to the fact that the car will become more controllable, its aerodynamic qualities will also improve and passive safety will increase. It is almost impossible to find a complete set of sports suspension for the “seven”; you need to manually adjust the suspension to the parameters of the car.

Engines and transmission

“Sevens” are available with 1.3, 1.5 and 1.6 liter engines with power from 64 to 75 hp. With. These are models aimed at the domestic market. For export, the models were supplied with a 1.7-liter engine producing 80 horsepower. However, under the hood of a used VAZ

-2107" you can find another unit. Amateur mechanics often test these machines and replace the original engine with one with different power characteristics. Such a replacement is popularly called “swap” (from the English swap - exchange).

The gearbox is a four- or five-speed manual, depending on the year of manufacture of the model, the drive is exclusively rear-wheel drive.

The model is economical in consumption and is not picky about fuel. In the combined cycle, the “Seven” consumes 7.5-8.5 liters per 100 km. You can fill the fuel tank not only with AI-92 and 95, but also with AI-80, if you can find it.

Pros and cons of "VAZ-2107"

The main advantage of the “Seven” is its adaptation to Russian operating conditions. With a working engine and electrical system, the car starts even in severe frost.

Compact dimensions allow even beginners to park confidently. VAZ owners are not worried

-2107" and for the safety of the vehicle. Old Zhiguli cars are of little interest to car thieves.

Drivers rarely complain about engines and transmissions. They are mainly concerned about leaking rear axle seals, breakdown of the solenoid relay, malfunction of the fuel pump and generator. If something breaks, don’t go broke on repairs. Replacing the fuel pump assembly will cost 650 rubles, reinstalling the generator - 1,500-2,000 rubles.

Spare parts, as well as mechanics, capable of bringing the “Seven” back to life can be found in any outback. But you need to be careful with the details, there are a lot of counterfeits on the market.

And another minus of the “seven” is poor sound insulation. The dashboard, central air duct, or heating system control cables may rattle. Some drivers installed sound insulation themselves, so you can find a “quiet” car on the secondary market.

Strengthening the front suspension

Particular attention should be paid to tuning the front suspension of the VAZ-2107. The main weight of all units is concentrated here. It is advisable to install replacement parts of the highest quality; foreign-made ones can be used. We carry out all replacement work by analogy with the rear part.

After replacing all parts with more powerful ones, the stiffness of the suspension will increase significantly. But driving may be inconvenient. A slight body tilt will be noticeable when cornering. Here it is necessary to carry out additional work to improve the suspension of the VAZ-2107.

After completing modifications to the VAZ-2107 suspension, it is necessary to perform wheel alignment. This operation, of course, is best done at the station using special equipment.

What is the clearance of the VAZ 2107

Ground clearance is the distance from the lowest point in the center of the car body to the ground. However, the manufacturer LADA 2107

measures the ground clearance as it suits him. This means that the distance from the shock absorbers, engine oil pan or muffler to the asphalt may be less than the stated ground clearance.

An interesting point: car buyers pay special attention to ground clearance, because in our country good ground clearance is a necessity; it will save you from headaches when parking to curbs.

Ride height of LADA 2107

ranges from 170 to 175 mm. But be careful when going on vacation or returning with shopping: a loaded car will easily lose 2-3 centimeters of ground clearance.

If desired, the ground clearance of any car can be increased using spacers for shock absorbers. The car will become taller. However, it will lose its former stability at high speeds and will lose greatly in maneuverability. The ground clearance can also be reduced; for this, as a rule, it is enough to replace the standard shock absorbers with tuning ones: the handling and stability will immediately please you.

Let's improve the VAZ 2110

To raise the rear suspension on a VAZ 2110 you need to:

  1. Put the car on the handbrake.
  2. Using a jack, raise the rear of the car so that the wheels are in the air and rotate freely.
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4. Unscrew the shock absorber mounting bolt. To do this you will need a key “19”.
  5. Get the bolt. Perform a similar operation with the opposite shock absorber.
  6. Take the spacer and determine on which side the distance from the base to the first hole is greater. The side where it is larger should be directed inward. The same spacer can be installed on both the right and left shock absorbers, since these devices are mirror symmetrical.
  7. Install the spacer so that a line is drawn from the center of its lower hole to the upper hole, which falls into the vertical of the rack. You can install the spacer so that it is not adjustable in height by screwing the shock absorber into a single hole.
  8. By unfolding the spacer, you can adjust the suspension height by screwing the strut into the upper or lower hole, but the device will then need to be placed on the opposite rear shock absorber.
  9. When installing a spacer on an eye, it is important to install a bolt spacer so that the mechanism does not break during operation. You don't need to tighten the bolt too much, just make sure it fits snugly and doesn't wobble.
  10. Install the strut mounting bolt into the holes in the spacer and shock absorber. The height can be adjusted by selecting the top or bottom holes.
  11. Also install a spacer on the opposite shock absorber.
  12. Adjust the rear brake pressure regulator by unscrewing its mounting bolt. Next, you need to move the bracket with something until the distance between the lever and the spring becomes 2 millimeters.
  13. Check the functionality of the brake system. When braking hard at low speed, the rear axle should lock a little later than the front. If the rear wheels brake much later, then you need to reduce the distance from the lever to the mounting spring, and if it is too early, increase it.

Technical characteristics, dimensions and parameters of the VAZ 2107

VAZ-2107 is a rear-wheel drive car manufactured by AvtoVAZ, developed on the basis of the classic VAZ-2101 model of 1972. The car is a sedan, structurally similar to the original Soviet car. However, the car has been significantly improved in terms of design. There was also a new engine and additional equipment. The VAZ-2107 has long remained the cheapest car in Russia, as well as in some CIS countries. VAZ- 2107

– one of the latest models of the classic family. The car was produced mainly in Russia and Ukraine, as well as in Kazakhstan and Egypt. In the foreign market the car was known as Lada Nova, Lada Riva, Lada Signet and Lada 1500.

Like the VAZ-2101, the more modern VAZ-2101 is structurally identical to the Italian budget car Fiat 124, produced in the 1960s.

Salon "VAZ-2107"

The “Seven” was created on the basis of the “VAZ-2105”. It was a modified luxury version of the Five, aimed at wealthy people. People called it the Russian “Mercedes”. The interior of the car was luxurious for those times. Inside, there were seats with integrated headrests and a special dashboard that notifies you about the speed, fuel and oil levels, and engine heating temperature. The heating system has also been modernized. It directed air flows not only to the windows, but also to the driver’s feet.

Modern drivers won’t be surprised by the 7’s interior or trim levels. The car has no airbags, not to mention ABS and other electronic assistants. In the “top” versions you can adjust the angle of the headlights and headrests. For 10-15 thousand rubles, the equipment can be supplemented with multimedia, tinting and alloy wheels.

The cabin is comfortable for four passengers of average build; it will be a bit cramped with a fifth in the back seat. The trunk holds 379 liters of cargo. You can’t hide large luggage there - there’s enough space for several bags of groceries from the supermarket and a bag with tools.

Shock absorber modification

When transporting large loads (and often VAZ 2110 owners do not listen too much to recommendations regarding load capacity), the car seriously “sits down” and its ground clearance is significantly reduced.

If you have to constantly carry heavy things, it makes sense to install springs with class “A”. Naturally, they will make the shock absorbers stiff, and you will only be comfortable in a heavily loaded car, and without a load it will shake like on a cart.

There are also s, which are installed between the spring coils and do not allow the shock absorber to compress too much.

Interturn spacers in the shock absorber spring

In principle, such a car will no longer sag significantly under load, as well as nod off, but the shock absorber stroke will decrease and it will fail faster.

Rework to strengthen the chassis

It is also important to treat the studs that are located on the lower arm from corrosive wear. Before tightening the nuts, they must be pre-lubricated. Plastic can be fused onto the tips of the studs. To do this, you can take any plastic thing, cut off a piece, lean it against the tip of a hairpin and melt it.

Additionally, the stabilizer brackets can be strengthened. To do this, it is recommended to weld special steel corners onto them. Then carry out anti-corrosion treatment.

High-quality tuning for the VAZ-2107 chassis makes the car more reliable and easy to use.

Over time, as they wear out, the car's standard suspension springs become less rigid. Excessive “softness” of the suspension leads to deterioration in handling on uneven roads, and the rubber bumpers of the suspension are triggered even when driving over small bumps. This applies to all cars, and the “seven” is no exception.

There are two ways to solve the problem:

  • Replace the springs with new, stiffer ones.
  • Install spacers under the springs of the VAZ 2107.

The second method is simpler and less expensive. If necessary, it allows you to increase the stiffness of even new springs.

There are several types of spacers:

  • Interturn spacers.
  • Spacers between the spring and the installation cup on the car body.
  • Spacers between the spring support and the mounting cup.
  • Spacers on adjustable suspension.

Below we will look at the features of each type separately.

Content

"Lifting" the machine

In principle, as we have already noted, this is enough for a more or less comfortable ride. But, of course, many people want to “raise” the VAZ 2110 a little more, based on their realities.

We will tell you how you can actually do this. But let us warn you right away: “raising” the car above the asphalt level entails a number of unpleasant consequences:

  • Clamping the springs, firstly, will lead to a decrease in comfort while driving, and secondly, the shock absorbers will suffer as a result, which will not be able to cope with their responsibilities;
  • The suspension also suffers from too stiff springs, as this leads to increased loads on it;
  • Corrosion is inevitable when using aluminum spacers;
  • By increasing the ground clearance of the VAZ 2110, car owners risk the stability of the car while driving. The fact is that the center of gravity shifts, the car can rock, and in some cases it can even roll over. Therefore, experts strongly recommend not increasing the ground clearance by more than 5 cm. That is, the maximum limit should be no more than 170 mm!

Spacers

One way to increase the clearance is to install spacers - a kind of spacer supports that can be found in stores and car markets. They are installed between the body and the support of the VAZ 2110.

Spacers for the concept of the rear of the car

They come in three types:

  1. made of plastic – they have practically no flaws, are quite durable and last a long time;
  2. polyurethane ones are also wear-resistant, but when the car “flies” into a hole, it is strongly compressed, which is why the impact becomes very noticeable;
  3. aluminum ones “peel” the paint from the supports and body, thereby increasing and accelerating corrosion.

"Houses"

Another method of increasing ground clearance is to install so-called “houses” on the rear suspension. The “houses” have special holes through which the ground clearance is adjusted, and they are installed between the eyes of the rear suspension beam and the bottom of the shock absorber.

But experts generally cannot come to a common opinion - whether the “houses” of the VAZ 2110 help or harm it. Some people believe that they are needed when the springs have sagged, and with their help it will be possible to raise the rear of the car. Others suggest replacing the springs and not “fencing up houses”.

Increasing rear suspension stiffness

In order to tune the rear suspension of the VAZ-2107, you need to replace several components. Namely: springs, shock absorbers, silent blocks and rubber bumpers.

In order to make a balanced modification of the rear suspension of the VAZ-2107, you need to take into account the lift height and spring length. You may have to remove a few threads to get the correct fit. The springs need to be changed to more powerful and stiffer ones. Usually good for replacing springs from a Niva car.

The next step is to replace the shock absorbers. The main thing here is to meet the requirements. It is better to look for shock absorbers with a fixed rod, as they are usually much stiffer than their counterparts.

Even seemingly insignificant parts: bumpers and silent blocks must be replaced with more reliable and powerful ones. Because abrasion of rubber bands leads to deterioration in car control. This is immediately felt, so upgrading the chassis makes the car more reliable to use.

Safety

Whatever method of increasing the ground clearance on the VAZ 2110 you choose (if you need it, of course), remember that safety comes first. You want to get a car that will be more stable on the road, and not ready to roll over every minute even on a small obstacle?

Therefore, be sure to adjust the suspension to increase its elasticity. Swap out the regular tires on your car for low-profile tires. To ensure this, also install additional stabilizers.

Refinement of the cylinder head

In addition to the intake manifold, it is necessary to modify the channels in the cylinder head itself, since there is a step between the manifold and the cylinder head that prevents the free passage of the fuel-air mixture into the cylinders. On classic heads this transition can reach 3 mm. Refinement of the head comes down to the following steps:

    To determine where part of the metal needs to be removed, apply lubricant or plasticine to the plane of the head in the places where the commutator fits. After this, it will be clearly visible where and how much to grind off.

In addition to boring the channels, the cylinder head can be modified by installing a tuned camshaft. Most often, car owners install a shaft from a VAZ 21213, less often - sports elements of the “Estonian” type and the like.

Replacing the standard camshaft makes it possible to change the valve timing. As a result, the engine cylinders are better filled with the combustible mixture and are also cleaned of exhaust gases, which increases the power of the power unit. The camshaft is changed in the same way as during normal repairs, i.e. no special devices are required.

Cylinder block boring

The VAZ 2106 engine does not stand out for its power, because it ranges from 64 to 75 hp. With. with a volume of 1.3 to 1.6 liters, depending on the installed power unit. One of the common engine modifications is boring the cylinder block, which allows you to increase

internal diameter of cylinders and power. The boring process involves removing a layer of metal from the inner surface of the cylinders. However, you need to understand that excessive boring will lead to thinning of the walls and a decrease in the reliability and service life of the motor. Thus, the stock power unit with a volume of 1.6 liters and a cylinder diameter of 79 mm can be bored to 82 mm, giving a volume of 1.7 liters. With such changes, reliability indicators will practically not deteriorate.

Extreme lovers can increase

cylinders up to 84 mm at your own peril and risk, because no one knows how long such a motor will last.

The boring process is carried out on special equipment (boring machine), although there are craftsmen who carry out this procedure almost in a garage, and the accuracy remains questionable.

At the end of the procedure, pistons are inserted into the block, which in their characteristics correspond to the new cylinder sizes. In general, block boring consists of the following main stages:

  • Removing the engine from the car.
  • Complete disassembly of the power unit.
  • Boring the cylinder block according to the desired parameters.
  • Assembly of the mechanism with replacement of pistons.
  • Installing a motor on a car.

Step-by-step instructions for adjusting headlights on a VAZ 2114

Individual setup is done in stages:

  • determine the location of the work - flat surface, length 10 m, smooth vertical wall;
  • mark the wall;
  • prepare lamps;
  • adjust low beam.

Attention! Be sure to set the VAZ 2114 headlight hydraulic corrector to the zero position.

Individual adjustment of headlights on a VAZ 2114 is done in stages

Step by step instructions:

  • prepare the site;
  • place the car at a distance of 5 meters from the wall;
  • turn off the engine;
  • lines “1”, “2”, “O” were drawn on the wall, recording the results of the adjustment;
  • place a load of 80 kg on the driver’s seat;
  • move back 2.5 m;
  • on straight line “1” mark the centers of the lanterns;
  • draw lines “A”, “B” through the intersection points;
  • set the hydraulic headlight range control to “0”;
  • open the hood;
  • turn on low beam;
  • cover the non-correctable optical device with an opaque material;
  • We adjust the headlights using the adjusting screws one by one. Screw “1” – vertical plane, “2” – horizontal;
  • achieve the light beam directions accordingly

Adjusting the headlights of the VAZ 2114 is completed when the boundaries of the light beam spots and lines coincide. The left coincides with line “2”. Vertical “A”, “B” pass through points “E1”, “E2” - the intersections of inclined and horizontal sections of the contour of light spots.

Adjusting the headlights of the VAZ 2115 is carried out similarly to the adjustment instructions for the VAZ 2114.

If the boundaries of the spots of the light beam coincide, the adjustment of the headlights of the VAZ 2114 is completed

Compressor or turbine for the “six”

You can increase engine power by installing a compressor or turbine, but first you need to figure out what is required for this. First of all, you need to understand that, due to its design features, it is possible to install a turbine on a carburetor engine, but it is quite problematic. The nuances include both large material and time costs. The most important points to think about when equipping a car with a turbine are:

READ How to remove the rear seat of a VAZ 2115

    Mandatory installation of an intercooler. This part is a kind of radiator, only the air is cooled in it. Since the turbine creates high pressure and the air is heated, it must be cooled to obtain the effect of the installation. If you don't use an intercooler, there will be an effect, but much less.

If you are not such an avid racing driver, then you should look towards the compressor, which has the following differences from the turbine:

  • Does not develop high blood pressure.
  • There is no need to install an intercooler.
  • You can equip a VAZ carburetor engine.

To equip a VAZ 2106 with the unit in question, you will need a compressor kit - a kit that includes everything necessary for converting the engine (pipes, fasteners, supercharger, etc.).

The product is installed according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Refinement of the intake and exhaust system

Upgrading the cylinder head and manifolds, if desired, can be done by anyone who owns a “six” or another classic Zhiguli model. The main goal pursued is to increase power. It is achieved by reducing the resistance when supplying the fuel-air mixture at the inlet, i.e. by removing roughness. To carry out the procedure, the cylinder head must be removed from the vehicle and disassembled. After this, it is recommended to wash the unit. For these purposes, you can use modern means or ordinary kerosene or diesel fuel. From the necessary list of tools and materials you will need:

  • drill with the ability to adjust speed;
  • drill;
  • flexible rod;
  • rollers;

Replacing the crankshaft

The engine of the VAZ “six” has a VAZ 2103 crankshaft with a piston stroke of 80 mm. In addition to increasing the diameter of the cylinders, you can increase

stroke of the piston, thereby boosting the engine. For the purposes under consideration, the engine is equipped with a VAZ 21213 crankshaft with a piston stroke of 84 mm. This way it will be possible to increase the volume to 1.65 liters (1646 cc). In addition, such a crankshaft has eight counterweights instead of four, which has a positive effect on the dynamic characteristics.

What creates oil pressure in the system

An oil pump equipped with a pressure reducing valve is responsible for creating oil pressure in the engine.

Oil pump operation diagram.

Structurally, these devices may differ, but their operating principle is the same - a block of two gears sucks oil through an oil intake from the sump and sends it into the system through an oil filter. A valve must be installed at the outlet of the pump to prevent the pressure from increasing above the maximum set value. It's called reduction.

What problems with the lubrication system may occur, what are their causes and how to deal with it, we will consider further.

The low oil pressure light came on

As mentioned above, the most common and dangerous situation for the motor is the situation with insufficient readings. This is why most modern cars are equipped with a low oil pressure lamp on the instrument panel. And then at one moment, which cannot be called beautiful, she caught fire... What to do?

  1. The oil pressure lamp must light up when the ignition is on and the engine is stopped. If it does not light up at all, you need to replace the warning lamp in the dashboard.
  2. If the warning light does not go out while the engine is still running, it must be stopped immediately and the lubrication level checked with a dipstick. If it is below the minimum, then you just need to add liquid to the norm. There is a high probability that the problem will go away. Long-term operation at an insufficient level is prohibited by any manufacturer, since, first of all, the oil pump will be damaged, and then other parts.

If the parameter corresponds to the norm or after topping up and restarting the lamp does not go out, then dealing with the problem will be more difficult and you will definitely need to contact service.

Tuning the VAZ 2106 engine

The VAZ “six” began to be produced back in 1976. This model is long outdated both in appearance and technical characteristics. However, to this day there are still many adherents of using such cars. Some owners try to keep the car in its original form, others equip it with modern components and mechanisms. One of the primary units that undergoes tuning is the engine. Let's look at its modifications in more detail.

What is clearance?

Ground clearance (or ground clearance) is a value that characterizes the distance from the lowest point of the car (most often, the threshold) to the road surface. Ground clearance is measured in millimeters and can vary depending on the purpose of the car. For example, SUVs have higher ground clearance than a regular passenger car. Increasing the ground clearance allows you to increase the vehicle's cross-country ability, but at the same time, its resistance to rollover on the road decreases.

Below, as an example, is a table that shows the clearance

model range of VAZ cars.

VAZ 2121 “Niva” 220mm Lada Kalina (station wagon) 185 mm

As you noticed, the ground clearance of different models varies, and the difference is noticeable in the modifications of the car. So, for example, the Niva has a ground clearance of 220 mm, which allows it to overcome high obstacles, and the ground clearance of the G8 allows it to be more stable when cornering and develop greater speed, since when the height of the car is reduced, the frontal resistance of the oncoming flow is reduced air. Also, the high ground clearance of station wagons allows them to transport large loads without the vehicle sagging or “clinging” with the bottom of uneven road surfaces.

Clearance

The car is also a balance between high and low car height. After all, too high a height, as mentioned earlier, reduces its speed of movement due to increased air flow, and too low a height, although it will provide a fairly high speed and good stability, but exposes the bottom of the car to damage on high potholes and mounds.

How to increase ground clearance (clearance)

Increasing ground clearance is most often done by off-road driving enthusiasts, hunters and other people who like to go out of town. Roads in the city are significantly different from country roads. That is why increasing the clearance for cars unsuitable for these roads is one of the most important procedures.

  • First method. An increase in ground clearance is achieved by installing wheels with a larger diameter. This is especially true for cars with basic equipment.

Among the disadvantages of this method are the appearance of a speedometer error and the limitation of the diameter by the wheel arches. This means that if you install a wheel that is too large in diameter, it will hit the arches on sharp turns.

  • Second method. Installing spacers under the fastenings of suspension parts to the body, for example, springs, also allows you to increase ground clearance. Complete with spacers, you should purchase shock absorber extensions, or new extended shock absorbers, since when entering a deep hole, the shock absorber may fly out of the cup.

The disadvantage of this method is that the rear spacers are much thicker than the front ones and the increase in ground clearance occurs unevenly. In this regard, the brake force regulator, or “sorcerer” as it is called, receives incorrect information. However, the “sorcerer” has the ability to regulate.

  • Third method. It is reminiscent of the second method and consists of replacing standard springs with springs with a large number of turns. In this way, a significant increase in ground clearance can be achieved. However, as in the second method, it is necessary to lengthen or replace the shock absorbers for the same reasons.

Compared to spacers, new springs will last much longer and more reliably, however, in addition to the same disadvantages, they have a high cost.

  • Fourth method. Reinforced springs. This option is used for vehicles that are operated at full load. They can be pickup trucks and station wagons, which have the ability to transport large cargo. Reinforced springs do not increase the vehicle's ground clearance, but their use eliminates "sagging" under full load, while maintaining normal ground clearance and protects the underbody from damage due to uneven road surfaces.

Among the advantages of this system, one can note an increase in the service life of the entire chassis, however, the comfort of a trip without a load is reduced, since the rear part will “spring” on small bumps.

how to remove and install, which is better, instructions with photos and videos

Every car has disadvantages. VAZ 2107 is no exception. The suspension on this car has never been soft and reliable. For this reason, drivers who bought a “seven” always tried to somehow make their lives easier by upgrading or completely replacing the springs in the suspension. The driver can perform this operation independently. Let's try to figure out how this is done.

Purpose of rear springs on VAZ 2107

Rear springs are essential for a comfortable ride. They are the most important part of the suspension and successfully dampen the shaking that occurs when driving on uneven roads. The springs also prevent the car from tipping over when entering a very sharp turn. And finally, when driving on a flat road, the springs keep the car body at a constant height.

The rear spring on the VAZ 2107 is located far behind the wheel

Externally, the spring is a rod made of structural steel and twisted into a spiral. The suspensions of the very first cars were equipped with springs. But now almost all cars have springs, because they take up less space in the body and are easier to maintain. In addition to springs, the VAZ 2107 also has shock absorbers, the main task of which is to dampen vibrations resulting from the operation of the spring.

About the stiffness of car springs

Speaking about the purpose of springs, one cannot help but dwell on such an important characteristic as rigidity. Car enthusiasts usually divide suspensions into “hard” and “soft”. The VAZ 2107 uses both types of suspensions. And their use is determined by the purpose of the machine.

Spring stiffness depends on many different parameters

If the owner of the “Seven” loves speed and prefers an aggressive driving style, he installs a stiffer suspension, which makes the car as stable as possible on sharp turns. And if the driver is not used to rushing, then he should install a soft suspension that provides maximum comfort when driving on uneven roads. The stiffness of the “seven” springs depends on the following parameters:

  • diameter of the spring rod. As the diameter of the rod increases, the stiffness of the spring also increases;
  • diameter of the spring itself. Spring diameter refers to the diameter of the cylinder formed by a twisted spring rod. The larger this diameter, the softer the spring will be;
  • number of turns. The more turns in the spring, the softer it is;
  • form. Springs can be cylindrical, barrel-shaped or conical. Cylindrical ones are considered the hardest, barrel-shaped ones are the softest, and conical ones occupy an intermediate position between cylindrical and barrel-shaped ones.

About the choice of springs

As mentioned above, the choice of springs should be based on the purpose of the vehicle. Those who drive fast install hard springs, and those who love comfort install soft ones. There is another situation in which replacement is indispensable: the springs may get tired. It's simple: over the years, the elasticity of any spring decreases. If this happens with the rear springs of the "seven", then the rear of the car begins to sag greatly, and the wheels, falling into a particularly deep hole, begin to touch the fender liners with a characteristic grinding sound. After this, the driver is simply obliged to install new hard springs. Which ones to choose?

VAZ springs

If the springs wear out, the best option would be to install a set of standard rear springs for the VAZ 2107. If for some reason it was not possible to purchase “original” springs, there is a second option: springs from the VAZ 2104. They are slightly stiffer than the “original” springs, and drivers who prefer aggressive driving style, you will probably notice an improvement in the car's handling. Also, springs from the “four” are installed by those who decided to transfer their “seven” to gas fuel. Gas cylinders are heavy, therefore the rear springs must be stiffer and their free travel must be shorter. Finally, there is a third option: springs from a VAZ 2101. Today, it is not always possible to purchase new springs from a “kopek”, since the “kopek” has long been discontinued. But if you still managed to get such springs, the suspension of the “seven” will become softer after installing them.

About springs from foreign cars

It is not recommended to install rear springs from foreign cars on the VAZ 2107. The fact is that the parameters of these springs do not even come close to the standard VAZ springs. Springs on foreign cars are designed for a different car weight, a different body type, different shock absorbers, etc.

Installing springs from foreign cars on a VAZ 2107 is impractical

If the driver decides to install them, he will have to seriously modify the 7's suspension and will almost certainly have to change the rear shock absorbers, which will lead to additional costs. But even such measures do not guarantee normal operation of the suspension. Therefore, drivers who are tuning their “sevens” prefer not to mess with springs from foreign cars, getting along just fine with the VAZ springs mentioned above.

About the modernization of VAZ 2107 springs

The driver, trying to eliminate the “innate” shortcomings of the suspension or solve a specific problem, can resort to upgrading the rear springs either by shortening them or using spacers. Let's consider each case in more detail.

Spacers for springs

Domestic roads have never been of good quality. But the VAZ 2107 has never had high ground clearance. At some point, the driver gets tired of slowing down in front of each hole and decides to increase the ground clearance of his car using special spacers. They are small ring-shaped gaskets made of wear-resistant materials. Let's list the types of spacers.

  1. Spacers mounted between the turns. This is the simplest and most popular way to increase the ground clearance of a car without resorting to major modernization. No special skills are required to install interturn spacers. The wheels are jacked up and lifted in turn, and the springs are slightly stretched. After this, a spacer, previously moistened with soapy water, is installed between the turns. You can find such spacers in any spare parts store.

    The simplest spacers installed between the coils of the rear springs

  2. Spring spacers. Installed directly under the rear and front springs. The increase in ground clearance corresponds to the thickness of the spacer. Installing spring spacers is more difficult: you will first have to remove the wheels, and then the springs themselves. It will not be easy for a novice driver to carry out such an operation, so it is impossible to do without the help of qualified mechanics. An important point: spring spacers perform well only on new springs. But if the spring has lost its elasticity and “sat down,” it is not advisable to install a spring spacer under it, since the effect of the spacer will be zero. A more reasonable solution in this situation is to purchase and install new springs and spacers.

    These spacers are mounted in thrust cups under the springs

  3. The spacers are adjustable. These are the same spring spacers, but their design includes the ability to change the ground clearance using special bolts. These spacers are the best option for anyone who wants to increase the ground clearance of their “seven”. But these spacers also have three disadvantages: they are difficult to install, they are expensive, and they cannot be found everywhere.

    Adjustable spacers are the most comfortable and the most expensive

About spacer materials

Special attention should be paid to the material of the spacers, because this is the most important point that determines the reliability and durability of not only the springs, but also the entire suspension. So, spacers are:

  • aluminum;
  • polyurethane;
  • plastic.

Now a little more about each of these materials:

  • Polyurethane spacers are quite easy to install, but do not differ in durability. Their main problem is that the spring greatly deforms them, and this happens in the shortest possible time. Especially if the driver constantly drives on uneven roads. Over time, due to the deformation of the spacers, the shock absorbing bushings begin to touch the car body, seriously damaging it;

    Polyurethane spacers have never been known for durability

  • aluminum spacers. They are more reliable than polyurethane ones and do not allow the bushings to touch the body. But they also have a drawback. Some aluminum spacers may contain steel elements that can easily corrode. This is especially pronounced if the driver drives on roads that are often sprinkled with chemicals;

    Aluminum spacers are more reliable than polyurethane ones, but also more expensive

  • spacers made of wear-resistant plastic. The best option. They wear out for a long time, practically do not deform, and do not rust. Plastic spacers have only one disadvantage: high cost.

    The best spacers for the “seven”, but their price is sometimes frankly too high

On the advisability of installing spacers

The advisability of installing spacers is a very controversial issue, discussions on which continue to this day. Spacers have many supporters and many opponents. If a driver comes to a car service center and asks to install spacers, they are installed. But as a rule, specialists first try to dissuade the driver from this operation. Their arguments usually boil down to the following:

  • After installing the spacers, the suspension arms will be constantly lowered by several centimeters. This leads to a violation of the geometry of the entire suspension. Consequently, the suspension will work differently. There may be changes in the track width, in the vehicle's handling, in the angles of inclination of the wheel axles, etc. Under normal conditions, all this will not be too noticeable. But in emergency situations, impaired controllability can lead to very sad consequences;
  • installing spacers increases the load on the suspension. Shock absorbers wear out faster, as do silent blocks. Because the mating angles of the steering rods and drive wheel shafts change after installing the spacers.

The conclusion from all that has been said is simple: before installing spacers, the driver will have to carefully weigh the pros and cons and decide whether he really needs such an upgrade.

Shortened springs

Drivers do not always strive to increase the ground clearance of the “Seven”. There are also those who try to reduce ground clearance by installing shortened springs. A variety of methods are used for this.

Cutting coils from “original” springs

The most popular way to shorten the rear springs of the "seven" is to simply cut them off. This task can be done by any experienced driver who has the skills to work with the so-called grinder. But even such a driver will need help.

The coils from the spring are usually cut using a grinder

There are two options for cutting springs: with removing the spring and without removing it. On the rear springs of the “sevens”, three lower turns are usually cut off. There are two on the front ones. The difference of one turn is not accidental: the front of the car is heavier, since the engine is located there, therefore, the car must be balanced. The shortened springs are placed in their standard places, after which the car is necessarily installed on a stand for wheel alignment adjustment.

Experienced car owners can cut the coils without removing the spring from the car

The advantage of this method is its low cost. But there are also disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that with this scheme, the first, supporting coils of the springs, on which the springs stand in their cups, are cut off. As a result, the interaction between the spring and cup deteriorates, the cup wears out faster, and the suspension can become significantly stiffer.

Purchase and installation of short springs

Now on the auto parts market you can find a lot of shortened springs, including for the “seven”. These springs are approximately 35–40 mm shorter than the original ones. A person who decides to install short springs should know: for the best result, you will also have to change the struts (as a rule, short springs come complete with struts, these are the so-called sports kits). It is better to install such a kit in a car service center, since there are not only qualified auto mechanics there, but also stands for wheel alignment adjustment.

Short springs are usually sold in sets of 4 pieces

Advantages after installing short springs: they do not “shrink” for a very long time, since they are subjected to special heat treatment and careful control. The standard rear springs of the “seven” will remain intact. If at some point the driver wants to install them back, there will be no problem. The disadvantages include the high cost of springs and increased suspension stiffness.
