The LADA Priora interior heating system performs a number of functions (heats, cools, ventilates the interior); in this article we will look at the heater design separately.

The car is equipped with a heating and ventilation system, which serves to create the most comfortable conditions for the driver and passengers, regardless of weather conditions. The heating and ventilation system includes:

  1. heater
  2. heater fan.
  3. cabin air temperature sensor.
  4. air distributor housing.
  5. air ducts
  6. deflectors.

The air from the heater enters the air distributor housing and then into the air ducts. Through them, air is supplied to the windshield and side window vents, to the central and side deflectors on the instrument panel, as well as to the feet of the driver and passengers.

Heater radiator

The heater radiator is connected by hoses to the engine cooling system. Coolant constantly circulates through the heater radiator. The heater control damper directs outside air to or bypass the heater core. In intermediate positions of the damper, part of the air passes through the radiator, and the rest bypasses the radiator. In the extreme positions of the damper, all air passes through the radiator or bypasses it.

The heater is installed in the engine compartment under the right windshield trim and is attached to the front panel. A filter is installed at the heater inlet to clean the air entering the heating and ventilation system.

Replacement steps

This task is not difficult, but painstaking and difficult for absolute beginners. To avoid any difficulties, you must strictly follow the work plan described below.

  1. Disconnecting the “−” terminal of the battery and the wire.
  2. Dismantling the frill.
  3. Disconnecting the block with wires from the connector on the additional rheostat.
  4. Removing the fasteners on the resistor using a Phillips screwdriver of the appropriate size.
  5. Removing a faulty mechanism on the heater.
  6. Installing a working mechanism according to the same scheme, but in reverse order.

Interior ventilation of LADA Priora


Air leaves the car interior through valves installed on the rear panel of the trunk, behind the bumper.
In the rear part of the trunk lining, opposite the valves, there are holes for air outlet. When loading the trunk, do not block the air outlets in the trunk lining. You won’t be able to ride much in the cold season with a non-working stove, so repairing it won’t be shelved. If you don’t want to turn to specialists, but want to do everything yourself, then you will initially need to study the design of the Priora stove without air conditioning or with air conditioning, depending on the car model. The electrical circuit of the Priora heater also requires attention.

How the stove works on the Lada Priora

The Lada Priora has two systems that are responsible for creating and maintaining comfortable conditions inside the cabin. This is a heating system and ventilation system, which includes the following elements:

  • heater;
  • a fan that is synchronized with the stove;
  • interior temperature sensor;
  • air distribution housing;
  • deflectors.

The heated air flows from the heater into the air distribution housing, after which it is directed to the corresponding air ducts. This way the heat is distributed throughout the cabin:

  • to the air vents on the windshield and side windows;
  • to the deflectors in the center and side of the dashboard;
  • to warm your feet.

Signs and causes of gear motor failure

There are two signs of a gearmotor failure on a Priora. Here they are:

  • when starting the heater, a loud grinding or knocking noise is heard from under the dashboard, which becomes louder as the heating fan speed increases;
  • inability to adjust the oven temperature. The heater blows either only hot air or only cold air. The position of the temperature regulator on the dashboard does not matter in this case.

All of the above happens for very specific reasons. Here are the most common of them:

    one or more teeth on one of the gear motor gears has broken. The tooth fragments rotate together with the damaged gear and hit the plastic housing of the gearbox from the inside. As a result, a characteristic dull rattle or knock occurs, which is clearly audible in the cabin;

A burnt-out gear motor can also cause malfunctions in the Priora heater.

What is included in the heating system

The heater is located in the engine compartment in the area of ​​the right windshield trim. It is attached to the front panel. The entrance to the heating system is occupied by a filter, which is responsible for cleaning the air used for heating and ventilation.

The design of the Priora stove consists of a number of elements:

  • filter cover;
  • filter, which is used for heating and ventilation;
  • heater housing;
  • micromotor gearbox;
  • radiator;
  • additional resistor on the fan;
  • fan.

Principle of operation

In addition, the Priora heater device includes important components, without which normal operation of the stove would be impossible. These include the following mechanisms:

  1. The operation of the control unit is based on turning the knobs, each of which is responsible for one or another system parameter.
  2. The cabin temperature sensor allows you to maintain the required temperature at a constant level. This mechanism is located in the headliner trim.
  3. The additional resistor is located in the fan housing along with the fan, radiator, filter and damper.
  4. The radiator is connected through hoses to the system that cools the engine. During vehicle operation, coolant circulates from the engine to the radiator all the time. The heater is controlled by a damper, which changes the direction of outside air, directing it towards or past the radiator. The damper can be located in an intermediate position, which provides for the division of the external air flow: one part is directed to the radiator, and the other passes past it.
  5. The micromotor is responsible for controlling the movement of the damper. It is located on the left side of the body. The micromotor gearbox has an output shaft, which is connected to the axis on the damper.

Air flow distribution

As mentioned earlier, the heated air is distributed throughout the entire cabin, rather than blowing at one point. This heating turns out to be more efficient. Such heating features are provided for by the design of the Priora heater. The following elements are responsible for performing these functions:

  • air ducts from the side deflector and glass blower;
  • air distribution housing;
  • flap;
  • damper gear motor;
  • air duct for blowing feet.

The air distribution housing and air ducts are mounted behind the instrument panel. Inside the air distributor housing there are dampers that are responsible for changing the direction of air flow. The rotation of the dampers is the result of a gearmotor, which is located on the air distribution housing.

When the car is moving, air enters the cabin under high-speed pressure. For this, holes are used that are located in the wind window trim on the right. To make the air flow more powerful and independent of the speed of the car, a heater fan is provided. The electronic fan motor can operate at four speeds.

Lada Priora with air conditioning

The electrical circuit of the Priora stove with air conditioning is somewhat different from the option discussed above, because in this case another complex mechanism is added. There are two types of air conditioners installed on Prioras:

  1. "HALLA" is produced in Korea;
  2. Panasonic is made in Taiwan.

To immediately determine the brand of the air conditioner that is installed in your car, you need to pay attention to the button in the center of the control unit. Panasonic air conditioners have a power button, but Halla does not have such functionality.

The layout of the Priora heater with air conditioning differs depending on which company the equipment is installed. We have identified the main and most significant differences:

  1. The Panasonic compressor uses a 120 cubic meter rotor blade. cm, and in Halla it is axial, with five pistons, with an inclined washer and a volume of 160 cc. cm.
  2. Panasonic uses a condenser with a receiver and a fan attached to the body, while the Korean equivalent uses a condenser with a receiver and two paired electric fans attached to the radiator. The refill volume in the Halla air conditioner is 100 g larger.
  3. The air distributor in Panasonic uses a standard original one, located in the cabin, while in the analog version it is equipped with a gearmotor.

Device principle

Next, let’s look at the Panasonic air conditioner circuit, which consists of the following components:

  1. The compressor is a single-pass rotary with three blades. This element builds up the required pressure and maintains the circulation of the refrigerant. The compressor is located under the generator.
  2. A condenser is a heat exchanger that provides cooling to a gaseous refrigerant by turning it into a liquid state. This mechanism is located on the radiator frame.
  3. The evaporator is also a heat exchanger; its purpose is to cool and dry the air before it enters the cabin. This device is located in the heater housing.
  4. The receiver has the shape of a metal cylinder, which is connected to the capacitor. This mechanism ensures the accumulation of liquid refrigerant and separation of moisture and debris. There is a filter drier inside the receiver.
  5. Pipelines.

This is the element that is added to the Priora stove with air conditioning. Now that you know the structure of the stove in the Lada Priora, troubleshooting will be much easier.

The Lada Priora stove only works in the max position - causes of the malfunction

I want to share my experience in repairing my Priora (with Panasonic air conditioning), or rather the stove in it. The point is this: the stove only works in the max position. In all others there is silence. There are several problems that lead to this. 1. In general, on Priors with Panasonic air conditioning there is a Rotation Speed ​​Controller (RFV) for the fan. As a rule, it burns out, and the airflow button on the console starts blinking and the fan does not blow.

It is located under the plastic air intake on the driver's side. You need to remove the wipers, unscrew the air intake... it will be screwed on with two screws and there will be one chip going to it.

The problem is with him. Either replace it, but it costs about 2000 rubles, or repair it (I repaired it). 2. There may also be a bad contact in the chip. I didn't find the name of this connector, but the heater wires go through it. There may be a bad connection there.

How bad is the contact here? Either strip, solder, insulate... or re-solder the entire connector. 3. The switches on the console are acting up. It's either change or repair.

Next, I want to tell you how to repair this RHF. In general, in this thing either a transistor or a fuse burns out (it costs pennies). If you do it yourself: you need to unscrew all the screws and a picture will open - a green board screwed to the case.

We unsolder everything, check and replace what burned out. There will be a fuse under the transistor.

Important points

There are a couple of nuances, without mentioning which this article would be incomplete:

  • The old gearbox should be removed very carefully. A long shank sticks out of it. If you remove the gearbox at an angle, you can damage the edge of the hole for the shank. If this happens, installing a new gearbox will not be so easy. Therefore, advice: when removing the gearbox, it should be pulled in a plane parallel to the floor;
  • When buying a new gearbox at a car dealership, you should only buy the original VAZ one. Yes, its quality leaves much to be desired. But this is still better than buying a fake gearmotor, which the spare parts market is literally flooded with now. You can spot a fake by price. A normal gearmotor on a Priora costs 700 rubles and more. And a fake rarely costs more than 300 rubles.

So, replacing a heating gear motor is not a very difficult task and even a novice driver can do it. If a person has held a screwdriver in his hands at least once, he can handle it. All you need to do is follow the above recommendations exactly.
