Replacing the thermostat on Nexia 8 valve and 16 valve engines

Replacing a thermostat on a Nexia is not a troublesome task; you can do the work yourself if you have some tools and free time. The thermostat usually lasts quite a long time, and many car enthusiasts do not even know where it is located. The Nexia has two types of thermostats for DOHC engines and SOHC thermostats in different designs. The thermostat on a car is usually replaced when it fails.

  1. Checking the Thermostat
  2. Replacing the thermostat on Nexia 16 cl DOHC
  3. Replacing the thermostat on Nexia 8 cl SOHC

Checking the thermostat on Nexia

If you are in doubt whether the thermostat is working or not, you can easily check its functionality. On any Nexia, no matter n100 or n150, the answer to the question of how to check the thermostat will be the same.

Start the engine, monitor the antifreeze level and look at the instrument readings. When the engine temperature is above 85 or 87 degrees on the dashboard, then touch the upper thick hose going from the engine to the radiator. It must be hot. This means that the thermostat is working properly.

location of the thermostat on Nexia

If immediately after starting the temperature has not yet risen to 80 degrees, and this hose and radiator are warm, this means that the thermostat is stuck in one position, it is always open. Antifreeze always circulates in a large circle, which means that it will be difficult to heat the car to operating temperature, and in winter it is almost impossible.

So, if you have a faulty thermostat, then read the replacement instructions to the end.

About the thermostat

The thermostat is characterized by the presence of a solid heat-sensitive filler. The main functions of the thermostat are: reducing the engine warm-up time and maintaining its operating temperature within normal limits.

In the engine cooling system, for Daewoo Nexia cars, the thermostat is located on the front wall of the cylinder block, in a specially designated slot, with the housing tightly pressed to it from above.

When the coolant temperature heats up to 87 degrees, the thermostat remains in the closed position, and the liquid circulates in a small circle, excluding entering the radiator, this contributes to accelerated warming up of the engine. When the liquid reaches a temperature of 87 degrees or higher, the thermostat valve opens slightly, and its full opening occurs when the cooling liquid temperature reaches 102 degrees. This ensures fluid circulation in a large circle, the chain of which includes a cooling radiator. Complete closure of the valve occurs at a temperature of 85 degrees.

If you notice that your car is taking a long time to warm up, the thermostat may be to blame. This is easy to check. Start the engine when cold and touch the rubber hose coming from the thermostat with your hand.

The thermostat most often jams when its position is open, so the coolant is directed directly from the engine jacket to the radiator. If everything happens as described, then you will quickly feel the heating of the rubber pipe that you touch with your hand; when the pipe heats up, the thermostat must be replaced.

Replacing the thermostat on Nexia 16 cl DOHC

To replace the thermostat on 16 valve DOHC engines, namely F16D3 and A15MF. To understand what kind of engine you have, it is enough to know the year of manufacture and the number of valves.

F16D3 – 16kl., Nexia engine since 2008

A15MF – 16kl., Nexia engine until 2008

The design of the thermostat on these engines is not collapsible, so it is necessary to remove it completely.

The thermostat is removed, remove the old o-ring and when installing a new thermostat, it is advisable to install a new o-ring. (gasket)

Removal and replacement of the thermostat on the 16 cl engine is completed. The new thermostat is installed in the reverse order.

Remote thermostat for 8 valve Nexia engine A15SMS — logbook Daewoo Nexia on DRIVE2

Having screwed the inner protective casing carefully so as not to knock down the belt, we install the pulley in its place. There are two guides there and you need to hit them with a pulley.

But if this cannot be done, then you can tighten the bolt that secures the pulley and, gradually pressing it, force the pulley into place. The rest of the assembly is carried out in reverse order.

At this point, the replacement of the thermostat is considered completed. We take out the body.

Let's let the car run. After the air has been bled out, you can add liquid again. It turned out that it was not a package, but an iron corner from the roof, the kind they have on wooden houses.

The bent protection pressed against the muffler and rattled. The removed thermostat looked in quite good condition, the sealing ring was no longer rubber, rather carbon, it crumbled and got dirty like coal, be sure to replace the thermostat with the sealing ring and the cover, placing them on the sealant as expected.

Replacing the thermostat on Nexia 8 cl SOHC

Replacing the thermostat on a Nexia with an 8-valve SOHC engine differs from engines with a 16-valve engine, so there are detailed instructions on this.

SOHC 8 cl engines include the G15MF until 2008 (N100 body) and the A155MS engine after 2008 inclusive (N150 restyling body).

To replace the thermostat, you need the same tools - pliers, a socket screwdriver, 13mm socket wrenches and a container for draining the antifreeze.

The thermostat has been removed from the engine. Now you can install the new one in reverse order.

Replacing the Daewoo Nexia 1.5 thermostat on the G15MF engine

The problem with servicing the G15MF motor, in particular the thermostat housing and the thermostat itself, is that you can only get to them if you remove the timing belt cover. And it, of course, cannot be removed without dismantling the camshaft drive gear.

To remove the thermostat housing according to the rules, you need to disassemble half of the engine. We won't do this.

Here you need to choose one of the options - either change the Daewoo Nexia thermostat by completely removing the timing belt and casing, or by partially removing the casing. The first option is suitable for those whose timing belt is on its last legs and needs to be changed in any case. Well, or the pump needs to be replaced along with the rollers. There is a lot of work, it can take three or four hours.

The second option is much more time efficient, but it requires some experience or at least adherence to this technology:

  1. Cool the engine, unscrew the expansion tank cap, and place a container under the radiator to drain the antifreeze. Yes, it needs to be drained anyway.

  2. We unscrew the drain valve and wait until all the antifreeze drains into the container.
  3. We remove the air filter housing along with the pipe, disconnect all the hoses leading to it.

  4. Using a 10 mm socket, unscrew the bolts securing the timing belt cover cover.

  5. To fix the timing belt relative to the camshaft drive gear (pulley), we fix the belt using plastic ties or regular wire. We do this reliably so that the valve timing marks do not go astray.

  6. We unscrew the camshaft drive pulley with a 17 mm socket and fix it on the front frame in any convenient place so that it does not interfere, but the belt is slightly tensioned.

  7. We unscrew the two casing mounting bolts with a 10 mm socket, making sure that none of them fall; getting them out is a whole story.

  8. Carefully, so as not to break the casing, bend it towards you. Even if a crack appears, it can be sealed from the inside later.

  9. Using a 12 mm spanner, unscrew the two bolts securing the thermostat housing. We remove it and inspect its condition. Often, cavities and chips appear on the pipe; in these cases, it is better to change the housing.

  10. We take out the old thermostat and carefully wipe the seating surfaces. We clean them of any remnants of the old gasket or sealant. We check the shrinkage of the seal on the new thermostat and install it in place.

Interesting on the topic: Servicing Skoda Octavia A5: replacement and selection of front pads

We carry out the assembly in the reverse order. It may be difficult to install the camshaft pulley. But if you carefully put the bolt in place and gradually tighten it, everything will install perfectly.

Before installing the timing belt cover and air filter, it is advisable to test run the engine. We make sure that the antifreeze does not leak; after warming up to operating temperature, the liquid begins to flow into the main radiator.

Daewoo Nexia BRIGHTON GOLD › Logbook › REPLACING THERMOSTAT TO 92 DEGREES

1). So, first, let's understand a little about the history of Nexia production. It's no secret that the Nexia is a restyled Opel Kadett from the mid-eighties. In 1986, production moved to Korea under the name Daewoo-Lemans. It was then that the station wagon remained in “history”, but the automatic transmission was preserved. What names has Nexia had in its history, what brands has it not been sold under... In 1994, the car began to be called Daewoo-Nexia, and two years later the car found a home at the Uz-Daewoo Auto joint venture. Nexia was also assembled in Rostov from Korean kits, but production was soon curtailed. Now on our market there are only Uzbeks left, which underwent restyling in 2008. I am the owner of such a car. By the way, the Cadets had a more expanded list of options, additional equipment and, according to reviews, had more comfortable seats.

2). On the Korean Nexia, the standard thermostat was set at 92 degrees (Start of opening). In Uzbekistan, the thermostat was changed to 87 for the sake of the environment, as well as for better cooling of the car in a hot climate.

3). In view of the temperature drop by “th...ts” degrees below zero, it was decided to change the thermostat, which would have a positive effect on increasing the temperature of the cabin. So now it is finally clear that thermostat housings are different. Option #1

4).In the case of the first option, when replacing the thermostat, it is best to buy a collapsible housing. So we buy 1. a “Vernet” thermostat (code 4898.92/J) with a rubber seal (it is on 92.) 2. a collapsible thermostat housing from Nexia 1.6, consisting of a thermostat cover (96130992) and... 3. adapter (96180615) 4 .And also an o-ring (90096383) 5. If these parts are not available separately or you will have to wait a long time when ordering them, you can buy the housing assembly (96407677). That is, it will have positions 2+3+4+ inside there will be a thermostat, though again at 87. Ultimately, after replacement it should turn out something like this:

Photo(s) of the Mitsubishi Galant car interior

In addition, an all-wheel drive charged modification Galant VR4 was produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market. Galant for the American market VR-4 Body and interior. The instrument cluster is simple, but informative. Another advantage of the prestigious versions is a convenient microclimate control unit with a liquid crystal screen. The front seat cushion is adjusted to the height of the Mitsubishi Galant, but the backrest tilt is adjustable in steps.

It's a bit cramped for three people in the back, which is a shame for a car of this class. The station wagon is not as elegant in appearance as the sedan, but it is not without charm.

Free space - l. But the developed wheel niches make it difficult to load large cargo.

The trunk of the sedan is also quite capacious, but narrow and long. And the opening is small due to the wide rear lights. The interior of the Galanta is European Optitronic instrument panel The interior of the “American” the trunk of the station wagon from itself: In addition to the body shapes themselves, these two cars differ in the rear lights - the hatch has the full width of the stern, but the sedan has ordinary, separate lights.

Generations of Mitsubishi Galant

With a body length in mm, the kb of this Japanese car is equal to mm, the ground clearance of the Mitsubishi Galant is equal to mm, and the curb weight of the Mitsubishi Galant car, a two-shaft car, is kg. And it is very possible that you will come across an unpainted car with a good paint coating. Now to the interior: If you compare the interior of the Galant with the Ten, it is very spacious. Large speedometer and tachometer dials make data easy to read.

From the factory, pictures of Mitsubishi Galant cars were equipped with air conditioning and an electric sunroof. Thanks to its clever layout, this Galant sedan had a large liter trunk. Gearboxes were also offered to choose from: the Galant held the track perfectly. This became possible not only thanks to the refined steering system, but also to the thoughtful design of the Mitsubishi Galant multi-link suspension. Moreover, on some front-wheel drive modifications, the rear suspension had steering, and on vehicles with all-wheel drive it was equipped with an automatic ride height stabilization device.

The ninth generation of the latest generation Galant was presented at the New York Auto Show. The model was noticeably different from its predecessor.

Self-replacement of antifreeze on Daewoo Nexia

page » Coolant » Self-replacement of antifreeze on Daewoo Nexia

Every car has a cooling system that protects the vehicle engine from overheating. The main component in it is the refrigerant. It needs to be changed periodically to ensure efficient engine cooling. How to replace Daewoo Nexia antifreeze and how often it needs to be done, we will tell you in this article.

Before replacing, many car owners are interested in the question of what refrigerant is filled in at the factory. In automobile production, ethylene glycol-based coolant is used. Therefore, many car enthusiasts, having decided to change the antifreeze in the Daewoo Nexia n150 8 valves or in another body, choose the coolant poured by the manufacturers.

Ethylene glycol-based refrigerant suitable for Nexia

How often should the coolant be changed?

The cooling system of an 8- or 16-valve Daewoo Nexia must be periodically filled with new refrigerant. Replacement intervals may vary slightly depending on the vehicle modification. You can read more about intervals in the service manual. Typically, the instructions indicate that replacement should be made after a mileage of 45 thousand kilometers or every three years.

Keep in mind that the service life of antifreeze directly depends on its characteristics. And also on the conditions of use, in particular, on the condition of the cooling system and the region in which the car is operated.

Signs of the need for urgent replacement

The following symptoms may indicate the need for an urgent change of antifreeze in the Daewoo Nexia:

How to check the level correctly?

Checking the refrigerant level is carried out visually by diagnosing the amount of liquid in the expansion tank. Open the hood and take a look at the reservoir. Ideally, the antifreeze level in the Daewoo Nexia should be between the MIN and MAX marks. Diagnostics are performed only on a cold engine. On a hot power unit, the coolant level in the tank will be higher.

Required amount

Before replacing, you need to know how many liters are poured into the cooling system of the Nexia 150 2012 or another year of manufacture. The volume depends on the engine modification.

EngineCooling system volume
8 valves6.2 liters
16 valves6.7 liters

Please note that it will not be possible to completely drain the substance from the cooling system. There will be about one liter of liquid left in it. It can be removed by blowing with compressed air.

Now let's dwell on the issue of changing antifreeze or antifreeze. You can replace it with the help of specialists, but we will consider an independent process.

Preparation

To complete the task you will need:

Stages of work

To replace antifreeze, you need to complete several steps:

How to drain?

First, drain the coolant from the engine block:

Replacing the Daewoo Nexia thermostat

Take a 10mm socket and unscrew the bolts to secure the inner part of the timing case. Be very careful, if the bolts fall inside the casing, it will be too difficult to get them out. Gently lift the casing away from the head with both hands, do not apply too much force, otherwise it may break. Take a wire, tie it to the hole in the casing and pull it away from the thermostat, fix it in this position by tying the wire to something.

Before replacing the Daewoo Nexia 8 valve thermostat, bolts securing the thermostat housing. Take a 12-mm open-end or socket wrench and unscrew it. Remove the thermostat housing, and then the thermostat itself. When removing the thermostat, coolant will leak, this is about one liter, prepare a container in advance.

Take the new thermostat, install it in the desired position, be sure to use the rubber gasket included with the thermostat when installing. Further assembly must be carried out in the reverse order of disassembly.

Unscrew the screws that secure the thermostat cover and remove. Remember the location of the Daewoo Nexia 8 valve thermostat replacement in the housing hole and carefully pull it out. It was decided to move the thermostat outside, according to the 16 kl Nexia principle. A lot of craftsmen modernize Lanos this way.

I bought a collapsible metal thermostat housing from a 16 valve Nexia, if I'm not mistaken, it also fits from an Aveo 1.4.

After this, we remove the air filter of the Daewoo Nexia and all its pipes. This is done to make it easier for us to access the thermostat. After this, unscrew the timing belt protective cover.

Now, using a wire, we fix the timing belt. Disconnect the thermostat heating element wiring.

After that, unscrew the bolt securing the pulley and remove it along with the belt. Now we take it to the side and use the same wire to fix it so that it does not fall.

Unscrew the throttle valve heating pipe. After this, unscrew the timing belt protective cover, which is installed on its inner side.

How to drain and replace antifreeze from Daewoo Nexia 8 valves

The condition of the coolant directly affects both the process of engine operation and the condition of the cooling system elements - the pump, the water jacket of the cylinder block, the heater radiators and the main radiator, and the thermostat. Therefore, it is highly not recommended to neglect replacing antifreeze. Today we will understand the process of replacing coolant for different Daewoo Nexia engines and select the optimal antifreeze for replacement.

How much antifreeze is in the engine of a Daewoo Nexia

The volume of the cooling system in the eight-valve Nexia N-100 engines is 6.2 liters.

Naturally, when replacing it is rarely possible to drain the antifreeze completely. In any case, about a liter of liquid will remain in the system. Therefore, 5-5.5 liters will be enough for replacement. The total volume of antifreeze in the cooling system Nexia N-150 16 valves is 6.7 l .

Important little things

  • If you have problems installing the camshaft pulley, tighten the bolt and use it to tighten the pulley, it will fall into place on its own.
  • After coolant has been added to the system, you need to knead the rubber hoses with your hands to remove air pockets from them.
  • A test run of the engine can be carried out before the air filter housing with pipes and the upper protective casing for the timing belt are installed in place. This will make it possible to check the system and timely detect a coolant leak. Don’t worry, when you start the engine, the light on the dashboard will come on, indicating a “Check Engine” error; when you have everything fully assembled, it will go out.
  • After connecting the parts of the thermostat housing, do not forget to tighten the screws with a force of 18 N•m.
  • Don't forget to replace the rubber O-ring on the thermostat.
  • Fill the system with coolant, following the instructions in the service book.
  • Start the car before driving, warm it up and make sure the system is sealed.

Nexia cooling system: diagram, characteristics, faults

The cooling system of the Daewoo Nexia is typical for representatives of power units - liquid, closed type.

Description of the cooling system

Nexia engines are equipped with a standard liquid cooling system. It includes a number of parts - radiator, electric fan, thermostat, water pump, pipes, heater and expansion tank.

This system is necessary to maintain the operating temperature of the power unit. The fluid circulates in two circles - small and large. Let's consider the coolant circulation scheme: cylinder head water jacket - pipes - radiator - water pump - thermostat. A heater can be added to this system.

Cooling system diagram

Let's look at what the Daewoo Nexia cooling system diagram looks like:

Elements of the DAEWOO NEXIA engine cooling system: 1-electric fan; 2-electric fan casing; 3.36-nuts; 4,7,9,10,12,13,15,17,18,20,27,29,32, 34,38 40,41,43,45,47-clamps;5,30,48,49,53 -bolts; 6-supply hose for heating the throttle assembly; 8-tee; 11-heater supply hose; 14-way hose; 16-outlet heater hose (the dotted line shows the shape of the hose when installing an automatic transmission); 19-outlet hose for heating the throttle assembly; 21-sensor for turning on the electric fan; 22-o-ring sensor; 23-thermostat housing; 24-o-ring thermostat cover; 25-thermostat; 26-water pump pipe; 28-outlet water pump hose; 31-connecting pipe; 33-fluid reservoir hose; 35 expansion tank; 37-expansion tank plug; 39-steam removal hose of the expansion tank; 42-radiator inlet hose; 44-radiator; 46-radiator outlet hose; 50-radiator mounting bracket; 51-upper radiator mounting pad; 52-electric air conditioning fan; 54-lower radiator mounting pad.

Elements and their role

It is worth considering all the elements in more detail, as well as indicating faults and troubleshooting methods that may arise. Many power unit owners are familiar with the elements of the engine cooling system. But, novice motorists do not know what this unit consists of and what the purpose of the elements is, for which they are often punished by fate.

Thermostat

The thermostat is an element of the car’s cooling system, which plays the role of a valve that redirects the coolant flow from small to large. The operating temperature of the Daewoo Nexia power unit is 87 - 103 degrees Celsius.

When the car warms up, the thermostat is closed, which allows the engine to heat up more quickly and efficiently.

After the liquid temperature reaches 60-70 degrees, the thermostat opens and the coolant begins to circulate in a large circle, passing through the radiator.

The thermostat can rightfully be considered the most broken part of a car's cooling system. This is often due to the fact that the unit is jammed and the motor either overheats or does not heat up. The simplest solution to the problem is to replace the damaged part.

Water pump

A water pump or water pump circulates coolant throughout the system. The part is located in the cylinder block and is driven by a drive belt from the crankshaft. The part has a service life of 100,000 km, but due to low-quality spare parts it can fail much earlier.

A centrifugal-type water pump provides forced circulation of liquid in the cooling system, is installed in the front part of the cylinder block and is driven by a timing belt.

The axis of rotation of the pump pulley is made eccentric to the axis of its housing, which allows the belt tension to be adjusted by rotating the housing around the axis. The pump is equipped with sealed bearings that do not require replenishment of lubricant. The pump cannot be repaired; in case of failure (liquid leakage or damage to the bearings), it is replaced as an assembly.

Radiator and fan

The radiator and coolant fan are designed to ensure optimal engine cooling. The radiator itself is cooled with the help of a counter flow of air, but in the summer this is not enough, and the fan turns on.

The need to remove the thermostat and replace it may arise if the engine temperature is unstable: overheating or insufficient heating. To check the thermostat on your car, start the engine and touch the lower radiator hose with your hand - it should be cold. After the coolant temperature reaches 82-85 °C, the hose should begin to heat up. If this does not happen, remove the thermostat and check its operation.

Important little things

When to change the Daewoo Nexia 1.5 l thermostat and which one is better

This engine, G15MF , comes from the last century. Therefore, a long life and a good resource are guaranteed to him. Almost all spare parts for the piston, cylinder head, fuel system and cooling system have excellent endurance. There are nuances with the ergonomics of repair work, so at a service station, for example, to replace a thermostat, they ask for at least 500-800 hryvnia and three hours of time.

The essence of the operation is clear. So, or something like this, it is carried out at the service station

Those who drive a Nexia can hardly afford to waste thousands of hryvnia, so we suggest replacing the thermostat yourself. We will save money, and at the same time we will check the condition of the gas distribution mechanism drive, the pump and inspect the block and head for oil leaks. This happens quite often with the G15MF motor.

The service life of the original thermostat, as practice shows, can be close to 170-180 thousand mileage. Or maybe much less, it all depends on the plant where Nexia was assembled. It is also important which thermostat was installed initially. And, most importantly, how it is installed.

What is the best thermostat to install on a Nexia with a G15MF 8 cl.

The temperature at which the thermostat valve begins to open must be indicated on the body.
There are several types of thermostats and several brands on sale. First, let's determine the response temperature (beginning of opening) of the thermal valve . Here are the options:

  • 72 °C;
  • 82 °C;
  • 87 °C;
  • 92°C.

Naturally, the later the thermostat opens, the better the antifreeze warms up, since it does not enter the main cooling radiator and perfectly heats the heater radiator.
Interesting on the topic: Our Lanos. We change and check the outer CV joint of the Daewoo Sens/Lanos

A reputable manufacturer will include a sealing gasket along with the thermostat insert. If it is not there, you will have to install the old one, which is unsafe

Most of our drivers set their thermostats to open at 92 degrees. In fact, it begins to open at 88-89 degrees, which is quite acceptable for our weather conditions and acidic winters.

Also, the temperature of the antifreeze has a significant impact on fuel consumption.

Here are just some data collected from several on-board computers of the Daewoo Nexia 1.5 l:

  • from 40-60 °C – 11.2 l/100 km;
  • from 60-75 °C – 9.8 l/100km;
  • from 76-90 °C – 8.2 l/100km;
  • from 91-98 °C – 6.3 l/100 km.

Therefore, if we notice poor engine warming up or track the thermostat operating schedule using a scanner, and it does not fit into the nominal range, we change the thermostat.

The scanner graph clearly shows the difference between the operation of a new and tired thermostat

Brands, articles and prices of thermostats for the G15MF Nexia engine

Before installing a new thermostat, many recommend checking the temperature at which the thermal valve starts to operate. It is also necessary to check how tightly the valve closes and how wide it opens. All this is done simply, using a container of water and a thermometer.

Even if we really trust the brand, it is still better to check, since there is a lot of work to replace the thermostat. If something goes wrong, it will be a waste of time and money. Here's what the market offers us:

  • Gates thermostat , 88 degrees, price 170 hryvnia;
  • French Calorstat by Vernet TH4898.92J , bestseller, 92 degrees, price 200 hryvnia;
  • Calorstat by Vernet TH4898.87J , at 87 degrees, 180 hryvnia;
  • Wahler 3017.87D2 , 260 hryvnia, 87 degrees;
  • Wahler 3017.92D2 , respectively, at 92 degrees;
  • Mahle TX 1 92D and Mahle TX 1 87D , price about 320 hryvnia;
  • Polish Maxgear 67-0019 , inexpensive and high quality, 92 degrees, 130 hryvnia;
  • as if the original General Motors 96143939 , 300 hryvnia;
  • Behr Hella TX 1 92D - the most expensive, but not the most reliable, price 380 hryvnia;
  • MotoRad 202-88 is the cheapest (90-100 hryvnia), but not bad.

Interesting on the topic: Our Lanos. How to change and how to choose the right engine oil

There are other options, but there are either no reviews about them at all, or it’s better not to read them.

In some cases, you have to purchase an additional thermostat housing. For example, if a crack or chip has formed on it at the site where the pipe shrinks. Here is its catalog number.
