How to repair
- Remove the dashboard.
- Find the relay that is bolted to the body.

- Now unscrew the motor from the body and check if it is in working condition. If the damage is minor, repair will help, otherwise replacement along with the relay is necessary.
- You also need to inspect the drive, since it may be the cause of the malfunction, namely the breakdown of its pulley.
All VAZ-2110 cars have the same windshield wipers. If they are selected incorrectly (more or less), the mechanism will wear out faster and, accordingly, it needs to be replaced or repaired.
You can replace them as follows:
- the negative terminal of the battery is disconnected;
- the wipers are pulled towards themselves and the brushes are disconnected;
- the decorative panel also needs to be removed;
- the bolt is unscrewed and the old windshield wiper is removed;
- now you need to compare the size of the new wiper and its predecessor;
- the new wiper must be identical or at most two more (otherwise there is no point in replacing);
- install in reverse order.
Finally, you need to check whether the new windshield wipers function correctly. If they, for example, squeak, something was done incorrectly during the replacement process.
Note: The wipers should operate quickly at high speeds, slowly in intermittent mode.

It is easy to modify or replace wipers. To do this you need to take several sequential steps:
- Disconnect the negative cable from the battery;
- Pull the wiper towards you;
- Remove the existing brushes;
- If there is a decorative trim, remove it;
- Unscrew the mounting bolt, thereby removing the old wiper;
- Compare the dimensions of the old and new cleaner;
- Ideally, the new device should not exceed the old one by more than 20 millimeters;
- Reverse the assembly procedure.
As you can see, changing windshield wipers is not difficult. But with the repair procedure, everything is somewhat different. But following the instructions, even an inexperienced VAZ 2110 owner will be able to do everything with his own hands.
Mechanical part
It includes:
- The brushes themselves - their working part is made of rubber and is subject to fairly rapid wear;
- A trapezoid is a structure made of metal guides; they ensure the conversion of the rotation of the electric motor into the actual operation of the wipers. The trapezoid is subject to deformation and clogging of the joints.
Accordingly, from the structure of the windshield wiper assembly, it follows that all breakdowns belong to two groups:
- Mechanical;
- Electrical.
Consider mechanical breakdowns
- If, after turning on the wipers, their electric motor is clearly working, but the wipers themselves do not move or twitch convulsively, then the reason for this is the loosening of the nut securing the trapezoid crank of the wipers to the axis of the electric motor gearbox. Sometimes this nut does not just loosen, but is completely twisted.
- The wipers work, but the synchronization and smoothness of their movements are disrupted. In this case, the cause of the breakdown is the so-called “leash”. The nut holding it in place loosens.
Both of the considered breakdowns can be corrected by simply tightening the nut securing the wiper units. Of course, before this you need to put the wipers themselves (their mechanical part) in the correct starting position.
Electrical breakdowns are as follows:
- The electric motor does not work completely. After turning on the wipers, you can’t hear them working and the wipers themselves remain motionless. The cause of this breakdown will most likely be stuck motor brushes - then they need to be returned to the correct position. Less often, the armature burns out - in this case, you will have to completely replace both the electric motor and the gearbox (they are sold only as a set).
- You can't hear the electric motor running. The wipers also don't move. After they are turned on, only the click of the bimetallic fuse is heard. The reason for this in winter is almost always freezing of the electric motor brushes. Often after this, when persistently trying to turn on the wipers, the bimetallic fuse or, less often, the electric motor armature itself blows. This problem can be easily solved by simply thawing the brushes and removing moisture from them. In more serious cases, you need to replace it with a new fuse or the electric motor itself.
- The wipers work, but in intermittent mode they continue to run continuously. At the same time, there are no sounds of alternating rotation of the electric motor armature. This problem is usually solved by simply replacing the control relay. But before doing this, you just need to check and re-clean the contacts of the limit switch - they sometimes oxidize or burn.
- The work of the wipers is carried out slowly and with stops in unpredictable places of the working stroke. The windshield wipers do not occupy the lower position at all. In this case, the cause is most often the limit switch - you need to adjust it by bending the contacts. If incorrect operation continues, the electric motor will have to be completely replaced.
All work on servicing VAZ 2110 windshield wipers begins with disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery. After this, the frill is disconnected. It is advisable to do this, since all subsequent operations are significantly speeded up.
Next, unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the entire structure of the wipers by moving them towards you. Their installation is carried out in reverse order.

In intermittent mode, under the same conditions, the number of double strokes of the gearmotor output shaft should be from 15 to 18 min –1 and the current consumption should also not exceed 3 A. In this case, the first 3–4 swings after switching on should be performed in continuous mode.

The rear wiper does not work on VAZ 2108, 2109 cars
First of all, you should localize the malfunction: turn on the ignition, turn on the steering column switch and listen to whether the rear wiper gear motor is humming. If the motor works, but the brush does not move, then most likely the problem is in its mechanical drive (reducer gear); if the motor is silent, then either it itself is faulty, or its electrical circuit is faulty.
The rear wiper of the VAZ 2108, 2109 does not work, reasons, fault diagnosis
1. The electrical circuit for turning on the rear window wiper gearmotor is faulty
— First of all, you need to check the serviceability of the fuse in the mounting block (No. 4 or F7 for different blocks). If the fuse is working, we look for the fault further; if it is blown, we replace it with a new one (later we will need to find out the reason for its burnout).
— We check the reliability of fastening and the integrity of the “mass” black wire of the gearmotor. It comes out of the connecting block of the wiring harness and is attached to its body.
— Next, we check whether electric current is supplied to the gearmotor. Turn on the ignition. After turning the key in the ignition switch, an electric current should be present at terminal “53ah” of the right steering column switch (the tip of the yellow-blue wire of its connecting block).
And also the “4” terminal of the wiring harness block to the purifier gear motor (also yellow-blue wire). See photo at the beginning of the article. We check its presence with a tester or test lamp.
— We check the voltage supply to the gearmotor to turn it on, as well as the serviceability of the steering column switch.
We close the ends of the yellow-blue and white-blue wires in the block with a piece of wire, corresponding to the terminals “53ah” and “53H” of the steering column switch. The gearmotor should work. Voltage should appear at terminal “1” of the connecting block of the gearmotor wiring harness.
If there is no electric current in any part of the circuit and the purifier gear motor does not turn on, you will have to “ring” the wires and inspect the connecting blocks for jumping, poor contact, replace the right steering column switch, etc. To troubleshoot, use the diagram: “Scheme turning on the rear wiper (rear window cleaner) on VAZ 2108, 2109 vehicles." We replace the steering column switch with a new one.
- 2. The purifier gear motor is faulty
- If it is determined that voltage is supplied to the gearmotor, but it does not work, it is necessary to remove it, disassemble it and determine the cause of the failure.
- The main most common reasons:
- — the gear of the gearbox is faulty (“teeth are licked”);
- — brushes are faulty (worn out, destroyed);
- — the gear motor shaft commutator is faulty (burnt);
- — the windings of the gearmotor are “burnt out” (“break” or “short circuit”).

Relay K1 is successfully replaced with a pad with jumpers. Its diagram is shown here. If there is no similar platform, you can temporarily close contacts 4-5. First, check everything mentioned above.
A few words about the serviceability relay
The lamp health relay is called K1, and it is the largest in the mounting block. If you pull out this relay, then when you press the pedal you can dial the voltage at terminal five (but not 4). Take another look at the diagram and it will become clear what we are talking about.

- 6 mass potential;
- 2 voltage 12, but only after turning on the ignition;

If potential 0 is not generated at terminal four, it means that the lamp filaments have burned out or there is a break in the wiring. Now let's look at something else: the mass potential has been found, but the lamps do not glow. Here suspicions arise about a small short circuit.

In practice, repairing wipers on a VAZ 2110 is not at all difficult if you have at least basic experience in working with a car and its electrical components.
First, let's figure out how to remove the wipers on a VAZ 2110. The design provides several fasteners, by unscrewing which you can easily remove the wipers themselves.
But with disassembling the windshield wiper assembly, everything is a little more complicated. It is analyzed as follows.
- Remove the dashboard.
