Selection and instructions for connecting fog lights (PTF) on a VAZ 2110

Unlike head illumination of the road, fog lights cope better with illumination in difficult weather conditions (rain, snow, fog). Although these simple emitters are not included in the basic configuration of the regular “ten”, below we will look at how to increase the functionality of your car and correctly install fog lights on a VAZ 2110.

Preparing for installation

Before you go to a car store, you should find out what exactly you need to purchase, taking into account the characteristics of your car.

And for this we visually define:

  • What type of dashboard is installed in the cabin;
  • Are there any seats (stampings) in the front bumper for installing PTF?

Note! Ready-made foglight kits have a lot of differences in the mounting method. In particular, the button for turning on the fog lights of the VAZ 2110 for cars with an old dashboard has a different shape than with a Euro-dashboard.

The kit for connecting fog lights of the VAZ 2110 has a double button for the Euro panel

Legal requirements

In auto parts stores you will find a huge selection of fog lights of different shapes and sizes.

But everything depends on the existing GOST 8769-75, according to the requirements of which:

  • Fog lights are only allowed to be installed in pairs;
  • Each headlight must be at least 400 mm away from the plane of the side marker (measured along the outer edge of the lens);
  • The distance from the road to the lower edge of the lens should not be less than 250 mm;
  • PTFs should not be installed higher than the head light.

Despite the “menacing appearance”, the connection diagram for fog lights on the VAZ 2110 has been followed

Note! It is allowed to install PTF on the roof of only those cars that are used on rally tracks or in Off-Road competitions.

Some reviews

Each master chooses the components for the car himself. To make it easier to navigate, we have collected reviews about the PTF on the VAZ 2110 from motorists:

Comment from the user Review from lazutin09 Review of Kirzhach

Fog lights from the Kirzhach Avtosvet plant have proven themselves to be inexpensive and reliable, easy to adjust, provide even, direct light, work for up to 5 years, the price justifies the performance. They are followed by Bosch: good light, sealed protection from moisture and dust, work up to 4 years, a little more expensive.

Comment from SVN Comment from Ronin Comment from Satch

Chinese lights on the VAZ 2110 have a short service life, uneven luminous flux, and sometimes come understaffed.

Ready-made PTF kits

Today you can find 2 types of foglights on sale, in which the light spot is formed:

  • Due to scratches on the glass (classic headlight with reflector);
  • Due to the lens (so-called lensed).

Complete set of lensed headlights - wiring, relay and PTF with adjustment system and plugs

Tip: Making stickers for your headlights will protect your lenses from damage.

Which ones to choose depends not only on your desire, but also on the configuration of the set.

In particular, to install PTF you will need:

  • Full compliance of the kit with your car model (in this case, VAZ 2110);
  • The adjustment system is easy to use (meaning, without removing the bumper or partially disassembling the headlight itself);
  • Visual instructions on how to connect fog lights on a VAZ 2110.

Each “correct” kit contains a wiring diagram for VAZ 2110 fog lights

Note! Only fog lights specially designed for the VAZ 2110 can be installed on a car without any body work. Manufacturers whose products are as easy to install as possible include the German Bosch and the domestic Avtosvet Plant, the price of whose products is significantly cheaper.

The famous “Kirzhachi” are produced at the Avtosvet Plant.
So, we found out that cars of the 2110 family may differ in the way they install PTF due to the technical features of the instrument panel and front bumper.

Everything else (installation of headlights and their integration into the electrical circuit) will not create problems, because:

  • The automaker has prepared the vehicle as much as possible for the installation of PTF;
  • Independent work will take only 1.5-2 hours of pure time.

Installation

A diagram for connecting fog lights on a VAZ 2110 is always offered with the purchased kit, so there shouldn’t be any special problems. But keep in mind that something may need to be corrected or adjusted to ensure effective operation.

Connection diagram

Before installing fog lights on a VAZ 2110, you need to decide on their location. If the design of the car does not provide space for them, then they will be mounted under the front bumper.

The PTF connection diagram is as follows.

  1. We install the wiring for fog lights on your car. This is done through the left side under the hood along the fender. The main wiring is approximately the same.
  2. Now you need to connect power to the button, which is located on the dashboard. According to the factory diagram, power is installed from the fuse on the right dimensions. But you can use the light switch button or the lead from the ignition switch to turn on the head optics. That is, in such a situation, the fog lights will turn on when the ignition is on. Some take power from the output to the dimensions. This can be done, but is not recommended. If you forget to turn off the PTF, the battery will soon run out.
  3. We connect the plugs to the headlights. If after this the fog lights on the VAZ 2110 do not light up, an error was made in the circuit. Check every element of the circuit. It is not difficult to determine where the fog lamp relay is located on a VAZ 2110, so make sure that the relay clicks. If it is present, then the coil will activate it. It is not uncommon to have to change a relay.

The last stage of installation begins after all the wires have been connected, the power has been turned on, and the light from the fog lights has spilled out. It's about adjustment.

Checking whether the PTF lights are shining correctly is quite simple. Get out on the road and see how the fog lights work. If the light is directed slightly downwards, the luminous flux touches both the road surface and the side of the road, then everything is working perfectly, and you don’t have to worry about the wrath of oncoming drivers whom you will blind.

If there are deviations from the norm, be sure to make adjustments. This work can be done independently, but ideal room conditions will be required. Therefore, it is better to trust the specialists from the car service center, who have a special stand, a flat area, and equipment for adjustment.

Self-installation

Electrical connection

Having purchased a ready-made PTF kit, you can begin to integrate it into the standard VAZ electrical wiring system:

  • Disconnect the battery (remove “+”);
  • Open the fuse box and use a screwdriver to unscrew 1 screw and remove the block into the passenger compartment;

The VAZ 2110 fog light switching circuit is protected by fuses

  • We unfold the block and find the terminals of two fuses F4 and F14. The first is responsible for protecting the right headlight, the second – the left;
  • The block also contains fuse F20, which is responsible for the operation of the rear PTFs;

Note! The connection diagram for the rear fog lights of the VAZ 2110 is initially present on all models, and consists of two-filament lamps in the side light unit.

  • We insert the copper wire connectors from the kit according to the attached diagram;
  • Separately, we bring out the wire for the button into the instrument panel and install it;
  • We lay the wires through the partition into the engine compartment;
  • Putting the fuse block back together.

Bumper installation

  • Remove the plastic plug and insert the wiring with the connector into the hole;
  • We connect it to the base and install the fog lamp for the VAZ 2110 in the bumper;
  • Take a Phillips screwdriver and screw the headlight with 2 self-tapping screws;
  • We pre-adjust its position;
  • We secure the wiring in the engine compartment, leaving some slack for replacement (for example, a burnt-out lamp);
  • We connect the battery and check the quality of the work performed.

The photo shows the process of fixing the PTF in the front bumper.
All that remains is to adjust the correct direction of the light flux. You will find information about this procedure in other articles on our website dedicated to AvtoVAZ models.

Fog lights. Are they necessary?

From an aesthetic point of view, of course, extra light sources on a car always look more impressive, especially if they are bright. But how urgent is the need for fog lights, what lamps are best to use in them, how to connect them and where to install them? And what color should the glass be? A lot of questions, but they all break down into one single “I want.” In principle, fog lights are needed if they correspond to their name and purpose. Fog lights are more than just additional headlights. This is a light that is designed specifically for driving in poor visibility conditions, namely in fog.

That's why they install a yellow filter in fog lights.

In this case, it doesn’t matter at all what kind of lamp is in the headlight - halogen, a regular incandescent lamp or diode fog lights. The main thing is the color of the light flux

And that's why. Fog is a water suspension consisting of microscopic particles of moisture. When hitting the surface of each drop, white light is refracted and scattered, turning into an impenetrable veil. It turns out to be a solid wall of white light, a cloud through which it is difficult to see anything. The yellow spectrum is able to penetrate suspension without scattering as much, therefore visibility in general is better when using a yellow filter.

Features of the VAZ 2110

The VAZ 2110 car is not very different from its younger brothers of the following modifications, but there are still some differences:

  1. This model does not have front fog lights. Moreover, the car bumper may not even have seats for PTF.
  2. For some reason, the car has rear fog lights, which seems strange: there are rear ones, but no front ones.
  3. The VAZ 2110 can be equipped with different types of panels: standard (also called old) and europanel. In the first case, there is no space for installing the PTF power button, but there are several slots for installing additional switches. In the case of the Europanel, the PTF button can be installed in a place previously provided for this, and the fuse panel has sockets for connecting fog lights.

Before you go to the store to buy an anti-fog kit (more about it below), carefully examine your car and find out what panel is installed in it, whether there are seats for fog lamps, what shape they are, etc. Otherwise, you may buy the wrong kit or the wrong fog lights.

How to connect fog lights with your own hands

Before directly installing the headlights, their location is determined. In the case of the VAZ 2115 car, the bumper already has standard holes for installing additional lighting fixtures. Similar ones can be cut in the bumpers of VAZ 2113 and VAZ 2114.

There is no need to spoil the appearance of the bumper - fog lights are easily installed on special brackets. Many PTF kits contain special decorative plugs that add attractiveness and neatness to the installed headlights and facilitate the installation process.

Installation and connection algorithm

  1. Installation of a power button in the car interior. In the case of the VAZ-2114, the place for the button is on the left side of the driver on the front panel. However, its placement can be arbitrary - the main thing is that it is convenient for the driver to drive the car. Often, PTF power buttons are installed instead of plugs on the control panel.
  2. The grille with the speaker is removed from the standard front panel. Behind it there are two connectors - one is for turning on the headlights, the second is for indicating the operation of lighting fixtures and illuminating the key itself.
  3. The button is placed in a convenient place, and chips are connected to it. The speaker grill can be returned to its place.
  4. Under the hood there should be a mounting block that combines fuses and relays. The PTF relay will be mounted in the same place, so the block must be removed: to do this, unscrew the nuts that secure it and lift it.
  5. On the bottom panel of the mounting block there are two blocks - 7 and 8. Each of the blocks is signed during production at the factory, so it is impossible to make mistakes at this stage.
  6. The PTF set contains a wiring harness with four contacts. The mentioned wires are pulled to the fuse block from the fog light relay.
  7. The relay is mounted in the engine compartment of the car.
  8. The wires coming from the PTF relay are connected to connectors 7 and 8 of the mounting block: in connector 7, terminal 8 is connected to terminal 30 from the relay, terminal 87 is connected to connector 1, terminal 85 is connected to connector 17 on terminal 7, terminal 86 is connected to ground . From block 8, terminals 2 and 3 are directed to the left and right fog lights, respectively.
  9. The ground wires are connected to the fog lights: they are usually attached to the nuts of the headlights.

Wiring diagram for connectors and terminals of fog lights

The functionality of the entire connection can be checked by turning on the side lights - only then will the fog lights work.

Fog lights only function when the side lights are on

After completing the installation of the PTFs on the car, they only need to be adjusted correctly. The flow of light should not blind drivers in the oncoming lane.

Video: instructions for installing and connecting fog lights

Fog lights are essential lighting equipment on any car, making it easier to travel in conditions of minimal visibility. If there is no PTF on a certain car model, you can install them yourself. The installation procedure does not require special knowledge and can be carried out by the driver without the involvement of third parties.

Requirements for installing PTF

How legal is it to independently install fog lights and will it not cause problems when meeting with traffic police officers? Let's consider excerpts from the standards by which PTF is established by the manufacturer (GOST 8769–75 and GOST 41.48–2004):

  1. Number of lanterns – 2 pcs.
  2. Installation height – not lower than 25 cm from the road surface, but lower than the low beam lights.
  3. Installation in width - no further than 40 cm from the side lights.
  4. The vertical coverage angle is 5-10 degrees.
  5. The lighting angle of the road surface (horizontal) is 45-55 degrees.
  6. PTFs are turned on only together with the side lights.

If PTFs are installed according to these rules, then no problems will arise with police officers.

Types of instrument panels and location of fog lamp buttons

As I noted above, depending on the modification, VAZ 2110 cars are equipped with two types of panels: the so-called old panel and the European panel. If you have a Europanel installed, then the place to install the button for turning on the fog lights is located to the left of the steering wheel, and this button is located in close proximity to the button for turning on the side lights.

On some modifications of the Europanel, the buttons for sidelights and fog lights may be located one above the other:

On a regular, old panel there is no special place for installing a PTF switch, but there are places for installing additional buttons for any purpose, including for connecting PTF. They are closed with plugs and are located on the switch panel between the driver and passenger.

On cars with an older panel, the space for additional buttons is located to the right of the driver

The indicated installation locations for the fog light switch on a VAZ are recommended, but not required. You can install the PTF button in any place convenient for you.

Installation Features

In 90% of cases, fog lights are installed near conventional headlights, in the front of the car. Installing headlights at the rear, firstly, is of little functionality, and secondly, requires additional financial costs. Most foreign cars produced in 2005 and later have a specially adapted connector in the front, while to install fog units in the rear of the car you will need to purchase the necessary console.

The fastest way to install fog lights on a car is to attach them to a special connector - a compartment on the bumper designed exclusively for this feature. If you choose original headlight models manufactured at the vehicle manufacturer's plant, installing fog lights will take only 15 minutes.

If there is no corresponding connector on the bumper, you will need to purchase additional fasteners. In particular, it is not necessary to install headlights exclusively from below: light elements can be located at the top of the car, which will not in any way affect their direct functions and is not prohibited by law.

Into the standard opening

How to properly install fog lights in the standard opening:

Raise the car 15-20 cm using a lifting mechanism.

Release (remove) the protection on the bumper.

Remove the protective clips on the bumper plugs.

Place the headlight in accordance with the guide lines, fasten with self-tapping screws.

Connect the electrical wiring.

If the headlights are original, the process takes no more than 15 minutes. If you use unsuitable mounts or headlights, such as Chinese equivalents, it will take more time to ensure compatibility of the parts.

Using a console (bracket)

A bracket (or console) is an element for installing various parts on a horizontal surface. For example, a fog light on a car's bumper or upper body.

Typically, the bracket is used on cars that do not have a special recess for installing fog lights. Thus, additional lighting can be installed not only on the sides (the classic installation usually used by most companies at the factory), but also in the central part of the bumper.

How to install fog lights using additional structures:

Attach the brackets using self-tapping screws or bolts. Typically, the bumper has many holes that can be used to accommodate additional structures, including a console.

Screw the fog lights to the bracket. It is better to use bolts for this.

Connect the wiring.

Depending on the complexity of the design, installing fog lights using a console takes about 20-30 minutes. Here the main role is played by the choice of fastening element: it is recommended to choose a material and color of the console that suits the style of the car. In this case, the selected element must be quite strong: when driving at a speed of 80 km/h and above, loosely secured brackets can become loose, which will subsequently lead to the possible loss of the fog light or damage to individual elements.

With bumper reconstruction

The most radical and most expensive way to install fog lights involves replacing the bumper. In fact, this is a full-fledged restyling of the car, since replacing the bumper with the simultaneous installation of fog lights changes not only the appearance of the car, but also the technical characteristics (improves visibility, maneuverability, etc.).

Instructions - how to install fog lights by removing the old bumper:

Remove the old bumper.

Measure the distance at which the new lighting will be located.

Draw a layout of the recess for the fog lights.

Drill holes and file the edges of the bumper. The smallest elements of the bumper are removed using a regular stationery knife (for paper).

Drill holes for fasteners (bolts, screws).

Insert the fog lights into the specially made recesses. Secure them with bolts or self-tapping screws.

Install the protective cover that comes with the headlights and is located in the upper part. Does not require new holes.

Adjust the headlight. The key for screwing in the element and its adjustment is included in the standard factory set of fog lights.

Set up electrical wiring.

Install the bumper on the car.

The installation time for fog lights this way is usually about 2 hours. The longest stage is associated with creating holes for the headlights, as well as dismantling and installing the bumper itself on the car. If you have certain repair skills, you can install the entire structure in an hour.

Selection of fog lights for the VAZ 2110

The range of PTFs for the VAZ 2110 today is quite wide: large and small, round and square, yellow and white. Which ones to choose? Everything here will depend on your taste and financial capabilities, but I still dare to give some advice.

  1. Yellow light is less absorbed by water (and fog and rain are water). This means that yellow PTFs will produce a higher quality light spot than white ones of the same power, and at the same time they will not dazzle oncoming drivers.
  2. The shape of the headlights does not matter, the main thing is that they should fit the seats of your bumper as best as possible.
  3. You should not buy very expensive headlights from famous brands. Most often, such companies charge a lot of money just for the fact that they are famous (the so-called surcharge for the brand).
  4. Before purchasing, take the headlight in your hands and carefully examine the quality of the body and glass. Even by its weight and appearance, you can feel whether it is a worthwhile thing or junk that will fall apart after 100 km of run.

Below I will give some common and affordable PTF models for the VAZ 2110 that really deserve attention.

Installation process

Before installing fog lights on a VAZ 2110, you should carefully consider purchasing them.

But don’t rush to the store, but first figure out what kind of front bumper your car is equipped with. If the bumper has seats for PTF (they are usually closed with plugs), then everything is in order. Measure your seats and go to the store.

If the installation of fog lights on your bumper is not provided, then you will either have to buy a new bumper or do it yourself. Here everything will depend on your desires and capabilities, since there are always PTFs on sale with decorative overlays that can be installed on almost any bumper.

In some modifications of bumpers there are no holes for fog lights, but the places for their installation are stamped. In this case, first select the headlights that will fit your bumper, and only then cut the mounting holes for them.

This can be done using a conventional drill by drilling a series of holes around the perimeter of the future seats.

After the hole is cut or the plugs are removed, install the PTFs in their places, following the instructions and using the fasteners included with the headlights. Typically, headlights are attached through a decorative trim using two screws.

What does the market offer?

Such products will have to be installed with your own hands in every sense - drilling, cutting, fastening and adjusting their functionality.
Today, two types of lighting devices are available for free sale:

  1. Built-in optics in standard places of the front bumper;
  2. Fog lamp VAZ 2110, mounted on brackets.

Therefore, we will highlight only the main 4 manufacturers whose products deserve attention:

  1. from the Vladimir region, which has been producing lighting devices for the domestic automotive industry for more than 70 years. Among motorists, Kirzhach fog lights on the VAZ 2110 have long proven themselves to be the best;

Branded PTF packaging produced by Avtosvet with factory index 3743010

The company's instructions require you to verify the authenticity of the product (protection against counterfeiting)

  1. The Automotive Lighting company from Ryazan offers products manufactured under Bosch license. In fact, this Russian enterprise is a division of a German and Italian association, having mastered the technology of manufacturing reflectors from synthetic material with a free surface.

The company from Ryazan is a supplier to many domestic automobile companies

  1. The Luch enterprise, also located in Ryazan. A special feature of this production is its own development of foglights for domestic car models.

The price of Luch products is one of the lowest on the Russian market with fairly high quality

  1. German automaker Bosch. This brand of products is well known in many countries around the world. For cars of the tenth family, the produced PTFs are ideal - no modifications are required in the bumper or in the standard VAZ wiring. Bosch headlights are considered the best, leaving all competitors behind. But the same cannot be said about their cost.
  2. Products from Southeast Asia under the common ProSport brand; Xenon ProSport also deserves attention from car owners
  3. Hella fog lights for the VAZ 2110 are often offered in a version with a bracket. But this is a really high-quality product that can improve the illumination of the roadway and roadside in dense fog. (See also the article Which fog lights are better on the VAZ 2110: features.)

The high quality of the products is confirmed by high-quality packaging

Connection to electrical circuit

So, the VAZ fog lights are installed in their regular places, all that remains is to connect them to the VAZ hog network. According to the current rules (see above), PTF can only be turned on together with the side lights. If you turn on the PTF, but forget to turn on the “dimensions”, then this will already be a violation.

The fact is that the fog lights are installed quite close to each other, and in the dark the oncoming driver will not be able to correctly assess the width of your car. That is why the side lights must be on when the PTF is operating.

To prevent this from happening, the connection diagram for fog lights in a VAZ is assembled in such a way that they cannot be turned on with the lights turned off. Despite its apparent complexity, the circuit is quite simple, and anyone with basic knowledge of electrical engineering can understand it.

Typical electrical connection diagram for PTF VAZ 2110

When the headlights are turned on, voltage from them is supplied to the fog light switch, allowing it to start working. When you press it, voltage is supplied to the electromagnetic relay, which connects the VAZ fog lights to the +12 V bus. The second wire supplying the headlights is connected to the car body, which, as you know, is the negative wire for all VAZ electrical equipment.

At the same time, the supply voltage is supplied to the indicator lamp, indicating that the PTFs are turned on. So that in the dark the fog light switch can be easily found on the panel, it is illuminated by a miniature pilot lamp. It can be connected in parallel to any panel backlight lamp.

If you are not very experienced in electrical engineering, then you may have a question: why a relay if voltage can be supplied to the headlights directly from the switch? The fact is that fog lights consume quite a lot of current, which neither the PTF switch nor the headlight switch wiring simply can withstand.

In the best case, when turning on the PTF without a relay, the fuse for the dimensions will burn out, in the worst case, the wiring of the dimensions and the equipment that powers them will burn out.

Theoretically, the scheme is clear, but how to implement it in practice? As I said above, there are several modifications of the VAZ 2110, 2111, 2112 that are not equipped with fog lights. Some have old-type panels, others have so-called Europanels. Let's consider the installation procedure for both cases.

Connecting PTF in a car with an old panel

Based on the above diagram, in order to organize fog lighting on this VAZ model, in addition to the fog lights, you will have to buy an installation kit consisting of the following elements:

  • PTF power button;
  • PTF turn-on relay;
  • set of installation wires;
  • fuse(s);
  • accessories (ties, terminals, brackets, adapters, etc.);
  • connection instructions.

Kit for connecting fog lights for VAZ 2110 with an old panel

When buying a kit, choose the one that is designed specifically for the standard VAZ 2110 panel. The standard and Euro panels differ in the shape and size of the PTF button seats.

If the kit is in hand and the illuminators are installed, all that remains is to assemble a circuit that will look like this:

PTF connection diagram for the old panel (pin 86 is connected to the car body)

The only problem that will have to be solved is to find a place for the relay, since the car’s design does not imply a standard mounting. You can place it anywhere: even under the panel, even in the engine compartment away from the heating parts of the engine.

If the kit does not come with a coil of wire, but with ready-made wires with connectors, then when installing the relay, be guided by the length of these wires.

Option for relay location for fog lights in the engine compartment

All that remains is to lay the wires and, if necessary, press the knife pads that come with the kit onto them (ordinary pliers will do), and then assemble the circuit. When laying wires, try to run them close to the standard harnesses - this is the safest place for them. They will not fray or fall on the hot parts of the engine. At the same time, take the length of the wires with a small margin and often grab them to the body or the standard wiring harness with the clamps included in the kit.

Be sure to install the fuse included in the kit! In the event of an accident in the wiring of the fog lights, it will save the car from fire.

Connecting PTF in a car with a Europanel

If your car has a Europanel installed, then the connection diagram for the fog lights changes somewhat, since the manufacturer has provided for their installation. In addition, the kit for connecting fog lights for VAZ, as I noted above, should have a button of a slightly different shape than for cars with a regular panel.

Kit for connecting fog lights for VAZ 2110 with Europanel (the difference is in the shape of a button)

After the wires from the lights are brought into the cabin, open the wiring box, which is located on the left under the steering wheel:

The VAZ 2110 mounting box with Europanel is secured with two self-tapping screws

Find the locations of fuses F4 and F14. If they already have 10 A fuses, then everything is in order. If not, then install the ones included with the kit. They will be responsible for the safe operation of the right and left headlights, respectively.

Marking of fuses VAZ 2110 with Europanel

All that remains is to assemble the circuit by connecting the relays, illuminators and button according to the diagram above and connect it all to blocks Ш1 and Ш3.

PTF connection diagram for VAZ 2110 europanel

Where can I find these pads? They are located on the side opposite the fuses in the same mounting block, and they are numbered as follows:

Numbering of mounting pads for VAZ 2110 with Europanel

After installing and connecting the fog lights, do not forget to adjust them correctly and make sure that they shine in the right direction. Otherwise, they will not so much help in bad weather as hinder you and oncoming drivers.

So we figured out how to install non-standard fog lights on a VAZ 2110 with our own hands. It turns out that this is not difficult to do yourself, and installing them is completely legal and even desirable. After all, good lighting on the road is additional safety for all road users.

Second option for connecting foglights

First, select an area to install the devices - for this purpose there is a small compartment below the bumper. By the way, headlights are different, some of them are corrugated, designed to diffuse light, and transparent ones illuminate with spots. Although transparent units are in great demand today among VAZ-2110 owners, experts consider them not so useful.

Installation begins by disconnecting the wires going to the fluid level sensor and washer reservoir. Disconnect the nut located on the washer tank and remove the entire bundle of cables located on the left under the side member.

When considering connector Ш1, you should take into account 3 wires: yellow and 2 yellow-black. Cut 2 pieces of yellow cable and stretch it inside the VAZ-2110 interior. Next, strip the cable, crimp it with male-type terminals of sufficient width and locate it inside the block so that the wire is connected to the one painted black and yellow.

Connect the block with 2 yellow wires together, press them to the harness, after which you can mount the washer tank in its original place.

Now you will need a wire (2 pieces) with a length of up to 0.5 m. Add the ground terminals and secure to the stud, also grab the ground wire coming from the headlight. When the cable from the fog lamp is already in the front side member, stretch the cable where you plan to fix the headlights. Don't forget to treat each cable with a ground terminal.

All that remains is to put the brackets on the bumper, and the female terminal blocks on the wires. Preparing headlights involves inserting light bulbs into the devices; experts do not recommend touching the light bulbs with your hands; when they heat up, the risk of heating increases and the devices may burst.

If you doubt that you have not touched the light bulbs, or you know for sure that you have touched them, you need to degrease the surface using alcohol. Next, connect the black cable to the housing base, and connect the yellow cable directly to the light bulb. Even a beginner, using this option for installing fog lights, will be able to figure out how to properly connect fog lights to a VAZ-2110, and will do it in just a couple of hours.

Why is this necessary?

Modern fog lights provide significantly more “penetrating” light through fog and rain and better illuminate the road surface. Firstly, PTFs produce a flatter luminous flux, spreading above the ground and spreading more in width than in height.

This was not done in vain. The fact is that due to the discrepancy in the temperature of the air and the ground (the ground is warmer), the fog rarely reaches the road itself, which means that with such headlights on the VAZ 2110 you will see the road you are driving on at least ten meters further ahead low beam headlights.

Secondly, due to the beam width of the fog lights, you will see the roadside and markings. This will prevent you from “flying off” the road, which is not uncommon in fog.

Thirdly, you will not blind oncoming cars, but you yourself will be visible to other road users, if, of course, the adjustment is made correctly. This means that the probability that another car will not crash into your VAZ 2110 increases.

Basic Setup Aspects

Setting up and adjusting lighting includes several steps:

  1. First you need to make sure that the headlights are working normally and do not turn on at the same time as the low beams. If this is the case, then you will not be able to adjust the light correctly.
  2. After this, you need to check how securely the headlights are fixed. If the optics are loose, then, of course, the adjustment will be useless. In addition, it is also necessary to check the tire pressure - this indicator should be the same, and the car should be parked on a flat surface.
  3. To make the adjustment, you will need not only a flat surface, but also a place with a solid fence or wall in front of it. Having found such a place, it is necessary to measure the distance from the ground to the axis of the PTF installation, and this distance must be marked on the wall in front of the car.
  4. The machine is placed at a distance of five meters from a wall or fence, at which point the preparation procedure can be considered almost complete. For more accurate indicators, some weight should be placed on the driver's seat in accordance with the driver's weight. On average, the weight of the load should be about 75 kg. First you need to adjust the distance between the light streams; it should be about 57.7 cm from the central vertical axis. Each headlight must be adjusted separately, but when adjusting one lamp, the second should be covered with a piece of paper or cardboard; any opaque material will do.
  5. Once the distance has been set, you can adjust the height of the optics. In this case, the adjustment is also carried out on each lamp separately, and the center of the light must correspond to the location of the lighting components. The adjustment itself is made using a special bolt located on the side. To do this, you can find a corresponding hole in the frame into which a screwdriver is inserted.

Basic tips regarding adjusting fog lights are given in the video below (the author of the video is the Test Lab channel, Autolamp tests).

Installing fog lights is not just a step towards improving the appearance of the VAZ 2110, but also taking care of your own convenience and safety. That is why you should know how the fog lights are connected to the VAZ 2110 and ensure the best conditions for driving in bad weather.

Color meaning

Some people, in the old fashioned way, believe that it is better when the fog glass is yellow. But this is not true. Most leading manufacturers today produce transparent white fog lights, and they are not only as good as yellow ones, but often superior to them.

On the VAZ 2110 you can install corrugated or transparent glass. The latter are for some reason more fashionable, although less useful, since they shine in spots, while the corrugated ones give a more directed beam, which really increases visibility in bad weather.

Question about glass color for fog lights

On old cars, the glass of the fog lights was yellow, so many people think that it should be like this now, it is more correct and more efficient.

In reality, everything is different. Today, auto industry leaders use exclusively clear glass for fog lights, which are superior to yellow ones in many components.

The current fog lights on the VAZ 2110 are available in two versions - transparent and corrugated. Most people choose transparent glass, although in fact, corrugated glass is better. They provide a clear directional beam that can show its best side during fog or rain.

Buying what you need

You can, in principle, buy a ready-made set along with wires, but many believe that if you buy everything separately, the number of installation options increases, and it will all cost less. So, we buy:

  • Set of headlights (2 pieces);
  • Plastic pads;
  • Headlight frames;
  • A key and a yellow indicator for it;
  • Relay;
  • Wires. It is better to purchase ones from an electrical equipment store, so that there are two copper conductors with double insulation (ShVVP-2 is suitable). A cross section of 0.5 mm will also be normal, but if you want to install lamps of higher power, take 0.75 mm;
  • Terminal for installation to ground;
  • Wide as well as narrow terminals, called mother/father. When purchasing them, it is advisable not to take them complete with wires. Installation will be more convenient if these terminals are crimped with pliers already on the connections of the installed wires.

Kit for connecting fog lights on VAZ 2110

Note: if your VAZ has an old-style dashboard, then it is better to buy a PTF 2110 kit, but for a new, so-called EURO, it is more convenient to connect PTF 2115.

You can, of course, vary it, but we are talking specifically about the convenience of the location of the buttons. Regarding the power of the lamps, 55 W is enough, no more is needed. Also keep in mind that very cheap fog lights will not last long.

Materials and tools

You can easily buy a ready-made PTF kit with all the wires, and then you won’t have to figure out where the fog light relay is located on a VAZ 2110. However, if you purchase spare parts separately, this will diversify the installation options, plus it will allow you to save money.

Connection kit

Therefore, you need to purchase the following:

  • Two sets of headlights;
  • Plastic pads;
  • Headlight frames;
  • A key with a yellow indicator for it;
  • Relay;
  • Wiring. Choose an option with two copper conductors and double insulation, for example ShVVP2. A cross section of 0.5 mm is suitable, but if the lamps are powerful, 0.75 mm is better;
  • Ground terminals;
  • Female/male terminals - wide and narrow terminals.

It is not worth taking the mother-father complete with wires. It is better to crimp them using pliers when the wiring is already connected.

Pay attention to what kind of dashboard you have. If it is an old model, buy a set of fog lights for the VAZ 2110, and if it is a Euro dashboard, then it is better to use the PTF for the VAZ 2115.

As for the light bulb, 55V is more than enough power. We strongly do not recommend buying cheap fog lights, since their service life is very short.
