Weaknesses of Lada Granta control units

Firstly, the weak point of any Lada Granta control unit is its leakage and installation location. The ECU is located under the glove compartment, behind the upholstery.

Errors numbered P0422 (441, 444, 445) indicate that the converter has become completely ineffective, the system that captures gasoline vapors is damaged, or the air through the adsorbent purge valve is not consumed correctly, or there is a violation in the valve in the iceberg purge. The only difference is that a normal connection break may occur, and in the second - a short circuit along the circuit, and the action may indicate both the ground and the on-board network, which, in turn, will also require transportation for maintenance.

P0480 (481) indicates problems with the fan relay, or an open circuit along the circuit responsible for controlling the fan. It may also indicate that the fan is no longer receiving the required degree of cooling.

The fifth part of the errors, numbered P0500 (506, 507, 511, 560, 562, 563), is not a separate group, but allows us to conclude that if they appear, the sensors may no longer display the speed at which the car is moving.

As mentioned at the beginning of the article, Granta received new “brains” with CAN support (M74CAN). This innovation is capable of integrating “brains” with alarms and radios with a CAN bus.

They often install a “Standard” controller with Itelma number 11186-1411020-22: This ECU is not compatible with earlier VAZ models. In early VAZs, for example, Priora, the ECU came with a K-channel for data transmission.

Typical faults

If the electrical package control unit fails for some reason, this can lead to the following problems:

  1. Failure to operate power windows. Of course, before disassembling the control module, you should make sure that the window regulators do not work precisely because of it. It would be logical to first check the safety element, as well as the lift control unit, which is built into the driver's door. In practice, it often happens that the cause of power window failure is poor wiring contact on the unit itself.
  2. The optics stopped working - low beam, turn signals, etc. In this case, the safety elements, light sources and steering switch are first checked. There is a possibility that the reason lies in a broken contact directly on the switch; if this is the case, then they should be re-soldered. If the reason is that the unit is not working, it will need to be dismantled and disassembled in order to find the burnt-out element and re-solder it. If soldering does not help solve the problem, the device will have to be replaced.
  3. Some of the equipment has stopped working, while the devices, as at first glance may seem, are in no way connected with each other. The fact is that the module itself includes many elements and controllers, each of them is responsible for performing certain functions. If two or more controllers fail at once, it can cause serious damage. For example, the optics, heated rear and front windows, the trunk door and the window regulator will immediately refuse to work. It is necessary to locate the failed controller and replace it by re-soldering.
  4. A fairly common problem that can occur is a break in the wiring of the unit. It is installed in a virtually inaccessible place, but if electrical work is being done, for example, installing an anti-theft system, then most likely the car owner will encounter a TsBKE. And if the wiring is damaged during the work, of course, this will affect the functioning of the device and, accordingly, the performance of certain functions.
  5. Oxidation of contacts on module connectors. If you encounter such a problem, we recommend paying attention to the humidity in the cabin. Often, oxidation at the outlets occurs precisely as a result of high humidity. The contacts can be cleaned, this is not a problem, but the problem of humidity must be addressed, since otherwise it can lead to failure of the microcircuit as a whole.
  6. Board failure. The most terrible problem for the car owner, because because of this the device simply will not be able to work normally. Accordingly, it will need to be replaced, and this, in turn, costs a lot of money (author - Alexander Fisher).

When I was digging towards the electronics control unit (the windows on the starboard side also moved jerkily and I had to wait until the unit either cooled down or rebooted) I came across records of people whose contacts in the driver's door connector or in the harness near the driver's left foot were green . Everything there was in new condition, and only replacing the comfort unit helped.

Describe what you did to the car before? Have you touched the immobilizer before? What additional electrical components are installed in the car (alarm, auto start, etc.) This is important in order to understand the problem.

On Kalina, the luxury electrical package consists of an immobilizer (the master unit for data exchange via the bus), a control unit in the driver's door and an electrical package control unit under the left rear seat. They communicate via a line bus. There are no relays in the fuse box that control the system. Only fuses. If I'm not mistaken, then there are 2 of them. One is responsible for the entire electrical package, the second for the immobilizer (namely the car starting function). The immobilizer in LC1 also performs the functions of turning on both front and rear foglights, controlling heated mirrors (signal transmission via the line bus) and interior lighting.

There is a problem that in the central left pillar the wires going to the left rear door begin to short out. Then the electrical system literally starts going crazy, rolling down all the windows, setting the alarm against its will, etc. Check this moment.

Overall the system is quite reliable.

The immobilizer was not touched at all. There is an additional alarm with auto start. There were symptoms - the rear window failed, then the driver's window began to move jerkily, a couple of cm at a time. I threw in a used window control unit and the comfort unit died completely. There was a strong burning smell; upon opening, 2 burnt mics were found. Then, by ringing, I discovered that both rear motors were closed. I disconnected the chips from them so as not to burn the new block. And for glass and locks to malfunction, this did not happen.

There is a 99% probability - a short circuit in the central pillar. This is exactly what happened to me.
