Instead of a mask, you can use a regular cardboard sheet placed between the radiator and the grille. But it is worth considering that you cannot completely close the radiator; heat exchange must still occur. Therefore, a sheet of cardboard should not cover more than 2/3 of the radiator area.

There is no need to take this into account with a mask, since in addition to the grille, there are enough holes in the front end for the air flow to pass to the radiator.

Old style stove

First, let's look at how to repair the heating radiator of an old-style stove. Its removal is done from the hood side as follows:

  1. Remove the rubber frill seal;
  2. We find the screw securing the frill under the main brake cylinder and unscrew it;
  3. We unscrew the screws securing the right part of the frill (there are 4 of them);
  4. We unhook the 2 clamps located on the frill, securing the hoses and wires;
  5. Disconnect the “plus” terminal and the “minus” wire of the fan;
  6. The left side of the frill needs to be moved forward without removing completely. To do this, just unscrew a couple of screws;
  7. Remove the windshield;
  8. If there is one, then the terminal of the sensor indicating the antifreeze level must be disconnected. Remove the steam exhaust hose from the expansion tank.

Next we shoot one by one:

  • Front window washer hose;
  • Windscreen wipers;
  • Windshield trim;
  • Clamps securing the heater body;
  • Its front part along with the fan;
  • Cabin filter;
  • Another part of the fan housing;
  • All hoses: supply, return and steam exhaust;
  • And finally, not without effort, we can remove the radiator housing.

If you have a copper one and you find a small leak in it, do not rush to throw it away; repair is quite possible for it. Copper is easy to solder, but if you do not have such experience, it is better to entrust this task to an experienced craftsman. Believe me - it's worth it.

Still, copper is in first place in terms of quality among radiators, followed by DAAZ. In any case, before replacing, inspect the unit, clean it, and assess whether it can be repaired.

When installing the same, cleaned, already fixed or new radiator, make sure that the pedal of the plastic fan housing (it is better to replace it with an aluminum one) fits exactly into the groove, otherwise the gearbox will not be able to change the position of the damper, and you will not receive heat.

Radiator and heater fan

You should know that in order to always keep the interior of a five-wheeler warm and cozy, especially on winter days, you need to be able to increase the amount of heat supplied. Which part is directly responsible for supplying warm air? Of course, the radiator. But there is a problem - at the top five the fan is so loud that it makes you laugh. It is very small and simply not capable of creating the required flow. What to do? First, let's compare the fans on the VAZ 2105 and the VAZ 2108. The first motor consumes 4.5 A current and has a rotation speed of 3000 rpm, and the second one 14 A, but spins 4100 rpm. This already says something.   • the lower part of the stove is removed (this is a simple casing, on top of which a regular electric fan is installed);
  • the old fan is removed;
  • we cut off one of the aerodynamic ridges that supply air to the legs of the driver and passenger (this is done due to the fact that the fan motor of the VAZ 2108 is much longer);
  • the impeller is also removed, which will not allow the fan from the VAZ 2108 to sit in place;
  • Instead, a homemade one is installed.

Advice. In order not to remove the impeller, but to leave everything as is, you can use another fan. A standard five-bladed fan for classics, which has a motor several times more powerful, is suitable. And its weight is much lighter, and the rotor of the new motor rotates stronger than even that of the VAZ 2108.

However, the test consists of the same thing: the voltage at the outputs must change. If this does not happen, then the system has failed. In this case, the hot and cold air outlet shutter will fail to operate.

Diagnostics of the valves is carried out as follows: the upper valve regulates the processes of suction of external cold air into the furnace, while the lower one passes heated air through the radiator. If the drive or one of the dampers breaks down, the oven stops working completely or partially. These parts break quite often: they jam, fail due to the presence of rust, or simply due to poor-quality drive operation. The damper of the VAZ-2110 car is made of metal or plastic, the latter are of worse quality, since due to hot air flows they are often deformed, which leads to jamming. At the same time, metal dampers suffer from rusting. Simply put, in the case when warm air flows to the side and hot air flows down, this indicates that the damper has partially opened, which has led to incomplete absorption of external air. The dampers are checked using an ohmmeter. Connect the device, set the lowest temperature and wait about 12-15 seconds. If the device does not produce any changes, then the system has failed.

Another common problem is the furnace fan cranking at one speed. In this case, the heater does not need to be disassembled, the reason is immediately clear - the problem is in the resistor. Rotating exclusively at third speed, it is considered burnt out and cannot be repaired; it must be replaced with a new one.

If the tube shows signs of severe corrosion, then it should be replaced. The stove tap may also be faulty: if the tap handle is jammed (i.e. the tap does not open or close) or traces of coolant leakage are visible, then it must be replaced.

In the event that you had to replace the stove radiator itself, then both the tube and the tap from the old radiator can be screwed onto a new one. It is also necessary to install new gaskets: lubricate the gaskets with silicone sealant, and then tightly, but not too tightly, so as not to crush the gasket and tear off the threads, screw the metal tube and tap to the radiator. It is worth lubricating the radiator tubes with silicone sealant before attaching rubber hoses to them.

When the replacement of parts is completed, install the elements of the heating system in the reverse order, then fill in the coolant, start the car and check the tightness of the connections of the pipes and hoses. How to improve airflow yourself

  2. Correctly orient and place the thermostat in the housing.
  3. Next, tighten all existing cover bolts. To be able to do this, you need to try.
  4. Reinstall all hoses in their original locations, then fill with coolant.
  5. You should also start the engine until it reaches operating temperature to make sure there are no leaks.

Sometimes a malfunction occurs due to a break in the wires supplying the mounting block or due to a burnout of the current-carrying track in it.

And finally, destruction of the resistor circuit may also occur - it is checked and the element that has become unusable is replaced with a serviceable one.

Other problems with the heating system

Although heater radiator breakdowns occur most often, there are other malfunctions that can be easily fixed with your own hands:

  1. Fan motor failure. Problems are created by the rotor bushings, which on the “original” motor are made of low-quality material. As soon as the heating system fan begins to whistle, it needs to be replaced with a non-original one, in which bearings are installed instead of bushings.
  2. Heater valve wear. It suffers from scale, dirt, and simply wears out. Cranes are usually not repaired, but replaced. It is better to replace a faucet with a ceramic core; it is much more reliable and durable than a metal one.
  3. Breakage of control unit rods. Everything is clear here: what should be regulated is not regulated - check the condition of the rods and their connection. Sometimes the problem is solved in just half an hour.

More complex work, such as tuning or modifying the stove, is no longer considered troubleshooting. Of course, the stove on a VAZ opens up endless possibilities for improvements and additions, but you can get by with what you have at the moment. The main thing is that everything works as it should, and then you definitely won’t freeze in winter.
