Signs of a dirty throttle valve
During vehicle operation, factors such as low fuel quality, highly contaminated air filter, and dirt entering the intake system affect the contamination of the throttle valve. Any owner of a VAZ 2114 can identify signs that make it possible to identify a high accumulation of dirt in a given unit:
- Delayed “reaction” of the gas pedal when it is pressed. Dips when accelerating the engine speed are a clear sign of problems in the throttle valve.
- Floating engine speed. Incomplete contact of the damper with the throttle walls leads to air entering the intake that is not accounted for by the mass air flow sensor. This affects the stability of the engine.
- Noticeable engine twitching when driving at low speeds.
- Sudden engine stops.
- Increased fuel consumption. Violation of the air-fuel mixture leads to excessive consumption of gasoline and also negatively affects the dynamics of the car.
It is clear that some of the problems listed may be caused by failure of other components, however, before troubleshooting, it is recommended to clean the throttle.
Untimely cleaning of the throttle valve will lead to a significant decrease in the dynamics of the car, cause problems with starting the car when cold, and will also increase gasoline consumption. The procedure for cleaning this unit from contamination does not cause difficulties even for inexperienced drivers, so we definitely recommend that you read the further step-by-step instructions, which describe in detail how to clean the throttle valve on a VAZ 2114 on your own. First, let's look at the necessary set of tools that will come in handy during the work process.
Let's sum it up
Supporters of replacing the remote control with a different diameter argue | Opponents of replacing the remote control with a different diameter argue |
Replacement increases power and improves engine speed and gas pedal responsiveness | Washing or repairing a standard remote control gives similar effects |
Does not affect gas mileage | Affects gas mileage, as everything is interconnected |
Does not create problems in engine operation | Creates problems because the ECU cannot correctly adjust the ratio of air and gasoline in the mixture |
Problems that arise can be solved with firmware | Problems are solved by flushing |
Clearly, all tangible effects are associated with changing the remote control and are enhanced in combination with other improvements | Tangible effects are achieved by flushing the unit, and the use of other improvements improves the performance of the engine without replacing the remote control |
Here everyone decides for himself, we will not enter into disputes, there are simply different opinions, and we are obliged to warn about the pitfalls and the other side of the coin.
Necessary tool
Because To most effectively clean the throttle body from oil deposits and dirt, the assembly should be completely removed; the following tools will be useful:
- Phillips and flathead screwdrivers;
- A 13mm spanner or a set of ratchets with heads (for easier dismantling);
- Cleaner for carburetors and throttle valves. It is most convenient to use the “cleaner” in the form of a spray, because... they can reach all throttle cavities;
- Compressor with compressed air (or car pump);
- When dismantling the damper, the old gasket may become unusable, so in case it wears out, purchase a spare gasket.
Note that it will be quite difficult to wash the throttle valve on a VAZ 2114 without special chemicals, because Old oily dirt deposits are very difficult to wash off with plain water.
Important! When cleaning the throttle, do not use metal brushes, sandpaper or a file, as You risk damaging the inner surface of the throttle, which will lead to a loose fit of the valve to the body of the unit.
Cleaning the throttle
Later versions of the VAZ 2114 model could have electronic throttle valves installed, so next we will consider instructions for cleaning both types of throttle: mechanical and electronic. Note that the types of throttles discussed below were installed on the 8-valve VAZ 2114 engine.
Cleaning the mechanical throttle is carried out in several steps:
- Unscrew the cap of the expansion tank to relieve pressure in the cooling system;
- Disconnect all sensor plugs from the throttle;
- Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the coolant pipe clamps on the throttle body;
- Remove the throttle cable (if you do not have an electronic gas pedal);
- Using a 13-mm socket (or a spanner), unscrew the two nuts securing the assembly, not forgetting to remove the old gasket;
- Next, proceed to thoroughly clean the assembly, not forgetting to clean all surfaces adjacent to the damper. To remove dirt from hard-to-reach places, you will need compressed air from a compressor or a regular car pump.
Important! It would also be a good idea to clean the pipes and idle air control (attached with two bolts).
Assembly should be done in reverse order. Cleaning the electronic throttle has several features:
- Because The mechanism of the electronic version contains microsensors; when cleaning them, you should not get carried away with chemicals, because there is a risk of damage;
- To thoroughly clean the mechanisms of the electronic version of the unit, remove the cover secured with 4 bolts;
- Next, after cleaning all the elements, lubricate the gears with lithol;
- Also, when reinstalling the electronic version of the unit, it may need to be adapted.
How to clean the throttle valve assembly of a VAZ 2110
If your VAZ 2110 began to lose power and idle began to disappear, then it is time to clean the throttle assembly. Sometimes the question arises as to whether the throttle pipe needs cleaning, since it does not affect the operation of the engine in any way. The throttle is able to provide air flow into the engine, and this allows the fuel to burn. The throttle should work when you press the gas pedal.
Some air enters the engine even when the gas pedal is not pressed, which ensures idle operation. After the throttle valve is installed, it needs to be adjusted, but do not forget to leave a small gap between the valve and the wall of the throttle pipe. This gap is called thermal.
The gap is adjusted using a screw; its thread must be treated with sealant so that it does not rotate spontaneously. The gap is also needed to prevent the damper from biting on the wall of the pipe. If these conditions are violated, the engine will operate intermittently, and this will lead to undesirable breakdowns because the engine requires great effort to maintain speed and this affects when driving in neutral or braking.
The speed drops, the engine stalls or shakes violently. It is also difficult to perform a hot start; if repairs are not made, even a cold engine will be difficult to start. You will have to crank the starter for a long time, the exhaust system will smell of fuel, but the engine will not start soon. In this case, you need to open the throttle slightly and then press the gas.
To clean, you first need to open the top cap on the expansion tank - this allows you to relieve system pressure. The clamps are removed from the air flow sensor and remote control hoses, as well as from the crankcase purge hose. If there is a high oil emission, you will have to change the oil separating mesh.
Next you need to disconnect the contact between the throttle sensor and the regulator. You need to be very careful not to lose the O-ring as it cannot be found separately. You also need a carburetor cleaner, preferably a spray. It is used to remove dirt from the surface.
This is especially necessary for the starter purge channel, since this is where the most dirt accumulates. Assembly is carried out in reverse order.
If the car has an engine with a volume of 1.5 liters, then the remote control gasket will need to be changed. The robot will require a minimum of investment and time, so it is best to do it yourself. Dirt is only one reason for a rough running engine, but cleaning it never hurts because sooner or later it can cause your car to break down. After this, check the operation of the engine at maximum load and in idle mode.
Cleaning the throttle valve on a VAZ-2114: detailed instructions
The throttle valve on the VAZ-2114 must be cleaned if malfunctions are detected. Pollution is characterized by unstable idling (engine speeds sometimes fluctuate within large ranges), increased fuel consumption, and incorrect proportion of the working mixture.
Using a throttle assembly installed directly in front of the intake manifold, the amount of air supplied to the ramp to form the mixture is regulated. He does this using a damper driven by an electric drive or a cable from the accelerator pedal. Similar system designs can be found on new VAZ models - “Tens”, “Priors”, “Nines”, “Grants”.
Troubleshooting
Before taking any action, you need to check the VAZ 2114 throttle valve for possible problems.
In order to accurately diagnose a malfunction or incorrect operation of the throttle, there are characteristic signs inherent to it. These are:
- Instability of engine speed at idle, their unreasonable increase;
- Periodically stalling engine;
- Jerking while moving;
- The discrepancy between the effort when squeezing the gas pedal and the final result (the proper reaction from the engine does not occur, power does not increase, the car does not pick up speed or does it late).
- Noticeable increase in fuel consumption in standard driving mode.
Please note that problems may be caused by:
- The TPS sensor is faulty, resulting in the wrong amount of fuel being supplied to the system.
- Malfunction of the idle speed controller.
Therefore, sometimes it is advisable to check these important elements of the system.
When to clean the damper
Dust, dirt, and soot from the crankcase settle on the body from the inside and outside. The unit becomes contaminated, and along with this, characteristic symptoms of malfunctions appear.
- Jerking when driving at low speed (the accelerator pedal does not move).
- The crankshaft speed is either too high or varies over a wide range.
- Unstable engine starting.
- The engine stalls immediately after starting.
Similar symptoms are observed in case of malfunctions of the crankshaft sensors, throttle position sensors, and idle speed control. Therefore, before starting cleaning, it is advisable to perform diagnostics, at least with a simple scanner, in order to identify possible breakdowns.
Correction of a factory miscalculation
It is quite common for a throttle assembly to come out of the factory with something that cannot even be called a defect, but can still be attributed to design errors. In theory, air should flow into the space behind the throttle, for which a channel of approximately 2.5 mm is specially made.
But the whole problem is that this channel was pressed against the wall of the receiver, thus blocking the possibility of air flow. A slight modification of the throttle assembly can help in this case.
Bored channel for air flow in the throttle
To do this, just take a file and use it to make a small groove in the indicated place. 2 - 3 mm will be enough. But before doing this, it is necessary to remove the throttle.
On a VAZ 2110, the throttle assembly is removed in the following sequence:
- Disconnect the connectors of the sensor that regulates the position of the throttle valve, its drive cable and the XX regulator;
- We partially drain the coolant;
- Next is the removal of the air hose located on the body of the mass air flow sensor. Why do you just need to loosen the clamp;
- We also loosen the clamps: where the throttle pipe is attached to the air hose; where the hose of the 2nd crankcase exhaust circuit is attached to the cylinder head cover pipe. We remove the connected hoses - the air and 2nd crankcase ventilation circuits;
- Having loosened the clamp, remove the hose of the 1st crankcase gas exhaust circuit from the throttle assembly fitting;
- Having loosened the clamps, we remove the hoses supplying and discharging coolant;
- You will need a wrench with a 13mm head, with which you need to unscrew the nuts securing the throttle assembly to the receiver on a VAZ 2110;
- It is now possible to remove the throttle assembly from the studs;
- It remains to remove the sealing gasket and, if your VAZ 2110 has a system that traps gasoline vapors, disconnect the hose for purging the adsorber.
Even if the purpose of removing the throttle was to modify it, still do not forget that for stable operation it also needs periodic cleaning
There is, frankly, nothing complicated in this procedure, but it will help the engine perform better, which is quite important
For cleaning you will need:
- short and long screwdrivers;
- toothbrush (soft, or just old);
- cotton buds;
- cleaning agent;
- rubber or cotton gloves.
For cleaning to give the desired result, it must be carried out very carefully. First, you can go through all the cavities with a toothbrush, at the same time cleaning the idle speed control (it must also be removed). Further, more delicate, cleaning is done with cotton swabs
Pay special attention to the area where the throttle valve is located and the place where the XX regulator fits.
Please note that cleaning the crankcase ventilation duct with conventional means is not possible, but it can be easily done using the foot pump available in each trunk. The diameter of the fitting is similar to the wheel one, you just need to add cleaning agent and pump your foot several times.
If you have problems mentioned at the beginning that started recently, cleaning should fix them. If there were problems from the beginning, do not forget about improvements. Sometimes only replacing the throttle assembly helps.
External cleaning
You can clean the throttle valve on a VAZ-2114 without removing the entire assembly. There is one advantage - you will do all the work very quickly, but you will not be able to clean the inside this way. As a result, the channels in the throttle assembly may remain contaminated, but this will not change the situation - all the symptoms will continue to bother you. External dirt can be easily cleaned. For work, it is best to use a special spray for cleaning carburetors. But keep in mind that it is very aggressive, so it is advisable to work in protective equipment - a respirator and gloves. Do not allow liquid to get on plastic elements - it will corrode them.
The cleaning procedure is as follows:
- Remove the corrugation from the throttle assembly.
- Thoroughly spray all surfaces of the throttle body.
- Wait a little so that the liquid destroys as much dirt as possible.
- Use an old toothbrush to clean all surfaces of the throttle body. For maximum efficiency, manually open the damper slightly.
- Spray again and wipe all surfaces dry with a cloth.
- Reinstall the bellows and start the engine.
The method is simple, but it is unlikely to help get rid of serious stains. Therefore, it is best to completely disassemble the entire assembly and wash it.
Preventative cleaning of the part
In order not to wait until the VAZ 2114 throttle completely stops functioning, it is necessary to carry out surface washing of the part. This cleaning method is very simple. But do not forget that by performing such an operation, you will only clean some parts of the damper from dust. Consequently, the work will not be of much use. However, superficial cleaning will be an excellent start for VAZ drivers who have no experience in servicing the throttle valve.
Surface washing of the part
For preventative cleaning, it is necessary to remove the corrugation from the surface of the part. Next, we spray the internal parts of the damper with a cleaning agent, after which we thoroughly clean its structure with a rag or brush. The same must be done on the reverse side of the throttle valve. After this, install the corrugation and close the hood of the car.
Installing the throttle body corrugation
This cleaning method can be performed every 20–30 thousand km. In this way, you will significantly reduce the clogging of the element and extend its service life.
Removing the throttle assembly for flushing
Cleaning the throttle valve on a VAZ-2114 with E-gas or cable drive is practically no different. To dismantle the throttle assembly, you will need:
- Remove the bellows from the air filter housing.
- Disconnect the pipes that heat the throttle valve.
- Install plugs on the pipes.
- Remove the pipe from the adsorber.
To thoroughly wash the unit, you will need:
- Carburetor cleaning spray, penetrating lubricant such as WD-40 or acetone (solvent 646 or white spirit can be used). Anything that burns will do, even gasoline or diesel fuel.
- Cotton swabs for cleaning, or better yet, an old toothbrush.
- A compressor or at least a pump.
After removing the throttle body, remove the position sensor and idle air control. It is advisable to check their serviceability and replace if necessary.
VAZ 2110 | Removing and installing the throttle valve pipe
Removing and installing the throttle valve pipe
The throttle pipe consists of a front part for ASC+T adjustment and a main pipe. ASC+T, refer to Section Anti-lock braking system.
1. Disconnect plug connections (1) and (2). At the same time, squeeze the wire stopper. 2. Close the ASC+T throttle lever (3) to relieve the cable nipple. Remove the nipple from the segment. 3. Remove the crankcase ventilation hose at the bottom of the suction hose. 4. Open the clamp (4) at the suction hose and remove the hose.
5. Unscrew the screws at points (2) and remove the pipe. Refer to accompanying illustration. 6 Unscrew the screws (1) and remove the spacer.
If damaged, replace seal (3) and lubricate with petroleum jelly or acid-free lubricant before installation.
6. Close the throttle lever to relieve the cable nipple. Remove the nipple (2) from the segment. Remove the cable sheath from the support (1).
6. Remove the throttle valve heating coolant hoses at the nozzle. To do this, open the clamps.
Place a container to collect the leaking liquid. Coolant must be disposed of in a special manner.
6. Unscrew the bolts and remove the pipe with the gasket. The gasket is always replaced with a new one. Refer to accompanying illustration.
1. Secure the pipe with a new gasket. 2. Secure the coolant hoses with clamps. Fill the system with liquid, refer to the Section Replacing Cooling System Fluid. Checking the frost resistance of the cooler. Visual check of the cooling system. 3. Attach the cable and adjust it, refer to the Section Adjusting the gas drive. 4. Attach the spacer and throttle body ASC+T. Don't forget the gasket (1), see illustration. in the “Removal” subsection. Attach the suction hose. 5. Connect the ASC+T cable. The cable in its initial position should have a play of 0.5 - 1.0 mm. Otherwise, adjust the support. 6. Connect the plug connections. Check that they are locked. 7. Read the information from the fault memory block. After troubleshooting, clear the memory.
Idle air control or sensor?
The symptoms described above may not be caused by dirt, but by a faulty idle air control valve. This is an actuator, so it cannot be called a sensor. Many motorists call it an idle speed sensor - this definition is completely incorrect. A sensor is a device that allows you to measure a certain value (number of revolutions, temperature, pressure, etc.).
And the idle air control (IAC) is a stepper electric motor that opens and closes the channel through which air enters the fuel rail when idling. If you open the throttle valve slightly, the IAC is excluded from the entire operation process. Since the device does not measure anything, it cannot be a sensor.
2″ Flushing the throttle “tens”
Often, VAZ 2110 owners confuse a malfunction of the throttle assembly with an ordinary clogged valve. The main symptoms of the latter include:
- when you release the gas pedal, the engine does not immediately switch to low speed;
- the engine is difficult to start in severe frost;
- after starting, the engine vibrates for a few minutes;
- The engine jerks regularly at low crankshaft speeds.
To clean the throttle valve, carefully remove the plastic decorative trim that covers the top of the engine. Next, disconnect the ventilation system hose and drain the oil from the air pipe. After this, unscrew the cap from the expansion tank and disconnect the fuel tank ventilation hose. Having done this work, we get free access to the throttle valve of the “tens”.
The part itself must be cleaned using aerosol products such as Wynn's or WD-40. The procedure for washing the part should be repeated with a short pause of 15 minutes. At the first stage, we treat the part with an aerosol and wipe it with a damp cloth. The second time, an aerosol is also needed, only you need to wipe the part with a dry piece of cloth. During the cleaning process, it is strictly forbidden to use brushes for working with metal, as they severely damage the surface of the throttle assembly.
When cleaning the throttle valve, you should also pay great attention to the crankcase ventilation duct. This part of the assembly is most susceptible to contamination.
To wash the internal channels of the damper itself, unscrew the idle speed sensor. If during the process of dismantling the sensor you find play, the part should be replaced. You also need to pay attention to the condition of the gasket in the throttle assembly. It's best if you replace that too.
Diagnostics and cleaning of IAC
Be sure to check its condition - there should be no dirt on it. Remove the regulator and connect it to the wiring block (the ignition must be on). The rod should retract completely and extend a few millimeters. Visually assess the condition of the device to see if there is any damage to it. Very often, the cause of unstable speed is a weakened or burst spring. In this case, it will need to be replaced. Cleaning the throttle valve on a VAZ-2114, done by yourself, still won’t hurt.
Damper position sensor
Another device that directly affects the operation of the entire injection system. It is he who makes it clear to the electronic control unit at what angle the damper is open. There are two types of sensors:
- Resistive, which are based on a simple potentiometer (variable resistor, like on volume controls).
- Encoders are non-contact.
The first type changes the resistance depending on the position of the slider on the active element. In other words, it is contact, so friction does a lot of “dirty tricks”. The active part wears out, as a rule, at the very beginning of the runner's stroke. And at idle the speed will jump - the resistance changes over large intervals.
At speed these symptoms disappear. Contactless devices work much better. If you are cleaning the throttle valve on a VAZ-2114 1.6 8 valves or 16, pay attention to the type of sensor. If it is resistive, then it may have failed or dust may have gotten inside. It is useless to clean and restore; it is better to replace the device. You can only clean it from the outside - you shouldn’t go inside.
Throttle valve: what is it and where is it located in the VAZ 2114?
In a gasoline engine, the throttle valve (hereinafter referred to as the throttle valve) is an integral part of the fuel system and is an air valve. Its main task is to dose the air supply entering the cylinders to obtain a combustible mixture.
The throttle valve 2114 is connected to the throttle cable and is located upstream of the intake manifold, immediately after the air filter. Whenever the driver increases pressure on the accelerator pedal, the damper opens, and when it decreases, it closes. At the moment of opening, excess pressure disappears in the intake system, and when closing, negative pressure is formed again.
When should you clean your throttle body?
As a preventive measure, it is recommended to periodically clean the remote control (every 65-70 thousand km of vehicle mileage). However, some signs may tell the driver that the damper is dirty and requires cleaning now.
Among these signs are:
- problems with starting the engine (especially in the cold). At the same time, the smell of gasoline may come from the exhaust pipe of the car;
- noticeable reduction in engine power;
- increased fuel consumption;
- instability of idle speed;
- jerks when driving a car at low speed, etc.
The main reasons that lead to throttle valve contamination are:
- Insufficient filtration of incoming air by the air filter - the smallest particles of dirt and dust penetrating through the filter settle on the elements of the emergency protection, affecting their mobility. In this case, the flow area of the chamber for passing the air mixture decreases.
- Oiling.
- Crankcase gases.
The last two factors cause the formation of an oily coating on the elements of the throttle body and, as a result, form a poor response to the accelerator pedal (due to the deterioration of the throttle assembly). Regardless of the reasons that led to the blockage of the remote control, it is not difficult to restore normal operation of the car engine. To do this, you need to remove this unit and clean it.
Throttle assembly (DU): how to remove it correctly?
To ensure that the process does not cause difficulties, it is important to know where exactly the VAZ 2114 throttle assembly is located.
If you don’t know what the remote control looks like, then look for the air filter housing in the engine compartment. The throttle assembly will be located under it.
To clean the device, remove it by sequentially performing the following steps:
- The battery terminals are removed.
- The expansion tank cap is opened (to release excess pressure).
- Remove the plastic cover that covers the upper part of the engine (if present).
- The forced ventilation hose is disconnected. It should be inspected and any remaining oil (if any) removed.
- The connectors from the throttle sensors are disconnected.
- The outlet pipe is removed.
- The cooling pipe is removed.
This procedure must be performed carefully. You should prepare the plugs in advance that will be needed to prevent coolant from leaking. M13 bolts can be used as plugs.
- The remote control drive is removed.
- The gas pedal cable is unscrewed.
- The fastening nuts are removed, and then the remote control itself.
Now you can start cleaning the device.
Cleaning Rules
Before removing and cleaning the throttle valve, you need to buy a special cleaner for it. There are many manufacturers, there is enough choice. Among the inexpensive ones, Abro is effective.
Disassembly:
You need to remove the engine cover (decorative plastic); Reduce the pressure in the cooling system by unscrewing the expansion tank cap; Loosen the clamps and remove the hose from the forced ventilation air pipe; Use a screwdriver to remove the heating hoses for the remote control (it is advisable to plug them for now); Disconnect the cable and unscrew the fastening nuts. Now removal of the throttle assembly is possible; Use a cleaner to wash everything very thoroughly. Most often, it is necessary to use a needle to check whether the forced ventilation channel is coked, and also to clean it; Cleaning is necessary for the idle air regulator, for which it must be removed and inspected. If you find that it is jamming and adjustment is impossible, then it needs replacement; After washing, reassemble everything as it was
Please make sure that the gasket is intact and in good condition, then you can leave it. If this is not the case, then only replacement.
How to properly clean and flush the throttle valve?
Before you clean the throttle valve on a VAZ 2114, you need to purchase a suitable product for this. WD40 is most often used, but MEDIC, FluxOff, CTEPUP, etc. are also suitable (any liquid for flushing carburetors will do).
It is important that the DZ cleaning product is aerosol and includes a special thin tube that allows you to reach the most remote channels.
Cleaning the unit can be either superficial (without removing the unit) or complete.
Each method has its own characteristics, namely:
Surface method - to perform this you will need a cleaning agent, a rag and a soft brush. All accessible elements of the remote control are coated with the product and left in this form for 10-15 minutes. After this, use a brush to remove all dirt and carefully wipe all parts with a soft cloth. Further operation of the car is possible after the DZ has completely dried.
It should be noted that the effectiveness of this method is low, since it is impossible to obtain full access to all elements without removing the assembly.
Complete cleaning - involves removing the unit, cleaning, as well as replacing the seal and O-ring.
After removing the damper, its surface is sprayed several times (depending on the degree of contamination of the part from 3 to 5) with a cleaning agent. The whole process will take about 30-40 minutes. Particular care should be taken to apply the product to all calibrated channels, since it is in them that carbon deposits accumulate the most. All dirt is removed with a soft brush, and then the parts are wiped dry with a rag.
After complete cleaning, the assembly is assembled in the reverse order to that given above (to remove the remote control).
Please note that with any method of cleaning the throttle body, you should not use metal brushes, as they can significantly damage the surfaces.
Step-by-step instruction
Before starting work, purchase a special cleaner for carburetors, and also prepare a set of screwdrivers and a 13mm wrench. If you want to get to the hidden places of the damper, then also take cotton swabs. When disassembling it often turns out that the reservoir o-ring and throttle body gasket are unusable, it is best to replace them at the same time as cleaning, so that later you do not have to waste time disassembling the assembly again. You need to purchase parts based on engine size and number of valves. The gaskets for 1.6 are slightly different than for a motor with other parameters.
- Lift the hood and remove the plastic cover from the engine. If you have not a mechanical, but an electronic damper, which was installed on cars of later years of production, then remove the terminals from the battery and disconnect the electronic damper control chip.
- Disconnect the rubber ventilation hose. This hose is held in place by a clamp, so you will need a screwdriver. If you see dirt in this part of the assembly, wipe the connections and components with a rag.
- To reduce the pressure in the cooling system, remove the liquid supply tubes from the throttle assembly. To do this you will need to loosen the clamps. To prevent dirt from getting into the cooling system, plugs are put on the tubes. There you can do with all the hoses.
- Lastly, remove the fuel tank ventilation hose.
- After this, it is enough to unscrew two bolts and disconnect the accelerator pedal cable to get to the damper.
Examine the part and decide how you will proceed next:
- carry out superficial cleaning without removing the entire assembly;
- completely remove all contaminants, replace the gasket and o-ring.
In the first option, you need to remove a layer of dirt using a rag or cotton pad from the surface of the damper. In this case, do not use specific cleaning agents - wipe the throttle with gasoline or ordinary solvent. When cleaning, manually adjust the flap to remove dirt not only from the outside, but also from the inside.
For complete cleaning, remove the throttle assembly. To do this, it is enough to remove two bolts with a 13mm wrench. In this case, complete cleaning is carried out with special means and consumables are replaced. After you finish work, be sure to blow out the assembly with a stream of compressed air. Thanks to this, you will get rid of excess moisture in the assembly. With complete cleaning, your manipulations take place in a non-confined space, which allows you to put the entire unit in order. This is exactly what is best to do if you are doing routine throttle maintenance. During the complete cleaning, be sure to pay attention to the idle speed sensor - it is best to remove dirt from it using WD40 and cotton swabs.
Features of cleaning electronic remote control
For cars that have an electronic gas pedal (E-gas), the process of removing the throttle valve is much simpler than in conventional models. After all, during the dismantling process there will be no need to disconnect sensors, heating hoses and throttle cables.
Complete cleaning of the electronic throttle is done as follows:
- The VAZ 2114 throttle is removed. To do this, the air filter and corrugation are dismantled, and then the remote control pipes are disconnected. Then the “trick” from the throttle itself is disconnected.
- To unscrew all the bolts you will need a long hex wrench No. 5 (short ones cannot reach the lower far bolt).
- Cleaning. The device has a simple design and can be cleaned using an aerosol carburetor cleaner. Wipe the part dry with a soft cloth.
It is important not to try to forcefully move the flap with your finger or put pressure on it.
- The throttle is installed in its original place.
