Note. Objectively, it is necessary to understand that there are many resistors in a car, but there is only one battery and it produces a certain amount of voltage. Thanks to the resistor, the current is transformed into the required value limits. If the voltage is small, the device will not work. On the contrary, applying excessive voltage will lead to burnout of the device that operates on current.

low basic quality of the resistor itself;

Note. Sometimes some heaters can function even if the resistor has burned out, which is true, at maximum power. You should not allow such work, firstly, the battery itself will fail, and secondly, the leash may catch fire.

The heating stove functions as a portable heater and, thanks to a resistor, is capable of operating in several specified modes. The key feature of the VAZ heating system is the control unit, which consists of two handles. Left handle functions:

creation and correction of temperature conditions in the range from 16 to 28 degrees;
carries out, if necessary, the complete closing or opening of the heating dampers, depending on where the left handle is located: red or blue;
regulates the flow of both cold and hot air.

Right handle functions:

setting the proper temperature;
if you set the zero position of the right handle, the heater will start;
if the handle knob is moved to the first position, the fan torque speed will reach its middle limit;
turning the handle to the second position will mean a decrease in the rotation speed of the stove fan and it will turn from medium to low;
The position of the right handlebar handle in position A means that the heater fan is switched to autonomous operation mode.

Note. If a malfunction of the electric motor is detected and its general cleaning is carried out, however, to no avail, it means that the only way out in this situation is to completely replace the furnace electric motor.

Repair of the electrical heating system of the VAZ interior

– the fan electric motor does not rotate at any position of the rotation speed switch: most likely, the electric motor itself has failed (the brushes have worn out), or there is no voltage at terminals 2 (ignition switch malfunction) and 4 connectors of the mounting block (fuse F4 has blown), it is also worth checking the mass of the engine itself (it should be no more than 3 ohms). The electric motor on the “classic” VAZ 2101 - 2107, as well as on the VAZ 2121, as well as on the VAZ 2121 “NIVA”: installed in the cabin, immediately behind the heating radiator; in VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099, 2113, 2114, 2115 - under the hood, in the compartment behind the engine shield; in VAZ 2110, 2111, 2112 and Priora 2170 - also under the hood, behind the plastic protection, on Kalina - in the cabin, under the dashboard.

– maximum fan speeds, according to the diagram, are without a switch, and if only the minimum and average speeds do not work for you, then the reason must be looked for in the speed switch button or in additional resistors (values in the diagram);

– sometimes, when you turn on the stove, you hear a very loud noise, high tones (squeaking) and there is no proper airflow. This indicates a malfunction of the heater electric motor itself (jamming of the impeller or armature bearings), in this case either replacement or disassembly and lubrication will help (not recommended, as it helps for a short time);

In practice, diagnosing a malfunction of a furnace resistor can be done very quickly and extremely simply:

first you need to start the heater itself;
check the operation of all operating modes;
if it is found that the heater functions fully and properly in the highest third mode, but does not function at all in the first and second modes, then this indicates a failure of the resistor.

The correct algorithm for replacing the furnace resistor:

disconnect the battery and the negative terminal by disconnecting the corresponding wire;
carefully remove the lining;
now it is necessary to remove the elements that protect the car interior from the noise of the heating fan, namely: upholstery and windshield;
after which, it’s time to create the necessary working space; for this you need to temporarily dismantle the vacuum booster;
disconnect the additional resistor from the block with wires;
Use an ohmmeter to measure how well the resistor is functioning, if it is functioning at all.

Note. There is no need to remove the resistor itself to directly test it.

Checking the serviceability of the resistor:

first you need to connect the contacts of the resistor and ohmmeter in series;
if the ohmmeter shows significant deviations from the nominal value, then this indicates a burnt out resistor.

The new resistor itself is assembled easily and strictly in the reverse order.

Note. Only in one position can the block be connected to the resistor.

Old model (until 2003);
New model (since 2003).

Remove the rubber seal from the wind lining;
The fasteners are unscrewed and the frill is removed;
Remove the windshield trim. To do this, unscrew the nuts and screws located along its edges;
The hose is removed from the front window washer. It should be moved to the side, otherwise it will interfere with further work;
Unscrew the wiper fastenings;
The cover (wind deflector) is finally removed;
The metal clips are removed from the stove body. They are examined carefully, if corrosion is visible on them, then they need to be replaced with new ones;
Remove the filter in the cabin, which is attached to the heating radiator with screws; Turn off the fan. To do this, remove the positive connector and unscrew the nut from the negative terminal (on the body);
Unscrew the 3 screws securing the stove cover;
Loosen the hose clamps. We remove the radiator.

The supply hoses are dismantled. Also remove the steam exhaust hose. It is enough to disconnect it from the stove. They are all attached to clamps;
Chips are removed from the fan;
The gear motor is disconnected from the power supply;
Unscrew 3 screws securing the gear motor;
We find the places where the radiator is attached to the body and unscrew the screws;
Unscrew the screws from the filter cover. We extract it;
Unscrew the screws securing the radiator halves;
Now you can remove the heater itself. We first pull out the left part, then the right;
Unclamping the brackets, remove the damper.
