When selecting new wheels for any car, including the domestic VAZ-2107, it is necessary to take into account a number of factors specific to this particular model. Traditionally, most cars that rolled off the Volzhsky Automobile Plant assembly line had the most budget-friendly wheel options. The VAZ-2107 was equipped with 13-inch stamped steel elements with standard tires in size 175/70R13.

Starting from 1982 until the end of mass production in 2012, the “seven” was produced in 13 modifications. One of them, namely the VAZ-21077, was developed specifically for export to the UK. In this version, more expensive, alloy wheel versions were installed on it.

Rim width is measured in inches. In the VAZ-2107 this indicator is equal to the values ​​5 and 5.5. Knowing the width of the rim, you can understand how wide the tire should be. In the marking this value is written as follows: 5J and 5.5J.

The offset is the segment between the imaginary plane dividing the rim into 2 equal-width rings and the docking area of ​​the car's hub. In the marking, these are the letters “ET” and the numerical value is indicated in millimeters. Standard VAZ-2107 wheels have an offset of ET29.

Full coincidence of the central hole of the disk with the corresponding parameter of the hub helps to accurately center the disk during installation, which has a positive effect on the service life of the tires and eliminates wheel runout when driving.

Alloy wheels are always made of aluminum, titanium and magnesium. Such products are durable, lightweight and look good on any car. But the impact of a strong collision often leads to cracks or their complete destruction. They are no longer subject to repair.

Forged wheels are produced by hot stamping. They are more durable, but their increased ability to maintain shape under dynamic loads means that the entire shock load is rigidly transmitted to the vehicle's suspension.

Prefabricated discs usually consist of 2 or 3 bolted elements. Each segment can be made of different materials. If such a product fails, any of these segments can be disconnected and replaced with a new element.

The selection of tires is made based on the size of the wheels. The rim width indicator indicates the size of the tire seat. And, of course, the tires must match the diameter. The wheel rim must either correspond to the parameters of the VAZ-2107 hub according to PCD - 4x98 mm and according to DIA - 58.5 mm, or its installation will require the use of special adapter spacers. The product with PCD – 4x100 mm can be installed using fasteners with an eccentric.

You can try to get around the 5J-6J rim width limitation by changing the “ET” value. The use of spacers will reduce the size of the offset, which will allow the installation of wider wheels. But the question immediately arises about the appropriateness of these actions.

Giving a more modern look to any older car model is quite appropriate and acceptable in most cases. Changing disks in this sense is no exception. However, if you are carried away by tuning the VAZ-2107, you should not forget about the technical characteristics.

Any re-equipment must be accompanied by an improvement in both appearance and performance. Or at least you should try not to spoil what was originally there.

RULES FOR SELECTION OF LIGHT ALLOY WHEELS

The VAZ 2107 car has very specific technical parameters. The manufacturer recommends using certain types of components and consumables during operation. Stamped steel or cast alloy wheels must have the following technical characteristics:

1. number of bolts – 4 units;
2. distance between attachment points - 98.0 mm;
3. disc mounting diameter - 13 inches;
4. wheel width in the area where the tire is installed is 5.5 inches;
5. Disc offset – distance from the central plane to the mounting pad – 29 mm;
6. The minimum diameter of the hub assembly is 60.1 mm.

The manufacturer of the VAZ 2107 recommends adhering to exactly these characteristics when choosing and installing wheel rims. In some cases, sellers urge you not to pay too much attention to the machine’s operating manual and to purchase castings with other parameters. They are driven mainly by the desire to sell a set of components and make a profit from this process.

Front-wheel drive VAZ cars

They received new wheels that differ in their original design and offset size (40 mm). In the first models, the rim became much narrower (4.5J). The diameter of the ventilation holes is slightly larger. Nowadays, such wheels have become an “artifact”. Collectors of old Zhiguli cars buy them with pleasure.

The front-wheel drive VAZ 2108 was equipped with its own disk, which could only be replaced with an analogue from the VAZ 2101. The fact is that on other models the design had a smaller offset.

As a result, the hub bearings began to experience heavy loads. The running-in shoulder became smaller, the kinematics of the machine were disrupted, and the bearings simply fell apart.

From all of the above, only one conclusion can be drawn: all VAZ cars were produced with R13. However, even today, “stamping”, having the design of VAZ 2108 wheels, is installed on modern Zhiguli.
