What wheel sizes does the manufacturer recommend to install?

The VAZ 2114 2114x 2010 1.5i is equipped with 5Jx13 ET35 rims assembled with 175/70 R13 82T tires as standard. Where:

  • 5J - rim width in inches;
  • 13″ — tire diameter in inches;
  • ET35 - disc offset in millimeters.

The vehicle tire marking 175/70 R13 is deciphered as follows:

  • 175 — profile width (cross section of the tire) in millimeters;
  • 70 - profile height as a percentage of its width;
  • R - radial cord winding;
  • 13 - tire diameter in inches.

In addition, information about its load capacity and speed parameters can be printed on the rubber - load index and speed index. The load index is a two- or three-digit number; the speed index is indicated in Latin letters, for example 82T:

  • 82 - maximum permissible tire load 475 kg;
  • T — maximum permissible vehicle speed is 190 km/h.

Using the recommended tire sizes will help you avoid problems with handling, safety and other difficulties. What non-standard sizes can be supplied? Refer to the table; it indicates possible acceptable alternative sizes for tuning. Although there are other options that we have not described in the table. For example, wider discs of the same diameter. Or install wheels of the same width, but with a larger diameter, which is quite popular among car owners. The choice of discs is huge; you can find copies with the same parameters, but with an overhang 1-2 millimeters more or less. It is not possible to list all the options.

At the same time, the bolt pattern for all types of wheels is the same - 4x98. Thus, all disks are mounted on four bolts and the distance between them is exactly ninety-eight millimeters. The diameter of the car's hub is 58.6 mm.

Basic options

In the standard version, the wheels of this car have a relatively small diameter - 13 inches. At the same time, the rubber profile is quite large.

Both of these indicators make this car very suitable for tuning - after all, the car enthusiast can vary the wheel diameter and tire profile size within fairly wide limits (for example, install larger diameter wheels with low-profile tires). This also includes the ability to install a wide variety of disks.

So, how to choose the wheel size for a VAZ 2114? To begin with, we note that without any additional calculations, this car can be equipped with wheels with a diameter of 14 inches and a tire width of 5 to 6 inches (this fact is directly stated in the car’s passport).

Two types of tires can be installed on such wheels - 185/60 R14 and 175/65 R14 (the first option is more preferable). Also, if desired, you can install 15-inch wheels with very low profile tires. True, sometimes such a fact can interfere with passing a technical inspection - after all, the use of wide rims for this car is not recommended (which is also stated in the car’s passport).

Basic option

Not everyone knows, but the Latin letter R in the tire designation means “radial”, and the number following it is the diameter of the disk, not its radius.

Indexes and calculation

It is also worth considering those situations when there are no suitable tires, but something needs to be installed on the car (or there is a desire for tuning, but it is not known whether the tires you like will fit?).

A direct calculation of the wheel diameter will help solve this situation. In order to do this, let’s first consider examples of the designation of the tires themselves. Let's say we have a 175/70 R13 tire (factory size VAZ 2114).

Its indices mean the following:

  • 175 — width (in mm);
  • 70 - profile height in relation to width (in percent);
  • R13 is the size of the rim for which the tire is provided (in inches).

Knowing this, we begin our calculations: first we multiply 175 mm by 0.7 (that is, we find 70%), we get the profile height of our tire equal to 122.5 millimeters.

Then we convert the diameter of the wheel rim to mm. To do this, multiply 13 inches by 25.4. We get 330 mm.

The last step is to add up our two resulting sizes 122.5 + 330, we get 575 millimeters. This diameter is the standard wheel diameter for the 14 model. Thus, when selecting new tires, you should always carry out similar calculations.

If the resulting amount is equal to 575 mm, or is one or two millimeters more or less, then these tires can be installed. In the case when the result turns out to be much more or much less, then you will have to refuse to purchase such tires - they will either cling when rotating or a very large gap will form.

VAZ on 15 disks

Discs

Speaking about the possible size of VAZ 2114 wheels, it should be repeated once again that only R13 and R14 are recommended. Wheels with a diameter of 15 inches can be installed, but as a result, road handling may decrease and there may be possible maintenance problems.

If there is a very strong desire to install just such wheels, then it is better to pay close attention to such types of tires as 185/55 R15 and 195/50 R15 (however, in the latter case it is also worth checking whether such a tire is suitable in width Of course, you need to do this before purchasing).

We select the size of wheels for the VAZ 2114. What should you consider when choosing?

Beginner car enthusiasts are not always able to choose the right size of wheels for a VAZ 2114. And such an important part of the car requires constant attention, control and a competent approach. Modern designs are very reliable and quite durable. However, this unit contains pads that require periodic replacement. The duration of operation largely depends on driving style.

Another important factor is the correct selection of all components based on the compatibility of individual parts.

Recommendations from vehicle manufacturers and additional accessories must be taken into account. They are based on many years of experience and scientific developments.

Standard disks are supplied with the appropriate parts, which are best replaced with the same ones. As a last resort, you can use others, but only after consultation with a specialist.

The size of wheels for a VAZ 2114 is determined by the general needs of the car owner

. When choosing a disk, take into account, first of all, the diameter of the hub, which is 58.5 mm and the width, marked in inches and ranging from 5 to 6.5. The mounting bolt is standard M12 with a thread pitch of 1.25 mm. Structurally, there are three types of disks. Steel, cast and forged.

The former are included in the basic configuration of the machine and have good performance characteristics. Not expensive, but reliable and durable.

Alloy wheels:

Cast analogues are made from light alloy materials, mainly aluminum. They are lighter and look significantly better than factory parts. Their prices are higher. The complexity of production and the cost of the material from which they are made make them more expensive.

Forged wheels

But the most exclusive wheels are made using the forging method. Today this is the pinnacle of manufacturing technology for this car part. For forging, a workpiece made of light aluminum alloys is used. Powerful presses are used to form the desired part configuration. Then high-precision metal-cutting machines finish the discs to their final shape.

Forging strengthens the material

. and the resulting part is very reliable and strong. These are the kind of wheels that are used on racing cars. Their hardness indicators are 2-2.5 times higher than those of standard parts.

When installing disks of a new design, special attention is paid to the amount of offset. The symbol for this value shows the distance from the contact plane of the wheel to the conventional line of the middle of the rim

It is written as “ET” and measured in millimeters. The optimal offset is considered to be ET36. Naturally, the PCD, that is, the diameter of the circle on which the disk mounting holes are located, must meet factory requirements.

On VAZ 2113 -15 this value is usually 98 mm. In the accompanying documentation this is written as PCD = 4x98 mm

.

Optimal rim width ratio

.

  • 175/65R14 – wheel width 5.5J;
  • 185/60R14 — wheel width 6J;
  • 185/60R14 — wheel width 6J;
  • 185/55R15 — wheel width 6J;
  • 195/60R1 — rim width 6.5J.

You can replace the disks yourself

. For domestic car owners this is not a problem. However, one should not rely on ingenuity and resourcefulness if there is no experience. The brake and disc systems of any car do not tolerate amateurs, since the safety of the driver, passengers and other drivers is at stake.

It is better to periodically diagnose brakes using good equipment. And you can perform routine maintenance on replacing pads yourself. Moreover, you won’t have to do this often.

Discs last at least 40,000 km

. But taking good care of your own car can extend this period to 100,000 km. The size of wheels on a VAZ 2114 and their type, as you understand, is a purely personal matter, if the choice does not contradict the characteristics specified by the automaker. Therefore, take this into account when visiting an auto store.

Answers to frequently asked questions. Wheels for VAZ-2108-21099, 2113-2115. 14″ or 15″?

HELLO EVERYONE AND GOOD DAY!

In today’s post I wanted to answer frequently asked questions about choosing wheels for VAZ-2108, 2109, 21099, 2113, 2114, 2115. Which is better, 14″ or 15″?

This entry applies only to models of the ninth family (VAZ-2108, 2109, 21099, 2113, 2114, 2115). Based on personal experience using disks with a diameter of 14″ and 15″.

Very often people ask me what diameter of wheels is better to buy for the ninth family, 14″ or 15″ for daily comfortable use. Comfortable daily use refers to vehicle operation in city-highway mode and off-road driving. I won’t talk about disks with a diameter of 16″, 17″, 18″ here since they are not suitable for daily comfortable use.

I’ll start the story with 14″ diameter discs.

From personal experience, I used alloy wheels with a diameter of 14″, bolt pattern 4*98, offset 32. Tires Kama-224 185/60/14.

This configuration of wheel and tire parameters is considered optimal. Everything fits neatly and doesn’t rub anything anywhere. In operation, the car handles better than on 13″ diameter wheels and 175/70/13 tires. In terms of comfort, it is a little stiffer than on 13 wheels, but beauty requires sacrifice, but still comfort is at a good level. When the car is fully loaded, 5 people and a load in the trunk of 70 kg does not touch or rub anything. For winter you can use 175/65/14 tires.

The issue price is 14″ wheels. Let’s take as an example the new forged wheels SLIK diameter 14″ price 3850 per wheel 3850*4=15400 rubles. And new tires MICHELIN ENERGY XM2 185/60/14 price 2440 per tire 2240*4=9760 rubles. Total: 15400+9760=24160 rubles.

I also had a chance to ride on wheels with a diameter of 15″. Forged wheels Slik L186S 15″, Bridgestone Potenza RE002 Adrenalin tires - 195/50R15 82W.

Despite the beauty of the wheels and the reputation of the tires, the car on these wheels did not drive any better! Undoubtedly, all this looks beautiful, but there are plenty of disadvantages: 1. The car accelerates worse and is difficult to brake. 2. Rubber with a size of 195/50/15 rubs against the rear arch when the car is loaded (the solution is to roll out the arches or install 2-degree negative camber plates). There is no point in talking about installing 195/55/15 tires. 3. High cost (compared to 14 wheels, 15 is more expensive). 4. There is practically no comfort, everything is rigid, the suspension is difficult to cope with uneven roads, and there is also an increased load on the wheel bearings. 5. Tire fitting services are more expensive for 15 wheels. 6. Also, don’t forget about the brake system, the standard brakes are, firstly, 13″, and secondly, they are not ventilated, if you add low-quality brake pads, you can forget about good brakes on 15 wheels!

From personal experience of using 15″ diameter discs, I will say that you can move around the city, you don’t feel much discomfort since you don’t have time to get tired of them, but once you go out on the highway with a route of more than 250 km, upon return you get an unpleasant picture, you get tired of the road on such discs very quickly and it gets boring.

From history, having traveled to the city of Neftekamsk (a distance of 400 km one way), upon arrival 15, the wheels were removed from this car due to the impracticality of using them in my daily use.

The issue price is 15″ wheels. Let's take as an example the new forged wheels SLIK diameter 15″ price 4850 per wheel 4850*4=19400 rubles. And new tires MICHELIN ENERGY SAVER + 195/50/15 price 2899 per tire 2899*4=11596 rubles. Total: 19400+11596=30996 rubles.

Conclusion: from the data presented, I want to say that for optimal driving in the city and on the highway without reducing the level of comfort for cars of the ninth family, these are forged wheels with a diameter of 14″ with good tires. It is better to buy forged wheels with a diameter of 14″ than alloy wheels from an unknown manufacturer with a diameter of 15″. The difference between wheels with a diameter of 14″ and 15″ using the examples of identical wheels and tires is approximately 7,000 rubles. Plus, when installing wheels with a diameter of 15″, you will additionally have to cut the rear arches or install negative camber plates on the rear wheels. Let’s also not forget about safety - the standard brake system of the ninth family on 15 wheels works worse than on 13 wheels (for personal safety, modification of the brake system will be required). Installing wheels with a diameter of 15″ on cars of the ninth family is not profitable and causes discomfort to both the driver and passengers, and will also entail an increased price for wheels and tires compared to 14″ and more expensive maintenance and repairs.

PS In this post, we examined rims of 14″ and 15″ diameter based on personal experience in operating a city-highway vehicle. This entry does not apply to persons who drive cars exclusively around the city at a speed of no higher than 60 km/h, since in urban use at low speeds and with good quality roads, you can use wheels with a diameter of 18″ with a minimal profile.

Thank you all for your attention! Smooth roads!

How to choose disks by radius

Modern discs are available in various radii. This indicator has not only an aesthetic component, but is also responsible for the vehicle’s stability on the road, fuel consumption, etc.

That is why, when choosing the radius of wheels on a VAZ-2114, you should pay special attention to several aspects

The purchase of such disks is most often due to the need to quickly replace damaged old versions. Since the aesthetic component on such discs is not important, stamped steel discs are most often found. Their cost will not exceed 1.5 thousand rubles.

It is worth noting that such wheels may be supplied with caps that imitate cast wheels. When installing such caps, it is worth considering their ventilation, since in its absence the brake system may overheat.

You also need to be careful when selecting tires, since with a profile of more than 65 mm, they begin to touch the wheel arches and wheel arches of the car.

This radius is the most popular when replacing old or factory wheels. This level of demand is justified by the price-quality ratio, as well as the aesthetic component. When choosing, you need to start from the size recommended by the manufacturer: 5.5J x 15 ET45; 6.0J x 15 ET45; 6.5J x 15 ET45. The maximum width of VAZ-2114 tires on 15 rims can be 205 mm.

Before purchasing such a large radius of discs, it is worth knowing a few truths. The service life of VAZ-2114 parts will decrease much faster, and dynamics and maneuverability will decrease due to the too large mass of the disk. Thus, you will have to sacrifice many comfort indicators due to the appearance of the car.

So, on the VAZ-2114, the ideal solution would be to install rims with a radius of R13-R15.

As a result, it should be said that there are quite a lot of varieties of sizes and wheel options for the VAZ-2114. Each car owner will be able to choose wheels that will fully meet his requirements and preferences.

When choosing the radius of the disks, it is necessary to start from the location where the vehicle will be used. For example, from an aesthetic point of view, the best choice would be radii R15-R17, but in this case the dynamics of the car will be significantly reduced.

Factory standard options

Which brake discs are better?
On the VAZ conveyor, stampings with a diameter of 13 inches (1 inch is 2.5 centimeters) are installed on the VAZ 2114 model. Tires installed, as a rule, are not expensive, with a high profile.

For tuning enthusiasts, there is a lot to work on with such a basic option, because there is room to change the diameters of the rims and the height of the tire profile. One of the options for tuning a VAZ 2114 is to install wheels with the most suitable wheel diameter and minimum tire profile height.

On the VAZ 2114 you can install wheels with a diameter of 15″,

but you will have to install low-profile tires and you can install 14″ (14 inch) wheels and a tire width from 5″ to 6″. This is clearly written in the LADA VAZ 2114 passport.

What tires can be installed on 14″ wheels?

For such wheels, only two tire markings are suitable:

  1. 185/60 R14. This size is preferable.
  2. 175/65 R14.

Replacing standard wheels provided by the manufacturer with 15-inch ones may prevent you from passing technical inspection. Because the car's passport states that it is not recommended to install wide wheels on this car. This is what a four looks like with 15 wheels.

Varieties

Selecting new wheels for a VAZ 2114 is not an easy task.

When choosing them, it is important to take into account a number of parameters, plus combine them with personal preferences. As for the sizes, the emphasis should be on the diameter of the hub (58.5 millimeters) and its width (5-6.5 inches)

For fastening, standard M12 bolts are used, the thread pitch of which is 1.25 millimeters.

As for the dimensions, the emphasis should be on the diameter of the hub (58.5 millimeters) and its width (5-6.5 inches). For fastening, standard M12 bolts are used, the thread pitch of which is 1.25 millimeters.

As with most other cars, the VAZ 2114 is offered on the market:

  • Steel (stamped);
  • Light alloy (divided into forged and cast).

Stamped

Steel wheels are very common. Not surprising, because all “fourteenth” models are equipped as standard with exactly these types of “rollers”. However, they are popular not only because of this. These wheels are cheap, but at the same time reliable and durable.

When impacted, they do not shatter into pieces, unlike some other disc materials. They just get deformed. Such deformations are sometimes removed manually, although the best option is to use special equipment.

But they also have disadvantages, including:

  • Large mass, which negatively affects control, fuel consumption and tire wear;
  • Weight also affects the chassis and transmission;
  • Steel ones extremely rarely have an attractive appearance, which is one of the main reasons for replacing them with analogues.

Cast

Many car owners prefer to use alloy wheels on the VAZ 2114. This is due to a number of advantages that they carry.

  1. They have less weight compared to stamped analogues.
  2. Helps extend the service life of vehicle components and components.
  3. Have a positive effect on reducing fuel consumption.
  4. Cools the brake system more effectively.
  5. They have a wide range of different designs that can become a real decoration for the entire car. It is enough to put the casting on the car and it will instantly transform. A simple but effective way of external tuning.

As for the disadvantages, they also exist:

  • Alloy wheels do not bend under strong impacts, as happens with stamped rollers. The situation is worse - a split is occurring. This leads to increased danger during accidents and high-speed movements;
  • The side surfaces begin to oxidize over time. This requires increased attention and periodic maintenance;
  • The cost of alloy wheels is noticeably higher than the price of steel counterparts.

Forged

Forged wheels, which are gaining popularity, are also perfect for the domestic modernized “nine” represented by the VAZ 2114.

Strengths include:

  1. High level of strength that matches stamped discs and even exceeds them in some places;
  2. Lightweight design, which is not inferior to alloy wheels;
  3. External attractiveness of forged products;
  4. High levels of rigidity and reliability. With strong impacts they bend a little, even less than steel ones;
  5. The surface is not very susceptible to corrosion, so you don’t have to care for them as carefully as cast ones.

The only drawback of forged kits is their high price. If your budget allows, and such a purchase is really justified, put your VAZ 2114 on forged wheels.

Forged

VAZ-2114 bolt pattern: selecting wheel rims

For several years in a row, forged wheels have been in constant demand. Their dimensions are perfect for a modified VAZ 2114.

Advantages

Several advantages can be highlighted:

  • Very high strength. They are superior to stampings in all respects.
  • Light weight, approximately equal to the weight of light alloy models.
  • External attractiveness.
  • They are characterized by high rigidity. They are considered very reliable, with a sensitive blow they only bend a little. Moreover, steel products are deformed much more strongly.

Forged wheels never rust. They do not require careful maintenance like their cast counterparts.

What kind of drilling is on the VAZ-2114

One of the main parameters that you should pay attention to when replacing standard wheels on a VAZ-2114 car is the dimensions, location and diameters of the mounting holes, PCD, pitch circle diameter, or in simple terms, drilling or bolt pattern

Bolt pattern on a VAZ-2114 wheel

Drilling for all VAZ cars (except Oka and Niva) - 4x98, four holes, the centers of which are located at a distance of 98 mm from each other.

However, this is a simplified designation for the user. The disc manufacturer is required to take into account both the diameter of the holes, their number, the distance between their centers, and the diameter along which the centers of the holes are located. Such a designation would complicate the selection of disks by the user, so knowing drilling in the “number of holes/distance between them” format is considered sufficient.

A few more wheel parameters

The drill bit can be measured using the spare wheel. In all SAMARA drilling 4*98

There are several more parameters that relate to the original VAZ-2114 rims - the width of the stock rim is 5.0J, the offset of the ET45 rim, the diameter of the centering hole at the hub is 58.5.

Causes and consequences of damage

Driving on poor quality roads in Russia forces car owners to look for a new windshield at least once every year and a half. Even a very small pebble flying from under the wheels of a car can lead to damage to the part.

There are two types of damage:

  1. Chips. If only a chip appears on the surface, the driver is lucky. This means that the first layer is damaged; it is not necessary to install a new spare part.
  2. Cracks. You can't hesitate. At any moment, glass can crumble into pieces due to a hole in the road, and this will lead to an accident.

What can you do

If the driver fails to change it in time, there are several popular tips:

  1. Using a glass cutter, make perpendicular cuts 0.5 cm long along the edges of the “web”.
  2. Drill small holes with a thin diamond drill bit. The work requires accuracy, patience and attention.
  3. “Weld” the crack. It's better to contact specialists. Without experience it will be difficult.

Installation

When installing disks of a new design, special attention is paid to the amount of offset. The symbol for this value shows the distance from the contact plane of the wheel to the conventional line of the middle of the rim

It is written as “ET” and measured in millimeters. The optimal offset is considered to be ET36. Naturally, the PCD, that is, the diameter of the circle on which the disk mounting holes are located, must meet factory requirements.

On VAZ 2113 -15 this value is usually 98 mm. In the accompanying documentation this is written as PCD = 4x98 mm

.

  • 185/55R15 — wheel width 6J;
  • 195/60R1 — rim width 6.5J.

Popular options

Most passenger vehicles ride on rims measuring 13-16 inches. Today, installing low-profile tires has become very popular.

According to drivers, it improves car handling. It can be safely installed on a VAZ 2114. Therefore, it is not surprising that there are cars with 14-15-inch wheels on the roads.

When carrying out sports tuning, more modern brake mechanisms are installed. Their overall dimensions are slightly larger than standard parts, so it becomes impossible to install factory wheels back.

It is for this reason that R15 wheels are installed on the car. A conventional design with this diameter will have a width in the range of 3.5 - 7 inches. If this is a sports modification, it can reach up to 13 inches.

When choosing a rim for a specific tire, you must remember that its width should be 20% less than the tire profile.

How to install a 4x100 disk on a VAZ-2114

Most older foreign cars have a 4x100 drill. This makes it possible to diversify the choice of disks almost indefinitely. However, we must take into account that simply installing, without modifications, 4x100 wheels on a 4x98 seat will not lead to anything good. The fact is that the tolerance in the manufacture of the disk does not exceed 0.7-1 mm. That is, it is theoretically possible to put on a disk with a 4x100 fit, but this will lead to the fact that only one bolt out of four will fit exactly on the cone. The remaining fasteners simply will not tighten all the way and, as a result, the disk will sit with a distortion that is almost impossible to check by eye.

Disc with bolt pattern 4*100

Systematic runout can not only lead to the fact that the only bolt that is tightened correctly will quickly become loose, but also to instant wear of the wheel bearing, and the remaining bolts will loosen on their own. There is a way out of this situation.

Disc runout leads to rapid wear of the wheel bearing

A less reliable option is to install bolts with an offset head. A not entirely correct option is to install studs, for example, from the cylinder head and nuts from Niva, but the studs are not designed for torsional force, so the most reliable option would be to install spacers. You can carve them yourself or buy them ready-made.

But here you need to take into account several nuances:

  1. The width of the spacer must be at least 20 mm, since only in this case we will ensure proper thread strength.
  2. In this case, the offset of the disk will increase by the same 20 mm, which must be taken into account when selecting a disk.
  3. In this case, the disc must be selected with a minimum offset in order to remove the load from the hub and somehow compensate for the difference in offset.

Trunk volume of VAZ-2114: dimensions and exact parameters

VAZ-2114 is a car that replaced the discontinued “Nine”, and immediately gained popularity and became in demand. Compared to its predecessor, this car model has several differences. The differences affected not only the external parts of the body, but also the interior. In particular, the VAZ-2114 has a large trunk volume. Door sill trims, moldings along the sides, a spoiler with a brake light - all this gives the car a modern appearance.

External changes affected the performance characteristics of the machine. In particular, this model has excellent aerodynamic qualities. It is stable on the road, even when driving at high speed. The combination of body colors and attached parts gives this car the appearance of a foreign car.

Thanks to its appearance, this car has aroused increased interest among people who are involved in tuning. At relatively low financial costs, such a car can easily be made into an original car that stands out from the crowd, thereby emphasizing the individuality and sense of style of its owner.

Trunk

Due to the ability to fold the rear seat, this car can easily be transformed into a utility vehicle. For this car model, the trunk volume is:

  • 330 dm3 with seats folded down;
  • 600 dm3 with rear seats folded.

The volume in liters is the same as in cubes (cubic decimeters).

This capacity of the machine allows it to transport even large cargo, which is especially important for those who often face the need to deliver any goods or cargo for other purposes to the unloading point. With the seats folded down, the trunk volume almost doubles.

In addition, if you need to transport a large amount of cargo, or, for example, you are going on a trip with the whole family, you do not have to be limited to 330 liters of space for storing things. Various fastenings and installations are available for sale for this car model, which allow you to transport much more things than will fit in the luggage compartment.

For example, you can install a roof rack. Various options for such mounts are available for sale:

  1. Autoboxes.
  2. Fastenings for sports equipment.
  3. Baskets.
  4. Expeditionary roof racks.

Thus, you will be able to make your car even more spacious and free up space for passengers.

Button control

It is very convenient when control (trunk opening) is carried out from a button

Every car owner knows that it is very important to ensure that the trunk, like the car doors, closes securely. Reliable operation of trunk locks is just as important as the reliability of the lock on a garage or apartment door.

All modern car models are equipped with a trunk opening mechanism using a control panel or a special button. Installing a mechanism with a button not only makes control more convenient, but also solves a number of problems. In particular, this solves the problem of icing of the lock, which is opened with a key.

The installation of such a mechanism can be entrusted to a specialist. But some car owners prefer to do this work themselves. To do this, you will need a steel cable, a roller, a connection button, a trunk drive solenoid and wires. The roller is installed on the wiper gear housing. If the roller is open, you can use braided cable. The easiest way to connect is to the cigarette lighter. Other options require appropriate knowledge of electrical circuits.

What tires can be installed?

On wheels recommended by the manufacturer, tires should be installed with the following dimensions:

  • 165/70 R13;
  • 175/70 R13

The expression “thirteenth radius wheels” or something similar is widespread. This expression is completely meaningless, since 13 is not a radius, but a diameter of 13 inches. Users are confused by the letter R. They believe that this is a radius, although in fact it is a designation of the type of tire. For bias-ply tires there will be a letter D. This type of tire is practically not produced and is extremely rare.

A narrower tire with a profile width of 160 or 155 does not guarantee a reliable fit on the hump, will have a strong curvature of the sidewall and, as a result, will be dangerous to ride on. The same goes for wider tires.

You can install tires with a large width only if the VAZ 2114 wheel size is larger.

What tires are suitable?

The wheel sizes on the VAZ 2114 must correspond to the tire sizes. There is an exact match between wheel and tire sizes:

The minimum and maximum widths of the profiles are indicated. In this case, the profile height can be chosen according to your own preferences. It should be borne in mind that the higher the profile, the worse the car’s handling, but the reliability increases when driving on uneven roads. The low profile makes for sharper handling, but there is a risk of damage to the tires or rims if you hit a bump or fall into a pothole.

Many wheel samples are produced for VAZ 2115 cars. When choosing, you should take into account their size and the required design. It is necessary that they approach this model, and not just evaluate the product by appearance

In this case, it is especially important that the sizes of all components are not combined with each other. This will ensure long service life of the disks even under intensive use.

Most often, VAZ 2115 cars are equipped with wheels whose size is R13 and R14 inches. Low-profile models are considered the most stylish solution. In addition, most owners of this brand of car believe that the car handles better with such discs. Therefore, many owners prefer to abandon the R13 diameter in favor of R14 and even R15. However, such a replacement should only be carried out during sports tuning, which includes replacing the brake system. Otherwise, the low profile will not allow the use of standard wheels.

When installing, you should familiarize yourself with the technical characteristics of the car. The manufacturer indicates which tires to use and its sizes. If you deviate from these parameters, the car will behave poorly on the road, the braking distance will increase, the turning radius and fuel consumption will increase.

When choosing a specific disk model, various parameters should be taken into account, including the number of mounting holes that must correspond to the hub. And the diameter of the central hole on the rim should be 0.1 mm larger than the size of the hub. Additionally, you should consider the body shape: station wagon, sedan or hatchback. Almost any type of disc can be installed on a VAZ 2115 car, but they must comply with the parameters specified in the service book.

I think it will be useful

The wheels on the VAZ 2114 have a standard size of a relatively small radius - thirteen inches, while the rubber profile is quite high.
This makes the appearance of the car not the most attractive. Therefore, many people think about changing wheels, taking rims with a larger diameter and tires with a lower profile. In this article, we will try to figure out whether it is possible to install wheels of fourteenth and fifteenth diameters on a car without compromising its driving performance. General information about wheels on the VAZ 2114

Firstly, we can say with confidence that fourteenth radius wheels can be installed on a VAZ 2114 car; this is directly stated in the car’s service book. At the same time, it is very important that the width of the rim lies between five and six inches, the offset of the rims is from thirty-five to forty millimeters. The material from which the disk is made does not matter; what is much more important is the size of the mounting holes - ninety-eight millimeters, and the size of the central hole - fifty-eight and a half millimeters. But there is one trick here: if we take a wheel diameter larger than the standard one, the height of the rubber profile must be reduced by approximately the same amount. Otherwise, when turning, the wheels will touch the suspension and wheel arch liners.

How to correctly calculate wheel parameters?

The wheels on the VAZ 2114 are the size that is suitable for the VAZ 2114 car, when installing rims of fourteenth diameter, the following tires are allowed: 175/65 R14 and 185/60 R14. It is worth noting that the second option is more preferable. But there are different cases and options, so it’s worth understanding how to independently calculate whether the tires are suitable or not. This, for example, is important when installing 15-radius wheels. So, in order to understand the mechanics of calculations, first let’s look at the rubber markings, or more precisely, what each number and symbol means. For example, let's take a standard VAZ 2114 tire: 175/70 R13. 175 is the width of the tire. The unit of measurement is millimeters. 70 – the height of the tire profile relative to its width. The unit of measurement is percentage. In our case, the following value is obtained: 175 * 0.7 = 122.5 millimeters. R13 = indicates that this tire is designed for a thirteenth wheel diameter. Now let’s calculate the total diameter of the wheel, which is the sum of the tire profile height in millimeters and the wheel rim diameter in millimeters. First, let's convert inches to millimeters: 13 * 25.4 = 330 millimeters. Next, we calculate the total radius of the wheel: 330 + 122.5 * 2 = 575 millimeters. We received a standard value for the total wheel diameter. Now you just need to calculate the diameter for each wheel rim plus tire option and select the appropriate combination. A difference of no more than two millimeters is allowed, otherwise there will be either too much gap or the wheel will catch. In conclusion, I would like to note that fifteen-radius wheels have a pair with a fairly low tire profile, but problems may arise with passing the annual technical inspection of the car, since such a large wheel radius is not directly recommended by the VAZ 2114 manufacturer. But if you If you still decide to take such a step, you should pay attention to car tires marked 195/50 R15 and 185/55 R15. It is worth noting that in the first case, if possible, it is better to double-check whether the wheel will fit before buying a set of tires. The problem in this case may not be the height of the wheel, but its width.

What sizes of wheels and tires are suitable for VAZ 2109 and VAZ 2110

Many owners of Nines and Tens would probably like to purchase alloy wheels for their VAZs. Indeed, this type of external tuning is the least expensive and can be easily done even with your own hands. Alloy wheels on the VAZ 2109 and VAZ 2110, without problems or any negative consequences for the car, can be installed in three sizes: R13, R14 and R15.

You can, of course, try to fit “rollers” with a larger diameter, but at the same time you cannot avoid serious alterations in the design of the car, which will additionally cost the car owner a “tidy” sum.

At the end of this article you will find a table with the sizes of tires and alloy wheels that can be installed on VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099, 2110 cars.

It is also worth paying attention to our visual tire calculator. Below we have described the main advantages and disadvantages of various combinations of tires and rims for VAZ 2109 and VAZ 2110 cars (and their modifications), which can be installed without any modifications to the car

Should I choose stamped or cast wheels?

All types of wheel rims have their advantages and disadvantages:

If you plan to drive exclusively on smooth asphalt, then the best option is alloy wheels, which in appearance are practically no different from forged ones. When traveling over rough terrain, you should choose stamped wheels, since nicks can be removed on the road using an ordinary hammer. In addition, the VAZ 2114 on stamped R13 wheels looks quite stylish. Many car owners prefer swamp stamps.

What discs are best to buy?

Now let's consider the following question - which wheels are suitable for the VAZ 2114. The answer to it has already been partially given above - wheels with radii of 13, 14 and 15 inches can be installed on this model.

As for the materials from which they can be made, the most common options are:

  • stamped;
  • cast;
  • forged.

The first discs are the cheapest, made from steel sheet using the stamping method (as is clear from the name). Their advantages include low price, very long service life, high reliability (they do not burst upon a sharp impact, but can only become deformed), and maintainability.

True, despite all this, many car enthusiasts try to purchase wheels of other types. This is due to the very high weight of the stamped “rollers” - it has a very negative effect on tire wear, fuel consumption, the overall handling of the vehicle, and also produces excessive load on the chassis. In addition, stamped wheels often look unsightly and are practically unsuitable for tuning.

Stamped discs

The second option is discs made by casting.

They have the following advantages:

  • small weight;
  • have a positive effect on reducing fuel consumption;
  • have a positive effect on the wear resistance of machine components;
  • have a positive effect on less tire wear;
  • better cooling of the braking system;
  • They come in a wide variety of shapes and styles, making them an ideal option for upgrading your favorite car.

Alloy wheels

True, they also have two serious drawbacks - a rather high price and greater fragility when impacted (in the event of a strong collision with an obstacle, they can simply crack, which makes them less safe than other types of disks).

Forged wheels

The last option is forged wheels. They combine all the positive aspects of stamped and cast wheels, and have only one drawback - a very high price (which is significantly higher than that of cast wheels). True, if it is possible to install them on your car, then they will become the best option of all possible and will last for many years.

Types of rims

Having figured out what the bolt pattern of VAZ 2114 discs is and how to compensate for it when using discs with a different type of drilling, let’s now talk about the discs themselves.

Currently, you can find 3 main varieties of them on sale, namely:

  • steel wheels;
  • alloy wheels;
  • forged wheels.

Steel wheels come as a standard factory option on all VAZ cars. They are characterized by low cost and, at the same time, good reliability and durability. In addition, in the event of an accident they are deformed without destruction, which in most cases allows them to be straightened and used again.

VAZ 2114 wheels

Cast wheels are made from aluminum alloys and due to this, as well as the overall complexity of their production, cost significantly more. At the same time, they are distinguished by a variety of shapes and options, due to which they are in high demand among those who like to tune their car (another important advantage is their low weight compared to stamped steel wheels).

True, they also have their disadvantages, the main one of which is their non-repairability. Due to its great hardness, in the event of an accident the cast disk does not collapse, but simply bursts, sometimes splitting into several parts. This is not only economically unprofitable, but also dangerous (for example, if a disc spontaneously breaks when driving on an uneven road).

Forged wheels combine all the advantages of steel and cast wheels, but without their disadvantages. They are made from aluminum alloys that undergo forging and pressing with further machine processing. This production scheme makes it possible to increase the strength of forged wheels up to 3.5 times compared to cast ones.

Concluding the conversation, it is worth saying once again that safety is a much more important thing than the attractive appearance of the car. That is why the installation of wheel rims should be approached extremely carefully and taking into account all the above recommendations.

Features of wheel sizes for the most popular VAZ models

Among several dozen VAZ modifications, the most popular models over the entire 50 years were only 2 of them, as can be judged by the number of copies sold. The wheel sizes for these cars had the following parameters, which varied depending on the year of manufacture, technical equipment and equipment of the car:

VAZ is the latest modification of the “classic”, produced on the plant’s conveyors for 30 years: from 1982 to 2012. During this time, it never changed its appearance, and the disc bolt pattern was the same - 4x98 with a central hole diameter of 58.6 mm.

The width of the rim varied slightly depending on the model year.

If in 1982 the plant produced models with tire dimensions ranging from 5J to 5.5J, then at the end of production the concern increased the permissible size to 6J.

The radius of the wheels invariably varied from R13 to R15, which made it possible to alternate them by season, periodically changing the side profile of the tire, or immediately use all-season tires with a diameter of R14.

The VAZ 2107 tire size invariably consisted of only 3 main parameters - 175/70/R13, 185/60/R14 and 185/55/R15. The last of the listed parameters was actively in demand among lovers of fast driving on smooth city roads.

On a note.

As for the R13 rubber, it allowed the driver to feel as comfortable as possible when driving over rough terrain, as well as in winter, when the high cord profile took part in adhesion to the road surface. But the most popular parameter remained the universal size R14 and the largest number of tires were sold in this dimension.

If we look at the concern’s earlier cars, we can see that the wheelbase of the Zhiguli has remained virtually unchanged for more than 40 years. This leads to moral backwardness of the technical equipment of the plant's products. At the same time, the lack of new developments greatly reduces both the speed of release from the assembly line and the cost of engineering equipment, which leads to a very attractive retail price for the vehicle.

VAZ 2114. Produced in a smaller range - from 2001 to 2013. The car was just a restyled modification of the classic “nine”. The legacy of the outdated model did not affect the high popularity of this Lada, and all the wheels that were installed on hubs in the basic version had the same traditional bolt pattern 4x98, DIA 58.6 mm.

European standard bolt pattern 4x100 for Lada X-Ray

Like the bolt pattern of the VAZ 2114, the width of the wheel rims was not much different from the “seven” and fluctuated between 5J – 6J for the entire production period. As for radius, the concern has completely eliminated the 15-inch diameter from the factory equipment, without prohibiting drivers from installing this parameter as an option. The bolt pattern of VAZ 2114 wheels in the current size also made it possible to install standard 4x100 wheels in accordance with the sizes usual for Europe.

Not a single Lada model has ever looked aggressive; the hallmark of the product was practicality and reliability in operation. The concern did not use extreme overhang indicators, and the wheels were always hidden under the body arches. The average ET limit values for both VAZ 2107 and 2114 were ET25...35 mm, and deviations from this characteristic obligated drivers to install additional mudguards on the side parts of the body and change the design of the hubs, making them more durable to avoid deformations.

Important!

The bolt pattern of the VAZ 2114 wheels, as well as all other dimensions of the hub and disks, were used on the brand’s followers - Kalina and Priora. With the arrival of new management at the domestic concern, this parameter ceased to exist altogether, since the plant had a new orientation to the West and possible import of products to the nearest CIS countries.

Classification of disks by manufacturing method

Wheels for VAZ 2114 cars can be manufactured using different technologies, so before purchasing it is important to consider all the options available:

Stamped. This is the most common option, which combines various technical and practical features. Low cost combined with high quality are the main advantages that made the products popular in the automotive market for the VAZ 2114.

Among the advantages of stamped discs, we can highlight such qualities that have become the basis for the development of wide consumer interest: due to their softness, such discs are smoothly deformed, so the driver will not encounter unexpected cracking of the disc while driving; Considering that the discs do not burst, but bend, they can be easily restored.

Cast. You can even more often find cars on die-cast ones, since they are the personification of durability, reliability, quality and attractiveness. But you will have to spend a lot of money on such a model, since, taking into account the peculiarities of the technological process, the cost increases significantly.

The high cost makes such wheels not affordable for every buyer, but you can count on the following positive aspects: low weight, which makes the car easier to drive;

fuel consumption is slightly reduced; there is a large assortment of shapes to choose the most attractive option; The integrity of the tire is preserved, as it is protected from negative external influences.

Forged. Such discs are created by mechanical forging, so they have a solid structure. As a rule, these are white models with characteristic stylistic features.

Photos and technical characteristics of each option are an opportunity to choose the most attractive and high-quality type for equipping your vehicle.

VAZ 2107 tires: features of operation and storage

Safety on the road directly depends on the condition of the wheels of the “Seven”. Therefore, you need to take a responsible approach to the choice of wheels and tires, monitor the condition of the tread and tire pressure. To do this, you need to know the parameters of the wheels, the nominal tire pressure, and the type of tread suitable for specific weather conditions.

Bolt pattern VAZ 2107

The first thing you need to pay attention to when installing wheels is the bolt pattern of the VAZ 2107. The design of the “seven” provides for the bolt pattern of the wheels “98x4” - fastening with four bolts, the holes of which are located on a circle with a diameter of 98 millimeters

Many foreign cars have a close bolt pattern - 100x4. In the first case, the distance between the centers of the bolts is 69.3 mm, in the second - 70.7 mm.

An error of 1.4 mm does not make it possible to properly fasten a “non-original” disk, which over time will lead to damage to the disk, bolts or mounting holes.

There are ways to attach 100x4 wheels to a VAZ 2107 using studs, eccentrics, spacers or extended bolts. But all of them either worsen the reliability of fastening or complicate it unnecessarily. Unless absolutely necessary, it is better to install “native” disks. Improper wheel mounting can cause imbalance and vibration, and in the worst case, a wheel falling off while driving can cause an accident.

Tire pressure VAZ 2107

The nominal tire pressure depends on the type of tire and the load on the vehicle. If the wheels are overinflated or low, the contact patch between the tire and the road changes. This causes deterioration in controllability and an increase in braking distance. In addition, uneven accelerated wear of the tread begins. Over-inflated tires increase wear on the center of the tire, while under-inflated tires increase wear on the edges.

It is recommended to check tire pressure after 500 km, but in practice it is better to do this more often. Small tire punctures, disc and spool defects cause air to escape from individual tires. In this case, the car may drift off course, especially when braking.

The nominal pressure in VAZ 2107 tires depends on the tire size:

  • 165/80R13 - 1.6 for front, 1.9 for rear wheels;
  • 175/70R13 - 1.7 for front, 2.0 for rear wheels.

In hot weather and when driving, tire pressure increases. With an aggressive driving style, taking sharp turns at high speed, the pressure can increase to 3-4 atmospheres.

The tire material is designed for this and can withstand such changes. But if there is a hernia or cut on the tire, it may explode.

A front tire explosion is especially dangerous, after which it is very difficult to keep the car on the road.

As pressure decreases, rolling resistance increases, which leads to increased fuel consumption. The tire also bends and the car becomes less responsive when maneuvering.

If the tire pressure is too low, the tires may even fall apart when cornering sharply.

Tire selection and storage

  • The tire type must be appropriate for the season and road surface conditions. When the average daily temperature is below 5 degrees, you should switch to winter tires, and when it is warmer, to summer tires.
  • Summer tires harden at low temperatures and lose grip on the road surface. Winter ones wear out intensively at high temperatures.
  • You should not buy studded winter tires if you have to drive on city streets cleared of snow without leaving the city. The studs are good on snow and mud, but do not perform well on asphalt.
  • Before storage, tires must be cleaned of dirt and washed.
  • Tires should be stored upright on the floor or rack without any sharp edges that could damage the rubber.
  • It is unacceptable to store tires hanging from the inner surface - in this position, the edge of the tire adjacent to the rim will be deformed.
  • Do not store tires in direct sunlight or outdoors.
  • It is unacceptable to place heating devices near tires.

Tire storage conditions

Tires, like other significant items, require a special way of storage and use. Car tires that have completed their season should be stored at the same temperature and with a certain number of atmospheres inside.

Before removing tires for storage, it is worth making a mark that will let you know where each tire was located. Next, you should wash each wheel to avoid disc rotting. You also need to remove stones from the tread, after which it is advisable to treat the tires with a special chemical used for preservation.

During processing, you cannot use rubber color restoration agents or solvents; they will only harm the preservation. This process should be treated carefully in order to avoid premature aging of the tire. The use of plastic bags is everyone’s business; the main thing is not to tie the bag tightly so that condensation does not accumulate.

Tires on rims should be stored hanging or on top of each other; tires without rims should be placed vertically. If treated properly, tires will last you a long time and save your budget.

Alloy wheels for fourteen

The production of cast wheels, as their name implies, is based on the use of casting metal alloys into special prepared molds. Engineers use an alloy of aluminum and magnesium as the starting material. It does not rust, does not rot, and is lighter than steel. Let us briefly touch upon the issue of mass. Many are convinced that cast wheels are much lighter than stamped ones. This is partly true, but there are nuances.

Alloy wheels come in a variety of shapes

The fact is that the alloy of aluminum and magnesium is light, but fragile. Therefore, when in the 90s of the last century the first such samples began to appear in the vastness of our country, soon many car owners were faced with a situation where, when driving on domestic roads with a large number of holes, they simply cracked. Manufacturers drew the appropriate conclusions and simply increased the amount of alloy used to produce each disc, thus increasing their mechanical strength. However, this affected the mass, increasing it. Therefore, today the difference in weight between four stamped and alloy wheels is only 10.12 kg. Thus, one should not expect a significant increase in dynamic indicators.

Next, let's look at the advantages of 14-inch alloy wheels on a VAZ:

  • Beauty and style. Nowadays you can buy alloy wheels in a variety of shapes.
  • Reduced weight. As described above, the difference is small, but it is there. This factor ensures less load on the suspension, faster recovery of the trajectory at speed (less inertia, which has a positive effect on the car’s handling at speed), lower fuel consumption, and less wear on the brake pads.
  • Easier balancing. Typically, alloy wheels themselves are stiffer, so they hold their shape better.

But if there are positive aspects, then there must be negative ones. These include:

  • Because. Since alloy wheels do not bend, but crack, they cannot be driven at high speed on bad roads. Unfortunately, for our country this parameter is critical. Especially if you use budget drives.
  • Unsuitable for repair. In some cases, alloy disks are soldered, but in any case, after such a procedure, their mechanical strength will be lower than the original one.
  • When hitting a bump on the road, they transfer its energy to the suspension, which is harmful to its components and the system as a whole.
  • Servicing alloy wheels is more expensive, since the procedure itself for removing and installing rubber costs more. In addition, balancing weights are also more expensive.
  • Alloy wheels are used on light and medium-duty vehicles. So, they are never used on trucks. This is due to their fragility.

Next, as promised, we will draw conclusions whether it is worth using alloy wheels on a VAZ of 14 diameters or whether you can get by with standard stamped ones.

Stamped wheels 14th radius

Classic stamped wheels for VAZ

Any stamped wheel disk consists of two parts - the disk itself, which is made of sheet steel from a special reinforcing profile, and also the rim. These two parts are connected using spot welding. Next, the metal surface is rubbed, polished, paint and a protective coating (enamel and varnish) are applied.

Looking ahead, let's say that one of the main advantages of stamped rims is the ability to repair them. In particular, rolling. This procedure is performed at a service station using special equipment. In addition, the owner of a car with stamped wheels must remember that they require regular care and monitoring of their condition. In particular, it is necessary to constantly monitor the absence of chips on their surface, the absence of rust and other mechanical damage. If they are found, carry out repair work as soon as possible!

Manufacturers of steel rims

There are several trusted manufacturers of stamped wheel rims for VAZ cars. Among them:

  • EuroDisk. Discs under this brand are produced by EurasiaTAPO-Disk CJSC (Fergana, Uzbekistan). This is an Uzbek-English enterprise, based on the former Tashkent Aviation Production Association named after. V. P. Chkalova (TAPO). The production volume of the enterprise is about 1 million wheels per year.
  • KFZ. Discs of this brand are produced at enterprises that are part of the ALCAR production group. The high quality of the discs is confirmed by the fact that they are supplied to the world's largest automakers. In particular, Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Jeep, Citroen, Daewoo, Dacia, Daihatsu, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Iveco, Jaguar, Kia, Lancia, Landrover, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Mercedes- Benz, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot, Renault, Rover, Saab, Seat, Skoda, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo.
  • Mefro. The company's production facilities are located in Germany and South Korea. Discs released under this brand are of high quality. This is confirmed by statistics - the company produces more than 22 million discs per year. Their advantages are the absence of radial runout, the ability to withstand a side impact while maintaining pressure in a tubeless tire, and the presence of a protective layer of zinc and aluminum powder on the surface. The only indirect disadvantage is the fact that there are currently a large number of fakes on the market.
  • VAZ. They also produce wheels for their cars directly at the plant itself. They belong to the middle and lower price category with mediocre quality of the products themselves.
  • KrKZ (“Kremenchug Wheel Plant”, Ukraine, Kremenchug). It produces cold-formed steel wheels and wheels for cars and agricultural machinery. The products are of high quality and low price.

When choosing a particular manufacturer, you need to proceed from the ratio of quality and price. Naturally, European manufacturers sell their products at a slightly higher price, but their quality is also better. With domestic discs it's the other way around. But when buying imported goods, there is always a risk of purchasing a fake. This is especially true for discs in the high price category. Therefore, buy products only from trusted and certified stores.

Advantages and disadvantages of stamping

The manufacturing technology described above implies that 14-radius wheels on a VAZ have the following advantages:

  • low price (about 20% cheaper than cast ones);
  • ease of manufacture;
  • possibility of repair;
  • in the event of a significant impact, the disc is not destroyed, but only deformed, which significantly increases the safety of the car when driving at high speed;
  • the stamped wheel absorbs most of the impact, thus protecting the suspension and steering system;
  • use of standard mounting bolts (alloy wheels often use individual elements).

However, stamped wheels are not without their drawbacks. These include:

The appearance of the discs is hidden behind the caps

  • unsightly appearance (stamped discs are often covered with various decorative caps);
  • greater mass than alloy wheels, which affects the dynamic characteristics of the car and also places additional load on the car’s suspension;
  • discs are susceptible to corrosion, which reduces their strength and service life;
  • difficult balancing due to the fact that they “walk” along the axis;
  • stamped wheels hold the road worse at speeds of 80-90 km/h and above, which is caused by their greater mass and, accordingly, inertia.

However, the balance of advantages and disadvantages of stamped discs is still shifted in a positive direction. They are very common in the domestic and foreign automotive industry. Especially among commercial and budget vehicles. We will move on to comparing stamped and cast wheels at the end of the next section, after we look at cast wheels.

On domestic VAZs of the Samara family (VAZ models from 2108 to 2112), you can install not only standard 13-inch wheels, but also their analogues of increased diameter (14 and 15 inches). However, when making such a decision, it is necessary to take into account several nuances - manufacturer tolerances, the use of low-profile tires, stem dimensions, and others. In addition, you need to make a choice in favor of stamped (steel) or cast (alloy) wheels. We will tell you in detail about all the details of the choice.

Is it worth using alloy wheels on a 14-inch VAZ?

Small disc ensures a comfortable ride

Let's start by discussing diameter. In this regard, it is worth saying the most important thing - the smaller the disc diameter among those allowed by the automaker, the more comfortable and safe the ride will be. Agree that for domestic roads this indicator is far from the last when making a decision. The use of a larger-diameter disc and low-profile tires means that on bad roads the suspension will experience additional stress and passengers will experience discomfort. In addition, the risk of damage to the tire and/or disk increases, which can end very tragically at speed.

Now let's move on to discussing materials. Similar reasoning holds here. Stamped discs are softer and safer. They are repairable, and if damaged, even at speed you will not lose control of the car. However, when using them you have to sacrifice the beauty and increased inertia of the machine. Alloy wheels, on the other hand, are much more beautiful, but are also prone to failure. Therefore, if you live in an area with very bad roads, we strongly advise against using alloy wheels. Especially driving them through pits at high speed.

Thus, you must make your own choice based on the information provided. As always, the truth is in the middle. If you want to tune your car, then there is no problem with this. But remember that 14-gauge alloy wheels are more fragile. Be sure to obey the speed limit while driving, especially on bad roads. But on good surfaces the car will hold the road better and corner more smoothly. Therefore, the decision must be made based on the operating conditions of the machine.

When choosing wheels for a VAZ, you need to look not only at their appearance, but also at the possibility of using them on a particular model. In addition, certain technical characteristics must be taken into account.

The most important of them are:

· diameter of the centering hole.
