Instructions for replacing the cabin filter in a Renault Logan car

On a modern car equipped with air conditioning, such a filter is a must. It not only cleans the air in the cabin to the satisfaction of the owner, but also protects the evaporator from contamination. During operation, the evaporator is wet, everything that the street air carries through it settles on it: fluff, leaves, mosquitoes, dust, sand. As a result, not only does the operation of the air conditioner deteriorate, but this debris begins to rot, filling the interior with a characteristic odor. Special aerosol cleaning products are of little use; only a runny nose can save you from the stench.

Unfortunately, on cars assembled in Russia, the cabin filter still remains in little demand. Among the deprived is KIA Spectra. Even in a richly equipped car - with an automatic transmission, with alloy wheels - there is no such filter. However, it is easy to install in Spectrum without any modifications. This won't work with Logan. The most amazing thing is that the place for the filter is provided and has long been known to craftsmen - you just need to cut out the plastic plug of the air duct. But taking out the air duct means disassembling half the car! And working in the cramped space under the instrument panel is inconvenient. However, this is the lesser of two evils.

Where is the filter located in Renault Logan?

Since 2014, Renault cars have been assembled in Russia. In 90% of cases, Russian Renault Logan manufacturers do not provide for the installation of an air filter in the cabin of the basic configuration. In this place there is often a plug in the form of a plastic cover. You won’t be able to find it with the naked eye, but checking its availability yourself won’t be difficult.

Location information is indicated in the vehicle manual.

The location of the cabin air cleaner is the same for all cars: the first generation, produced since 2007, and the second.

The only difference between the elements on Renault Logan and Renault Logan 2 is the shape of the plug. Until 2011, there was no standard cabin filter; the consumable material was part of the filter cartridge. In the second phase, it began to be cast together with the stove body.

In accordance with design solutions, the element is installed in the front panel behind the partition of the engine compartment. The easiest way to access it is through the passenger seat - in the footwell. If the car is initially equipped with a unit, then an accordion-shaped air cleaner will be located in its place. If not, use a plastic plug with a special recess for self-installation.

Your lung protection

The cabin filter appeared relatively recently, but has become an integral part of a modern car. Don't underestimate this topic. As you know, the air contains a huge amount of harmful substances, and in cities their concentration is ten times higher. Every day, the driver inhales various compounds along with the air:

  • tire material particles;
  • pieces of asbestos from brake pads;
  • viruses, bacteria, spores;
  • oxides of carbon, nitrogen, sulfur;
  • hydrogen fluoride;
  • heavy metal compounds;
  • smoke, soot and soot.

Of course, in small quantities these substances do not pose a serious health hazard. But imagine inhaling them every day for several hours a day. In an hour of sitting in traffic jams, an “overdose” of these compounds can cause oxygen deprivation, dizziness, shortness of breath and sluggish reaction.

These substances are especially dangerous for people with allergies and respiratory diseases. During the flowering period, such drivers have the most difficult time. The solution to these numerous problems is the Renault Logan cabin filter. When the windows are closed, most of the fresh air enters the car through the air ducts, which is where the filter element is located.

Thus, a simple filter will be your shield against small and large particles, purifying the air entering the car. Replacing the filter is necessary if you live in a city, often encounter traffic jams, or regularly travel off-road.

How to determine the need for replacement and how often it should be done

According to the Renault Logan operating instructions (phase 1 and 2), it needs to be updated once every 30 thousand kilometers. However, repair technicians recommend replacing them every time they undergo maintenance. Along with updating the cleaning element, it is also advisable to add engine oil.

According to Renault regulations, inspections are carried out every 15 thousand kilometers. In conditions of increased pollution - dust, dirt on the roads - the frequency can be reduced to 10 thousand kilometers (once every six months). This is especially true for Russia in densely populated cities and on country roads.

Signs that will help determine the need to update the filter:

  1. Unpleasant smell. It occurs due to accumulated waste that has penetrated into the car from the outside.
  2. Dust from air ducts. Instead of clean air, small particles of dust, dirt, and sand penetrate into the cabin when the ventilation is turned on.
  3. Ventilation malfunction. The appearance of this factor is most unpleasant for owners - heating of the car in the summer, malfunction of the stove in the summer in winter. As a result, excessive ventilation load will negatively affect the performance of the resource.
  4. Foggy windows. Significant contamination of the component can cause windows to fog up. Insufficient air flow is not able to blow the glass sufficiently.

When should you change?

An air filter is a part necessary to clean the air entering the engine from foreign pollutants. Over time, the material from which the unit in question is made becomes clogged, after which the part in question can no longer perform its original functions.

Signs of the need to replace the filter element in the Renault Logan system are the following factors:

  • Fuel consumption increases. If the filter material is clogged with small particles coming along with the air flow, a lack of oxygen occurs. For this reason, the flammable substance does not burn completely, but very quickly;
  • Engine power is significantly reduced. When air is sucked in by the engine, a dirty filter creates additional resistance. To overcome this resistance, the engine needs many times more energy than is expended with pure filtration. For this reason, the engine loses power;
  • Due to oxygen deficiency, problems arise when starting the engine. The Renault Logan car starts with difficulty, sometimes it takes the driver more than half an hour to move;
  • Due to uneven combustion of the fuel substance, an excess amount of carbon dioxide is released during the exhaust.

It is difficult for a car enthusiast not to pay attention to these factors. If the engine begins to work intermittently, even the most inexperienced driver will understand that there has been a malfunction in the Renault Logan system. You shouldn’t wait for the above “symptoms” - you can inspect the filter regularly.

Rules for choosing a new filter

The first rule of choice is to focus primarily on the quality of the material, and not its cheapness. The average cost of a filter does not exceed a thousand rubles - updating the consumables is available to everyone. The original cleaning products for Renault Logan of the first and second generations have code 7701062227. Of course, this component is of good quality, but drivers are put off by the relative high cost of the element. Therefore, the originals are not so popular among consumables.

An alternative is to replace them with analogs of cabin filters, which, among other things, are suitable for Logan. Classified according to the following codes:

  • TSP0325178C – coal (manufactured by Delphi);
  • TSP0325178 – dust (manufactured by Delphi);
  • NC2008 9 – dust (manufacturer – AMC).

It is recommended to choose a material with additional impregnation with a carbon composition. Their price is slightly higher, but their protective ability against contamination is higher. Unlike conventional elements, carbon filters also fight unpleasant odors. The listed advantages are justified by the fact that coal is processed with special chemicals. In Russia, Nevsky filters are produced on a coal basis - they are classified as “consumables” of average quality.

The purchased cleaning element must also have a plastic cover onto which it is attached. It is necessary to check its availability before purchasing, since the component will not be installed reliably in the future.

Is it possible to restore

A popular question on car forums is whether cabin filters can be restored and cleaned? Some car owners try to vacuum them or even wash them. These actions are ineffective, since it will not be possible to remove at least 50% of all contaminants. Small particles sit tightly in the pores of the fiber, so even a cleaned filter cannot compare with a completely new model. Remember that the carbon layer cannot be restored, therefore, after the expiration of its service life, models with a carbon layer completely lose their absorbent properties and are equivalent to paper ones. Likewise, blowing will not help, even when using a special installation.

Replacement steps

If the car was originally equipped with an air cleaner and you only need to replace it, follow these steps:

  1. Under the glove compartment, find the recess where the cabin air filter is located. Carefully remove the element by snapping and pulling the plastic handle from below.
  2. Clear empty space of dirt. You can use a car vacuum cleaner or a simple rag. This stage is necessary so that the new resource does not wear out more quickly.
  3. Install a new filter element. Fastening is carried out from top to bottom. To do this, you need to squeeze the front part on both sides and place it in the grooves (there should be a click).

Important! After replacement, it is recommended to check that the elements are in good working order - whether the filter is installed tightly enough, and whether anything from the outside is interfering with its operation. Turn on the blower at maximum power and check if air is passing through the cracks.

There it is, the stub!
What prevented the factory from making it removable? There it is, the stub! What prevented the factory from making it removable?

To work you will need a hacksaw blade, a sharp knife and a mirror. The plug (shown by the arrow in photo 1) is located on the passenger side. Its front and bottom edges are clearly visible, the others are covered by adjacent parts. First, we cut the plastic with a cutter (where it is not visible - using a mirror). The resulting shallow grooves will serve as guides for the knife, which will complete the job. The task is to carefully cut a window measuring 38 by 150 mm and remove the burrs. The result is in photo 2.

If the package does not include a cabin filter

As noted, in most cases of Russian assembly of Renault Logan, instead of a standard filter, only a plastic plug is provided. Behind it there is a hole directly for individual placement of the element. Therefore, installation includes the following steps:

  1. Cut out the plastic plug. Walk along the contour with a knife or scalpel so as not to touch the internal components of the ventilation system. For cutting accuracy, you can additionally use measuring instruments.
  2. After removing the plug, free space will appear. It also needs to be thoroughly cleaned of accumulated dirt, dust, and sediment.
  3. Place the new cabin filter in the grooves in the same way. Install first at the top, then at the bottom until it clicks.

The filter is slightly larger than the resulting window. We squeeze the filter and insert it to the middle, then, pressing the upper right corner of the plastic filter frame, push it in until it stops. Photo 4 shows how the filter is deformed.

How much does a cabin filter cost for Renault Logan?

The price range of the new cleaning element varies from 200 to 1500 rubles. The cost depends on the manufacturer and type of product. On average it will be:

  • original from the manufacturer (dust) - from 700 to 1300 rubles;
  • analogues of dust models - from 200 to 400 rubles;
  • coal - 400 rubles.

Along with the original French components of Renault Logan, the car will also be suitable for Russian-made spare parts - BIG, Nordfili, Nevsky Filter. The elements belong to the cheapest price range - from 150 to 450 rubles. At a similar cost you can purchase Polish versions from Flitron and English ones from Fram (from 290 to 350 rubles). More expensive analogues are produced in Germany: Bosch or Mann air purifiers cost around 700 rubles.
