The cooling fan of the Priora with air conditioning does not work

Where is it located?

The fan is located on the inside of the radiator between the engine and radiator. Bolted to the radiator housing. In luxury versions of the Lada Priora, a dual cooling radiator is installed, one for the engine cooling system, and the other for the car's air conditioning system. It should be noted that when the car reaches a critical temperature, these radiators begin to work in pairs and cool the engine more intensively.

Priora knock sensor

A knock sensor is a device that detects the knock levels of internal combustion engine processes. The installation location of such a device is the cylinder block. Maintaining it makes it possible to obtain high power, as well as achieve good fuel economy without causing damage to the engine.

The detonation process is the main defect of an internal combustion engine, since the force is considerable and it is impossible to ignore it. Among several different devices that are used as performance optimizations, the knock sensor is used to prevent knocking fuel combustions. Fuel detonation can be controlled thanks to the main indicator - the manifestation of high-pitched and ringing metallic sounds, which, according to indicators, are sometimes mistaken for the clicking sounds of the cylinder-piston group. If the process is strong enough, with faulty knock prevention systems the engine begins to fail.

Protection system

Since the fan is an electrical part, it must have some kind of protection against short circuits or overheating. To provide this protection, it uses a relay and a fuse, which quite often fail, resulting in the fan not working.

Priora cooling fan fuse

To protect the circuit from short circuits and overloads, a fuse is used, which breaks the circuit when it overheats or a short circuit occurs in it.

The Priora uses several fuses to protect the cooling fan circuit: power and control. The cooling fan power fuse is located under the hood in a block near the battery number F3 at 60A. The control circuit fuse is located in the fuse box under the steering column and is numbered F1 at 25A.

Priora cooling fan relay

The location of the relay depends on the vehicle configuration.

In the “NORM” configuration, the fan relay is located on the main fuse block under the steering column and has the number K1.

In the “NORM+” and “LUX” configurations, the relays are located in the engine compartment and there are 2 of them. For the right fan, relay number 3, for the left fan, relay number 5.

Priora cooling fan sensor

The cooling fan on the Priora turns on automatically when a certain temperature is reached. The coolant temperature is determined by a special sensor installed in the thermostat housing, which sends signals to the ECU when the engine temperature reaches a high temperature, after which the cooling fan turns on and begins to create an artificial air flow through the radiator.

The sensor is a simple part inside which houses a thermistor. As the temperature changes, it changes its resistance.

Other names are also often used - electric fan, electric fan, cooling motor, radiator motor...

LUZAR manufactures a wide range of electric cooling fans for Russian and foreign cars. New models of fans are constantly being developed for the most popular cars in Russia and the CIS countries.

Design of LUZAR cooling fans

It includes two elements - an impeller, which provides the necessary air circulation, and an electric motor, which rotates the impeller.

Impeller (impeller, wing)

The impeller is made of reinforced polypropylene (grodnamid), which guarantees strength and, at the same time, some elasticity of the blades.

The fan impeller is rigidly fixed on the electric motor shaft.

The impeller has blades (vanes) that are specially profiled to provide the most efficient air delivery. The blades can be straight, parabolic (curved) or involute (curved several times).

Electric motor (motor)

An electric cooling fan motor consists of a housing, a shaft with a rotor placed on it, a stator made of permanent magnets fixedly mounted on the housing, sliding contacts (brush assembly), a commutator, spark-extinguishing chokes and two bearings at the ends of the shaft.

The design of the electric motor does not imply maintainability. The electric motor has a service life of more than 5,000 hours, which is equivalent to approximately 8 years of average operation.

A common question is: what is the purpose of spark suppression chokes? They are needed in order to “extinguish” the spark that occurs when the contact of the brushes with the commutator breaks, due to which the brushes and commutator quickly wear out (burn out).

LUZAR: efficient fans

LUZAR places great emphasis on fan efficiency. The volume of air supply largely depends on the correct configuration of the blades. This is why it is so important to select the correct blade profile for a specific electric motor operating at a certain speed.

Creating an impeller profile consists of two stages - calculation and testing. At the design stage, the design department theoretically develops the optimal impeller profile. But at the testing stage, prototypes of impellers are being studied in a wind tunnel. As a result of painstaking work, an impeller with the most optimal shape is created.

LUZAR: modern and reliable fans

Today, LUZAR electric fans are one of the most modern products on the Russian market. In particular, LUZAR fans for Lada cars are unique - the set of technical solutions implemented in these products is not found in competing products. Causes of failure

Quite often it happens that the cooling fan on a Priora stops working, this may be due to the following reasons:

  • The fuse has blown;
  • The fan control relay has burned out;
  • The fan switch sensor is faulty;
  • The motor winding has burned out;
  • The fan power connector has come off;

If the engine cooling fan does not work on your car, then you need to examine all possible options for its malfunction, which are indicated above.

Video “How to properly replace the thermostat on a Lada Kalina?”

If the problem of a non-functioning sensor in a Lada Kalina car lies in the failure of the thermostat, then this unit will also need to be replaced; detailed instructions for replacing it at home are presented below (the author of the video is Alexey Golubkov).

The cooling fan on Lada Priora is the most important element of the system for maintaining the operating temperature of the car engine. It provides rapid cooling of the radiator, which cools the coolant in the system. The temperature sensor activates the device. When the desired temperature is reached, the sensor sends a signal to the ECU, which activates the fan until the temperature in the system drops to the operating temperature. Quite often, an element of the cooling system fails for one reason or another, which negatively affects the engine.

If the cooling fan on a LADA Priora fails, this can cause serious damage to the car’s engine and urgent measures must be taken. Initially, it is worth studying the main causes of this malfunction and taking a number of measures to eliminate them.

Block in the engine compartment

The power fuse box is located in the engine compartment under the hood, near the left strut support. To get to it, you need to open the lid by prying the latch.

1 (30 A) - engine control system circuit . If there are problems with the electronic control unit, short circuits or other malfunctions, this fuse may blow out.

2 (30 A) - vehicle on-board circuit . 3 (40 A) - vehicle on-board circuit .

4 (60 A) - generator circuit.

5 (50 A) - electric power steering circuit.

6 (60 A) - generator circuit.

In case of any problems, it is important not to panic, to think soberly and logically. The most important thing is to diagnose and establish the cause of the breakdown. If you don’t have enough experience or nerves, it’s easier to sign up at the nearest car service center if it has a competent electrician.
