How much oil is needed for the box and transfer case of the UAZ Patriot

UAZ Patriot is a domestic passenger car with increased cross-country ability, which has an all-wheel drive chassis. The SUV uses a five-door all-metal body, which is also found on many other models produced by the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. The use of this design is primarily due to a fairly high margin of safety, which makes this SUV suitable for use on various categories of roads, as well as off-road and rural areas. The first samples of the Patriot rolled off the production line in 2005 and the model remains in production to this day.

This car is technically very similar to its predecessor, namely the UAZ-3162 Simbir, since the new model inherited many elements from it. The bridges remained unchanged, the same Spicer axles are used here, and interior options remained available, which are available for five or nine seats, depending on the configuration. In addition, a line of installed engines remained, but only the latest models were brought to the Euro-3 environmental level. The main difference between the Patriot and its predecessor is a significantly increased level of comfort. This is due to the fact that the manufacturer uses foreign components and elements, of which there are a very large number in the final design. The hydraulic power steering was installed from the Italian manufacturer Delphi Italia Automotive srl, the brake system was used from the German company ContiTeves, the steering wheel was also provided by the German company Takata-Petri AG, and the mechanical transmission system was installed from the Korean manufacturer Dymos. Foreign-made elements were also used in the interior, for example, all the seats were manufactured by DAWNSCO, and microclimate systems such as ventilation, heating and air conditioning were provided by the British company Sanden International Europe Ltd.

A year after the start of mass production, safety improvements were introduced. An anti-lock braking system from Bosch was installed. In 2008, the heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems were improved, which had a positive effect on comfort. The engine cooling system was also not left without improvement.

In 2012, the manufacturer again slightly updated the UAZ Patriot. This time, the dashboard was completely updated, and a more injury-resistant four-spoke steering wheel manufactured by Takata-Petri AG was installed. Instead of a standard radio, the manufacturer installed an improved one in the new model, which has a 2DIN dimension. The radio used has one USB connector, which allows you to connect various USB media. It is worth noting that previously there was no such opportunity in the UAZ Patriot.

In 2013, the technical part of the car was improved. Now the SUV is equipped with a new Korean-made Dymos transfer case. The new transfer case has electric control, due to the fact that there is a special washer in the cabin that allows you to select one or another gear instead of the standard shift lever. The rear propeller shaft was slightly shortened in length and the intermediate support was removed from the structure. A control unit was placed on the driver's door, through which the driver can control all power windows in the cabin and adjust the rear-view mirrors. An ordinary parking brake has also appeared, that is, the wheels of the rear axle are now blocked instead of the driveshaft. The ceiling in the cabin has been changed, and the central rear-view mirror and passenger handles have also been changed. Among the trim levels, a version with a “Winter Package” appeared. This equipment includes a heated windshield, an individual heating system for rear-row passengers and a heated rear-row seat system.

In October 2014, UAZ Patriot acquired new lighting equipment. In addition, the model has new bumpers and modified seats. The manufacturer supplemented the chassis with the installation of a stabilizer bar and new driveshafts. New cardan shafts differ from previously used ones in that they have an increased service life and are less demanding on regular maintenance. This year's model can be equipped with a new multimedia system as an additional option. This equipment includes a rear view camera and a navigation system. The modified UAZ Patriot entered the market in the same year, in November.

What kind of oil to fill in the gearbox

Compliance with the manufacturer's recommendations improves the performance characteristics of the machine - controllability, cross-country ability, reliability. The use of low-quality oil accelerates the wear of SUV parts. When choosing a lubricant, take into account which part will be processed with this liquid:

  1. Transfer case housing. In this case, purchase lubricants with a viscosity index of 75W90 according to SAE. The recommended API product category is GL-3.
  2. Rear and front axles. For UAZ Patriot, it is recommended to purchase a lubricant that corresponds to class GL-5 in terms of performance, viscosity grade 75 W.
  3. Dymos gearbox. Lubricant corresponding to category GL-4 is poured here. The viscosity of the product is 75W85.

Buying 3 types of oil is not economically feasible.

The products are supplied in large volume containers. Leftover lubricant is not suitable for long-term storage. Experienced drivers advise using a GL-4 category product with a viscosity of 75W90 to process all components. The material has proven itself well when poured into the main components of a Russian SUV.

Refueling volumes

To know how much oil is needed for a complete change, you need to study the instructions. Here are the volumes of such transfer case units:

  • Bridges. 1.4 liters of lubricant are poured into the front part of this unit, and 1.3 liters into the rear part. The total volume is 2.7 liters.
  • Handout. The capacity of this part is 700 ml.
  • Checkpoint "Daimos". 2.5 liters of liquid are poured into this unit.

If each part uses its own oil, purchase a liter of fluid for the gearbox, 3 liters for axles and gearboxes. When using one type of product, all previously obtained indicators are summed up. The total volume will be 7 liters.

What kind of oil to pour into the UAZ Patriot gearbox

The oil in the UAZ Patriot 2013 gearbox must be selected taking into account the recommendations of the manufacturer. In this case, the lubricant will last a long time and will not change its performance characteristics. Replacement with analogues is acceptable, the main thing is that they correspond to the class and viscosity.

Important! To extend the life of the UAZ Patriot gearbox with oil, you need to choose a high-quality, proven product. Poor working fluid negatively affects the service life of the gearbox. The following types of oils are suitable for a manual transmission of an SUV:

The following types of oils are suitable for an SUV's manual transmission:

  1. Mineral is inexpensive, but it is worth using it with significant mileage. The liquid is thick, performs well in warm climates, but in winter it hardens quickly, which can cause problems with starting. The savings on mineral water are significant, but experienced drivers do not recommend choosing such a product unnecessarily.
  2. Semi-synthetic is a good option for the UAZ Patriot manual transmission, but there are some nuances. This look is definitely better than the previous one. However, when partially replacing mineral water, it is not advisable to use semi-synthetics.
  3. Synthetic is the highest quality and most expensive option. The lubricant effectively lubricates parts at any temperature range and can withstand extreme operating conditions. There will be enough oil for an impressive mileage.

Since prices and characteristics vary, the choice must be made taking into account personal wishes. Inexpensive lubricants may have a decent level of performance, but their service life is usually shorter.

Servicing a manual transmission involves partial replacement of waste, that is, the products inside the box are mixed

Let's start changing the oil

To change the transmission oil, you first need to acquire the following materials: two keys for 23 and 24, a technical container (the old oil will drain into it), a filling syringe, a new oil filter, new oil, rags, gloves.

The procedure for changing the oil in a UAZ Patriot manual transmission:

  • We drive 10 kilometers to warm up the engine to operating temperature.
  • We place the car on an overpass, or use a lift or inspection pit. In any case, it is necessary to provide full access to the bottom of the car
  • We climb under the car and place a technical container. The waste will flow into it
  • On the gearbox we find the oil drain plug, unscrew it with a 23 key, then observe the process of the used oil flowing out along with dirt and metal shavings
  • Wait for the old fluid to drain. After making sure that the oil has been completely drained, tighten the plug, first cleaning it and the hole from dirt and soot. The copper gasket on the drain plug may have deteriorated. In this case, you will have to install a new plug
  • Fill the box with new lubricant using a filling syringe. It is necessary to pour in a certain amount of liquid equal to 2.5 liters. You may need to add a little more oil later. So, let's put the plug in place. At this point, the process of changing the oil in the UAZ Patriot manual transmission has been successfully completed, and you can begin further operation of the car.

Before starting work, prepare new lubricant, wrenches with heads of different diameters, a syringe for refilling, technical containers, rags, gloves, and a new filter.

How much oil is in a box of Daymos UAZ Patriot

The oil volume in the UAZ Patriot transmission is standard – 1.5-1.6 liters. It is recommended to take a small supply so that there is definitely enough transmission for the work. If the system needs to be flushed, add a couple more liters of liquid.

How to change and fill oil in a UAZ Patriot box

When the transmission oil for UAZ Patriot, as well as tools and accessories are ready, you can start replacing. Procedure:

  1. Drive about 10 km to warm up the engine to operating temperatures.
  2. Drive the car onto an overpass or, if it is more convenient, use an inspection hole or a lift. You need to gain full access to the car from below.
  3. Get under the car and place a container under the drain hole. The waste will flow into it, it will be useful to assess the quality and condition of the liquid.
  4. Find the oil drain plug on the manual transmission, unscrew it with the 23rd key, and make sure that the oil flows out as needed.
  5. Wait until the old liquid drains out, then tighten the plug, having first cleared the hole of soot and dirt. Probably, the copper gasket has become unusable - then a new one is put in its place.
  6. Fill the manual transmission with new lubricant using a filling syringe. You need to pour in up to 2 liters or a volume equal to the drained volume. Oil should be purchased in reserve - sometimes checking the level shows that it is insufficient, in which case it is topped up.

At this point, the replacement process can be considered successfully completed.

How to check the oil level in a UAZ Patriot box

According to the regulations, oil is poured into the Korean UAZ Patriot gearbox at specified intervals, but there are situations when they can and should be reduced. To assess the condition of the lubricant and its quantity, you need to do regular level tests. To carry out the procedure, prepare a syringe, a clean rag, and a key with a 23 head.

Procedure:

  1. Drive the car onto a viewing hole or lift.
  2. Remove all dirt from the oil filler plug. The lubrication level is limited by the lower edge of the oil filler hatch, which is located on the right side of the manual transmission housing.
  3. Unscrew the hole plug and wipe it clean.
  4. Test the grease content.
  5. Add lubricant with a syringe if it is not enough.
  6. Return the plug to its place and remove any spills from the body with a rag.

You can add lubricant if the one already in the box is in good condition. In other cases, only complete maintenance with flushing of the system will help.

Important! If there is a lot of transmission fluid in the system, immediately after unscrewing the oil filler plug, it will flow out.

Engine

Check the oil level regularly and top it up to ensure proper operation, especially before long trips.

Check the level when the car is on a flat horizontal platform. After stopping the engine, the oil level should be checked no earlier than 15 minutes later.

The amount of oil required to top up from the “MIN” mark to the “MAX” mark is approximately 1 liter.

Attention!

Filling engine oil at a level above the “MAX” mark will lead to disruption of normal engine operation: increased oil waste, increased toxicity, contamination and failure of spark plugs.

Changing the oil must be done together with replacing the oil filter. Drain the oil with the engine warm.

To change the oil, place the car on a level surface or overpass, open the engine cover and unscrew the engine oil sump drain plug with a 24 mm wrench. The oil drains for at least 10 minutes.

Be careful when draining the oil - the oil may be very hot.

Before tightening the drain plug, check the condition of the sealing gasket. Replace the damaged gasket.

At the same time as changing the oil, the oil filter must be replaced. Use a special wrench to loosen the oil filter. If there is no such key, pierce the filter housing with a screwdriver and, using it as a lever, unscrew the filter, punching the filter as close to the bottom as possible so as not to damage the fitting. You can also use a double-folded strip of coarse sandpaper, wrap it around the filter and push it out of place with your hands. Before installing the filter, lubricate the rubber filter gasket with engine oil. Screw the filter onto the fitting until the rubber gasket of the filter touches the surface of the cylinder block and then tighten it by hand ¾ of a turn.

Fill with fresh oil to the top mark on the dipstick and start the engine. After turning off the emergency pressure lamp, stop the engine and make sure there is no oil leakage from under the filter gasket. Allow the oil to drain into the crankcase for 10 minutes and check the oil level again, adding if necessary.

When replacing one brand of oil with another, it is necessary to flush the engine lubrication system. To do this you need:

  • Drain the used oil from the crankcase of a warm engine;
  • pour special flushing or replacement oil 2-4 mm above the upper “MAX” mark of the indicator;
  • start the engine and let it run at minimum crankshaft speed for at least 10 minutes;
  • drain the special flushing or replacement oil;
  • replace the oil filter;
  • add fresh oil;
  • start the engine. After turning off the emergency oil pressure lamp
  • stop the engine and check the oil level after 15 minutes. If necessary, add oil.

Ulyanovsk residents recommend filling their engines with synthetic oil with a viscosity index depending on the operating temperature. The manufacturer recommends original oils of its own production:

UAZ Motor Oil Premium 5W-40 for the central region;

Judging by the tests carried out by the oil club and other resources, this oil is almost identical to the familiar Lukoil Lux 5w40 SN/CF

A liter of original UAZ oil costs 250 rubles, and Lukoil is around 400 rubles.

Do not mix oils of different brands and with different viscosities!

UAZ Patriot refueling tanks

The design of absolutely every modern car necessarily requires the presence of a power plant, tank, gearbox, and other units and various parts that have their own volumes. It is in these same volumes that diesel fuel is placed, as well as brake fluid, of course, gasoline or antifreeze, but all the fluids listed for each individual model are individual. We invite you to learn in detail about the filling tanks on the UAZ Patriot, which is popular in our country, plus we’ll look at what they essentially are and how much this car model requires to fill certain mechanisms.

Each owner of a UAZ Patriot independently chooses the brand of engine oil for his car. Of course, the financial component plays an important role here. However, the best choice is the oil recommended by the car manufacturer.

Checking the level and topping up

Before adding a new product, you should measure the oil level in the UAZ Patriot gearbox. This is easy to do using a probe. This device has indicators that the manufacturer recommends using. It is advisable not to go beyond their boundaries, since a lack of volume accelerates the process of wear of transmission parts, and an excess leads to the formation of soot. It is clear that such consequences must be avoided. When changing lubricant, it is imperative to check the lubricant level. At the final stage, before installing the pan and engine protection, check the amount of substance using a dipstick. If it is normal, then do not worry and put all the removed parts back together.

Transmission oils for UAZ gearboxes, transfer cases and axles, classification of oils

Transmission oils are designed to lubricate parts of manual transmissions, transfer cases and drive axles. They create a durable lubricating film at the contact points of the parts of these units, which can withstand heavy loads. Transmission oils are defined and differentiated according to the classifications generally accepted today: SAE J306 for viscosity, for example 80W, 90, 75W-85 or 80W-90, and API, which contains a comprehensive assessment of gear oils based on performance properties, for example GL-4 or GL-5. In addition, along with the API specification, indicators according to the American military specification, denoted by the MIL index, may sometimes be used. For example MIL-L-2105A or MIL-L-2105B.

Features of the classification of transmission oils according to SAE and API

SAE viscosity grades with the letter W refer to seasonal oils for the cold season, for example 75W or 80W. Accordingly, without W - to oils for warm summer time, for example 90 or 140. However, since the resource of transmission oils is quite long, using seasonal oils in everyday use, changing them in units every six months, is very inconvenient and not economically profitable.

The API classification currently contains five categories - GL-1, GL-2, GL-3, GL-4 and GL-5, which show the applicability and quality level of gear oils. For example, in category GL-5 - oil contains extreme pressure, anti-wear and other additives, used for hypoid and other types of gears in gearboxes and drive axles of cars.

Several types of synchronized gearboxes can be installed on UAZ Hunter cars and all models based on it: a four-speed Russian-made, a five-speed ADS made in China or a five-speed DYMOS made in Korea. On the UAZ Patriot and all models based on it, only a Korean-made five-speed DYMOS gearbox is installed. The plant recommends filling the four-speed gearbox with SAE 75W-90 gear oil according to API - GL-3. The Chinese-made five-speed ADS gearbox and the Korean-made five-speed DYMOS gearbox are SAE 75W-85, API GL-4.

Transmission oils for mechanical transfer case UAZ Hunter and UAZ Patriot

When equipping a vehicle with a four-speed or five-speed ADS gearbox, the plant recommends filling the mechanical transfer case produced by UAZ OJSC with the same transmission oil as the gearbox. This is quite justified, since it is due to the fact that during operation, partial flow of oil from the gearbox is possible into the transfer case. The oil level in the gearbox may drop by 8 mm. relative to the lower edge of the filler hole and will accordingly rise in the transfer case.

When the car is equipped with a Korean five-speed DYMOS gearbox, it is recommended to fill the mechanical transfer case with SAE 75W-90 gear oil according to API - GL-3. Although there is no particular point in this, since oil from the DYMOS box also tends to flow into the transfer case, so it is more rational to fill both units with the same oil to prevent possible mixing of different oils.

In the crankcase of both axles, the manufacturer recommends using transmission oil SAE 75W-90 according to API - GL-5.

Procedure

The procedure for replacing lubricant in Patriot transmission units is not particularly complicated, however, it requires patience and attentiveness from the performer. To complete the work in full, you will need to drain the used fluid from each of the system components one by one, replacing it with new lubricant. For this purpose, it is first necessary to prepare new oil in a volume sufficient for replacement, a set of car keys, containers for used fluid, as well as work clothes.

The task of replacing fluid in transmission units is carried out from the bottom of the car. In service centers, special lifts are used to ensure unhindered access to drain openings; at home, it will be enough to drive the vehicle onto a pit or overpass.

Before performing the operation, it is important to drive an SUV for about ten kilometers so that the lubricant in the system warms up to operating temperature. Under the influence of temperatures, it will become liquid and will merge faster and better from the aggregates.

Further measures are carried out in accordance with the work schedule for each transmission unit.

Changing the oil in axles

The procedures for changing the oil in UAZ Patriot axles do not differ in execution technology, so let’s look at the procedure for implementing the tasks using the rear axle as an example. In practice, you can successfully perform a replacement by following simple instructions from the car manufacturer:

  1. Locate the drain and fill caps, which are located on the rear axle housing. First, you need to clean the surfaces adjacent to the openings with a metal brush from dirt to avoid it getting into the system.
  2. Next, unscrew the filler plug to relieve pressure, after which you can unscrew the cover of the drainage hole, having previously placed a waste container under it.
  3. While the oil is draining, the plugs must be thoroughly cleaned of metal shavings that may accumulate on the inside of the caps during operation of the machine. After the oil has drained, the oil drain plug is installed in place and clamped with the recommended force.
  4. Using a technical syringe, lubricant is poured into the oil filler opening until it begins to flow out of the hole. This procedure will require about 1.3 liters of oil, depending on the quality of the waste drain.
  5. Don't forget to tighten the filler cap.

The oil change in the front axle of a UAZ Patriot is carried out in a similar way, with the only difference being that the oil filler and drain plugs must be looked for on the front axle housing. The front axle housing will contain no more than 1.4 liters of lubricant. At this point, the procedure for replacing the lubricant in UAZ Patriot axles can be considered successfully completed. Then you can move on to changing the oil in the transfer case and gearbox.

Changing the lubricant in the transfer case

The methodology for changing the oil in the transfer case of a UAZ Patriot is practically no different from the procedure for changing transmission fluid in axles. To perform the procedure, you will need to find the drain and filler holes, clean the surfaces one by one from dirt accumulations and unscrew the filler plug. Then the waste is removed into the prepared container through the drain opening. Once the liquid has drained, you need to tighten the drain plug and fill the oil through the filling opening using a technical syringe to the limit, which will be a little more than two and a half liters in volume.

Along with changing the oil in the axles and transfer case, it is recommended to change the lubricant in the gearbox, the technology of which is the same as in previous situations. When pouring new oil into the gearbox, the level should be monitored using a special dipstick with which the car is equipped. After filling and running in the car, you will need to recheck the level in the gearbox; you may need to top up the oil to normal.

After replacing the lubricant in all transmission components, you need to start the car and drive it for several kilometers, after which you drive it onto the overpass again and check all the joints for fluid leaks, and if necessary, tighten the plugs more tightly.

Refueling volumes

Having decided on the type of product required, the consumer, in order to buy it in sufficient quantities, needs to know how much oil in the UAZ Patriot will be required for a complete replacement. According to the vehicle instructions, the transmission units will require the following amount of fluid:

  1. The vehicle's axles will require a total of 2.7 liters of lubricant - 1.4 and 1.3 liters for the front and rear axles, respectively.
  2. The oil volume in the transfer case, according to the manual, is 0.7 liters.
  3. The volume of emulsion in the gearbox is 2.5 liters.

Accordingly, if you buy individual fluid for each of the components, then you will need to buy a liter of lubricant for the transfer case, and three liters of lubricant for the gearbox and axles. When deciding to fill with identical fluid for all UAZ Patriot transmission units, you will need to purchase six liters of oil.

Step-by-step procedure for changing transmission oil on a UAZ

The best and most cost-effective alternative to changing the gearbox oil at a service station is to do everything yourself, especially since for this purpose you will need a minimum of tools and additional materials. Follow the instructions below strictly and everything will work out at the highest level.

The procedure for changing the oil in a box is almost similar to the procedure for changing engine oil. Oil for filling will be required in a canister of at least 2.5 liters. That's exactly how much fits into the unit. In addition to new lubricant, you will need:

  • Unnecessary container for draining waste.
  • Keys to "23" and "24".
  • A syringe to fill in the lubricant.

Step-by-step instructions for changing the lubricant in the gearbox:

  • We drive the SUV into a viewing hole, or, if it’s convenient for someone, onto an overpass.
  • Let the power unit run for at least 15 minutes.
  • Using a key set to “23”, unscrew the drain plug located directly on the box. Immediately place the container in the old liquid.
  • We use a key set to “24” to unscrew the oil filler plug; this is required to quickly drain the oil.
  • 15 minutes is enough for all the oil to flow out. We clear everything from existing blockages.
  • Carefully and tightly tighten the drain plug. Don't forget to check the gasket made of copper. If it has become unusable, then it undoubtedly needs to be replaced.
  • Pour oil into a special hole using a large syringe. We check the level, but definitely, the unit contains at least 2.5 liters of lubricant, this must always be taken into account.
  • We tighten the cork.

As you already understand, the oil change in the box on the UAZ Patriot we are considering is completely completed. Next, what is required of you is to track the mileage in order to know when a replacement will be needed next time.

DIY replacement instructions

The list of tools used for topping up is supplemented with a container for collecting waste liquid. Before starting work, the machine is brought into the inspection hole. Before changing the oil, warm up the car, using it for its intended purpose for at least 15 minutes. This promotes liquefaction and easy removal of waste. The replacement is done like this:

  1. Place a container under the bottom to drain used oil from the transfer case. Using a wrench, unscrew the plug located in the lower part of the crankcase. Unscrewing the fill valve speeds up the waste removal process.
  2. Wait for the liquid to drain and screw in the drain plug. Before installation, the part is cleaned of dirt.
  3. Lubricant is injected using a syringe. Filling oil with a watering can will not work. A technical syringe copes with this task better.
  4. Once the desired level is reached, the filling is stopped. The plug is returned to its place.

The work is completed by turning on the engine, which promotes uniform distribution of lubricant.

Procedure for changing the oil in UAZ Patriot

Before changing the lubricant, you must prepare:

  • container for collecting old grease;
  • fresh oil in the required volume;
  • clean transmission syringe;
  • hex key size 12 mm;
  • clean cloth or rags;
  • hand and eye protection;
  • a wire brush to remove a layer of dirt from the surface of the bridges.

In the front axle

There are 2 threaded plugs on the front axle housing, designed to drain old lubricant and refill with a fresh portion of the substance. The upper hole is designed to check the liquid level, which should reach the lower edge of the channel. Both plugs are equipped with an internal hexagonal key hole measuring 12 mm.

Sequence of actions when changing the oil in the crankcase 2022 assembly:

  1. If the lubricant is being changed for the first time, it is necessary to remove the plastic seal from the drain plug. Before this, it is recommended to warm up the lubricant by driving the car for 15-20 km. Draining is carried out no later than 15 minutes after the end of the trip.
  2. Place the vehicle on a flat surface above the inspection hole or raise it on a lift. Tilt of the vehicle is not allowed, as it prevents the complete drainage of used oil from the gearboxes.
  3. Place a stable, wide-necked container with a capacity of at least 2 liters under the crankcase.
  4. Wipe the surface of the bridge and plugs from dirt with a dry cloth. Unscrew the filler channel plug, which speeds up the procedure for removing waste fluid from the bridge cavity.
  5. Unscrew the drain plug, which needs to be cleaned of metal wear debris with a cloth.
  6. After the lubricant drops stop flowing out of the bridge, the plug should be returned to its place. The conical shape of the plug ensures sealing of the joint, but the plant recommends applying an additional layer of sealant that is resistant to petroleum products to the surface.
  7. Fill the gearbox cavity with fresh lubricant using a transmission syringe with a curved spout; the liquid should be filled until a leak appears from the filling channel.
  8. Wipe the surface of the bridge from grease, and then tighten the plug with a wrench.

The breather is equipped with a screw plug with a labyrinth ventilation channel, which must be unscrewed before refilling. The disadvantage of this method is that it is impossible to check the level in the normal way, since the liquid will flow through the control hole after removing the plug.

In the rear axle

To complete the work, you will need a 12 mm internal hex key and a clean rag to wipe the surfaces from dirt and grease stains. The procedure for changing the oil in the rear axle housing is no different from pouring lubricant into the front axle gearbox. The design of the cases is unified, but 100 ml less liquid is required for refilling. Additional oil may be added through the ventilation duct.

Bridges

The plant recommends replacing the oil in the rear and front axle crankcases every 30 thousand kilometers. The volume of oil poured into the front axle crankcase is 1.4 liters. The rear axle crankcase holds 1.3 liters. To replace, we will need a 12mm hex wrench and a working container. It is better to drain the oil within 15 minutes after the trip, while it is relatively liquid.

  • Place a container under the hole to drain the oil from the crankcase.
  • To make draining easier, remove the oil filler plug.
  • Remove the drain plug and drain the oil.
  • Clean the oil drain plug from dirt and metal particles and install it in place.
  • Fill the crankcase of the desired axle with fresh oil using a syringe to the level of the oil filler hole.

According to the advice of experienced people, it is recommended to fill each bridge with oil, then tighten the plug, unscrew the breather and add another 200 ml of transmission.

It is recommended to fill all seasons - SAE 75W/90 according to API GL-5. Forum members recommend Castrol Syntrax Longlife 75w90.

Let's sum it up

UAZ Patriot transmission units are designed to operate in aggressive operating conditions, and therefore are characterized by increased endurance. Despite this, their operational period directly depends on the owner’s compliance with the regulations for their maintenance. Irregular oil changes or completely ignoring them can cause vehicle failure, reducing its handling, maneuverability and safety on the road.

It is not difficult to carry out routine maintenance of axles, transfer cases and gearboxes at home, but it is advisable to replace the transmission oil in all components, which, on the one hand, will allow you not to get confused about the timing of re-replacement, and on the other hand, will extend the life of the car. And, most importantly, do not skimp on the quality of the lubricant; the operational period of components, assemblies and the vehicle as a whole depends on this.

When is replacement necessary?

The frequency of oil changes in each transmission unit is regulated by the manufacturer in the user manual. For cars that have just left the assembly line, the first change of transmission fluids should be performed no later than after five thousand kilometers traveled. Such a short interval is explained by the fact that after assembly, new structural parts are rubbed against each other during the running-in procedure, during which there is a possibility of the formation of small metal particles, the presence of which can negatively affect the operating life of the components and the machine.

Further changes of the emulsion in the gearbox, transfer case and axles are regulated by the manufacturer at intervals after every thirty thousand vehicle miles. It should be understood that the interval between procedures may vary depending on how high-quality the product is poured into the transmission, as well as on the operating conditions of the vehicle.
