How to replace the VAZ-2114 stove motor with your own hands

A warm interior is the key to good and comfortable travel by car. A non-working stove can not only cause discomfort, but also become an argument against further travel by car at all. It’s one thing when you came to the garage, noticed a non-working heater and refused to move further in the car during the breakdown, but if this breakdown caught you on the road, the nearest service center is far away, and it is not possible to drive a car with a non-working interior heater, because the windshield becomes covered with frost and further movement becomes dangerous. Then the only option left is to either transport the car using a tow truck, or try to fix it yourself.

Examination

To make sure that the motor is the cause of the heating system malfunction, you should carry out a simple but indicative procedure:

  • Start the car;
  • Turn on the first, second and third speeds of the stove alternately;
  • If there are no sounds indicating the start of the fan operation, the motor has failed;
  • If the fan did not turn on at speeds 1 and 2, but started working at speed 3, then the cause of the problem may be a switch or an additional resistor.

Causes of failure

The motor may not work for several reasons. Each of them requires separate consideration. Therefore, we invite you to familiarize yourself with the possible causes of fan failure in our table.

Cause It is important to know
Fuse blown The fuse F7 with a voltage of 30A is responsible for the stove. Replacing it is not difficult, but the main problem lies in the possible occurrence of a short circuit. This fuse is responsible for the lighting in the glove compartment, headlight washers, cigarette lighter, and heated mirrors. If it malfunctions, all specified devices will stop working.
There is no contact in the mounting block This is a common problem in cars and occurs as a result of contact oxidation or loss of connection strength.
Ignition relay sticks The heater turns on only after the car has warmed up. Therefore, it is recommended to check the condition of the ignition relay if the fan is not working. Replace relay if necessary
The heater only turns on at speed 3 Speeds 1 and 2 are activated by an additional resistor, and in mode 3 the current goes directly to the motor. In this situation, you should replace the additional resistor or check its contacts
The heater switch is broken Here we are talking about problems with the electrical target or fuse. To check their condition, you can use a test lamp
Problems in motor design If everything is fine with the switch and current, but the fan does not respond, you should check the level of overheating of the motor, its ground contacts or brushes for sticking

Depending on the problems encountered, you may need to replace the fan. Changing the motor is not difficult, although to do this you must have some skill or at least minimal experience in working with the electrical equipment of your car.

The first step when replacing the heater motor is to disconnect the battery.

Diagnosis of the functionality of the fuse and the reasons for its combustion

Fuses are designed to protect vehicle electrical equipment. If your car's heating system suddenly stops working, the first thing you need to do is check the condition of the protective element that is responsible for the operation of the heater.

The easiest way to check is to open the glove compartment with the ignition on and check whether the backlight works. If the glove compartment light bulb worked before, but now it doesn’t, then the cause of the breakdown is a burnt-out protective element. The fuse that controls the heater controller is responsible for the glove compartment lamp and the cigarette lighter illumination.

The second method is more complicated; to determine the serviceability of a part, you need to take it out and use a tester to check its functionality. If the cause of the breakdown is a blown fuse, do not rush to immediately replace it with a new product. Initially, it is necessary to find the cause of the part burnout. The principle of operation of the product is based on receiving excess voltage in the network. The protective part burns out from high voltage and thereby protects more important vehicle devices from damage.

The cause of high voltage may be a malfunction of the electric motor of the stove or the wiring of the interior heating system, oxidation of contacts, or failure of the fan. Using a tester, you need to check the elements of the circuit of electrical heating devices and eliminate the cause of the burnout.

Instructions for replacing the VAZ 2114 stove motor

First, let's list the consumables and tools we need:

  • a new VAZ 2114 heater motor (and you must buy it complete with a fan and a protective cover);
  • set of open-end wrenches;
  • Phillips screwdriver (medium size).

To change the motor yourself, you need to follow the sequence of actions below:

  1. The hood of the car is opened, and the terminal with the minus sign is disconnected from the battery using a 10-mm open-end wrench.
  2. In the cab of the car, under the dashboard, there is a power cord for the oven motor. It is manually removed from the connector.

    The “positive” power wire for the motor is located in the cabin, under the dashboard

  3. Now in the engine compartment, using an 8 mm open-end wrench, unscrew the 2 nuts holding the fan shroud. There is also a nut with which the car's ground wire is attached to the casing. She also unscrews.

    Next to the casing nuts there is also a “ground” nut, which also unscrews

  4. Next, use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the additional fan mounting bolts.

    Unscrew an additional pair of mounting bolts with a Phillips screwdriver

  5. The air supply grille is released and removed, revealing access to the motor held on a special bracket.

    When all fasteners are unscrewed, the air intake grille is removed manually

  6. To remove the motor, first pull it towards you, then turn it 90 degrees, remove it from the mounting bracket and remove it from its normal place.

    The electric motor of the heater is first pulled towards itself, and then turned at a right angle

  7. Now a new motor is installed in place of the burnt device, after which all components are reassembled.

How to get to the right fuse

Almost the entire electrical circuit of the VAZ 2114 is protected by sharp fusible elements. The most powerful consumers, such as headlights, electric fuel pump, etc., are connected via a relay. Most of the fuses are located in the so-called VAZ 2114 fuse block. However, there are exceptions to this circuit:

  1. There is a fog light relay near the battery in the engine compartment;
  2. The fuses for the injection system are mounted under the instrument panel.

To dismantle VAZ 2114 fuses, no special tools are required, so first of all, look at the VAZ 2114 fuse box, which is located under the hood of the car facing the driver, next to the left pillar. To open the fuse box, which is protected by a plastic cover, you must carefully move a pair of cover latches towards you, lift and remove. After this, you can immediately see the modules responsible for the electrical safety of various vehicle systems.

What is a stove fan

A fan is a functional element that drives air through the heater radiator and into the cabin. The fan, along with the radiator, pipes for refrigerant circulation, liquid regulator and air duct, is part of the heating unit. Its purpose is to drive cold air through a heated radiator, creating heat exchange.

We recommend: Do-it-yourself removal and installation of the exhaust manifold

Node functions

The heater fan is a motor that supplies air. You can imagine its operation in more detail only during the operation of the entire heating system:

  1. As the car engine heats up, liquid enters it, cooling the walls of the cylinder block and taking away heat.
  2. Hot antifreeze enters the heater radiator, and the latter quickly heats up.
  3. A motor (fan) is turned on, supplying flows of cold air, thereby cooling the element.
  4. The interior of the car begins to warm up.

The heating diagram of the VAZ 2113–2115 clearly shows the purpose of the motor

Where is the VAZ 2113-2115 heater motor located?

On VAZ 2113-2115 vehicles, the heater motor is located in the engine compartment. It is covered with a protective casing secured with four screws. The fan itself is also supported by bolts and nuts and is connected to the body of the car.

To gain access to the fan in order to dismantle it, you will have to first work in the interior. In particular, remove the wiring that connects the fan to the vehicle's electrical system.

Main block and its characteristics

The mounting block of the VAZ-2110 and other similar models consists of several dozen fuses. Taking on excess voltage from the network, the fuses melt, thereby breaking the connection with more important devices and protecting them from damage. This ensures fairly reliable protection for the most important devices in the car. This also saves most of the wiring. Once the fuse has melted, it needs to be replaced, but before that, you should fix the problem that caused the short circuit.

Almost all electrical equipment in the car has a protective element. Only a few components in the car work without fuses:

  1. Battery power system.
  2. Engine ignition circuit.
  3. Engine generator starting unit.

Instead of fuses, relays are installed there. All other electronic devices have protective elements that are included in the VAZ-2110 fuse box.

In addition to fuses, the electronic device protection system includes relays that open the circuit. When the temperature rises excessively, the relay plate heats up and bends, breaking the circuit mechanically, without self-damage.

The process of replacing a fan on a VAZ-2114

Heater fan

As already mentioned, the process of replacing the stove fan will take quite a bit of time and even a novice motorist can do it.

The unit itself is located in the engine compartment, behind the engine shield. It is protected from dust and dirt by a plastic casing, which performs its functions well, but not always.

Before you begin the replacement process itself, you need to collect the tools. So, let's look at what you need: a set of keys (where would we be without it), a Phillips-head screwdriver and a new fan as a part.

Exact withdrawal algorithm

Now that the motorist is fully armed, you can consider the step-by-step instructions for replacing the heater fan:

  1. We remove the negative terminal from the battery.
  2. We find the fan power connectors under the dashboard and turn it off.
    Turn off the power to the heater fan

    Fan power cables

  3. We unscrew the two mounting bolts of the protective casing from the engine compartment.

    Unscrew the fastenings of the fan protective casing

  4. We dismantle the nut of the “minus terminal” of the motor power supply.
  5. Unscrew the screws securing the motor.

    The fan mounting screws are marked with an arrow.

  6. We dismantle the fastening of the stove air intake grille and remove it.

    Removing the air intake grille

  7. Remove the motor assembly with the protective casing.
    We take out the motor assembly

    Removing the heater motor on a VAZ-2114 from its seat

  8. We disassemble the casing and remove the motor itself.
  9. Assembly is carried out in reverse order.

Fan selection

Now that the process is clear and discussed, it is necessary to consider which stove fan is suitable for the VAZ-2114. To do this, first turn to the spare parts catalog. In addition to the original spare part, a number of analogues were found that are recommended for installation.

Original spare part (article)

2108-8101078 – original catalog number of the heater motor for the Lada family of cars 2108-21099, as well as 2113-2115. It is manufactured at the AvtoVAZ plant and the average cost is 2000 rubles.

Analogs

In addition to the original stove fan, you can find several analogues on the market that are recommended for installation.

So, let's look at all the possible options:

  • Fenox HM81002 – the cost of this product is 1,500 rubles. Country of origin: Belarus.
  • Master-sport 2108-8101078-PCS-MS – the average cost is also about 1,500 rubles. Country of origin: Germany.

    Fenox analog heater motor

Unfortunately, no other analogues were found, but some motorists are modernizing this unit by reworking it.

The whole assembly is assembled

Or they buy the entire spare part assembled, here are the part numbers:

  • Pekar 2108-8101091 - a very popular option among VAZ-2114 owners. Good reviews, cost about 1500 rubles.

    Pekar 2108-8101091

  • Luzar 2108-8101091.

conclusions

The reasons for the VAZ-2114 heater fan not working are quite simple and even a novice motorist can fix them. Of course, in 50% of cases, all malfunctions are related to the fuse, replacing which will normalize the operation. But, if the reasons are quite complex and the car enthusiast is not able to cope with them on his own, it is necessary to contact a car service center, where everything will be repaired cheaply and efficiently.

Good evening to all car enthusiasts, I read everything, everything is familiar, but the reason for me is that the fuse burns when I sharply stomp on the gas pedal, when I drive in quiet mode, the heater works and does not light up. If anyone has encountered this, please tell me what it can do be a reason?

Set the fuse to 20

Thank you very much for the detailed information! I fixed the stove in a couple of hours. The cause was a faulty contact group. Saved a good amount)))

I have a VAZ 21014 - the heater fan started to shut down, it only turned on if I drove for a while, it was like this for 3 weeks, then it stopped turning on at all. I checked the relay and resistor and fuses, but all this was in vain... then I decided to do this - I lifted the soot, removed the filter and the casing on the heater motor - I exposed the wires going to the fan with small cuts - the current rang... when I turn on the valve, but it doesn’t work... I took out this valve, turned it sideways up and pushed it to the right wing of the car there it’s wider and it came out (I cut off the wires because I had to climb out of the inside to disconnect it into the rubber band and then put it in again; I don’t want to have to suffer with getting in... I disassembled this miracle; there were pre-prepared brushes on the table - but alas, on the armature of the motor there were copper contacts in contact with the brushes completely erased in two places...a dead spot appeared.... I note that the supply of brushes was still normal. The machine is 7 years old, the fan always worked constantly - in the cold in the summer in the warm in the winter... in short, if the motor does not work, it is better to immediately buy a new one ..... I didn’t find the bearing, there is a bronze seal on the side of the brushes, and as I understand it, you can’t get to the other side without breaking it..... a new motor costs 650 rubles. You have to go buy it and push it from under the hood..... I’ll carefully connect the wires clamp and insulate it. Now I understand why these motors are not repaired, but are advised to be replaced with a new one right away.

there is no heater relay on the VAZ 2114, there is an ignition relay, there are a lot of consumers on fuse F7, there is no separate fuse for the heater, it doesn’t work only when the motor or switch burns out, breaks, or the ground burns out

Hello everyone, please advise what to check, while driving I turned on the heater at full power, and then it stopped working, the fuse is intact, the ignition relay is working, has anyone had this? Otherwise, I don’t want to dismantle the floor of the car, and it’s frosty outside - 30

closed the dance with a minus under the steering wheel into the heater wiring and the heater started working

How to replace a heater motor

Due to the fact that the fan is fixed on the heater housing and is accessible from the engine compartment, replacing the VAZ-2114 heater motor is a simple process and does not require disassembling the interior heating system and draining the coolant. Therefore, you can replace the fan yourself, without seeking help from a service station.

To replace the motor, the tools you will need are screwdrivers and a 8-10 wrench. The algorithm for dismantling the heater fan on a VAZ-2114 is as follows: 1. Turn off the power to the on-board network by removing the “positive” terminal from the battery. 2. In the passenger compartment, on the driver’s side, behind the pedal unit, we find the fan power wires – black (“ground”, pressed with a nut to one of the bolts) and blue (“plus”).

3. Unscrew the ground nut, find the blue wire connector and disconnect it. 4. Open the hood. 5. Remove the fan casing with the filter installed in it. To do this, unscrew the 4 fastening screws.

6. Unscrew the fastening screws of the air intake grille installed near the glass. We remove the grille. 7. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the fan housing.

8. Using a “pull” motion, remove the body from the support. 9. Rotate the body 90 degrees. and remove it from the niche.

Further actions depend on what exactly was purchased for replacement - the assembly with the housing or just the electric motor with the impeller. If a fully assembled structure is available, we install a new element using the technology reverse to that described above.

Additional block

If you do not know where the VAZ-2110 fuel pump and generator fuse is located, you will need to find the second panel, to the right of the steering column. The filling of the second VAZ-2110 fuse box differs from the first. Here is the second set of protective devices, which contains:

  1. Injector fuse.
  2. Ignition control element, generator relay.
  3. Heater fan fuse, VAZ heater.
  4. Valve fuses.

Almost all electrical equipment on the engine side is protected by this unit. The generator relay and the VAZ-2110 fuel pump relay are also located here.

Each of the elements can be dismantled with your own hands and replaced with a new one. The block connection diagram (block) will help with this. Most devices are connected in parallel, that is, the right and left devices are connected in the same column of the block.

Example: low beam headlight fuses F2 and F12 are located one below the other, responsible for the headlights on the right and left. This applies to all paired units: dimensions, high beam lamps.

Diagnostics

The primary task is to identify the cause of the breakdown and assess your own capabilities in a specific situation.

Let's start with something simple and move on to something more complex:

  1. We check the fuse (F-7 with a voltage of 30 A), which is responsible not only for the heating system, but also for the operation of: the cigarette lighter, heated mirrors, glove compartment lights, and headlight washers. Therefore, when this fuse blows, all of the above devices refuse to work. If it is working, we move further along the chain.
  2. Turn on the car's ignition and switch the speed control to positions 1, 2, 3 in order. If the fan does not work in any of these positions, we move on.
      If the electric motor does not show signs of life in the first and second positions of the speed switch, but starts working in the third position (the fan is powered at the first and second speeds through a resistor, and at the third speed the current flows directly to the electric motor), the problem lies in the resistor or in the motor itself. switch
  3. If the heater motor turns on after the car engine has warmed up, the problem is a faulty ignition relay. Solved by replacing the relay.
  4. If the heater motor refuses to work in any mode, there remains one malfunction - the heater motor itself.

The process of dismantling the fan motor

We recommend: Silent locks for VAZ 2107: how to install it yourself?

For the final verdict, let’s apply “+” directly to the motor by removing the positive wire terminal from the motor. If the motor does not come to life, the last thing you can try is to try to clean the place under the ground mount on the electric motor. Often this place oxidizes and the contact weakens.

Checking the dampers of the VAZ 2110 heater system

If the controller starts acting up, the dampers themselves may be faulty. It is better to carry out proper inspection in a timely manner to avoid damage. The stove itself has 2 dampers. The upper part is responsible for bringing cool air into the cabin directly from the street, while the lower part heats the flow directly from the heater. If one of the dampers or actuator breaks down, you will experience constant discomfort due to poor heating or excessive heat input.

The breakdowns themselves can be divided into several types. For example, often the damper simply “jams” or “jams.” The damper actuator, also known as a micro-gear motor, may be damaged. Some valves may jam due to rust formed on them. Most often this happens on new samples, since the material of the dampers is metal, while the old ones are plastic with special foam.

If you do not hear the characteristic movement of the damper, remove the deflector in the main panel and simply move the damper by hand. If there is no movement, check the micro-gearbox, it is the drive mechanism of the damper. If the windshield is blown with warm air, and a hot stream enters the legs, it means that the damper itself has poorly blocked the air, which is constantly coming from outside the cabin.

Replacement

Replacing a failed unit is not difficult. Follow certain rules and sequence of your actions to achieve the desired result.

  1. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.
  2. Lift the hood and in the engine compartment, remove all the mounting bolts that hold the plastic trim.
  3. For now, the overlay can be moved to the side so that it does not interfere with work.
  4. Remove the rubber seal, which also has its place in the engine compartment.
  5. Remove the protective cover from your heater motor. So you have reached the desired object and can begin replacing.
  6. On the sides of the motor are two bolts that hold your fan in place.
  7. Now go into the interior and remove the driver's side panel. There is a positive plug located there, which must be disconnected.
  8. Next, look for the negative wire. It is held on by one nut, which must be unscrewed.
  9. The disconnected wires are inserted into the hole in the body of your car, passing through the rubber seal.
  10. Remove the damaged motor. To do this, you need to turn it and pull it out through the right side.

Dismantling the fan motor

Follow the reassembly sequence strictly to avoid mistakes that could lead to even more serious problems.

As you can see, removing the device is not difficult. Having studied the condition of the fan motor, we can draw a conclusion regarding the need to replace it. Sometimes car owners get by with simply repairing brushes or replacing fuses.

Price issue

We advise you to choose a high-quality motor for replacement so that later there are no problems with its performance.

The price depends on whether you buy the motor complete with housing or separately.

The motor itself will cost you about 500 rubles, and for the assembled device you will have to pay about 1000 rubles. Which option is preferable for you, decide for yourself.

How are the blocks separated in the machine?

The main type of block is placed in the most convenient place for the driver. In this version of the VAZ it is located on the left side of the body directly at the steering wheel. Easy access to the unit is provided using a built-in button located next to the car's headlight control.

2 backup units with relays are located separately in the right and central parts of the console just behind the dashboard. One of the fuses shown below in the diagram will be located at a distance from the rest of the list - it can be found in a special compartment behind the main fuse block, next to the mounting block. To timely repair electrical equipment on a VAZ-2110, you need to learn how to quickly determine the location of a blown fuse, and also know which elements of the car its failure will affect.

Advice: very often one burnt valve can lead to replacing the vacuum booster on a VAZ-2110. That is why it is important to check not only the general condition of the fuse, but also the parts that interact with it, for example, the injector.

Repair of VAZ 2113—2115 stove fan

Why does the heater motor stop working? There are reasons for this, and there are several of them. However, most often the cause of malfunction is clogging. Dust gets everywhere, including inside the mechanism.

Cleaning the stove fan in some cases helps to improve the operation of the mechanism

Causes and signs of heater motor failure

With the onset of cold weather, correct and uninterrupted operation of the heater becomes more important. But according to the law of meanness, it is precisely at this time that frequent problems are observed that have their own reasons:

  1. The safety element, designed to monitor not only the heater along with its components, but also the glove compartment lighting, the optics washer motor, etc., fails. This 30-amp fuse is located in a special block and is marked with the number F7. As a rule, the reason for its burnout is a short circuit. A burnt out element simply needs to be replaced.

    Fuse F7 in the VAZ 2113 mounting block

  2. The ignition relay is located under the instrument panel. It can also cause problems with the stove motor, as it is connected to the electrical circuit. You can make sure that it is a relay by the following sign: the fan does not work only when the engine is warm (more details about the relay are written at the end).
  3. The stove radiator deteriorates and scale forms in it over time. The element can be removed and washed with “Mole” or other liquids.

    The radiator of the VAZ 2115 stove deteriorates due to scale formation

  4. Air enters the system, forming plugs. This negatively affects the overall operation of the stove, including the motor. Proper airing of the entire system will help.
  5. The additional resistor is faulty. If this part is the “culprit”, electricity will begin to flow to the motor only in the third position of the heater operation. Accordingly, in the first and second modes the fan will not turn on, since the current in this case flows through the resistor. The problem is solved by replacing the resistor.

    If there is a malfunction, the additional heater resistor must be replaced

  6. The contacts of the wiring terminals connecting the fan to the car's electrical system have become loose. You need to re-tighten them, and if they have oxidized, clean them.

How to remove the fan

The VAZ 2113-2115 heater motor is removed as follows:

  1. First remove the side cover of the dashboard from the pedal side.

    The side casing cover can be removed to facilitate the process of removing the fan.

  2. Then the electrical contact is disconnected from under the dashboard - a transition device between the car's electrical system and the motor.

    The positive wire plug connects the fan to the car's electrical system.

  3. The “ground” located on the bolt under the head “10” is also unscrewed.

    The negative wire of the fan is connected to the mounting bolt on the body

After this, you need to transfer the work to the engine compartment:

  1. Unscrew the protective cover hiding the motor.
  2. Then remove the screws holding it in place.

    The fan clamps are simply unscrewed with a screwdriver

  3. Wires disconnected inside the car should be pulled up.
  4. After this, you need to remove the top cover of the motor to make it easier to remove.

    The top fan cover can be removed in place to make motor removal easier.

  5. Pull by hand to remove the fan.

How is the replacement carried out?

Before direct replacement, it is recommended to check the motor, because it may not work:

  1. Place the fan on a flat surface.
  2. Connect the wires to the battery terminals.

A faulty element will not rotate at all or will do so intermittently, weakly and noisily. Before work, you must also remember to thoroughly clean all debris from the niche where the new motor will be installed. The replacement procedure does not take more than 40 minutes for an experienced motorist. All you need is a screwdriver, wrenches and a new fan. The activity is performed in reverse to the withdrawal process. The wiring terminals must be securely secured so that they do not loosen while the machine is moving.

It is recommended to select a completely new and high-quality motor (original production) as a replacement in order to protect yourself from unnecessary costs. A good fan will last for a long time.

Where is the VAZ 2113-2115 heater relay located?

Not all motorists who decide to carry out repairs and replacements themselves can quickly find a faulty stove. The relay is responsible for sufficient heating of the interior, so a motor malfunction may be associated with it.

Often this element simply wears out. This is not a repairable part, it only requires replacement. Therefore, it is important to know where the relay is located in order to replace it yourself in a timely manner. The element is located on the center console under the instrument panel, often in the mounting block, next to the fuse.

The VAZ 2113-2115 heater relay is located near the fuses

The heater motor is an important and indispensable element of the car heating system. Periodic maintenance and timely replacement of faulty parts will always help keep the car interior warm.

Replacing the stove fan on a VAZ-2114 is quite easy and simple. As practice shows, most motorists do just that, saving their time and money. But, if the process seems very difficult, then it is recommended to contact the service, where they will do everything quickly and efficiently.

  • Fuse problems

A failed stove fuse is one of the most common, and at the same time easy to repair faults.

The fourteenth is equipped with a heater fuse of type F7, with a current strength of 30 A. It is worth noting that a failed heater fuse will also cause the cigarette lighter, glove compartment lighting, electric water supply pump to clean the headlights, and rear window heating to fail, since all these systems operate from one fuse.

Situations often occur when installed fuses blow out one after another - the reason for this may be a short circuit, to identify the source of which you will have to go through the entire safety circuit

  • Lack of contact inside the mounting block

Also a fairly common problem, the cause of which is the oxidation of wires during operation. The solution is quite simple; you need to sort out the wiring in the block in which they are fastened in front of the mounting block, and, if necessary, replace the contact group.

  • Problems with the ignition relay

A stuck ignition relay can also be the reason why the heater fan on a VAZ 2114 does not work. This is revealed quite simply - if the fan starts working only when the car’s engine has completely warmed up, then the problem is due to the ignition relay. To eliminate them, you will need to completely replace the relay.

  • The stove does not work in speed modes 1 and 2

If the fan turns on only at maximum speed (there are 3 in total), then the heater resistor needs to be changed. The design features of the heating system are such that in speed modes 1 and 2 the fan is powered through an additional resistor, and in mode 3 - directly from the battery.

  • Fan motor problems

If the VAZ 2114 cooling fan does not work, but all of the above problems have been eliminated, then one reason remains - a failed VAZ 2114 heater motor. It can either burn out or have poor contact with the power supply due to loose mass, and the fan brushes also often get stuck.

You will need to replace the heater motor with a new one, because if it starts to “stand out”, then this will happen repeatedly in the future.

The purpose of each of the fuses on the car

If you lift the removed cover, inside you will see a diagram of the location of the relays and fuses in the mounting block (fuse block). All these elements are numbered on it and have designations from F1 to F20. Of course, everyone is responsible for the operation of various consumers in the vehicle’s electrical network:

  • F1 - rear fog lamp and warning lamp for turning on the latter (10 A);
  • F2 - turn signal switch relay, VAZ 2114 alarm system, turn signals (10 A);
  • F3 - front and central lighting of the interior, trunk, on-board computer and brake lamps (7.5 A);
  • F4 - heated rear window (20 A);
  • F5 - sound signal, cooling fan (20 A);
  • F6 - electric windows (30 A);
  • F7 - electric motor of the heater, front window, washing machine, glove box lamp, cigarette lighter (30 A);
  • F8, F9 - fog lights, right and left, respectively (7.5 A);
  • F10, F11 - left side indicator, as well as right side indicator, indicator for turning on the dimensions, room lighting, as well as a backlight lamp for instruments, ashtrays (7.5 A);
  • F12, F13 - right and left low beam, respectively (7.5 A);
  • F14, F15 - left and right high beam, respectively (7.5 A);
  • F16 - turn signals, dashboard warning lights - parking brake, low battery, etc., as well as on-board computer (15 A);
  • F17-20 - reserve 7.5, 10, 30 and 20 A, respectively.

The VAZ 2114 fuse diagram also contains backup fuses for 7.5, 10, 20 and 30 A, located in the lower part of the VAZ 2114 fuse block. Having pulled out the allegedly blown one, you should visually inspect it. If it is clear that the integrity of the wire is broken, then we can definitely say that the reason for the inoperability of the vehicle equipment lies precisely in the failure of the fuses. It is possible to replace a failed one with a reserve of the same power according to the data presented in the diagram on the back of the plastic cover of the mounting block.

Connection diagram, resistors and fan relays

In principle, changing a fan is not difficult, but you will have to remember your service in the army and the vocabulary of the duty officer. We have placed the technical characteristics of the fan and its connection diagram on the page, if this will somehow help with dismantling. Just in case, if anyone cannot find the original fan, the engine must develop at least 4200 rpm with a current consumption of no more than 14 amperes.

Whistling and howling can be different at different engine operating modes. This is because the connection diagram assumes the presence of a resistor with a resistance of 0.23 and 0.65 Ohms. One limits the current for low speed, and the other is used to obtain the second speed. But this is a theory.

Disposal of an old electric heater motor most often occurs due to wear of the commutator (after 100,000 km) or short circuit of the armature winding, which will be indicated by a “silent” or difficult-to-rotate shaft, as well as a blown fuse F7.

Action plan in case of heating system breakdown

Follow this sequence of actions, and you will determine the causes of the breakdown and repair the system:

  1. Check if the heater fan is working. Turn it on and listen to the sounds. If the device is working properly, you will hear a specific noise. If the fan has been sorted out and everything is in order, the cause of the breakdown may lie in the wiring. Pay attention to the dashboard, the backlight should be well lit. The light from each headlight should be uniform, the wipers should move sharply and quickly.
  2. Check the airflow on both sides and how well the air is blowing from the air ducts. If it blows cold, then the cause is the air duct.
  3. The problem may be in the heater core. The heating of the VAZ-2109 does not work due to the lack of coolant flow through the radiator. If it is outdated, then a sediment is produced in the car's engine system, which fills the radiator tubes, and the heater stops functioning. The heater core should be thoroughly cleaned.
  4. The car does not heat the air sufficiently when the coolant level in the system is low. If the amount of washer is insufficient, you should add antifreeze to the required level. Sometimes it happens that an air lock appears in the engine cooling system. You need to unscrew one of the carburetor heating pipes (if you do not have an injector).
  5. Sometimes the cause of the breakdown can be a breakdown of the fan motor. It often burns out or the brushes are simply stuck on it.
